A lot has changed in two years. Would be great to get an update since this video was made. In that time, U.S. and NATO troops have been talking about mobilizing for general war against Russia. There's also been many Western contractors fighting on the side of the Ukrainians and many Chinese PLA veterans have joined the Russian military. Then we have the U.S. State Dept. floating the idea of sending Ukraine weaponry that will be used to conduct more strikes into Russia. That will mean Russia may be forced to take out staging areas inside NATO countries.
Really disappointed with the quality of the translation. It's not just very loosely translated. Some sentences are barely related to the original or even mean the opposite. Here's a few examples of what the correct translation should be. Please judge for yourselves. 1:06 Personally, I think it might be too harsh to describe it as an "invasion". 4:08 dispatched their armed forces 4:23 They aimed their guns and missiles at Russia's door 4:53 (second sentence) if we can sign a treaty then we'll try not to resort to violence. 5:06-5:20 We shouldn't step in because Ukraine provoked the situation in the first place. Russia has been provoked, but it has not been invaded. 5:53 but we can urge them to stop or share our views. 6:15 We won't send weapons to the battlefield (meaning they won't contribute to the war) 8:19 blatantly (not blindly) 9:02 to tackle intense situations 12:20 I hope that the US can stop meddling in issues like this in the future so that there can be world peace. 15:18 The US benefits from our conflict. (Literally: The US is watching the tigers fight(观虎). The Chinese saying 坐山观虎斗 "sit on the mountain and watch the tigers fight" means to watch in safety whilst others fight then reap the rewards when both sides are exhausted) 16:45 no family can bear the pain of losing a loved one.
some of the mistranslations drastically change the meaning of what was spoken. 6:14 The translation was "We wont't abandon the situation either." when it should have been "We would not supply arms to either sides." 12:19 The translation was " I hope the US can stop this situation" when it should have been "I hope that the US would refrain from intervening in the war, so that the world in general would be more peaceful."
In fact, China's consultation and freedom of speech are much better than those in the West. The western media are full of lies! Why do European and Western media dare not prove that they report China? That's because China is more fair and free of speech than them. Americans call a picture of a Chinese school a Chinese concentration camp. It's ridiculous that the whole west believes it!! Because Americans can start a war with a bag of washing powder!!! So the overall IQ of westerners is really not high! It's easy to be brainwashed by the media!!

Thanks for the video! I wanted to point out some translations that could be better: 1:05 "I personally think the invasion is quite extreme" should be "I personally think the word 'invasion' is too extreme" 5:10 "We shouldn't step in because this is Ukraine's issue" should be "We shouldn't step in because Ukraine is the one who provoked Russia" 14:36 "First of all, the US has Taiwan's back..." should be "First of all, Taiwan's boss, the US, won't agree to it" edit: adding 6:15 "We won't abandon the situation either" should be "we also won't send weapons to (either Ukraine or Russia)" from user Rhapsody in comments

I totally condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But for those who have a bad view of the old man's opinion. First you have to remember what his generation went through, the sacrifices they had to make for the current generation. Before China became an economic superpower they were always bullied by the west, who helped their country a lot back then only Russia. He saw many things that the present generation does not see.
True, but I would add that with a higher expectation for economic abundance and choice, there also needs to be a higher expectation for an abundance of information he must gather for him to be informed with. Spouting Russian propaganda is kind of hard to excuse, like chiding your politically incorrect grandpa
Is China the only Country that have been bullied by West? The continent of Africa were bullied by the West and stripped of all their mineral resources in the past by the West till this present day but they aren’t even talking about it. Some Chinese have that colonial mindset when they travel to the continent of Africa

I love how Chinese view America as the ones provoking the situation. Countries like Ukraine, Kosovo, and Georgie have been begging Europe to join the EU and Nato. Its hilarious seeing the authoriatarian bootlickers try to blame other countries for fuckups. America is retarded, but at the very least had a coherent justification behind its invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. China seemed to want to invade Tibet, because apparently to free tibetan slaves, "Glorious mao zedong must arise from the heaven" and become the new tibetan slave masters. I used to be partial towards these types of politics, but after Ukraine, im in genuine disbeleif, over how China, a nation I thought atleast had good leaders now, would even support Russia after what they did. @@sowersass2 they are against it. So yeah it won’t be easy spotting overt words that reveal their thoughts on the invasion. You’ll have to interpret their words and position. They say they support territorial sovereignty, in which case it’s Russia violating that. They also see themselves in Ukraine’s position and the USA as Russia using a BS genocide (against Uyghurs or ethnic Russians) as the excuse to invade. In private I’ve heard people in CPC I know saying this invasion is a disaster (that being said the CPC is almost 100 million people, practically everyone is in or knows someone in the CPC so it’s not like it’s a monolith with one single opinion).

This is actually very eye opening for me. I never realized just how similar citizens of different countries are in terms of awareness and level-headedness. We shouldn’t have to pay for our governments’ petty disagreements.
Very true, we as citizens are seemingly inconsequential. Politicians in every nation do as little as possible to keep the majority of us just happy enough they maintain power to do their own bidding. The societies with the highest living standards and least likely to be in conflicts are those whom have more citizen's in agreement, where politicians are held accountable and freely elected from a larger demographic of policy.. That's not Russia, China or the U.S..
I've noticed this in Russia as well but support for Russia seems to be divided along generational lines. Younger people seem to be more likely to condemn the war while the older seems to support it.
Actually the trend is this: people young or old who are familiar with politics, would generally empathize with ordinary citizens of Ukraine, but more or less support (or understand) Russian actions _ this is very apparent outside of the west. While most of the people young or old who didn't familiar themselves with politics, generally, condemned Russian actions.

