You know that’s it’s a ridiculously over complicated car when a trained Merc tech works on the car for 8 months to fix it and is so excited to finally have it resolved, as though it was improbable that he could fix it. I honestly couldn’t imagine owning a car like this and taking it to the dealer. Imagine the cost to do all this work at the dealer. Alex added $100k to the value of the car.

First thing I’d do is throw that aftermarket stuff out! I’m glad my C215 doesn’t give me any headaches so far but knock on wood it stays that way! My back lowers after 4/5 days of standing and according to the community here in Germany that is still in norm but man owning any ABC car you just know sooner or later something has to be done. Still, I’d figure out that wiring and get it back to stock these lowering modules are a no go on these cars with such a fine smooth suspension the way it comes out the factory.

I researched repair and figured i got nothing to lose using 6000 psi compression fitting. Got new rubber hose made in front left wheel well then cut and spiced...it worked great! Took to the indy mechanic and had him rodeo and check codes and all was good! Went out with huge smile and ate like a king that night! Haha its a love hate with these cars. For those that do not know what anxiety is... consider that every one of those ABC hoses and components has failed some owner at some point... many owners have replaced many parts multiple times. You will eventually not even want to drive the car, thus making ABC cars worth about as much as a decent night out.
I got tired of laying on the garage floor trying to figure out what failed, so I took every single one of those miserable hoses, valves, coolers, accumulators, mounts, pipes and the ABC pump out and threw all 122 pounds of it in the rubbish bin. Years of anxiety replaced with a simple power steering pump from an S430, some coil-overs (V8 car) and 20 minutes of wire splicing to get rid of the warnings.
Now I'm not afraid to drive my car anymore and I just crossed 223,000 miles on my CL55.

Great work sir. I knew you would figure it out. I still wrench for a living (OTR trucks) and am a diagnostic tech. I am good at what I do, but sometimes I get something that forces me to stop and eat some humble pie. It keeps me up too. (I swear I dream about problems I have not figured out yet) I believe the key is research, reset the mind, and approach with the mindset of "fresh issues".
Keep up the good work. Your channel (along with a few others) is how I relax on my off time.
    Sweet ride, btw.

So let me get this right. You work on trucks all day and deal with these sort frustrating and infuriating mystery issues and how you relax is watching a bloke work on his Euro problem child with its frustrating and infuriating mystery issues?? Sadist or masochist? :) :) ;)

    • @jb40now47

@@ptma5040 Yes. It is enjoyable for me to watch someone else who cares about what, and how, they go about figuring out these issues. Let's me know that even the very skilled among us sometime struggle with figuring out complex issues. The automotive and trucking industry customers and clients have very little patience or forgiveness for the occasional misdiagnosis or human error. I have a effective "get it right the first time" score of 98%. It is the 2% I get wrong that people in our industry remember. I do not lose sleep over that 2%. I sometimes lose sleep over the 98% that I figure out get right. That is how I maintain a 98% efficiency rating. I enjoy figuring out issues because very few people can do it day in and day out with high efficiency. What people in our industries do is literally keeping the world moving. There is a certain pride I take in being among the best to do it.
It is relaxing to watch another highly skilled technician figure stuff out. I sometimes learn something too.
BTW, most of the trucks I work on are powered by Euro engines. Detroit Diesel only exists in name. Mercedes produces the engines and slaps Detroit Diesel on them to make trucking companies feel warm and fuzzy about having a fleet of Freightliners powered by "Detroit" engines. Volvo is Swedish. (HATE Volvo engines)

I feel your joy because I had the same issues with my SL55 3 years ago. It actually started when it would do a rodeo test on it's on at highway speeds! I thought the big earthquake was happening here in San Diego when the car did a rodeo on the freeway doing 80 mph! Dealer techs told me it's impossible for the car to do a rodeo while it's being driven. Wrong! I also feel your joy because I did all the work myself! I fee the terror and frustration of guys who buy these cars and have no wrenching skills. I'm thinking the labor cost alone would be in the thousands of dollars. But like you said...smashing the throttle makes that all go away. These are amazing cars that cost a lot to maintain but, the rewards are priceless. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to reseal my valve blocks very soon.

Thanks, been there done that. I have replaced my varioroof pump relay too. If that goes out, your motor will keep running and by the time you realize to pull power it will burn up and cost $600 to rebuild. I have also replaced every non German made sensors I have found thru preventive maintenance. I had two fuel injectors go out one me that hydro locked the cylinders! Luckily these M133K engines are bullet proof and didn't suffer any internal damage. I replaced all injectors ASAP @ 85K miles for peace of mind. Stuck open injectors give zero warning! The list goes on........Thanks though for suggesting that.

Love your dedication to simplify/demistify advanced mechanics in cars we all appriciate and retail at a price normal people buy a house for.

I use to operate an old fleet of fuel trucks. They had a relay in the dash and some of them had relay issues. The trucks with relay issues had circles drawn on the dash with a note that said “hit here.” When you hit the spot as instructed the relay would work and the truck would start. Everyone knew the routine…if it failed to start, hit it.

Great video, tip for anyone with a blocked line that still let's fluid and air travel through but can't get it unblocked with a little wire, get a ball bearing as close to the diameter of the line grease it a little bit pop 4 of them in and bamb it hard with the compressor be careful at the other end when the balls make it through the line they come out fast especially when they are pushing something through the line.

Glad to see its fixed. I changed the rear struts in my cl55 amg and hooked the level sensors back up wrong. The rear went sky high….Had a good tech who figured it out for me. I rebuilt the valve blocks and then replaced went proactive by changing all the accumulators and motor mounts and rad and pulleys and belts and a bunch more. Front crank seal leaks and diff side seals leak. Then I’ll be done for awhile… and the supercharger pulley change and ecu tune and intercooler pump upgrade netted 540 rear wheel hp. 625 ftlbs of torque. Car is a lot faster…😀
