Lol Aemond's like " I want your eye." and Nanny Vhagar's like " what's that sonny!? You want him to die? Ok.
Omg 😂😂😂
I saw someone say Vhagar saw dark hair and thought she was chasing a dornishman 💀
Comment section winner 😂
Vhagar: He can keep his eye...
I read this in nana vhagar voice 🤣
I loved how Vhagar moved through the skies like both a giant shark and a snake. And how the storm makes the skies similar to being deep under water with bad visibility. Vhagar, shark of the skies, apex predator. Arrax is just a little guppy swimming for his life. Terrifying!
They did a fantastic job with Arrax's little wings pumping and pumping to gain altitude
Im glad I'm not the only one who thought it felt like they were underwater - which scared the HELL out of me lol I'm terrified of large things in bodies of water that I cant see through so, even knowing what was going to happen, I was absolutely horrified. They did a great job lol
RIP Arrax he was at a huge disadvantage but still gave it his all I'm proud of the little guy
That is such a perfect observation. Vhagar even attacked from below like a great white shark.
Very curious, Do you have children? Inspired insight.
I feel like Daemon's reaction to Rhaenyra talking about the prophesy was like when you're trying to talk about something real and important... and the person you're speaking to is arguing back in conspiracy theory. You don't actually choke them, even if you want to, but Daemon has very little impulse control.
Lol
I know it was coming but I cried when vhaegar ate Lucerys. He was such a sweet kid. Daemon will have his revenge.
The actor of Luke did a really good job, he seemed so scared that I was scared with him. His heavy breathing while still doing what his mother wanted him to do, feeling a duty while still being a kid 🥺
And also the actor is such a cute kid 🥺 it really brought out my maternal instincts and I'm not even a mother lol
Maybe not real symbolism, but its fitting that Daemon leads Rhaenyra to the fire to tell her about Luke in the very last scene. That is where her dragon is woken again. 🔥 🐉 🔥
Crazy part is that Matt Smith offered the idea of Daemon delivering the message with them both walking towards the fire
I think the scene with syrax reacting to Rhaenyra's pain is meant to prime us for vhagar and aemond. Vhagar acted on the emotions of Aemond, she sensed hate and animosity and acted on it.
In the book baby Visenya was like Rhaego. I think they also wanted to give a hint to the readers by showing Syrax during Visenya's unfortunate birth.
@@paolarosichetti899 I actually kept trying to see if Visenya had any dragon-like traits but alas. But that scene was brilliant and heart breaking
@@TheMaYsSA2 maybe the little skull?
@@TheMaYsSA2 I was thinking the same thing, but watching it with three non-book readers, I was very concerned that that might come off. Really weird and creepy. I think the way it was captured was incredibly powerful and tragic.
I love this point, and was thinking the exact same thing. Great episode, but I am interested to see where they go with some of the agency questions, especially with Aemond
The Vhagar and Arrax scene were very realistic. Wild animals don't usually play stalking games for long with each other. At some point teeth and claws will come out🤷🏿♂️. Aemond played a very dangerous game and jumpstarted something prematurely because of it. The dragons as you mentioned also played on the emotions of their riders..
Someone described it as being similar to irresponsible dog owners who handle 'dangerous breeds' and encourage 'playfighting'. Dogs and other canines have very clear rules when it comes to playfighting. If one party suddenly stops playing; the game is over. If the other party misses the que; there will be a little growl or a nip. Nothing more. But when humans get involved and start egging on the playfight between two powerful dogs....accidents will happen
Aemond was controlling vhagar very well untill arrax attacked her , after that the conqueror queen vhagar woke up
A dragon with war and battle experience to boot
@@MrBruh-fz8or 😭
@@jewsco Definitely a nasty combination have following you
Arrax was frightened and vhagar was in predator mode. They acted like dragons. Very sad it went that far.. arrax would’ve been a magnificent dragon.
Aemomd: “Give me your eye!”
Nana Vhagar: “You want him to die?”
Bless her heart! I can confirm hearing gets worse with age 😂
I like the idea of the Shipbreaker Bay Incident being portrayed as an accident. It reminds me of people who own dangerous pets they believe they have full control over. When I was a child, me and my cocker spaniel was attacked by a neighbor's Pitbull they thought they could control. This scene brought that experience I thought I had forgotten back to me.
Viserys knew the Targaryens shouldn't rely on Dragon power, as he warned Rhaenyra back in the first episode, and now things are going to shit in every way he hadn't desired.
