I just painted my formerly depressing grey bedroom a dark forest green. I was a bit hesitant to use such a dark color in a small room at first, especially since it also doubles as my office space, but I'm in love with the result! It's so much easier to fall asleep in here now. And I just crack open the windows and completely cover the bed with the duvet to avoid feeling sleepy at work.
My husband wanted to paint our bedroom blue when we moved into our current house. I was really hesitant at first but I’m so glad we did. It’s actually my favorite color that we picked for our house.
Yay 🥳 I have terracotta! It's Dutch boy Ashton Orange. It's so neutral and relaxing and it goes with every color I've tried. It also stays true to color even in this north- facing room. I've had problems with some other colors in these north facing rooms.
Awe thank you so so much! I really appreciate that. I’ve slowly been growing it back since it started thinning, and most comments online for my videos have been quite vile making fun of me for it. This comment means more than you know 🥰🥰🥰
Love, love, love your videos! I live in Canada, deal with SAD in the winter, so warm white works really well in the bedroom for me. Keep your great videos coming
So happy to see this professional advice. Instinctively, I ve chosen warm earthy colours for all the rooms in our new house. Some walls are paler but we chose the light colour on the colour paint shading which has undertones of these same earth colours. We are really happy and it looks great
I live in Canada in the Northern Territory. My room is a soft warm white and rely on texture to pull it all off. With oversized sheep skin rugs, sable fur bed throw, floor to ceiling semi sheer draped window & mirrors on each side of the bed. It is warm and inviting I’ve been told by guests.
Great video DD, yes a 20 (ish) minute video on both colour theory, and white. My current bedroom colour is a soft cream (was called honeysuckle at the paintstore, but not sure that helps) with hickory paneling on the ceiling slope. (an attic room)
@@mrphoenixgrey If I may suggest, time stamps (I've no idea how to either) I find them nice to go back and rewatch a section I didn't quite understand. And there will be lots I don't understand, I'm a blacksmith, what do we know about colour . . . ;)
I used the same warm white a friend had on her walls. But in my room it looked more beige. So never forget to test on your own walls. Yes please do another video.
Yes!! Always swatch to see how the sub reacts to the colour in your own space. I’m going to do a video on this for the best whites for different sun exposures 🙏🏼
My latest house had a yellow kitchen when I bought it. It energised me in the mornings but annoyed me at other times. I waited a year before changing it because I wanted to live in the space before I made changes. I was glad when it was gone. My blue kitchen doesn't energise me in the mornings but it never annoys me and it is soothing after a hard day.
My go to is when do i most use this space. Im in my kitchen for 15 minutes in the morning but 1-3 hours later in the day. Btw, rock on with the blue kitchen. You might find some bright artwork helps with feeling energized, or something that makes you happy
My current bedroom is blood red, the previous scheme was sunshine yellow. Both relax me. I should admit though that I'm colour-blind. When I was still at work, the boss repainted using very bright colours, and I was the only one who loved it, I suppose that I just couldn't see to full effect.
I prefer white in the bedroom tho It calms me down and offers less visual stimulation… well aside of me of course ;)) The right lighting and shades make the room cozy if needed. I cannot tolerate visual clutter in the bedroom
The great thing about colour, and shades is that everyone has a different reaction to their beauty of them - which is incredible 🤍 a simple white with the right textures in a space can really make it cozy too 🙏🏼
I have had 2 bedrooms in a pale sea shell pink color, then transitioned to dusty violet which I still enjoy. But you are correct, to get a true effect from the color do all the walls. I usually do a half white half color on ceilings.
Omg I hate white paint in the bedroom so much so it was fun to see someone agree. I color drenched my room bright princess pink from home depo for reference.
I did my whole house in blue and green. It didn't start that way, I started with a dark blue accent wall. Then I expanded it around the corner. Then I went around another corner. Then I added pale green (like sea foam) to the ceiling. Then I expanded that green into the kitchen. Then I used a sage in the bedroom. I've gradually filled just about every nook and cranny with blues and greens, and yes, it is indeed soothing and pretty, and I'm very happy with it.
