    A couple of tips from an old sledder. Instead of killing your back trying to drag a sled off of a trailer simply tie a rope to the back bumper and to the nearest solid object (tree etc). Then SLOWLY pull forward with your truck and the sled will roll right off. I also don't like checking for spark with the plug right over top of the open spark plug hole. If it's flooded fuel comes out and plug can ignite the mixture causing a fireball outside of the engine which can go bad in a hurry. With a painted cylinder head you can still find a decent ground on the cylinder head bolts to check for spark. Love the channel. As some extra content you could show us what you do with all of this stuff after you fix it. I assume you flip them to buy more.

    That Polaris 600 triple is a beast! Somebody mentioned above that they would go fast in a straight line? Well, yeah, but if you learned to ride in the old days, where you learned to ride with your whole body, instead of just the the handlebars, they would go fast no matter where you rode them. I miss those days when it wasnt a lazy mans sport! Great pickup, man!

      The aggressive chassis doesn't go in the deep snow, period lol idc how you ride it, or which model it is.. and these 600s are fast, but blow up. They are a mash-up of other engine parts straight out of the factory lol and the 600lb chassis doesn't help with either of those. I also have this exact sled, a couple 650s.. (have had other Polaris triples in the past, as well as a SPX Ultra - same sled as this XCR with the 680 instead of the 600) and as fast as the 600 is, they aren't great sleds, none of them are.. Which is why everyone says they go fast in a straight line. (They can also rail trails though, but that's about it)
      I am putting a piped 650 into an Edge chassis over a stock 600 so it can be reliable at around the same power lol
      Aggressive chassis just isn't great at much. The Wedge chassis is way better all around, same with a Gen 2, evolved, and Edge is as good as a trailing arm sled can get. Aggressive is def the last choice Polaris chassis

    Those sleds use staggered carb jetting to compensate for uneven cooling. I don’t recall exactly which end was hotter. But it’s in the manual. When people take the carbs apart to clean them they don’t realize this and mix things up. You could end up with a hot cylinder (lean) and one cold (rich). So it’s best to verify used sleds.
    Also those 600 triples can feel a touch slow or weak just after the clutch engages. They really benefit from aftermarket clutching. But just as important is carb sync. It can be roughly done with a few old school tricks. But best done with proper syncing equipment but it’s more difficult using 4 stroke manometers on a 2 stroke.
    But for $500 it’s a good score. You could triple that money by parting it out with the engine running and good compression.

    • @oldjarhead386
      @oldjarhead386 5 місяців тому +2

      @@matsmannela9475 Actually I think it has more to do with the direction of coolant flow. It enters one end after being cooled from the heat exchanger, picks up heat and moves on to the next cylinder with coolant that is already warmer so it has less capacity to cool. By the time this happens to the third cylinder it needs to be compensated for. Some two cylinder sleds have this staggering issue also but normally they are air-cooled. But same theory.

Those aggressive chassis polaris sleds are becoming one of the hardest to find and they one made them for 3 years and plus the rarity of the hoods, extremely hard to find in good shape especially the white hood aggressive chassis. primary clutch should engage around 4700 rpm with a stock almond/white spring and it should have a 1066 polaris drive belt. they're some rippers sleds, just had mine doing 105 2 weekends ago.

    After your first run when you lifted the hood you could see the 3rd cylinder exhaust was different to the other 2 and not running as hot.. after you did the plugs and the ground and run it the pipes were all the same colour…
    Nice job and a sweet deal for you…

    I don’t care for them triples because sometimes that center cylinder gets too much heat. That may be your problem center cylinder not firing right.

