  • In this video I explain the Zoroastrian Creation Myth, and since the deity 'Zurvan' is depicted with a snake twirled around its body, I also got into the symbolism behind this image.

Oh cool, so y'all basically came up with so much of the snake symbolism later picked up by the deities Hermes and Asclepius in the Greek pantheon. (My ancestors were Greek)
Much respect. The whole Magi spiriting Jesus away to Egypt thing was pretty cool too.
In Europe and North America we owe so much of our culture to the ancient Iranians yet treat them with the utmost disrespect. I apologize on behalf of my people to yours. I hope scholarship and the pursuit of truth continue to unravel the reality of what happened. And I pray 🔥🙏🪷 (and vote when they let me) the sanctions on the Iranian people end swiftly.

Hi my friend, Zoroaster was a philosopher who fought against Mitraism and Zurvanism. He focused on agriculture and knowledge instead of hunting, sacrificeing and superstitious. Zoroaster at first was a Mitraism magus and monk but after years he transformated and he fought against Mitraism monks. He used to say there is only one god and it is called "Mazda :مزدا" that means "Lord of Wisdom:مَس دانش" . He said Mazda created "Asha اشا" that means "integrity, honesty, tha rythem of universe " and Asha is Good and every illusion that doesn't follow Asha are Evil or AshaMoogh. Zoroaster said there were six good adjectives that are called "Amshaspandanامشاسپندان". Unfortunately after his death, his words falsified by his enemies or Mitraism monks and these Amshaspandan became assistants of ancient gods and knide of angles ! For instance "Bahman: امشاسپند بهمن" that means "Good Thought" embodied as a man who carried a white rooster. To conclude, current Zoroastrism is falsified by Mitraism monks or Sasanid magus. Real Zoroaster was a sophisticated philosopher who didn't belive in superstitious only believed in Mazda that means Lord of wisdom and only followed one approach that was called Asha. Most parts of Avesta are not Zoroaster's words and Avesta is older than him. Only "Gatha: گات ها" is his real words and it is less falsified. Snake is symbol of health and heaven you can find it in Gilgamesh, Zahhak and ningishzida or DNA since symbolically, snake skins will be changed. Lion and eagles are symbol of Sun and his chariot respectively. Cow is symbol of earth and agriculture but he was against Sun and Mithras so he became kind of evils in Jewish. For instance you see Devil has horns like cow since cannans used to worship Cow : Baal before Jewish immigration .

Nice video. I like the way that you tackled the meaning of the snake symbolism. Especially, I pondered for some time about the meaning of golden snake in the Exodus story. I struggled to relate it to everyday life - if snakes are for example our passions, how would it be exactly helpful to put them on a pedestal, so to say. But I got it wrong - it is about exposure of the evil, because when the evil is exposed it is less powerful. So it was helpful to me, the way you have explained it :)

For the subject of creation, one should refer to chapter 44 of the Gathas of Zarathushtra. In that chapter, Ahura Mazda is the sole creator and sustainer of the universe Who is not supported by another positive force or confronted by a negative entity who wants to destroy the magnificent creation. In Zarathushtra's mindset, Ahriman, devil or Satan as an entity does not exist. It is in Budahishn, a Pahlavi writing of the third century Islamic era that Ahura Mazda is confronted by Ahriman who intend to destroy the magnificent creation. In Yasna 44, Zarthushtra carefully guides us through all aspects of creation, the law of harmony, Asha, the phenomenon, called love, mutual love between parents and children, the love toward God, humanity and the living world and will approach the Great Mind or the Wisdom of Ahura Mazda, the Wise Creator.

Pay attention on what makes you aggressive. What do you hate most about other people? What makes you angry at them? Then think about how the things that make you angry are actually a part of you. That's why it makes you angry, because it's the part of yourself that you actually hate the most. But you repressed it to the unconscious. Realize that there is as much evil inside you as there is good. The process of starting to realize and reflect on yourself can take a while (maybe a year) and you have to be deadly honest to yourself. At first that is really terrifying, but eventually you'll get used to it, and you'll be able to solve a lot of problems. Transcending evil eventually means that you have to be aware of it in yourself, and once you become aware of it, you can use it to solve problems.

