The Alan Wake games are scary but they have a love of heart. I’m currently playing the Silent Hill 2 Remake. I never played those before, but I think the creators do a really great job with the atmosphere and puzzle aspect. The whole game is just unsettling. The creatures are extremely terrifying and how light and shadow are used to such a degree as to cause panic and uncertainty. Really good so far! Also, check out Daymare 1994. That game gave me some good jump scares.
The fatal frame series never topped its first entry. The sequal was good, but the first one had that level of creepiness that the rest of the series never seemed to keep.
Fatal Frame was good even the later ones weren't scary just a little creepy but once ghost kept showing up repeatedly where the camera was basically a gun it started feeling a lot like RE4
🎮 Here’s my personal list of the scariest video games I’ve ever played! Keep in mind that this ranking is totally subjective-it's based on my own experiences and what got to me. Plus, since some of these games are over 20 years old, the order might not be perfect; I’d say there’s a chance of maybe about ±5 positions for each title 😊 Enjoy! 1- Silent Hill 2 (2024): Psychological horror, unreliable narratives 2- Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2010): Psychological terror, fear of the unknown 3- The Evil Within (2014): Distorted realities, psychological dread 4- Outlast (2013): Claustrophobic settings, helplessness 5- Dead Space (2008/2023): Dark environments, grotesque creatures 6- Resident Evil 7 (2017): Isolation, grotesque enemies 7- Visage (2020): Eerie sound design, environmental storytelling 8- Silent Hill 3 (2003): Themes of trauma, disturbing imagery 9- Soma (2015): Existential dread, narrative depth 10- Alien: Isolation (2014): Unpredictable antagonist, survival mechanics 11- Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004): Isolation, psychological dread 12- MADiSON (2022): Psychological horror, unsettling atmosphere 13- Resident Evil 2 (2019): Unpredictable enemies, dark settings 14- Resident Evil Village (2021): Eerie ambience, monstrous foes 15- Dying Light (2015): Survival mechanics, night-time terror 16- Prey (2017): Unpredictable enemies, psychological horror 17- Silent Hill (1999): Psychological horror, atmosphere of dread 18- Condemned: Criminal Origins (2006): Uncanny elements, dark atmosphere 19- Resident Evil (2002): Uncanny elements, classic horror 20- Metro: Last Light (2013/2014): Isolation, survival horror 21- Little Nightmares (2017): Grotesque designs, atmosphere of dread 22- Alan Wake 2 (2023): Psychological horror, narrative depth 23- Until Dawn (2015/2024): Player choice, moral dilemmas 24- Resident Evil 4 (2005/2023): Survival horror, intense enemies 25- Metro: Exodus (2019): Desolation, environmental storytelling 26- Last of Us Part II (2020): Narrative themes, deep emotional horror 27- Penumbra: Overture (2007): Psychological horror, atmospheric tension 28- Resident Evil 3 (1999/2020): Intense atmosphere, relentless pursuer 29- Doom 3 (2004): Jump scares, horror atmosphere 30- Amnesia: The Bunker (2023): Limited resources, isolation 31- Dead Space 2 (2011): Intense atmosphere, horrific creatures 32- S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007): Atmospheric dread, isolation 33- Metro 2033 (2010/2014): Dark, claustrophobic environments 34- Alan Wake Remastered (2010/2021): Narrative themes, psychological tension 35- Last of Us Part I (2013/2022): Emotional horror, survival elements
Fatal Frame always has been one of my favourite horrors, and hits me more than the rest. I think ghosts just freak me out. Even though I don't believe in them, their whole concept is creepy af. I was really enjoying Lunar Eclipse before the Steam update made it start crashing, which a lot of people reported, but unfortunately, they did nothing to fix it. So now it just sits in limbo in my steam library... 😢
Subnautica. That is the scariest game I played and it is not even considered as a horror game. Once got caught by a Leviathan and survived, since that I got jumpy every time I hear a growling sound.
I played most of those games and you're right. BUT one game that I personally find pretty much the MOST unnerving and brutally horrifying is SUBNAUTICA. That's a slow burner that will have you SO on the edge that you'll jump whenever you hear a tiny sound somewhere.
