Imagine if powerlifting were more "mainstream" there is no way we would be getting this information for free. You don't see Usain Bolt, Lebron James, or Derek Jeter (just examples, chill people) giving FREE instructional videos and putting them on youtube. It makes me appreciate the sport of powerlifting even more-I consider myself lucky.
In the same way Ed coan can teach you how to deadlift it doesn't mean your gonna dead 800 the big diff is awareness and how the game is read and jet we lbj watt and many others can't teach you how to process football especially with their skill set that is why a lot of good players fail at coaching their way is just so dominant
Ed pulling 625 for an easy double made my day. Hard to believe that he's already in his 50s seeing how strong he still is. Hands down, the greatest of all time.
You guys are all the best. We really appreciate your positive feedback and excitement. This is how a comment section should read. Thanks for being so supportive. Awesome shit coming up. You will love it. Working hard with Mark and Mike to fire you guys up and beef up your totals.
Chris Bell If you build it, they will come. I've learned more about improving my lifts in the last few months since subscribing to this channel than I had in 2 years of lifting. Simple advice that's easy to bring in to your own technique and training. Can't wait to see moar videos.
Ed makes that raw 625 look so effortless. Slow and controlled too. I love watching these Ed Coan deadlift videos before every deadlift session. I swear, it's as good as preworkout. Gets me pumped and motivated as fuck.
I just love the way Mr. Coan pulls slow, steady, almost gently. You could rip it off the floor, but to me his pull shows clean technique, pure control and absolute body/muscle awareness. Love it.
Bdoubletho even in that federation you need to lock out your knees and hips before you get a good lift. It passed cause of the weight and bullshit judges. Anyway, he is calling it an american deadlift record and if you are going to call anything a record, then you need to finish the lift.
It's a truly blessing to have these guys in our powerlifting community. Their determination and contribution to this community is astonishing and something that i cant thank enough. My heart beats so badly as I watch these warriors go all out to fight their battles with this heart beating Super Training exclusive music. 7:30 I don't even know how many times and years I have come back to watch this video. It's such an inspirational footage that always adds hellfire to my spirit and morale every time I watch it.
I love that he acknowledges that different body types have different abilities and weaknesses, and that everything isn't set in stone. so much great instruction and inspiration for everyone, of all body types.
After busting my knee in judo, I was depressed because competitions is something I really enjoy. Thank you Ed and the the team at supertraining. This video got me into powerlifting and Im hooked.
Strange coincidink but after the Spoto benchpress vids I hit a new bench PR, after seeing the Squat video a few days back I hit a Squat PR. Deadlift day on monday. I'm a walking ball of motivation for it now.
Great videos with Ed Coan, Mark. He really is a legend on all fronts, not just his lifts. His attitude towards lifting has helped me see through the clouds of contrasting advice in the lifting community and just focus on the basics and find what works for me. Some people over complicate lifting when there is no need. Thanks for the videos
Mark... you're not fat. If you're fat, I'm a cow. And it was awesome to see the clips at the end. George Leeman is an amazing athlete, as is Eddie Hall. Not detracting from the others by any means, but these two stick out to me the most.
I need more videos. I'm addicted to the info/humor between you and Mike. I wake up every morning and check your page like its the paper. You guys are my hero's.
Steven ray Ive been watching this video over and over again for more than 30 times in the last two years ! I learn something new every time I watch it! Two years of.learning and practice now I can say I know how to deadlift a little bit! I know Im doing something right because when I'm deadlifting at the gym, people come to ask me questions about how to deadlift and they also gives me compliments. It takes a lot of dedications, commitment to be a good deadlifter and I'm still nowhere near there yet but Im learning because I want to be better and stronger. A lot of people think deadlift is just bend over and pick up the weight and lift it up but it's far more complicated than that! I love deadlifts! I hope you get stronger and be a great deadlifter!
Ed Coan was very unusual. Most of the powerlifters from his era and earlier were either good at bench pressing and squatting (long torso and short legs), or they were good at conventional stance deadlifting (short torsos, long legs). The biggest mistake powerlifting ever made, and it made a bunch of them, was to allow the sumo wide stance "hands inside the knees" form. This effectively turned it into another expression of the same strength demonstrated by squatting. In the old days, you'd have some guy get ahead with the bench and squat . . . only to have another guy reel in a two lift total deficit with a big traditional deadlift. Gosh, it made for compelling competitions. With Coan, by the way, this wouldn't have made much of a difference as he seemed to be able to deadlift with either stance and hand grip. Nor would any imposed bench press width, pre- bench shirt, have made a difference, nor would any squat stance limits have made a difference if one were ever enacted. He would have dominated under any set of rules. There has ever been a powerlifter with greater levers across all three lifts. Brad
Okay, so I watched this vid about a week ago, I realized that I had been starting with my hips about 2 inches too low and my knees too much in front of the bar in the bottom, which has forced me to round my upper back more in order to get my shoulders over the bar instead of in front. I thought that I was just built to deadlift that way, since that's the position that I have felt the strongest in and allows me to get enough drive/speed off the floor. I took some notes from this vid, went in to the gym the next day and pulled a PR triple, and I did it for three sets in a row. My back didn't round a bit. Thank you master Coan

Wow, great segment! Coan's set-up at 4:48 is sooo solid - heels under outer hip area, feet pointed slightly outward, shins near vertical, hips raised to create tension between the upper hamstrings and lower glutes....priceless! I love your videos and have learned a ton studying the greats like Coan over the years. I finally got off my butt and published a book on powerbuilding earlier this year called IRON-FORTIFIED FOR LIFE - a lot of work but great fun, too. Thanks for all that you do for all of us that keep wanting to improve!
I have just realised that despite this being my fav chan on UA-cam, and I genuinely get excited (hey now) when you guys post videos. I'm from the UK ankle currently in Cyprus on holiday, and had to find some shade at the pool side to watch this - and yet I never like or share. I apologise!
any deadlift 300'lbs - 400lbs or over is very respectable for a "regular joe." These guys are gym rats, lifetime professionals, in the sport...they didn't start their careers or journey at 405lbs. I'm sure it took Ed years of hard and dedicated training to achieve those 800lbs numbers.
I love how you guys have fun and feel free to joke around while doing the video. It's like, we are serious in trying to teach you, but we can have fun too. Amazing content :)

Ed is soo much older than mike and mark but pulls 405 no belt double overhand like its nothing while mike and mark use belt and over under grip