I had a similar encounter with a neighbors huge Rottweiler trying to attack my Pomeranian. All the owner could do was yell at him and attempt to pull him away. And when did Zack Galifianakis become Lord of Storm's End.
Reasons I will not adopt rescue pets, they’re unpredictable
@@emperorquinlanix4195 🤣🤣🤣 yes at Zack!!
@@usmcramirez Um that's a dumb reason. Every dog is deserving of a home and the ones in the shelters are there thru no fault of their own. Some are already well trained but just given up by their owners dying or just deciding they don't want them anymore or can't afford to take care of them anymore. Many puppies too. You can train any dog, even if they're older as well. Just look at the Dog Whisperer show.
All this talk of trying to control the dragons natural instinct totally shows us how bad ass the Queen Who Never Was is! The hightowers didn’t burn cuz she didn’t wish it. She’s been bonded with her dragon so long! Their bond is marvelous to behold
well said
Crown should have gone to Rhaenys to Laena to Baela
Vhagar felt Aemond's rage and hatred, Arrax felt Luke's fear so when he turned and shot fire at Vhagar he was saying " Leave me alone you big bully! "
It was like a kid slapping the boxing heavyweight world champion.
Lucerys walked into Storms End looking like a first year Gryffindor. SMH
Oof! Solid burn! 🤣
Ouch and accurate 😂😭😢
Aemond was a slytherin prefect
Poor little Hufflepuff!
@@jschoma11 indeed.
That birth scene brought back a few flashbacks for me. Fun yet sad fact: Its much more painful to miscarry when you're stressed than when you're not. When Rhaenyra got the news and the birth began, thats how mine went down as well. I had been under distress and just like Rhaenyra, it was so painful. Lots of yelling, blood everywhere, but my fetus got stuck where Rhaenyra managed to pushed her's out. But when i miscarried again (3rd time this time), i was super relaxed and chill. Far less painful. The heartache they captured was spot on perfect.
Agreed as someone who also experienced this under distress. It had me in my feels.
I never once thought what affect this scene could have on a woman who has gone through the similar situation. Thanks for sharing your unique insight.
Thank you for sharing that. It really shows that the showrunners dealt with the topic in a realistic and respectful manner. I hate it how often, women's unique challenges aree seen as 'rites of passage' to becoming a strong woman in a storyline(written by men). Which completely downplays reality.. Like Sansa in GoT season 8 saying that all the horrors inflicted on her literal womanhood, are the things what made her strong. WTF? Who wrote this?
in HotD, it is clear that there are women on staff.
Childbirth, agency, womanhood, pregnancy, chauvinism, all these things are being touched upon in this show but this time it feels 'real' and 'respecting the integrity of what it migh have been like for a woman' . If anything, this show is one of the few where women are portrayed as human survivors in the rather than being 'female victims who went through stuff and got 'strong'.
Rant over
Rant over.
Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you for sharing that, I'm so so sorry it happend tho
Just holy shit dude.....no words.....poor kid. That image of that poor boy being swallowed alive and that poor dragon being torn apart and pieces of him falling down.
Poor little Arrax.... he was just a scared, innocent baby dragon trying to puff himself up to look big because he was being chased by someone 4x his size. Granny Vhagar didn't have to take it so personally. The rest of this show is going to be hard. I care far more about the dragons than any of the characters, although Luke and Jace seem like really good kids (unlike Alicant's).
Rhaenyra didn't do her job to prepare Lucerys adequately. In fact, she shouldn't have sent him at all. If she ever learned to read a room she'd remember how she snubbed House Baratheon during her marriage tour, along with every one of its vassal lords, and she'd have known to show up with some humility and a good offer to make peace before issuing demands. Luke was set up for failure from the moment he left.
Rhaenyra's whole problem is that she didn't bother doing the work of preparing to inherit the throne. From the second she was named, she should have been currying favor from the lords of all the houses, knowing she would have to work twice as hard to have their support once Viserys died. She should have been building relationships with her subjects, and knowing about her sons, trotting them out in front of the subjects at every opportunity to get the people to love them and see them as the heirs.