Fantastic video, so much knowledge had to pause several times to soak it in.
Here are my thoughts while listening...
Zurvan makes me think Brahman and also of the Buddhist view of emptiness
In the moment of doubt we create the negative - wow
The 12000 year cycle sounds vaguely similar to hindu’s 4 yugas. Thats interesting, also makes me think of the stages of life.
Darkness attacked light not out of hate but out of jealously.
Their creation myth reminds me of the Silmarillion creation story.
A lie - could be seen as “ignorance” “False view” Quite buddhist & vedanta
St. Thomas Aquinas was also called The Stubborn Ox
Shiva is also depicted with Nandi I believe she's an ox
Snake is huge in Vedanta also - “Ignorance is seeing the rope as a snake” & their Kundalini path
Describing the snake going around the tree but returning to itself made me think of Ouroboros
You use the disease to fight the disease wowowoww your fear is actually a vaccine
Everyone who looks at the snake will not be affected by the snake bite. Aka anyone who faces their fear stops suffering from the fear.

How you described the snake being symbolized as time blew my socks off....and i wasn't even wearing socks. wth
    Questions..
What does it mean to eat your twins? That struck me.
What is the take away message from the motive of the hostile brothers?
    David

    • @literatureworld1
      @literatureworld1  4 роки тому

I'm so happy to see such enthusiasm!
To answer your questions: I think that eating the twins is like the ouroboros. Eating your own children, abortion, cannibalism, eating yourself, (even sodomy) it's all the same thing. Nothing can grow out of it. It's stuck in itself and it's eating itself. It's the destroying power of chaos.
About the hostile brothers, I'll have to come back to you about that later. I won't be able to give a good explanation now. I know Jordan Peterson has a chapter about it in his book 'Maps of Meaning', but I would have to check that again. (From what I remember it's the idea that the hostile brothers are each others opposites, so in this myth it's a clear distinction between good and evil, and eventually one will kill the other.)

    • @David.McCartney
      @David.McCartney 4 роки тому +2

@@literatureworld1 So what does it mean for the first parents to eat their twin children?
Ahhh yes I understand now (hostile brothers). In Hindu myth Ganesh and Kartikeya are a brotherly pair (Sons of Shiva (collective unconscious) & Prakriti (creative potential))...They do not seem to be hostile towards each other but in one of their main legends, they are put to compete against each other in a race around the world... Kartikeya (god of war) jumped on his chariot, a peacock (ego) and ran off immediately. Ganesh (elephant god, remover of obstacles) who's chariot is a mouse (mind) knew there was no way he could ride on the back of his mouse across the world. So he sat with his mouse in silence (meditated). Soon the insight was revealed to him... He went to his parents and said that according to the Vedas (hindu scripture), Shiva and Shakti are the entire universes so walking around them is like walking around the world. So with a few steps around his parents, he won the competition.
God these old stories are a lot for the imagination haha... but the message... Intellect and love wins over strength and power.... is an interesting one.

Zurvanism is not Zoroastrianism. Long after Zoroaster’s death (approx 2700BC) people lost their ways and Zurvanism was established among other rivers of belief that had some roots in Zoroastrianism but they were not Zoroastrianism. Some researchers confused these variations of Zoroastrianism with the true philosophical bases of the original Zoroastrianism because during the Sassanid dynasty they reestablished Zoroastrianism as the State religion of Iran. The Sassanid State collapsed all variations beliefs into one book called Avesta and they even invented in a new writing system called Avestan to write the Avesta. The Abrahamic religions adopted many concepts of Zoroastrianism, including worshipping “one” god. In Zoroastrian religion god is called Ahura Mazda. In judaism, christianity and Islam Ahura Mazda is called god.