Great list! I am limited to Xbox releases, but I've always loved Alien: Isolation, Dead Space 1 and 2, Amnesia, SOMA and Little Nightmares. Another classic is "Prey" by the makers of Dishonored. "Prey" is sci-fi/horror; though not quite as tense as Alien: Isolation, it is very creepy and suspenseful. Also, the original "Dying Light" is scary, suspenseful and downright terrifying after nighfall, when the undead become faster and super aggressive. Edit: The Metro series is also excellent and worthy of this list: Metro 2033, Last Light and Exodus. All post-apocalyptic survival/horror games and very creepy.
For me, the most eerie and atmospheric game I've played was Shadow Man on Sega Dreamcast. The sounds and levels change, but some are so strong in atmosphere, that you feel very alone, cold and hollow. The Playroom level sounds I can still imagine like yesterday
I don't disagree with your list, but I do have a rather obscure suggestion, and that is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. It launched on the Nintendo GameCube and was a terrific horror experience. The ways that it plays with the players via the sanity meter is outstanding. It's largely Lovecraftian horror and expertly done with the technology available at the time.
Even though I favor survival horror like RE, Silent Hill, Evil Within, and others, only Visage makes me scream at night. I would put it at number one for scariest games.
I loved this list! I have played so many of these and TBH, I own a couple of them that I haven't played yet and you have me looking forward to playing those!
Loved the review and I have only stepped into this World completing Alien Isolation and Outlast and this has given me some really good idea. I am now following and I like the way your present, cheers.
for a list about scary games without any title of silent hill??? Doubt!! Even you have problem with the remake, at least put the original one on, then it's a more convincing list.
Great list. I hsve played Soma and it is really good and gesus christ, that ending. But i am sad you didn t put layers of fear here. Really good game man. Maybe in another top most games;)
You forgot two of the most scary and terrifying games ever: "At Dead Of Night" and "Immortality". Both throwbacks to classic CD adventures of the 90s. The first through clever graphics creating an incredibly scary atmosphere, I nearly broke my arm while playing it. The second through it's non linear structure and amazing video sequences one of the most horrifying psychological experiences ever.
I don’t know if it would make the list, but my favorite game is miasmatic. No weapons, you’re a botanist with a believed incurable disease. Your only enemy is the illness itself. Psychologically draining, but very rewarding.
I played the su cide of Rachael Finch at 1am on a cold, windy mid winters day with surround headphones. I agree with your picks pretty much, but going into that one blind. Didnt know a thing about it? That was next level scary. Its not about what you see... its about what happens in your head as you piece together what you thinks going on... And the sound!!! Am i alone? Is there someone or someones else in here with me? Still my favourite unsettling game. Take the time to read any things you find written down too. There are disturbing levels to that game.
Outlast, The Evil Within, Soma, Little Nightmares, Alien Isolation. I didn't think they were very scary at all, I really enjoyed them. But that may say more about me than the fear factor of the game. Also the Amnesia games are so good!
After Visage I never found a game making me feel the same. It was short but it was perfect. I wish I could erase my memory just to feel the same. Since then I am on a search for a game that is almost the same.
Idt Condemned is underrated. It was pretty well received at release and most horror fans grabbed it. Horror was and still is a niche genre. Thank god Soma was on the list. I’d have to question your list if it wasn’t. And the little nightmares games!
From oldest to newest: Alone in the Dark 1+2, Clive Barker's: Undying, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, DreadOut 1+2, Devotion (especially that one). If you haven't played Devotion yet, you should.
All these games are spine chilling but I'm old school lol when the First RESIDENT EVIL came out OMG! it was like watch The First Nightmare on Elm Street or The First Friday the 13th movie