At the very least, she could have been gracious to her hosts on the marriage tour and offered the various vassal lords a way to save face when she turned them down. Then when the time came for her to defend her claim, they'd remember her as having treated them well. She could also have been way more involved in the running of the kingdom, in a public way, so as to have the peoples' confidence in her rule. Knowing that her claim broke with centuries of tradition and that she had bastard sons, it's common sense that she would have to get to work in advance ingratiating herself to the people whose support she would need. Instead Rhaenyra spent her entire adolescence pouting around the castle, frittering her time away on idle pursuits and taking her inheritance for granted, while it was obvious for years that her dad could literally die any day. And leaving for Dragonstone, while it may have been more comfortable, cost her years of opportunity to build necessary relationships for the future and protect herself. The cost to everyone is that a kid the whole of Blackwater Bay knows is a psychopath has now been installed to rule over them.
Watching Aemond react to what he and his dragon did - he looked like he was gonna vomit. Not necessarily because he regretted Luke's death (which I'm pretty sure wasn't what he was trying to cause), but because he clearly realized he fucked up, and I felt that so hard that I almost puked. Ewan Mitchell, man. *deep bow*.
I think Aemond's gonna own this, but probably reveal to someone that it was an accident - likely his mom, helaena, or criston. Doubt he'd tell aegon the truth. Aegon seems like the last person he'd confide in.
I didn't expect Ewan Mitchell to give Aemond so much humanity. He played up his neurotic side and his lasting youtful trauma so well I almost felt bad when Aemond lost control of Vhagar. Like Alicent, it is now too late for the prince to escape from a downward spiral of hatred that came to be even before his birth, but he is self-aware enough to realize nothing good will come of it (something I expect his brother to lack).
Also, he realised that Luke is [likely] in nanna's belly underneath him. Dreadful. He may confess to Alys unless she doesn't show up until s3. Also, him screaming at Luke in Valyrian may have enraged nanna even more - unclear how much dragons understand and comprehend beyond standard Valyrian commands (one of my biggest criticisms of both book and show = not enough dragon training details), but she certainly didn't react much to common tongue's 'no no no no' 😢 And I suppose Aemond's betrothal to Baratheon's daughter is off now? Always thought that sending Luke down there was dangerous, Rhaenyra should have sent Rhaenys although that may led to same outcome cause Aemond was out for blood! Haha and his heel turn in Storm's end with thunder clashing was fan service 100% = I have been serviced indeed 😍⚡
Probably Helana who will comfort him. That would make him extra angry at blood and cheese
As soon as I saw Aemond’s face after nana friggin ATE Luce; I was just like, “WELLP! THERE GOES ALLICANT’S NAILS FOR ABOUT A YEAR! 🤦🏼♀️👌🏼”
😂
😁😄🤣
🤣🤣🤣
*Season 2*
Alicent: So? Are you going to tell us how it went in Storms End?
Aemond: Not unless everyone gets real cool about a bunch of stuff real quickly
Mommy I captured Luce a prisoner!!!!
Where is he, Aemond?
In Vhagar’s belly!
😂
Nana Vhagar showing these kids what war is. War isn't a tourney. No fight is ever truly fair. Someone always has an advantage.
Rest in pieces, Arrax
From the moment Lucerys lands in Storm’s End and sees Vhagar’s shadow until his untimely demise, the whole sequence reminded me of playing that Slenderman game. Being hyper-aware of impending danger, constantly looking back while desperately trying to complete your task as soon as possible. Such a well-done thrill ride. RIP baby Luke 💔

From that moment on, we were all in a horror movie lol
Did anyone else notice “Blood of My Blood” being played when the 3 dragons leave Dragonstone? Yeah, it made me tear up a bit.
tim saying that the lead up to the vhagar/arrax chase scene was like a horror movie is absolutely right!! my heart was pounding the entire time, from when luke left dragonstone up until he died. that scene is going to stay with me for a LONG time...
Nanny Vhagar said, "He can keep his eye."
The Gods have spoken! You should really do an Aemon One-Eye breakdown. Even though I’m Team Black. The show runners ABSOLUTELY succeeded in making me feel for some of these characters that I wasn’t fond with from the Green Side. I am positively in love with this version of Aemon. Boy, when he took that eye patch off, he looked Metal as fuuuccck. He is such a cool character.
Nope. He needs to die slowly.
That turn around face shot was def the change from "hesitant" Rhanerya to "Full Blown War" Rhanerya..
One of many great cinematography moments in the series so far, I loved how it called back to the day Rhaenyra was named heir.
@@HomoChomsky i caught that as well. It's def the "death" of the 'innocent' Rhanerya.. She will be much more brutal going forward.