Your presentation is very interesting and your synthesis is very well done.
But inevitably incomplete, in a time of 17 minutes...
And I would just like to complete it with an aspect that you might have missed (?).
ZURVAN like CHONOS, if they are indeed divinities of TIME, they are also divinities of DESTINY / FATE. And it seems that you didn't mention it (or I may have missed it ?...) !
And this second function of DESTINY (probably inseparable from the one of "TIME's manager" ) is very important because it refers to the principle of the IMPLACABLE WILL of all those more or less similar great gods of time who are responsible for making the SOCIALIZING and CIVILIZATIONAL ORDER reign over humanity after the ORIGINAL CHAOS.
And moreover, closer to our time, it refers to the famous Muslim fatalism of the expression "if god wills (it)" (the famous "incha 'allah", transcription of the Arabic "إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّٰهُ", this "incha 'allah" which, compulsively and almost robotically, accompanies any uncertain evocation of the future in the discourse of Muslims), fatalism therefore whose relentless aspect we understand better when we now know all its original course (from India , via Persia), namely the imperative for the divinities of time to impose the socio-mythological ORDER in order to "civilize" chaos and that men can therefore live in groups without destroying each other mutually because of their natural "death drive" (in the Freudian sense) which is, at the same time, a "life drive", or a "death drive" whose natural and animal destiny is to "consume life", originally without too much regard for the other ! ...
    NB :
This expression of "death drive" correspond to the french translation and interpretation of the german "Bemächtigungstrieb" (or “Bewältigungstrieb”), german expression which can be translated by “power drive”, which means “the other-directed destructive drives”, or the “pulsion or instinct or drive to empower (to master in the sens of an absolute control) or overpower” the other, and that Nietzsche has recovered for his concept of “will to power”…
Finally, as the gods are the product and the projective construction of men (and of course not the reverse !...), we have here, in the image of these "gods of time", the perfect projection of these small groups of men dominators who, as real political oligarchs disguised as religious, have thus shaped, through an inaugural, mythological and cosmological fraudulent fiction, the humanization/socialization/civilization of the primitive and laborious human horde for the sole interest and benefit of their own tribe or near community of self-proclaimed dominant and dominating elites.
    Q.E.D. !...

long back 10 man or sages spread out to whole earth and establish humanity all over the word.
the origin of these 10 people was either india or Iran, zorastrian is indeed following Vedic culture eventually over several 1000 years the stories got changed like Chinese whisper. if you see the stories Iranian or Persian seems to have a great connection with lord ayyapan also called irappan or iyavvan and probably from the word ayyapan became iyyapan and then irrappan and hence Iran came out if it.
lord ayyapan was son of Shiva born from Shiva and mohini (vishnu female) and Iran might be his in laws abode or his home. it's difficult to find but it is clear that entire Iran religion Persian religion has a strong connection with him.
word gatha, pitamah, rastra, asha these all are Sanskrit words.
gatha means poetic way of putting historical events also used as synonym for word story.
pitamah means a great figure such as great grand father
rastra means nation you can see still it is used widely in india e.g. maha rastra
    asha means hope
you are right about snake too, in astrology the word timeline used as snakeoftime (kaalsurp) literal meaning snake of time.
there are troubles in astrology with timeline it is referred as kaalsurp dosha (bad effect of your timeline of snake also used synonym as life line)
i also feel that's why doctor around the world use snake wrapped symbol in medical receipt.

