Special thanks to Vesa from Indonesia for guest reporting.
From time to time, we get criticized for making "easy money" off our volunteer reporters who "do all the hard work while we sit in our office doing nothing". While our volunteer reporters do a great job of getting people's answers, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes from selecting the right set of questions to editing and subtitling, which are all done at the headquarter. First and foremost, we care about storytelling and it takes a lot of work converting all the raw interview footage into one coherent story.
Second, most of our videos get demonetized by UA-cam due to the sensitive nature of the topics we deal with. This video got demonetized even before it went public. Does that stop us from making videos on relevant and important topics? No, it's important and necessary, now more than ever, that we try to understand others' views, especially of those from different cultures and backgrounds.
As a media startup, our vision is to bring you the most authentic perspectives on the latest news and cultural trends from Asia. We are not going to let a lack of resources and sponsorships stop us from executing that vision. All of our volunteer reporters will be taken care of one way or another in due course. We hope that the rest of you can join our grassroots movement to fundamentally transform news media. - Steve

Asian Boss Ey Boss, I rarely ever do this but I need to thank you for doing this work. I've shown some of your videos to my university advisor because the content is closely related to my field of study. I'm a criminal justice major focusing on sex crimes. The north Korea and Indian rape videos where very insightful of what they have to deal with on the other side of the planet and how similar it is to what we have to combat in the western world. She really enjoyed them and will likely be including them in her future lesson plans.
Keep fighting the good fight. You know your fans will have your back no matter the strife you must endure.

Terrorism is not Islam teaching. Islam doesn't teach killing innocents. In fact Islam is strict towards murderers. If a person accidentally killed another person, there's qishas punishment, means that person either be killed or pay large sum of money to the victim's family as a punishment. And Islam doesn't allow suicide. Suicide is a big sin in Islam.
ISIS doesn't obey Islam teaching. So rather than addresing it as a religious group, it's more proper to call it a group of people move with politic interest and borrowing God's name for their wrongdoings.

I wish people would separate the ideology from the people. The book is not deeply studied by most adherents. So, they don't realize how shocking the content is. The same is true of the bible. Besides, wars are never fully participated in by any supporting group. When a nation declares war, how many actually participate? Anyway, no one can be objective about their own religion, unless they start to have serious doubts and questions. Even then, initially it is very difficult to stop believing due to indoctrination, group pressure and subsequent feelings of guilt.

but in Indonesia, The Largest Muslim Population in one country in the world undoubtly where Indonesia itself is not a muslim country but 85 percent of them are muslim and the most number of muslims in the world live here, we still have other religions here in a big number too like christian, catholic, buddhist, hinduist, and confuciasist that live here happily and treated equally although there issues still of course but that’s only a small number of group. I mean if u want to blame don’t blame the religion because we muslim in Indonesia and also christian in Indonesia are just happy with each other. U want to judge someone? judge from where they come from. Don’t generalize muslim because we Indonesian muslim are the largest muslim people living on Earth not middle east. So blame the middle eastern because they have cruel identity start before muhammad even born. Muhammad spread islam so that the arabs are not like that. But turns out they’re still like that same like moses and the jewish. We are the one who should u judge not them we have the biggest number of muslims living here so judge us come here if u want to and see how friendly we are, even in Bali, they’re still maintaining their hindu religion and tradition and we love to be friends with them also other indonesian which is predominantly muslim and also in the east of indonesia, most of them are christian and we’re still okay with it we’re still friends and hang out together. U judge muslim like that because muslim coming to ur country are from countries that have a lot of conflicts and terror and they are not that civilized maybe. Come here u wouldn’t even think that we are muslim haha because we look a lot different than the middle eastern but we’re still muslim. Islam is just faith man the ones that describe a person is where they come from not what religion they believe. Even us Indonesian we really hate terrorist and we always send our troops inside or outside our country to stop terrorism. So u still think we are terrorist when we always send troops to stop those kind of dumb actions the terrorist do? They are just practically dumb and we’re not so stop generalizing u can judge muslim from ur country which comes from middle eastern country that is quite cruel but stop generalizing islam because we are muslim and we never do those kind of dumb things we even fight alongside with western and eastern people to stop terrorism

Definitely Isis is not aligned with most of muslim people in the world, as the big majority of them are normal people who want to enjoy their lives, have a job and take care of their families, as the majority of western and christian people.

I would have liked to have heard questions like, "What do you think about gay people?" "What do you think about feminism?" "What would you do if your child renounced islam and became an apostate?" "Do you want to live in a secular country?" I'm guessing that most of them would answer in reasonable ways, but a large minority would answer in ways that would not make an atheist liberal like me feel good.

L Galicki Band im indonesian and im muslim..Most Muslims don’t really care if you’re an atheist. They'll likely think you’re just uninformed and accept you for who you are. Some may even try to convert you in the most loving respectful way. More than likely if some Muslim finds out you're atheist, they might just see it as an opportunity to enlighten you.
Same question for you, what do atheists think about islam?