Finally the Celtigars got some love. My boy Bartimos is rocking the black council.
Daemon singing to Vermithor could be a spell he has learned in his reading. It would be fun if Daemon comments on it to his daughters in future episodes.
Thank you David for not calling Luke's death, an "accident".
"An eye for an eye, a son for a son, Lucerys will be avenged"
🩸and 🧀
If anything, I think Aemon killing Luke on accident makes him more of a villain. Like, really, Aemond? How did you think that was going to go other than Vhagar eating Arrax? If he didn't see that possibility, then he was lying to himself. I'm super interested to see where the show takes it from here
Aemond's just another dumb kid.
He thought claiming Vhagar meant he could handle her.
He overestimated himself.
He wanted revenge for the eye, not to kill Lucerys
It makes him more of an idiot. He is book-smart, but he is definitely NOT street-smart.
He is like
Also, your first kill will always shock you and you'll never forget it. As in cops shooting someone innocent or in another kind of gangster murdering someone for money. People realize their guilt, even if they're villains.
Seeing Jace landing at Lady Arryn’s to be greeted by the cousin of Rhea Royce who has a rightful grudge against Daemon could have been a good scene after losing Luc. It would make us scared for Jace until season 2.
Seeing Arrax basically running to a scared Lucerys as they were leaving was heartbreaking.
Dameons "prophecy is stupid" outburst had such "I don't even care that Stephanie didn't invite me to her party, I didn't want to go anyway * cries in the bathroom *" energy.
1:00:16 Lucerys didn't say dracarys.
Arrax got scared and spat fire as a defense response. He was agitated.
It was an attack from Arrax, not defence. Aemond had lost them, instead of running and hiding, Arrax turned not only back but also upwards and attacked from Aemond's blindside while Luce was screaming to try to get back control.
To be fair Daemon and Corlys are war veterans, Daemon in the books supports Rhaenyra's caution. He has fought a war with dragons and knows that it's not enough to win even if they have more dragons.
This is in support of Daemon fans haha. They made him look just impulsive.
As soon as I saw Jacerys and Lucarys’s clothes man… it broke my heart being a book reader. But well done showing the audience without telling them. Jace wore black because he’s going to bring the fire and Luke wore red because he will be the blood. I’m not super tuned into symbolism but this was so in the face I couldn’t help but notice.
I like how they went with the losing the control of the dragons. It added a layer of depth to what was going on behind the scenes, that Aemond wasn’t exactly blood thirsty, but super pissed and only wanted a literal eye for an eye. I hated Aemond in the books for this because I thought it was intentional, but this adds depth that I like and gives me more mixed emotions regarding Aemond. Lastly, YAS!! They gave us his sapphire eye and I’m so here for that.
Ohhhhh great catch!
I didn't even catch the symbolism of their clothes myself so will have to rewatch. Luke was so cute and innocent and I hated knowing he was going to die at Aemond and Vhagar's hands.
i loved Matt Smith being able to lean into his musical theatre chops. here to remind everyone that he was indeed the original *Patrick Bateman in the West End adaptation of "American Psycho".
Wow! I had no idea!
@@rosegoldluxx1645 our boy is a multi-faceted performer!
Aemond saying he did it on purpose: I think Helaena will know the truth without being told, and will tell Aemond she will end up paying the price for his deed.
Oh my God, yes 😳
The tourney and Rhaenys's commentary in episode 1 hits hard now
That was Rhaenyra's commentary
RHAENYS said that the men in the tourney had never seen true battle, they were too hyped up, and it was a wonder they hadn't started a war with their behaviour.
Now Aemond has done just that.
The only way I would have been ok with Jace being Criston's kid is if somewhere down the line Rhaenyra could have looked Criston in the eye and said, "he was yours" and watch that destroy him. But since these two aren't supposed to ever be in the same place again, I'm glad to have Jace be Harwin's. He was a much better man and far more worthy of being Jace's bio dad.
OMG same. Like if she would just lie about it, just to make him suffer, I'd be down to see that.
Yeah. All that blood is on Aemond's hands. 100% all the death and destruction that follows is his fault and at least that last look showed that weight settling on his shoulders
Alicent was considering being cool at dinner in episode 9, but she passed her hatred onto her children. Aemond might have let Luc live when he was chasing him, but he passed his hatred onto his dragon.
I have to say though, and I know you're team Smallfolk, David but after the Green Council and the Black Queen episodes I am fully on board team Black. Blood and Cheese be damned. The Greens took everything from Rhaenyra, her father, her crown, her daughter and now her son. If peace was ever an option it isn't anymore.
