Car is turning out sick! One thing to think about on the side skirts. Make a bracket and mount from bottom. Tech screws the body filler over is a hack move. And you guys are not a hack shop. Also think about plate on bumpers to transfer load. I would put the clips back in metal on front. With clips in metal , then metal brackets like washers on bumper to transfer load and keep fiberglass from cracking
I'm really liking the aftermarket a/c unit. And your right, for this restomod application, it will probably work better than trying to get the complicated original unit working again.
And those are crazy expensive. You would find them no problem. Mercedes has an old timer parts division that only take care of older cars and they are very well stocked. But , oh boy. You have to pay them. Not outrages but not cheap.
From all your builds, this one really got me going. I drive a Mercedes that I bought at "Salzufer" in Berlin. Since then I became a big Mercedes fan. The best Auto I have ever owned. Now I look up all sorts of Daimlers, old and new. Great cars and a great tuner garage you boys have. Super work you do and I watch you every Wednesday and are delighted. Thanx. Oh, and by the way. That was the number 1 Gangster Auto on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Normally in Gold. It`s very nostalgic.
Coming along nicely 😊 for glassfibre panels I like to glass in or 2 part panel bond some steel plates where the mounting points are to help stop the bolts stress fracturing the fibreglass over time 👍
The AMG kit looks cool, ton of work, agree on flipping the clips so all you see is the Alan head bolt. If you have to leave the screws in the side skirts consider rivets instead (if possible). That'll be a fun ride when it's done! 👍
Beautifully done. Constructive suggestion - you may want to consider a plate type transmission cooler with AN fittings vs the fin/hose clamp version you showed. Better efficiency and solid connections.
Normally if we're doing a performance orient build, everything would get AN fittings. If it's not too costly to swap them on for this one, we'll definitely consider it!
I've always heard that aftermarket body kits are labor intensive because they have a "horseshoes and hand grenades" philosophy for the fit, but I've never used one. Watching this video, that seems to be about right.
This clip just popped in my feed so i subscribed. I own a "midnight blue" Euro 89 560SEL AMG version with original AMG bodykit & AMG interior. My trunk has the original AMG wing fitted which you mainly see on the AMG coupe widebodies (not the ducktail & not the small lip that the ends overhangs the rear qtr panels). The wing version is the best look & you may find perhaps these are being copied now as well My front grille & chrome is painted same as body (midnight blue). It is a killer look which i suggest you follow that path when its time for paint - dark body colours are best suited Mine also has the AMG Aero 3 piece wheels (17 x 10" rear/ 17 x 8.5" front) but no doubt you will go for a custom set of wheels. Just drop in a set of H&R lowering springs & new HD shocks to sort out the suspension. You can source complete air-ride kits for therse now but pretty pricey & not as good as springs Simplest/cheapest engine swap for these is an LS with custom crossmember welded in to mount the engine & also to mount a R&P steering rack to. Of interest there is a coupe over here in Aus that has had the rear end custom tubbed to fit wider custom 3 piece wheels with deep dish within the stock rear qtr panels - that looks pretty cool Will follow your build with interest - these old Mercs are fun to work with as they can look killer when done properly ( i am biased though as also own 2 x SEC AMG coupes as well)
Thanks for the support and thanks for the suggestions. This is a customer build, so all the paint and body decisions end up being decided on by him! We'll both have to wait and see what color he decides!
aftermarket crappie fiberglass junk, waisted a lot of time fitting it and will spend a lot of time finishing it and it will still look cheap. Love your video's.
We'd have to pull out the invoices to see where this one came from. But Dave got his from Classic Euro Parts! You can check out his EV swapped Benz episode where he breaks the body kits down a bit more in depth!
Your videos aren’t showing up in my feed even though I’m subscribed, started happening about a month ago, maybe a little longer. I am subscribed and resubscribed, hoping that this would fix the issue but once again this video did not show up in my feed. I thought I just let you guys know in case this is happening to other subscribers or if you notice a drop in your analytics.
Thanks for the heads up! UA-cam has been a little weird lately. We've had a few people mention the same thing to us and it seem to be hit or miss on the episodes showing up in subscriber feeds
Friggin UA-cam. I've been subscribed to your channel for a couple of years and lately I find your videos on my home page, but NEVER in my subscription feed. SO frustrating! (obviously not your fault, just venting)
And Wednesday and another Merc video that doesn't show in my subscriptions and no notifications even though I have it set to notify me for all uploads... I don't know what YT's problem is, but this is ridiculous...
That body kit is not good in quality compared to the rest of this great build, the original one is better and more solid, and more sleeper-ish. Actually Theres a good gentleman from the UK called Nino that has a youtube channel called Not Economically Viable. he might still have a good AMG original body kit for this car plus wheels. he didnt ask me to say this or advertising it lol i just like watching w126 builds
Damn I need mine painted! Did you have any issues in the rear window with rust? Especially the passenger side. It's a known and common spot and mine has started to bubble a little but not through.
Surprisingly no! Maybe a little surface rust. Our main issue had been the doors. We had to do a good amount of patch panels to cut the rust out of the bottom of the doors
@@SalvagetoSavage Awesome. I need to get mine painted one day. Could you give a rough, very rough, estimate on how much you would charge to paint the same car? Mine has a little bubbling in the area as mentioned and a dime sized rust spot by roof. I would want the entire car painted on stock bumpers/trim. So the lower body panels and bumpers would all be painted and the car would be monotone.
Patina Collective has eyes on this build and are suitably impressed ,most especially with the lead mechanic ,top operator

