Don't know much about English football in the 70s but this is top notch viewing. A shame TV stations can't run interviews and conversations like this now. These days football commentators and interviewers think they are as important as the players and managers. Most interviews are either about scoring a 'gotcha', luring out a controversial statement or creating a headline. The best interviewers know when to shut up and let their subjects speak, as this bloke did.
Funny thing is he achieved what he said he wanted to do at Leeds in this interview, shortly after at Nottingham Forest (won the league have lost only 3 games and European cup).
@MySilverr A good point - although the same could be said had Leeds appointed Johnny Giles and kept the continuity within the club - In 1974 there was no bigger club in the British game than Leeds -The best young players in the land would have jumped to have joined them - it's not unconcievable to say that the likes of Dalglish & Souness could have been tempted to Leeds in this era instead of Liverpool - considering the Leeds Scotish connections - had there been more stability in the club
Only because Leeds were in the middle of a fixture pile up ( due to their own success ) and they were knackered. A fresh Leeds team would have seen a different result. You Celtic fans must dine out on that story. Shows how big Leeds were at that time. that you still gloat about beating them. Enjoy your 3 team pisspot league!
Like all drunks, Clough was his own worst enemy. A leader but childish, gifted but childish, amazing achievements in his career, but childish. He didn’t just let himself down. By the time he grew up, it was too late.
Clough was one of a kind. You have to respect his brutal honesty. Players these days are taught how to speak to media these days. There is no point in listening to it because They're basically bullshitting. Apart from Souness, Merson and Roy Keane
Clough ought to have told Revie to piss off. Who is Revie to ask these sorts of questions of Clough? He was out of Leeds by then! It was a shithouse trick by Yorkshire Television to pull this stunt off in the first place.
+neil craig A bit of a dirty trick, maybe, but a very interesting result, with the animosity, Revie arrogance v Clough's ego.
Yes but Leeds won the league in '69 and only lost twice (look it up). So Clough didn't do it better than Don Revie.
There can be no doubt that Clough did respect Revie.
Both absolute legends.
yes - that is obvious from this interview. Clough is all over Revie - hanging on every word.
Big Don forever topping charts
Gary Lineker the original Alan Partridge
😁
More like the original FA Cup
Pipe to pipe bushman
Also Don, the disciplinary chart. You topped that. - completely knocked him off his stride and the interview changed course. Owned!
“Well I could only lose 3” 😂👌🏻
What Clough didn't know, and what Revie clearly forgot, was that when Leeds won the league for the first time, 68/69 they only lost twice!
I wish football was still like this.
Celtic were a better side than Leeds, We beat them easily in 2 games in the European cup,
When? Do you have dates please.
Stuart Clark april 1970. 2-1 and 1-0 to Celtic.
Rangers also beat Leeds in both legs the last time Leeds were English champions.

I think Don more than holds his own in this Interview.
That being said I wish he had had more time, the wonders he could have done for Leeds.
Like all drunks, Clough was his own worst enemy. A leader but childish, gifted but childish, amazing achievements in his career, but childish. He didn’t just let himself down. By the time he grew up, it was too late.
Oh dear, someone actually thinks the film is reality...
You have no idea what you're talking about.
86compgeek Thank you for your comment. Have you any arguments to back up your comment?
+neil craig A bit of a dirty trick, maybe, but a very interesting result, with the animosity, Revie arrogance v Clough's ego. This interview was at Revie's high point and Clough's low.Clough proved his point by winning the league better and also winning the European Cup. Revie must have been shocked. Taylor should get more credit, though, for his part in Clough's achievements.
neil craig I don’t think either of these great men said or did anything wrong. I’m a Leeds supporter and I think Brian could have done even more than he actually did if he’d stayed at Leeds, empire building stuff.
neil craig at the time of this interview revie was more successful
I couldnt have said it better, spot on!!!!