How exactly did the greens took away her daughter? The baby was a stillborn and there were development issues, hearing bad news doesn't qualify to give birth to a dragon baby....her father had leprocy.
@@leykimayri the stress of hearing of her fathers death and the coup led her body to react negatively and her labor to being well before term
@@evannesbitt7852 If the baby was malformed the miscarriage would have happened one way or another. It was not clear if the baby was malformed though, although it seemed huge for a premature baby, that was like 8 pounds baby which is a normal weight baby.
@@leykimayri the baby was born before its term was complete of course its going to be malformed
@@evannesbitt7852 How do you know it was complete? The foetus had a huge head while it was NOT full term, that big of a head that Rhaenyra although she’s already had 5 successful pregnancies already, could NOT give birth to it, the head was too large to go through her canal. She had to put her hand inside and actually squeeze the head in order to be able to pass her canal. It was a miscarriage that would have happened one way or another, even kill her if the foetus had gone even larger.
I loved how syrax was mirroring rhearya emotion in this episode
Yes, she also has good control of her dragon, she rides him a lot.
I refuse to watch any post episode recap vid without Girl Nettles in full, professional quality, super badass cosplay. She literally looks so f*cking cool this ep!
I did really want Syrax to gobble Otto on the bridge SO BAD. I often will say to friends that I haven’t read past the first book (yet) but I often feel like I have after listening to at least 50+ hours of your analysis of them 😅
The fan service for HoTD was so on point. That is how you do good television. Also if D&D didn’t look bad enough. This was the kind of Final Season we wanted for GoT. I’m so glad they got amazing writers for this show. I’m hooked and fucking pumped for Season 2 of HoTD.
Interesting I thought the writing was easily the weakest part of this season. I mean a lot of early GOT was much better written than this season. But a lot of that comes down to the type of story being adapted, I hope the writing in HOTD gets a lot better now that the next 3 + seasons will take place in a matter of less than 2 years. I think trying to cover almost 30 years of back story in one season was a mistake, but without it it's hard to tell this story. Also some of the changes from the book have been very bad, I get that the book is written by an unreliable narrator, but that doesn't mean the writers should use that as a crutch to change whatever they want.
Did anyone else think that Alicent sent that page from the book about Naimera not just because it was a story about retreat like Nettles said, which was a great point. But also because when Alicent and Rhaenyra were younger and studying that book, their side conversation was about how Rhaenyra didn't want the thrown. Alicent was bringing up Aemma's impending child as a threat to Rhaenyra's claim. But Rhaenyra says she didn't mind she just wanted to travel with Alicent, ride her dragon, and eat cake. (she never jokes about cake)....
Was Alicent reminding her she didn't really want this initially and that she could just be the princess (travel, ride her dragon, and eat cake)?
What a sad episode. Firstly Rhaenyra lost her baby and then Luke was killed because Aemond lost control of his dragon .
The look on Aemonds face was pure “ what the hell have I just done “
Overall non-book readers have enjoyed this season much more than the fault-finding book nerds. This has been a stellar first season.
Yeah it sucks that some people can’t let the show be the show and evaluate based on that. I really really enjoyed the show and honestly to filter everything through the lens of “does this validate my F&B opinions” is egocentric and delusional
The women wanting to prevent the war and find peaceful solutions and ending up not being able to, and the dissolution of Rhaenyra and Alicent’s friendship, has a lot to do with themes of patriarchy and how you navigate that as a woman. It can twist you and warp you until you don’t recognize yourself anymore, whether you do what you’re told like Alicent does or if squirm and fight under it like Rhaenyra . They are set in paths they might otherwise have rather avoided. They loved each other in the beginning whether it was friendship or romantic their friendship at the start was very feminine and untouched by outside influences of men. This is a very female perspective and I feel like the show presented things that I could highly relate to and feel. It’s even more interesting that the male show runners seem to get this and aren’t afraid to go there with this instead of doing a male perspective on female characters.
Great comments Sarah thank you :)
I was reading about septon baarths book on “wyverns, dragons, and wyrms” he was so interested in dragons after aerea’s death. This priceless book got burned by baelor.. would’ve loved more samples from it. And Daenerys could’ve definitely used it. He probably got to the bottom of the gene mutation it probably took to create/bond with dragons.