I went with Resene Cab Sav in our bedroom, it's been that colour for over 10 years now; it's basically a very deep wine colour which does the cozy thing very well. I'll probably go lighter when I get to the bedroom this time; currently working on the lounge. Doing Resene quarter Tea for the living areas which looks various colours depending on the light; it can look like a warm white, a grey or taupe. It works well with white ceilings as well as the charcoal carpet and the rimu wood furniture.
My house is a 1970s California contemporary with high, sloped ceilings and an open plan. It’s near the ocean so we have very bright light (or fog!). I’ve painted every wall and ceiling BM Decorators White - which is very bright (with grey or blue undertones depending on who you talk to). I’ve been very happy with it, as we have skylights and huge (too big!) plants. It feels airy and open. But recently I’ve been thinking about softening the colorway in the primary bedroom. I want to stay in the soft/bright range and maybe go toward blue, maybe like a chambray blue shirt color. Not sure yet. I liked your video and it gave me a lot to think about. Just subscribed.
Ok so looking at a refresh in my entire condo. I have been struggling with the primary bedroom. Thinking about Coventry Grey (I know it's a grey- I still love it) with a dark charcoal accent wall- actually BM Soot is what I am thinking of. I have thought of a dark inky blue as well which could work with the rest of our place. My home office is Gentlemen's grey which I love.
I love BM soot! An excellent choice to give it some depth and contrast with the Coventry grey :) Hale navy is another great complimenting colour if you want a deep blue to work with your existing colour palette as well
I love this! Just cane across your channel and am obsessed. Learnt so much and i needed this cause looking at redoing some rooms in my house. Love, love the fact you went into the psychological effects of different colours too. Really interesting. And you are so fun to watch/liaten to. Thank you!
RED! Not worried about 💤 ng. I like stimulation in the morning. I have so much natural light and art you hardly notice the 'fire'. Red ceiling too. Bright is the name of my game.
Thank you for prefacing this with 'you do you.' Because, as a synesthete, colors have sounds for me and, no matter how visually appealing, a color can be loud, buzzing, or otherwise unsettling. 🙃
I painted my whole house one year ago in snowbound by Sherwood Williams and I love the color. I like to decorate with different colors. I feel like every color goes with white and white is so neutral. I never liked dark rooms.
Yes to some color theory help. Please and thank you. Before diving into specific room, how to create a whole home color palette and theory on the same palette applied differently in the great room, versus using the same palette in the kitchen, versus the same palette in a 1/2 bath, versus the same palette in the quiet rooms like bedrooms and master baths. I am starting with 3 rugs for inspiration. Some guidance, some elbow grease, and of course a lucky break would be appreciated.
when I glanced across the screen I thought you;d be way over the top for me. However ive binge-watched a dozen videos....LOVE your style and your personality would DEF draw me to hang out with you! On the design end of this (I was ID Purdue) I easily agree w/ most things you say....which I cant say often on other channels of similar nature. Love your content/vids/presentation/personality!
I've painted the walls and ceiling in two shades of Mint (color name 'Chiswick'), the furniture in Petrol ('Hurlingham') and the curtains are in Mint/Warm White. I mostly use colors from Mylands, a British company (I'm afraid, it ist not available in the US). Greetings from Germany.
Yes to talking for days, DD. ❤ ok, my color palette 60-30-10 is white, camel, pale blues. I live near the ocean. As Miranda would say: “groundbreaking.”
My bedroom in odd i agree. It tries to look like a Finish old washed wood interior. The walls are papered horizontally with a mostly white plank effect. Else where i have greys and green leaf patteren drapes and a tonne of art on the first third of the room but once in bed i can only we some of the art. The lighting is a main single pendant, never used before bed time, a low bedside table light which i am about to change out and an adjustable light above the bed angled against the wall so it gives a low glow effect.
I'm confused how you're putting across terracota. Its arguably a type of orange, which is the only colour that doesnt have a cool version. So the "pairing with warm or cool" its more, warm feeds into how warm it is, and cool balances put the warmness.