@@RogerRamos1993 Your view is dangerous and it's utter nonsense. only 2-3% of Islamic teachings prescribe violence. A muslim can have sufficient moral or spiritual guidance in Islam without including violence.
5 pillars of Islam and 6 articles of faith doesn't mention any violent acts.
This is some prescription for us to be a good muslim: salat (prayer), dhikr (rememberring god), zakat (alms), hajj (pilgrimage), shawm (fasting), sadaqoh (alms), free a slave, go to school, conduct mannerism etc.
These are obligatory: belive in god, obedience to parents, speak honestly etc.
These are forbidden: killing, adultery, dringking alcohol, using drugs and tobacco, lying, eating pork and dogs and other animal with claws and fangs, cheating, hating etc.
These are some inner quality we must have: faith, honesty, sincerity, humility, tolerance, etc.
It's a small presentage of Islam I mention here. I am personally not a 100% muslim not because I'm not terrorist. In fact the game is not to become 100% but to have your good deeds outweight you bad deeds the best you can in life.

hachi roku Nah. Most of their acts are contradictive to the Islam teachings. And by their acts i mean, rebelling and mocking the government, blocking the streets with groundless protests. All of these acts are considered extremist and are prohibited in Islam. They ignore the real teachings of Islam and embarassing us muslims by being ignorant on the streets and mass media, let alone represent muslim in interviews. However i do understand why you have such prejudice towards Islam because the Islam that the media potrays is FPI, but if you learn Islam from the authenticity you will never find any of the FPI acts was justified in Islam.

good job on making this vid. westerners need to see or even come visit how indonesians and malaysians muslims live together with chinese buddhists, chinese christians, indian hindus, indian muslims, natives of borneo, foreigners from various faiths, not just living but actually going to school together, work together in various fields, having multi cultured holidays etc. this two countries are what the westerners have been sleeping on regarding Islam as they only Muslims are Arabian middle-east who greeds on oil amongst themselves, and they also sleeping on Pakistan and India and Bangladesh which has large Muslim populations. geography and demographics is not something the common westerners good at especially Americans.

You know what would be interesting? If you ask these muslims the following:
Do they believe if homosexuality is a sin that is punishable by death.
Whether or not they would report a terror plot or a fellow muslim to the authorities if they know they are joining ISIS.
Whether or not death for apostates is acceptable.
Whether or not it is acceptable for a husband to beat their wife
Whether or not it is acceptable for a woman to inherit half of what a man inherits.
Whether or not they believe non-muslims should have to pay the jizya & be 2nd class citizens in Indonesia
& Whether or not they support worldwide sharia law

      1. no, Indonesian is already accustomed to having waria [men that behave and identified as a woman and liking man]. they don't care about your sexuality but the country marriage registration is handled by religion department, they don't think they need to meddle with people's intimate relationship and they can get married elsewhere, there's no tax break for a married couple either so they generally has no concern about the difference between gay and normal unmarried people, you can't even see the differences.
      2. no, many isis arrests happen because fellow Indonesian told authority that they don't mingle and insist on their own way in performing pray, we did a lot of arrests but ofc none get translated,
      3. no, your religion is mine and mine is mine but the one who judge is not us but god in the after life, the story you heard is based on hadith for treason, people who sell their man, country and religion based on court, and court that based on sharia death law should be 100% sure, 99% can't do it so people already accepted that no man can do sharia court, therefore the death penalty should never happen but that's a reminder about hoe big a punishment is for treason,
      4. if a husband raise his arm above his shoulder, you can ask for a divorce so that's not acceptable
      5. The law of inheritance comes fair cause woman didn't have to divide everything she gets but man need to divide it to his wife and children and the law will abide if the father never said anything but they can get compromised depends on the before death and the children agreement.
      6. Jizya ix tax because they didn't pay zakat and it's lower than zakaat [what every capable muslim has to pay], it's not making you 2nd class citizen, actually jizya used for their own court in country where Islam law is implemented so they don't have to go to muslim court when their deeds and things [like sex before marriage or what they want to reform] that has nothing to do with muslim to be done, everyone pay tax and non-muslilm tax is called jizya which can be talked and didn't abide by all the muslilm tax law, in this matter, what muslim pay for their country is actually jizya by definition beause they still pay zakat that has nothing to do with their country, if non-muslim wants to be fair, we don't need to pay tax cause we have our own tax already but that's a ridicolous agreement.
6.shria is a way of life, 75 % of how you should pray, 20% is about what food is permissable, ofc they like the rule, the rule that would let them get a free time for pray and more holiday, what you thought of sharia law is punishment by court which is universally agreeable by muslim can't be done and you can use sharia as inspiration but you can't call it as sharia court, if it happens, it can't be implementd to non-muslim cause sharia only abide people who are in the religion and would be full of people who are stealing sandal at the mosque or get told that you can't eat during fasting.
that's an interesting question but also can be answer if you learn the religion with good mind

Alot of muslims try to show a one side of islam, I tell you Islam is the most rational religion, not just a religion that teach kindness but teach you how to be strong, to stand for your rights, that what makes our life balanced. Islam is a very inspirational religion. But people dont like it simply cuz it goes against their desires not cuz it itself is bad :) open your eyes and read by yourself.

If you study Islam and Imams, you will see a reason for it; it's not just the NY attack, it's the general culture of MEWahabism.
Walked into this with an open mind wanting to know what they think, not to be lectured the same speil we get all the time "It's just the media". "We are just like you" is not "this is what we believe". Educate about what they DO believe, not them apologizing. This is crap.