I think I found the answer of why they removed scenes of Daemon coming accross sympathetic:
I just watched a little video "House of the Dragon Writers are Confused Why People Love Daemon So Much", which basically does what the title says.
The showrunners probably thought itd be better to show his bad sides more pronouncedly, as people are falling for him already anyway
King said I was crazy to build a castle on a peninsula in the storm lands! But I built it all the same!…. A storm blew it over…. But then I built a second one!
we finally got a reference to the Cletigars! blink and you'll miss it, they're mentioned as one of the houses confirmed for the Blacks
Villain of the week, definitely Borros Baratheon. The moment oaths become negotiable after they have been agreed upon, is the moment the medieval-type order breaks down. It's like the rule of law in modern society. As soon as someone thinks they are above the law, the whole system is threatened with collapse.
I agree that the Inside the Episode videos are sometimes a bit heavy-handed and weird about the gender stuff, but mostly it makes me wonder who exactly edits those videos. I'm not 100% sure how it works but I think they are made by a separate marketing team, not the showrunners. Basically I wonder how much of those interviews is cut in order to market the episodes in certain ways.
Because what I think the showrunners are trying to say is not that Alicent and Rhaenyra don't want to start a war because as women they are inherently more serene or better than the men around them, I think they probably have a much more nuanced take about how society and the people in power (who are mostly men) have been trying to tear these two women apart from each other and pit them against each other against their will since they were young girls. That's very obviously what is onscreen, but it is not what we get in the post-episode videos' snippets of interviews.
I agree. They're much better at showing than telling on this show. No one should go in thinking that ANY of these women arent fully capable of starting a war - it's that they have real motivations and personal biases just like everyone else
That's why I don't watch Inside the Episode.. they make me question my understanding of the episode and characters
Otto and Alicent: What were you thinking?
Aemond: You know what? I totally meant to kill him. I never lost control. Not even a little, no sir.
I liked that this accident taught Aemond a lesson. I feel like he didn't really respect Vhagar in the way that, for example, Daemon respects everything to do with dragons. And Vhagar probably felt that she was being used by this kid simply as a weapon. At the end when she growled I think we all know what she was saying 😂 And he looked like, in addition to realizing he just officially started a war, also wanted his feet back on solid ground.
Top notch writing, no complaints this episode👌
In a certain battle that comes later in the dance there is a certain commander who shouts to his men, “Kill the rider and the dragon will depart!” But after watching this episode I’m not so sure if that is actually how it would go. If anything the dragon would just be more angry.
If Jon Snow would’ve been anyone else Drogon would’ve killed him!
I liked that Blackwood vs Bracken callback at Storm's End with the craven, sword, and dagger moment.
powerful cast,Emma Darcy deserves an Emmy for last night performance
man i only listened to the audio portion of this show and never realized there was a beautiful black queen on here
considering the age/experience/size of vhagar, I thought aemond showed an incredible amount of control right up until arrax got her with his flame. she basically did a "oh no you didn't" about face and from then on it was all nanny vhagar...
The baby was gray and definitely had scales...and the lumps on her head very much could've resembled horns protruding through the skin. No claws or tail, but there was definitely more wrong than just prematurity!
I'm all for being true to the lore but there are some that are treating Fire and Blood as if it's canon, and we all know it's not a reliable account. What I like though, as someone who read the book, is that they can still throw surprises at us that fit within the overall story. Aemond is still responsible for the death of Lucerys. It's just not exactly the way we were led to believe from the Maester's account. And overall I think it gives the story depth, and makes it even more tragic. I do share some of the concerns you and your guests discussed about their handling Daemon, particularly when you read what some of the writers are saying.
First found your channel when you reacted to the premiere. A lot of people that covered Game of Thrones have had their channels become generic, dull and geared more toward monetization. But channels like you and Gray Area keep it interesting and fun. Have really enjoyed the discussion here and look forward to it in between seasons!
I think Aemond will own Luke's death. It'd ao cool tho if we get a scene of him confessing to one of the dragon keepers about how Vhagar disobeyed him and he breaks down and cries, and the dragon keeper would tell him that dragons aren't slaves and they feel your emotions and act upon them, then he tells the dragon keeper to speak of it with no one or he'll make nanny eat him.
That would be an important scene.