I don't know if you'll see this, but could you do a video on painting/adding color to odd shaped spaces? I've always leaned towards dark moody spaces, but now I live in a loft and there aren't any fully enclosed spaces or normal shaped walls and I'm not ready to commit the whole loft to a dark moody vibe. So a video on that would really help 😊
Rent a 1890s Brooklyn brownstone... our place is 2 levels and the bedroom is technically in the attic with super low ceilings. Half of our bedroom is original brick, lots of soft yellow, red, and purple patina. I did the other three walls and ceiling BM's swiss coffee, and DIY'd board and batten with Behr's Shoelace. Between the brick, olive green linen curtains and low lighting, swiss coffee reads like a very pale yellow but it's so pretty in our space.
Hi, funny and talented man. Just in the process of redoing our bedroom and yes, our house is totally done in Benjamin Moore Simply White. I want a bright sunny bedroom but since installing a crisp white headboard, I decided it needs painting. So glad you said to pick a warm white, and as in your photo example, it was like Bingo! That's what I thought too, just enough pigment for a tiny bit of contrast. Can you possibly share what color was used in that photo? It was perfect and exactly what will blend with everything Ive chosen so far. Rug, furniture, accessories, etc. Thanks!
I use Benjamin Moore Shadow (dark purple/grey) for about half the walls in the main space in my studio apartment (which has a huge window) and it's been great
Dear Daddy, As always, the information you share with us is insightful and inspirational. You make high-end design feel approachable, and I truly appreciate that. I did notice one small detail in the video: when the section on the color “Blue” begins, the word displayed is “Green” in blue color. I wonder if that was intentional. With my admiration and best wishes,
I want a class on white. I actually mean that. EDIT: Hell, I'd love a full course on color including a special on nothing but neutrals. And a blue/grey video would be helpful, too. I'd die if that were a regular thing.
My bdrm is JUNGLE RED, or close to it. I love it, but time to change after 4 yrs..thinking about a deep eggplant color or a deep red wine, altho could go terracotta. I love it and generally sleep like a log. When people see it they make jokes about passionate activities that the color must inspire, when in actuality, the livingroom, which is painted a subtle lime color, is where the fun stuff happens!😊
As I always say, as long as you love it, that’s all that matters! Ever colour will have a different reaction per person, that’s the great thing about colour. I love a deep eggplant, makes for a gorgeous cacooning effect in a bedroom 🙌🏼
I agree on white, esp if your bedding and everything is white. I couldn't relax in such a room. Kim K's bedroom is a vacant as she is. Warm white is boring too and kinda looks dirty to me. Yellow, no. Blue, no. Pink, hell no. Not my vibe. I could do a few shades of green but I'd rather just add plants or accents than do it on the wall. Dark and moody I'm all about. I disagree on the red though as it's my fav color and I find it very cozy and happy. If I'm stressed, I look at red for a bit and I feel a lot better. lol It speaks to my soul. That said, I wouldn't overdo or have an all red room, esp a bright red. Brick red though, great for the walls if you have a lot of wood tones in the room too. Terracotta too. Love it. I'd do rusty or deep reds for a bedroom and brighter reds for a kitchen or space you want to feel energized. Every room in my house has some red in it. Different shades depending on the room. It grounds me and makes me happy. lol
Do you feel as though having these preferred colors as an accent wall will have the same effects? I have a very large room and I'm not sure I want to paint the entire room those darker colors, especially since my office desk is also in there.
I have seen these beautiful dark bedrooms and well balanced with “lighter” bedding and furniture, and paintings and the color of the curtains, also if you choose not only to paint one wall but using a beautiful wall paper is absolutely a game changer. The color of our spaces it is very crucial, but is just one of the many things to put into consideration to makes that color really work
In case he doesn't see this; try googling Dutch Boy Ashton Orange. That's what we have and I really love it. I've kept it for about 20 years now and still am not sick of it.
