Faux plants blended with real ones are great! The real plants make the faux ones look real and disguise the real ones you’re killing. It helps keep costs and maintenance down but helps fill out a space. It works indoors and out.
The final word art example has me slack-jawed…. I always joked that if you have ‘Eat, Enjoy’ on your dining room wall, and ‘Sleep, Dream’ in the bedroom, shouldn’t you have ‘Piss, Poop’ in the bathroom? I guess someone didn’t get the joke!
There used to be a show on bbc ‘how clean is your house’, and one of the hosts used to take samples of filth from a house and analyze them, and what she collected on the toilet seat covers and rugs was absolutely disgusting.
OMG, those awful "sofas" with built-in cup holders and phone chargers should be banished to the bowels of the Earth. I want whoever created those to be charged AND convicted for crimes against humanity. Sentence: LIFE. Ugggh! 🤬
They look like glorified car seats sitting in the middle of the living room!! My husband and I have been in a 10 year argument about that darn sofa!! He wants one along with the matching recliner. His "compromise" was proposing we get 3 of the recliners since it's three of us in the house. That's not a compromise...that's even worse!!🤦🏾♀️ Needless to say we've been reupholstering the same Victorian sofa because I absolutely refuse to bring that mess in my house!!
Agree with all, but faux plants are my only possibility for greenery. My cats are killing every plant. They have even chewed a kactus.. I have given up.
You are right on with all of them. Particularly the large leather/cloth sofa with the cup holder. Throw away the key if they have them in the formal family room. you can give them a break if the in the basement.
Phoenix! First, you are wonderful! Your sense of humor is hysterical! Second, Your knowledge of trends are great! Third, you just get real! I want you write a book!
Faux plans are convenient if mase well. They are clean and easy to keep, but 1 or 2 is enough if needed. My main house is done in British Colonial Chinoiserie with genuine 18th/early 19th Century antiques and Baker reproductions., and 1 0r 2 tropical plants would be necessary. Also, another room is done in art deco, and a mirrored piece is almost a necessity - just one. Everything should be judged in its context and entirety, IMO.
Another plastic item that will end up, soon or later, in a landfill. At least, dead real plants end up in compost. But I'm jealous about your Art Déco room.
Will not end up in a landfill. These are high end faux plants with real tree trunks. you cannot tell them from real even upon touching them. @@nathalie_desrosiers
Too funny!!!! I loved the Rae Dunn segment....I could not agree more; it drives me insane! Let's not forget to label every room in the house with it's intended use like: Bathroom, Pantry, Kitchen, Eat etc. LOL
I know what Rae Dunn was thinking: we're gonna sell a shit-ton of this shit and make a ton of money. And they were correct. I worked for TJMaxx for a few months and we could not keep it on the shelves.
As a male, I think anything fabric around a toilet is unsanitary. No matter how well you aim there is an invisible spray. Hard, smooth surfaces are much easier to keep clean.

Phew - I made it through without any infringements !!! I'm not the most fashion conscious of people, so nice to know the house isn't too ickky. I worry that I don't have any strands of wooden beads artistically draped around the place - is it too late ?
My parents and sister-in-law have some of these and love them. The one I sort of have is mason jars and other recycled jars but they're holding art supplies and materials and not used as decor.
I can't stand Rae Dunn stuff, but I will admit - I bought two dog bowls at Marshalls because they were big and heavy - and yes - cheap. One says "Drink Up" the other says "Dinner". I really don't care about it. I only bought them because they were big and heavy and my dog won't push them across the floor while eating. But I realized - why the hell did they put words on the bowl describing what's in there? Dogs can't read. Same shopping trip - I unknowingly bought a laundry basket and realized it was also Rae Dunn after I brought it home. I liked the white exterior and the blue striped interior. I didn't even see the word"Laundry" on it. Again - I'm looking the other way because that thing stays in the closet.
I remember years ago in the 90’s, we took my parents to a restaurant . When the drinks came in Mason Jars, my father took my mother and left the restaurant 😮
😂 Side note: my best friend’s family growing up only drank from mason jars. We used them at home for canning only. I could never understand why they drank from them. I assumed they were too poor for regular glasses. I was little so it was the only theory I could come up with. Ha.
A lot of real plants are toxic to cats and dogs, particularly some of the nicer ones. A good quality faux plant, although sometimes more expensive than the real version, can be a good alternative.
This is a must think for anyone getting real plants. I have two cats and a dog and I love real plants. I will not buy a new plant without checking online whether it's safe. So easy to do these days.
The only good faux plant is a bouquet style because you can get dried, real flower versions, or amazing looking fake ones that won't die after a week. So I use those with nice vases, but fake house plants never look real.

Much better to have a high quality faux plant than to kill a live one. It's not just a matter of watering it every once in a while, at least for most plants. It's giving the right amount of water and sunlight (probably turning it around every once in a while), dealing with dropping leaves, trimming when it starts to get too big, treating for potential bugs and diseases, replacing the soil that gets thrown all over the floor by the pets, etc. And real plants can get just as dusty as fake ones if they're not cleaned. My mom is a plant connoisseur and can grow anything, including a collection of gorgeous orchids. Unfortunately I did not inherit that from her: I could kill a cactus. I do not want to kill any plants, because I like plants, so I will stick with the best quality faux plants I can find.