You can search the Kiomarsian . The religion of sassanid .
Kiomarseh are those who believe in the precedence of Giomers. They believe in two principles: Yazdan and evil and say that Yazdan is the eternal and the devil is a creature and a creature, and they say that the creation of the devil was that Yazdan thought in his heart, 'If I had a conflict, could it be?' And this bad idea was incompatible with the nature of light, and it was created from that darkness and was called the devil. His nature was evil, sedition, corruption, corruption, and harm. He went out on the light and opposed his nature and speech.
It is very like Zurvan, I think the Yazdan in sahaname and other Iranian book was referring to Zurvan

The seed of the Good and Evil is in Chaotic nothingness.. The seeds of order and the loss of vitality when order is set is in chaos.. I believe Chaos is the antagonism of different Wills.. And one Will rises to the top, so the Universe impregnated itself, but things can only exist relative to another thing, and the greater the Good the greater its opposite Evil has to be, to define it as a great Good.. Maybe that's what they were tryna say in the beginning.. Or maybe I'm just talking nonsense from my own head 😂😂 These myths are cool though

The problem i have with myth stories is ALL of them speak in the tone of the “Good” side. There never is a story explain the so called “Evil”. in your story around 2:13 someone says the first born shall be good . When the person in the womb heard this he jumped out! then the dad said your the evil one.
Has anyone thought that the reason he ripped himself out of the womb was because He DIDNT WANT TO BE EVIL?????
It’s obvious in this myth that one is going to be all good and loved the other evil and hated. When a woman gives birth to twins, they don’t come out at the same time , one is always the oldest the other youngest.
the youngest heard that the first born will be good and almighty the other ehhh not so good. the youngest said screw that i don’t want to be evil!!!!! But guess what no matter how the outcome he going to be evil!!!
every myth story is like this , someone has to be evil , even if they don’t want to be evil.
and this guy who wanted an almighty , he/she male/female person had to make a SACRAFICE . To who????????! this story implies there is something else greater then this universe person. this person is the universe. let me put it this way. i am the universe , i control time space thought There is nothing greater then me, i make the laws and rules . i am going to make child . the only problem is i must sacrafice something, WHY??????? why would i challenge my own laws when i am omnipotent and omni presence??????
these are the problem myth stories all have
something must be good something must be evil. if you don’t want to be evil , you have no choice

Good and evil are the lenses that trap humanity and prevent us from being like god's, we are far too reactive thus there's a huge push by selfish beings to manipulate that.
Look at how stigma defeats logic and reason in a modern debate.

Peace be upon you, very good
But a critique, history becomes more beautiful with more pictures and maps and pictures. The listener must believe that you are in control of everything. I mean speak with confidence, although there is no certainty in history.
The point of Zarathustra and his religion is that he did not consider himself a prophet and only called for good and considered the human being to be one of the two forces of evil and good, and even believed in the third pole and the existence of a middle force. Zarwan sacrifices the god of the world and demands a son to create a world. The question of who he is sacrificing for is still almost unanswered. And two children will be given to him, one is Ahuramazda and the other is Ahriman. Even in some Iranian myths, the devil is stronger than Ahuramazda, who today form a branch of the Zarwanis. For various reasons, Zarwanis today hide their religion.