The DLC for RE: Village, I love horror games, but there was (No spoilers, but anyone who's played it will know) THAT ONE BIT, Jebuzz that was the only time I can remember a computer game scaring me!
As a horror genre veteran can't agree with this list, is not the "scariest" games, its just a random list. If you are uploading crap lists at least make a little research. For instance, how ignorant can you be of you didn't include Madison? Maybe you would have included it if you knew it's recognized scientifically as the scariest game ever made. MADiSON received an aggregate Metacritic score of 75/100 for its PC version, indicating "generally favorable" reviews, and 72/100 for its PS5 version, indicating "mixed or average reviews". Maybe people are mostly afraid of using an instant camera.
You know your stuff , your Top 2 are Pure Terror and rightly at The Top, I love extreme Horror but would never play Resident Evil 7 with a VR Headset , that is Heart Attack Territory 👌
For a game to count as a survival horror game there needs to be no reward in engaging in combat, that's when you know you're playing a survival horror game when you're weighing up in your mind wether it's worth spending bullets on an enemy and maybe getting hurt and needing to use health items too, RE7 in 2017 was the first mainline RE game since RE2 in 1998 in which there are no item drops from enemies whatsoever, enemies dropping items after being killed (such as Dead Space) doesn't mean the game isn't horror as horror is a theme but it does mean it's not a survival horror game which is a very specific genre with specific rules attached to wether it qualifies as a survival horror game or wether its just a horror game, so Imo RE7 did represent the series going back to roots with that all important decision of discouraging combat rather than rewarding it with item drops, that's my opinion anyway, if yours is different I respect that.
@@redplanet667 hey in RE2 Tyrant left a lot of goodies (ammo, etc) when you knocked him out. You could run away from him for sure, but there was a big reward if you engaged him. To me survival is not necessarily having cero reward if killing or not, but being that a decision you need to make carefully and assess the cost-benefit: do I need to go back that corridor again so better clear my way out? should I spend bullets on this guy for the reward but risking getting hit and not having much health afterwards? etc But yeah then of course there are pure 100% survival games that you don't even have weapons, and those tend to be more psychological as well.
@@sergiobarbieri9325 you're absolutely correct, I forgot that the original RE2 did have Mr X drop items, so in actual fact RE7 was the first mainline entry since the very first game in which there were no item drops which really does represent a return to roots for the series.
Madison vr has to be the scariest game ever. Especially if you haven't played the pancake version and don't know what to expect. And dead space is a piece of piss if take advantage of the weapon upgrade glitch. Weapons can be fully upgraded as soon as it's in your hands for nothing
Havnt played some of these but they ones i have that definitely are not scary are dead space, outlast, evil within, until dawn, any resident evil. However one game you didnt put is Paranormal activity. i played it in vr and that game felt quite creepy and uncomfortable at times. Its the only horror game that ever made me feel that way apart from one level is project zero/fatal frame maiden of black water. The level in the house with the tall lady ghost that looks in the camera and then when you open the door her head is at the top staring at you.
The only game I've played among these, is Little Nightmares... Loved it although it wasn't very scary in my opinion... I thought Little Nightmares 2 was a bit scarier actually.
Dude....for the love of god can you get your audio level nice and good so i dont have to turn volume down every time you end up speaking and in game audio begins. Nice video but that was annoying.
fatal frame - alien isolation - outlast..............are the best .......but alien is very very scary he become better smarter as you play and use you inteligence he learn from you.........that's the artificial inteligence we need for hadest mod in games
The Evil Within 10/10
WE NEED The Evil Within 33333333333333333333333333333333