Completely agree with Tim regarding Daemon 🌘 And that was a great point from Nettles about Nymeria and her ships! I like Alicent, but that's some pretty smooth manipulation, regardless of her feelings for Rhaenyra. Nice
Leaked ending of A Dream of Spring (probably):
"One time she told me the sky is blue because we live inside the eye of a blue-eyed giant named 'Macumber'."- Robb Stark, talking about Old Nan scary stories.
It's ridiculous that people just HAVE to complain about something. I'm loving the show, the changes, and the ride we're being taken on.
The changes make ALL characters weak and inconsistent... its basically a poorly written fanfic
@@0912sooli I disagree… it’s not over yet, even if it was… they are ALL still boss character in my opinion.
@@UniquelyStellar Im sorry but in my opinion the quality already gone downhill. At least cool characters like Aemond and Daemon, Corlys are still there...though they still manage to ruin them

What's the ever so pious Cole gonna make of his golden boy having become a kinslayer?
It was horrifying. I really felt bad for Luke and Arrax but at least it was really bloody quick. I doubt either suffered much. At least in my mind, they didn’t. Yes I know it’s not real but I really love the CGI dragons.
Will you be doing an in-depth deeper level solo analysis on this episode please David 🙏🏻
Yeah he might die Very very slowly
Thanks!
Says a lot about the quality of the cgi that I watched this a few days ago and I'm still in my feelings about how terrified poor arrax was and the image of his wings falling to the ground. They really managed to brilliantly convey the personality and emotions of the dragons in hotd.
Good point on the page from the book, Nettles! It seems to me like maybe it's a coded warning from Alicent: "We're officially offering you these terms, but don't trust my dad and my kid. Run." Sad thing is, if Luc hadn't died there was a world in which Team Black could have said screw Westeros and taken their people and dragons to Pentos and lived in peace like kings.
Hi guys, what a great last episode in S1.
Catching up from europe 🙂and I will listen to your stream on my long walk today.
I really, really loved the scenes with Arrax and Luke - I had to cry for a moment, because their connection was so interesting to watch, maybe because they are both young.
Arrax reminded me of my dog (18 month australian cattle dog). He is not big and kind of afraid of an older big male german shepard, who is not mean, it is just the presence and he has the advantage that I'm not afraid. It shows how special it must be to handle a dragon. You are totally right, they should wear more gear on dragonback all the things we bring with us just walking the dog in bad weather 😎
“YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH BADGES TO RIDE ME” Tim had me dying with that comment!!!😂
Grandma Vhagar was not having it after young Arrax spat fire at her.
I’m a Daemon fan, and I agree with Tim about what he said. But I’m going to try and be fair, so here’s my take. I apologise in advance for the length.
Matt said in a recent interview that Daemon would fall on his sword for Vicerys and Rhaenerya. So perhaps he doesn’t know about the final edits.
I disagree with Girl Nettles. He does love her. Toxic love? Yes. Both Emma and Matt has said as much.
I think it is within Daemon’s character to choke her. But I think it would on the extreme side of his actions in regards to their relationship. And that’s probably the most extreme day the two are going to have together. I am not excusing it, I am giving reasons. I’m not under the impression they’re going to make Rhae and Daemon a loving couple Season 2. I’ve read the book.
They may be just cutting these scenes for time. I know they’d focusing on the two women, but Matt is one of their biggest stars, if not the biggest. As far back as the 2nd episode, I didn’t understand why an episode called the Rogue Prince would result in so little screen time for Daemon. I didn’t dwell on it but them cutting so many scenes of George’s fav Targaryen, their biggest star, and the one who lights up the screen whenever he’s on is baffling to me.
Same same.
More screen time for Daemon.
I look forward to these break downs just as much as the actual episodes. Always such great insights and just such great content. Thanks David.
This was such a great stream. 😌
❤🔥always fun to watch you guys
Yet another great stream! I love how Syrax was feeling Raeneyra's pain from her birth
LoVE your vids and thank you for introducing nettles!!! Love her!!!
Happy First Season 🎉 love seeing GirlNettles
i’m so excited for all of the analysis of this show that will be coming out soon
Ahh! also loved that they raised the lighting on this episode! Didnt have to adjust my brightness for once!
Absolutely
Daenerys and her 3 dragons operate like a pack. She commands Drogon, Drogon commands the other 2. With Alicent and Rhaenyra we are seeing Viserys’s influence. I agree with Tim about Daemon. Thank you Girl Nettles for pointing out the strategic retreat with the ripped page. Emma needs an Emmy for the birthing scene in ep 10. Ser Erryk proved Daemon wrong about what inspires loyalty. It was very risky for him to abscond with Viserys’s crown. Ser Erryk is my pick for hero of this episode. His bravery and loyalty inspired Rhaenyra and she needed that.