Sin is universal problem. Sin is ubiquitous. Humanity contaminated by sin. Sin in us by default, not learnt, not taught. Sin manifests in many forms - evil, crime. Sin is the opium. The origin of sin is unanswered.
    My journey.
Sin is pre-existing in all. Nobody taught us to sin. Sin pre-dates The Bible. The Bible explains origins of sin. The Bible provides remedy for pre-existing sin, through Jesus Christ death and resurrection. The Bible is best selling book in the world for this reason. Sin is real, The Bible is relevant. Sin is born at every child birth. Sin is disease of heart, and Jesus Christ is the cure.
Satan is the enemy, came to steal, kill and destroy. Misleads us to blame good loving God. God is not the author of evil.
Media, Police, Defense, Judiciary, Penitentiary, Security, Contracts confirm sin exists.
The origins of life, natural laws, sin, morals, purpose, meaning, conscience, music, creativity, intelligence, beauty, color, nature, water, air, light and amalgamation, remain unevidenced - elsewhere.
We love truth when it enlightens us, but hate when it convicts us.
Instructing to "Heart wash" from sin is not "Brainwash".
God created universe, placed natural laws, made humans in His image, gave talents, instructed to multiply and explore - The Initiation of Science. Science is the legitimate child of natural laws. Without natural laws science has no foundation.
We are created with good purpose and meaning. We are good. Then sin entered through satan and we all fallen. Disease, despair, deformities, deficiencies, depression, stress, guilt, greed, hate, anger, rebellious spirit, spiritual death entered. Sin plays spoilsport.
Unloose the Soul from the tight knot of sin. Soul outlasts death.
Sinners cannot save themselves from sin. Jesus Christ, the Holy God, intervened, willingly died on The Cross and resurrected, for remmissions of our sins, to save us from sin and hell.
We are weak at the core, however we try to portray otherwise. We need Holy God's help, who is willing to help with open arms.
Unable to find any motive any reason for Jesus Christ to die willingly on Cross and resurrect - except His love to save us from pre-existing sin and hell.
Nobody died for our sins and resurrected - except Jesus Christ. Exclusivity
    Jesus Christ claimed:
"I am The Way, The Truth and The Life". "I am The Resurrection and The Life".
    "I am The Good Shepherd".
Jesus Christ has the authority to forgive sins.
Religion says "Do". Jesus Christ says "Done".
Religion is man's attempts to 'search gods'. Jesus Christ came from heaven in 'search of man'.
Salvation from sin and hell is not earned through works or deeds or pilgrimages or rituals or ceremonies or traditions or cultures or meditations or public displays or hypocrisy or making personal sacrifices or making animal sacrifices.
Salvation from sin and hell is free, but not cheap. Because Jesus Christ laid His life on The Cross, and resurrected.
God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. Just like a parent loves child, but hates disease in child.
We are saved by God's grace, not by our works.
Karma is getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don't deserve. Only Grace can be pre-fixed with word Amazing. Amazing Grace. Karma is not Amazing, it is depressing.
GRACE: Getting what we don't deserve - i.e. forgiveness of sin, eternity in heaven through Jesus Christ.
MERCY: Not getting what we deserve - i.e. punishment of sin, separation from God, eternity in hell.
Other side of death is eternity. Either in hell; or in heaven through Jesus Christ.
God offers grace and mercy for free through Jesus Christ death and resurrection.
Jesus Christ suffered, ridiculed, spat-on, humiliated, crucified on The Cross, and therefore He understands our pain. He raised victorious, we will too. Those who endure till end are victorious.
Jesus Christ coming again to judge all. The doors will be closed. Jesus Christ reveals every mystery, answers every question. We all deserve to know the truth. He is The Alpha and The Omega. He judges everyone.
One day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
The First Christmas - Jesus Christ came to earth from heaven to save us from pre-existing sin.
The First Good Friday - Jesus Christ crucified to The Cross, died willingly for remission of our sins.
The First Resurrection Day, also linked to Easter - Jesus Christ resurrected from death.
Jesus Christ made entry to Holy Heaven free through Him. Repent of sin and be saved. Easy.
The First Coming of Jesus Christ - He is Lamb, slaughtered for remission of sins
to save us from sin and hell. And resurrected.
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ - He will be Lion, The Judge.
    The Lamb and The Lion.
Jesus Christ forgave all who crucified Him, and now forgives all, even who reject, ridicule and mock Him. He loves all unconditionally.
Believe, trust, repent of pre-existing sin in Jesus Christ that He died for remission of our sins and resurrected, and coming back to judge, accept Him as Lord and Saviour, and be saved from sin and hell. Any time, any where. Even now. Simple.
Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
I found God loved me regardless of sins, weaknesses and rejections by others. As sinner I cannot save myself through deeds. He believed me and has faith in me. I am not in competition with others. God loves you all, individually.
(My journal. Journey to life - after testing all 'isms' and religions, after failing to find origins, purpose and meaning of life, after swallowing pride, egos, anger, hate, depression.)