Talk neutrals, blacks, whites, brick colors in brown tones with silver and gold tones for mirrors, fixtures, etc... I looking for a browstone-loft style... city elegance... I face ACNJ skyline, I'm on the beach in Brigantine NJ... I don't care for color or seashore themes... I like a white shell or starfish secretly here or there... lol... I love dark and moody but don't want to feel like I'm in a dungeon ... no windows, only three huge sliders and a skylight...it provides lots of natural light. Thx... 😊
I painted my bedroom black and have a lot of dark wood and LED candles and i love it. But I'm trying to have a bedroom like a vampire castle who's also a blacksmith 😂
I’m trying to have a moody warm bedroom. I’m also trying to warm up my greige walls in the rest of the house. I’m having trouble finding the right color. They seem to be either too pink, orange, yellow or grey. My floors have a lot of grey in them so I’m trying to bring the browns out. I see the minute differences so it just makes me crazy!
You’re on the right track, beige and warmer tones can help drown out the grey flooring, I personally have grey flooring and detest them, so I bring in warmer tones and larger area rugs to hide them so they aren’t the first thing you notice
Ballet White looks pretty good in my cottage of grey (with some beige, thankfully) floors throughout (a 2016 reno). I did so much research - feel like I earned a "PhD in White" - before picking it!
@designdaddy What are your thoughts on Sherwin Williams Antler Velvet for bedroom walls and ceiling, for a room facing NE? Does this evoke a hug or a dungeon?
As a Chinese, we only have a red bedroom once in our lifetime: night of the wedding. Yellow is reserved for the emperor (no Chinese person wears yellow to this day).
Some of us live in places where the light intensity is way up in summer and way down in winter. What is design Dady's room color and or window treatment work around.
My bedroom color is sherwin Williams Shitake (mushrooms) & I love it. On a separate note: why do you remind me of Adam Lambert? Is it your fashion sense?
I used Benjamin Moore Indian White, a complex cream, in most of my house, including our bedroom. The front of our house doesn’t get direct sunlight after noon and it helps maximize the light we do get, and looks great at all times of day. Our furniture is wormwood with a “orange” stain, we have midnight blue bedding, and maple stained cement floors.
My bedroom has a warm white and gray and black palette, I have one piece of art on the wall that is red which I use as an accent piece, I wonder if it’s design daddy approved :-)?
What does it mean when you say “almost” create a warm and cozy bedroom. I’m not going for almost honey. I want the full on “warm and cozy”. So …. What colour have you got for that?
Yes... love to hear all about whites. Really torn about what white to use in a large multi purpose room. So, I'm stuck with a oh-so-ugly weird print-painted drywall. Help!
Colour drenching is super popular right now, I would consider it very trendy to have the entire room paint d the same. I would commit to the ceiling and walls first to see how you feel in the space before doing any built ins in the same colour
Putting together a video on whites! I know they can be tricky. I also added to my free interior design guide on my website, my favourite whites and how they react in different sun facing rooms, that can help in the meantime 🥰
Moody bedrooms and kitchens is the move
My speciality 🙌🏼

How did you find your designer? :)
Thank you for mentioning this option! It hadn't occurred to me to hire a designer as a consultant, rather than a contractor! 🥰

I have had a Terracotta bedroom in my last three homes. Walls and ceiling. The BEST bedroom color.
I’m so glad this is starting to become popular: such an underrated colour 🥰

Yes!!! Blue has always been my go to personally and it makes a space feel so dynamic, yet timeless 🤍

How did you know I’m trying revive my mud room/foyer. Good advice. Wish I had a better budget😂
A little bit at a time you don’t have to do everything all at once :)
Dear Daddy,
As always, the information you share with us is insightful and inspirational.
My bedroom is black and it’s my favorite space my home. It’s moody, it’s sexy, it’s calming, it’s everything!
Yes! I love ❤️ just shared a recent renovation where we did black and it’s 🔥
@@mrphoenixgreywell let me go find it!
Just joined your channel….you are so fun! Love it!!