Makes me appreciate Daenerys even more considering she had 3 dragons, no dragon handlers/trainers and no gear.
David thank you for all the streams very entertaining and very knowledgeable I hope you continue to do some further breakdowns till then, Rock on
Aemond is totally responsible for Luke and Arrax’s death. I don’t blame Nanny Vhagar at all. She took her emotions from that one eyed fool Aemond. R.I.P. Luke and Arrax 😢
👁👄💎 “LORD STRONG”
Dave, I'm really thinking Visenyas head had dragon scales onnit.
Take another look
Another observation. During the Dance, all of the dragons are locked up in the dragon pit. The young Targaryens have scheduled time to train with them. Whereas Dany lived with her dragons every day, feeding them, talking to them etc. Their bond with her grew organically. So by the time the event occurs in the Daznak pit, Drogon is more intune with Daenerys. Otherwise Dany and Drogon at Daznak would have turned out like Vhagar\Aemond and Araxx\Lucerys. And yes, I caught the symbolism that Lucerys flew to high (above the storm) when he might have gotten away if he kept speeding straight ahead. I think the showrunners just wanted us to see the gore though.
glad to see the crew back! you shoulda done a live stream on leak night LOL
Man, HotD has turned into the best show since season 6 of GoT.
>season 6
what did hotd do to you, why insult it like that.
It would be interesting if Aegon's dream of Ice and Fire was lost but somehow, the Starks were also hinted to this if/when they eventually meet the Black Queen, which is perhaps why the emphasis on "Winter is Coming" is seemingly more heavier with meaning.
I feel like prophecy in the show is dangerous in the same way "legacy" is. It affects the way the characters think, often to their detriment, because they give up agency in service to it.
@Grey Waste Tim on Daemon... I agree 100%!! Good shit
My two friends who have not read the books LOVE Aemond as a villain. I think Rhaenys is going to end up as a fan favorite as well once she gets more screen time like this episode.
She was my favourite female character until she killed hundreds of small folks for no good reason.
You three really are the best trio to cover thrones!!! I love coming back every week, sad the season is over I hope you guys can get together to discuss things in the off season somehow!
„This is a jam. I remember this one from old Valyria“ 😂
I hear that "it wasnt my war to start" line. But She wouldn't have started a war. She would have ended it before it began. All the main players against rhenyra would have been dead. And thus insuring her granddaughter married the future king. All of tgr given explanations really dont hold up upon actual thought of the full context.
Not the mention the fact the greens had already kept her confined against her will and threatened to harm/kill her if she didnt claim support for aegon.
Streaming Triarchy making such good points about the imbalance in Daemon’s depiction leaching depth from the story. If they hadn’t escalated him to choking his still-recovering partner, they’d have such a richly detailed “blade of prophecy poisons last gifts of peace Viserys tries to pass his heirs,” as well as grief being both a wedge and a unifier. Watching Daemon hear Viserys never trusted him with one last piece of integral information stung almost as bad as never getting to watch Rhae hear he believed her the promised Prince for 2 hot seconds there. They almost had it.
Conversely, really stoked about Nettle's catch that Alicent's page message was a warning/"you should flee" as much as a "remember the good ol' days?" All the good Alicent-adjacent episode 1 callbacks this week--the reverse of her lineage ripping a "wing" off Rhae's lineage--also literally ripping off poor, bold Arrax's wing--like she broke the wing on the figurine, but after she gave him a new/repaired dragon. Then we'll have Aegon the Elder's eventual fate, the dragon(s) tumbling tail-over-head again and again before it hits the floor.
I felt like they amped Daemon up to 11 while simultaneously toning Rhaenyra down to like a 3. Just to put some tension in the episode. It kinda feels like the writers with the last two episodes have been afraid to make the women dangerous... I was fine with Alicent trying to end the war with no conflict, I thought it worked in episode nine. But having both Alicent and Rhaenyra trying to stop the war while the men around them push them into it is just so contrived.
Coming back a year later, I'm not entirely sure Daemon & Rhaenyra are entirely out of love, (I love my partner but I don't often love sharing a mattress to sleep--sleep quality is important for sanity) but Nettles' observations still stand--whatever's still good is getting rapidly swamped by the mounting *waves hand* everything, alas.