It's an old one, but The Suffering is an amazing game that you have to play.
Resident Evil 7 in vr mode is one of the best survival horror games. The immersion is unlike any other games i played before.
I didn't want to play it any other way, so i found a deal on VR headset, and it was definitely worth it.

Honestly dead space is one of the scariest games I’ve ever played since the ps3 days. Fatal frame and silent hill 4 too was scary on ps2 days .
Subnautica. That is the scariest game I played and it is not even considered as a horror game. Once got caught by a Leviathan and survived, since that I got jumpy every time I hear a growling sound.

Madison should be #1
Glad I seen The Evil Within on someone’s list. This game was scary good. Part 2 is also good but a little different
Ahh you forgot to include Madison. That game is scary af....
You’re forgetting the Silent Hill 2 remake. That game is creepy.
No, that gameplay is repetitive, few enemiy variations and the protagonist is like action hero. So NO.
The original was more scary than the remake.

You can take fatal frame horror seriously with them wearing those outfits
since i played the evil within, other scary games just a piece of cake
For me, the most eerie and atmospheric game I've played was Shadow Man on Sega Dreamcast. The sounds and levels change, but some are so strong in atmosphere, that you feel very alone, cold and hollow. The Playroom level sounds I can still imagine like yesterday
I LOVE that game! I’m so glad someone else has played it. Quite creepy in parts.
How do you not have Silent Hill series in this List???
Maybe because they are not THAT horrifying... I love their atmosphere and mystery/mysery, but Outlast & co. are different, I feel.
I don't disagree with your list, but I do have a rather obscure suggestion, and that is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. It launched on the Nintendo GameCube and was a terrific horror experience. Nice selection. The Bendy ones are those I highly recommend too.
“Fatal frame mask of lunar eclipse” is excellent for a man of culture players haha
I like fatal frame 2. I forgot, mayu or mio, was the creepy twin, but the game was peak creepy it self ndd yes fatal frae 4 also
Even though I favor survival horror like RE, Silent Hill, Evil Within, and others, only Visage makes me scream at night. I would put it at number one for scariest games.
Guess Silent Hill isn't scary. Could have fooled me

Silent hill is classic.
Strongly Agreed
He just say that it's his favorite horror games, you must include some SH one of early horror games.😅
I partly agree with your list. missing games for me: Silent Hill, Emily Wants To Play, Dino Crisis, Martha is Dead, The Suicide Of Rachel Foster.
He said twelve list of horror games , not thirteen list of horror games😂
Yes, DEFINATELY.
Also, Fetal Frame
Amnesia was one of the few horror games where I didn't want to progress , definitely an experience
Misspelling the title is embarrassing
Definately is DEFINITELY spelled wrong too
Fatal frame is the hardest, cuz playing with one hand is hard
LOL

I was really surprised that Fear from the ps3 wasn't included
I don’t know if it would make the list, but my favorite game is miasmatic. No weapons, you’re a botanist with a believed incurable disease. Your only enemy is the illness itself. Psychologically draining, but very rewarding.
silent hill 2 remake💀

@WowbaggerTheInfinitelyProlonge I agree alien isolation is my favourite.

@@sergiobarbieri9325 you're absolutely correct, I forgot that the original RE2 did have Mr X drop items, so in actual fact RE7 was the first mainline entry since the very first game in which there were no item drops which really does represent a return to roots for the series.
@@redplanet667 indeed!
You should check out “Colina Legacy” third person horror and even save rooms aren’t safe!
When AI voiceovers learn to pause, as if for breath, as humans do for emphasis, they'll be a lot harder to detect.
Alien Romulus after watching im sure took some things from Alien Isolation like the crashed ship into the bigger one to maroon them and so on.
“Definitely”
You should also check out the Forbidden Siren games
Yay bath friend!
You forgot Amnesia Rebirth bloody hell that was scary😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
RE7 is the Best RE game and also my favorite horror game
They are all scary. Not for the faint of heart.
The only game I've played among these, is Little Nightmares... Loved it although it wasn't very scary in my opinion... I thought Little Nightmares 2 was a bit scarier actually.
Dead space could have been a VR game
nice list, thanks
Dude....for the love of god can you get your audio level nice and good so i dont have to turn volume down every time you end up speaking and in game audio begins.
Nice video but that was annoying.
fatal frame - alien isolation - outlast..............are the best .......but alien is very very scary he become better smarter as you play and use you inteligence he learn from you.........that's the artificial inteligence we need for hadest mod in games
RE7 Biohazard in VR. I had to complete it flat-screen. Maybe one day I’ll complete it VR but I doubt it