Thank you so much! Always got something to share 🥰
favorite colors Royal Blue & emerald green
It grounds me and makes me happy. lol
Love your ideas, but please, please show more examples 😁
Do you feel as though having these preferred colors as an accent wall will have the same effects? I have a very large room and I'm not sure I want to paint the entire room those darker colors, especially since my office desk is also in there.
I have seen these beautiful dark bedrooms and well balanced with “lighter” bedding and furniture, and paintings and the color of the curtains, also if you choose not only to paint one wall but using a beautiful wall paper is absolutely a game changer. The color of our spaces it is very crucial, but is just one of the many things to put into consideration to makes that color really work
Video of 50 shades of white pleaseeeeee
HEY DD! For a terracotta bedroom that's still feels comfy and moody, what BM or SW color do you recommend?
In case he doesn't see this; try googling Dutch Boy Ashton Orange. That's what we have and I really love it. I've kept it for about 20 years now and still am not sick of it.
I want an "ALL BLACK WALLS AND CEILING BEDROOM FOR A SMALL 10X10 ROOM WITH MED/LIGHT WOOD FLOORS" video! PLEEEEEASE!!! ❤🎉😊
Thx... 😊
I actually liked the terracota but what colors were in that picture?????
More on color theory please
@designdaddy What are your thoughts on Sherwin Williams Antler Velvet for bedroom walls and ceiling, for a room facing NE? Does this evoke a hug or a dungeon?
As a Chinese, we only have a red bedroom once in our lifetime: night of the wedding.
Yellow is reserved for the emperor (no Chinese person wears yellow to this day).
Would be great to get actual sherwin Williams color examples. 😊
Putting together a video list for all my fav colours and brands
Ha! You said, “pops of Color”!
I must admit..when I was in my late teens my bedroom was yellow WITH pine furniture!!. 😂
Some of us live in places where the light intensity is way up in summer and way down in winter. What is design Dady's room color and or window treatment work around.
When I moved into my house my bedroom was Camel. I am still trying to figure out if it works, I paired it with Navy.
Excellent choice 🙏🏼
Ooops... 12:03
*blue 💙
One quick question, is turquoise the best or the worst color you should use for your room
It is very bright in the morning, which my husband likes; I wear a sleep mask and will hide from the light under the covers if necessary.
Omg … you are hilarious. Also i also watch to admire your outfits
What do have to say about gray? I have an iron pewter bed that seems like gray would work.
Terracotta is what I plan to make my bathroom. The brick road less traveled ... stop telling everyone!
5:52 Love hotels in Korea often have red light bulbs .🤔 Wonder if they are trying to stimulate love and passion or caution?
That’s an excellent question, my next one would be, is it the hourly rate hotels? That would determine it for sure! Haha 🤣
Do you have any terracotta recommendations?
Video coming up with my favourite color recommendations 🤍
I like the color SAGE
Kim K's decor looks like something out of a dystopian nightmare 🫣😱😭
Yes... love to hear all about whites. Really torn about what white to use in a large multi purpose room. So, I'm stuck with a oh-so-ugly weird print-painted drywall. Help!
I gotcha! stay tuned, and thanks for watching 🤍
❤❤❤❤ my bedroom is blue , I Pass 😂
Yesss 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Question: Why was the onscreen coloured uppercase heading for BLUE, actually blue coloured yet spelt GREEN?
We realize we made that editing mistake afterwards 🫠🫠
Any input on painting everything; walls, ceiling and bics the same inky blue?
Colour drenching is super popular right now, I would consider it very trendy to have the entire room paint d the same. I would commit to the ceiling and walls first to see how you feel in the space before doing any built ins in the same colour
@@mrphoenixgrey thanks! Will give it a whirl.
I love the people who do their entire home in white and beige, with daring slashes of ecru.
Oh wait. That’s everyone right now.
What colors are the walls behind you???
The black wall?
But I have my office in my north facing bedroom . I wanted to paint it Simply White. Thoughts?
Putting together a video on whites! I know they can be tricky. I also added to my free interior design guide on my website, my favourite whites and how they react in different sun facing rooms, that can help in the meantime 🥰
@@mrphoenixgrey thank you!