I love the *direction* this thing's going!
This build is coming together nicely. Nice and clean work done there boys.
Thank you!!
Damn, didn't get a noti this week, but I knew a video should be out today...and found it anyways!
UA-cam really hates this channel for some reason.
It seems to happen a lot with these Mercedes episodes. But we put a new one out every Wednesday!
Great job, guys! I love how it's coming together!
Thanks!

I’m liking and drooling, loved these AMG back in the day! Thanks David and Mike for your time and effort.
👍 That looks awesome
Thank you for watching!
@@SalvagetoSavage I enjoy the builds! Helps the time pass while waiting for my radiation treatments, my last treatment is Tuesday, September 3.
Loving this build! She needs a little rear deck spoiler to complete the look.
Oh definitely!
Cool!

Are you saying wood screws and Bondo, is not the best way to go.
Thanks for the tips! Now that everything is fitted, we can work on getting it structurally sound and secure before sending it back out to paint!
Coming along nicely. Becoming a real salvage to true savage. Thanks guys.

The hardware and mounting isn't 100% final, even though the fitment is. We're going to definitely clean it all up before sending it to body and paint!
Wow 😍
I am building my dream V12 supercar using an M120 😎
Nice!!
Love this build!
We're glad you like it!

This thing is gonna be bad ass
UA-cam's jerking this channel around yet again. Did not show up in my subscriptions. Had to go looking for it yet again
Yep, can't find this vid in subscriptions either.
same for me
Same I even turned on notifications and still didn’t get it in my subscriptions again
Same not even in my feed. Had to double check I was still subbed
You guys rock keep it up 👍 love the build 😊
Thank you!
O boy ooooh boy👌🏻😎
With such a high level build, should have sourced a genuine body kit.
👍
I've always heard that aftermarket body kits are labor intensive because they have a "horseshoes and hand grenades" philosophy for the fit, but I've never used one. Watching this video, that seems to be about right.
The fitment wasn't really all too bad from the jump. You can only expect so much fitting new parts onto 40 year old cars!
💪👊👏
I would try and make the stock engine and ac work
Why's that?
👍💪

10-32 bolts on a German car? Just playin’ - whenever I work on VWs I just automatically get out the 10, 13, 15, 17, and 19 mm wrenches and sockets.
Extremely difficult project...
Definitely not an easy one!