    Love how he tested for spark on the third cylinder. What a surprise there'd have been with "unburned fuel" and a tickle more spark! Definitely OSHA approved👍

    Man, the very first thing you check on any sled is the damn spark plugs. Even an inexperienced mechanic knows that.. I absolutely do not understand why this person didn't check those.. Oh well, their loss is your gain because those 600's are fairly quick. I doubt 100, but probably a good 90.. Maybe, though, if a few mods were put in and some studs and a pipe. Those older speedos are unreliable usually. I have radar run quite a few old pooplaris's and found them to usually be off.. I'm not sure if it's from years of riding or calibration, but it is what it is. Great content bud, always a pleasure.

    i bought a 2000 or 2001 Arctic Cat ZR 440 sno-pro (we call the sled type for Cross-Skoter in Sweden, its a word copy from "DirtBike" in combo with Snowmobile ) With a engine swap to a Arctic Cat 600cc EFI. Seller said first it did not run anymore, and the last time it did run he was experience throttle being stuck wide open. that was a easy fix, i started with cleaning all the CDI box pins for the electric cables. and after that i replaced the really short thorttle wire. that was why it was stuck wide open then he did right side turns.
    after that it worked pretty good. i did fix bad things on it. replaced skiees from original to boondock skii´s. and other small changes and i made my own version of a "Cross-over" snowmobile it ws pretty nice off-trail. still a very short track. but it was agile AF. no reverse ger bit short and light so i could lift and spin it.
    track was changed for a used track but with much bitter kam´s for better off-trail snow grip. still not like the boondok sleed but still much more than orginal.
    the only part i did not fix properly was the frankenstein airbox.. it worked good for 3 winters. cuz we usually dont get this much powder snow as we got this winter. this was a relly nice start on my Swedish winter. usually we get snow and enought snow to ride properly in the woods and trail´s and on frozen lakes. but not "Canadian deep". any how i managed to suck in powder snow to the airbox and I cracked the top cover on the engine, from the spark plug hole all the way out to the edge, visible from the outside, didn't even have to unscrew it for them to crack.
    so sometimes "dead" snowmobiles are not dead at all. mine i bought for about 600$ USD and did put in another 300-350$ to fixx it. i did ride that sled properly for 3 years :D
    now tho i have a Lynx Xterrain from 2020 that i replaced my Frankenstein Cat with.

    Clean sled! Looks like it was well taken care of. That was a very popular sled, they were everywhere back in the day. I don't care if it's old. This goes to show you that all it takes is to give your sled attention and it will last. My sleds are 22 & 25 yrs old and I still love them. With the price of the new ones as high as they are you're gonna see and are seeing people hang on to their old one's. Can't believe it.....just a bad spark plug!!!

    Great luck on this buy and fixing it so fast! I think the plug was cracked and not firing. Normally 2 stroke sledders always carry a spare set of plugs in the toolkit when they ride. I also noticed you had no spare belt when you opened the shroud - that is another must have spare part. I think the previous owner was riding on the cheap and taking chances not carrying spares.

    You need to start using a digital temp gun and check exhaust pipe temps to find the weak cylinders. Look at that same cylinder with the broken plug the exhaust pipe looks different than the other two. Yeah before I did spark or compression test I would swap out the broken plug and try running it again. Keep running the motor. There could be unburnt fuel in the lower crankcase in that cylinder from the fouled bad plug. If you don't sell this you should put the motor in the Raider or that Orange Trike. Nobody wants these old Polaris 3 cylinder sleds. Or make it an ice lake runner.

    BTW here's an old tip when you're stuck, if you don't have a limited slip diff on your bakkie, put the handbrake on a little - it will stop either of the wheels from spinning and divert torque to both.

    • @eagle777dh
      @eagle777dh 5 місяців тому

      Just my opinion but 4 low is more of a hindrance than help in snow it just spins the wheels easier . if you are spinning in 4 high you gain nothing going to 4 low. 4 low is for when power to the wheels is needed like towing heavy loww up a hill. You would have had a better chance putting your truck into second gear in 4 high and gently giving just enough gas to move, as soon as the wheel break loose and spin you are losing traction stop back up and try again.
      Good to see you got lucky on this one. Fresh plugs and gas is the best way to start with on an unknown machine for me.

    You should make some filter for the top of the airbox to keep snow dust out. One drop of water will burn a hole in the top of piston. I made some from an old shop vac foam and silicone them on. Love polaris, been riding them 24 years now.