And people who are familiar with politics understand Russia's position and empathize? If that's what you're trying to say, I have to disagree. Within Russia, the people supporting the war are one's who rely on the state media. Even in this case, it's divided along generational lines as younger people are more likely to rely on media from the internet rather than the state. It's the same thing outside of Russia and the west. People who rely on media outside of the confines of the state, will always have a broader view. It is a rather complicated story. In current Chinese values, It is more important to have a united opinion (to survive) than have critical thinking(freedom). So if the Chinese government has a public and official opinion, most Chinese will unconsciously follow it without the need for propaganda, attack all who have an odd opinion, and blame them as betrayers. However, right now the government is as confused and nervous as the western world. People who do not accept their past and don’t respect heroes who gave their lives so that nowadays their grandchildren can live in peace can’t be called brothers.

Sounds like some think NATO is a threat to Russia, but Russia is not a threat to NATO. Who invaded an independent country in a land grab? NATO or Russia. Hint Russia invaded Ukraine

Because in the end, his soldiers must fulfill his promise and return to his country.

6:59 “China and Russia can be considered as allies in jointly confronting the United States…so-called allies; at least they have a common so-called enemy.” His using “so-called” made it clear that the relationship with Russia in fact is not an official alliance and the US is not officially an enemy. When omitting “so-called”, the translation missed what he said.
Asian Boss is no different from any other media and always has its bias. It’s not the first time they have this “mistranslation” issue and won’t be the last time. Even if they somehow fix this, they can always selectively present the content they want the audience to perceive through all kinds of methods. So, let it go …
I 100% agree! Glad to see others do too. I have been called all sorts of names online because I requested that people fixed their wording and it has been crazy.
Problem with translations is it's not as easy as word for word.
@Zefeng Chen We should hold the media, the press, etc., accountable and so we will NOT let it go
The level of understanding regarding the issue reveals the Chinese people are a testament that the Chinese government isn't bombarding their people with propaganda. They are a very thoughtful people. I would love to hear the answers of these same questions asked of US citizens.
it probably like this " i don't know isn't Russia an evil empire we should eliminate "
So it does not provide any strong opinion officially to the people, only vague, neutral even fence-sitting declarations. China needs Russia as an ally but does not want to be dragged into a war. And China also starts to recall the bad memory about Russia (Guess what country took most territory from China in history)

4:23 They aimed their guns and missiles at Russia's door
4:53 (second sentence) if we can sign a treaty then we'll try not to resort to violence.
5:06-5:20 We shouldn't step in because Ukraine provoked the situation in the first place. Russia has been provoked, but it has not been invaded.
5:53 but we can urge them to stop or share our views.
6:15 We won't send weapons to the battlefield (meaning they won't contribute to the war)
8:19 blatantly (not blindly)
9:02 to tackle intense situations
12:20 I hope that the US can stop meddling in issues like this in the future so that there can be world peace.
15:18 The US benefits from our conflict. (Literally: The US is watching the tigers fight(观虎). The Chinese saying 坐山观虎斗 "sit on the mountain and watch the tigers fight" means to watch in safety whilst others fight then reap the rewards when both sides are exhausted)

I remember not long ago many Chinese were upset when Russia celebrated the anniversary of Vladivostok. There is still some tension there looming below the surface.

Seeing these street interviews with normal young and old people you come to understand that China is a wise and understandable nation.
Sounds like some think NATO is a threat to Russia, but Russia is not a threat to NATO. Who invaded an independent country in a land grab? NATO or Russia. Hint Russia invaded Ukraine
China have similar plans for their neighbours so no wonder they don't see any issue with one country invading and occupying another.
I love the well thought out answers from the Chinese. Keep up the good work.
4:25 the translation is in sufficient. What the man said is not merely "They're knocking on Russia's door". He actualy said "guns and missiles are pointing at Russia"
@Bringette Awnn He means Russia is defending itself from NATO expending to Ukraine, and then missiles are pointing at Russia, and then there will be no buffer area between NATO and Russia
knocking on Russia’s door is an idiom, when something/someone is getting too close. Chinese has many idioms, same as English.
Ooh thanks for the correction!
@Bringette Awnn simpler terms. Putin no likey NATO expand. Ukraine wants to join NATO.

I don´t mean to be rude, but you really should re-upload this video with correct translations. This video in its form right now is very misleading to anyone not reading the pinned comment and I do not think spreading misinformation is something you advocate on your channel either.

@@shrexbomb I agree. De-Nazification of Ukraine, withdrawal of Russian troops, everything to peace, because Putin's condition is to demand that Ukraine be de-Nazified. It was clear that Ukraine had the worst luck this time, but it was the Nazi militias in Ukraine that left the worst impression on me, not Russia.
The Chinese people have a lot of common sense and they speak far more intellectually about this issue than we do in the US. Of course, we want Ukraine to maintain its defense and sovereignty over Russia but it sure seems like most Chinese people feel the same way.
Thanks for the research and interviews. Good to hear ordinary Chinese sharing their thoughts on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The translation here is wrong, he said he doesn't think China will
openly support Russia‘s attack. But China and Russia have a close relationship better than China and the West.
ive worked with quite a few chinese people (based in shenzhen)- they are a lovely people who are also misunderstood by the west... thank you for providing this insight... i hope more people get to see this video and stop fostering all the hatred we have in the world between these nations ...like the dude in the black jacket said... ordinary people are innocent in all of this ...that extends to every side and the overwhelming majority of humans on planet earth... love to you all!

i can't say much about how representative these interviews were in terms of the chinese population. But these people are seemingly well informed, very well educated and less manipulated by media propaganda of any colour than what i expect to hear from people in Europe. This alone is reason to be optimistic for Chinas future.
« China always wants peace », « Russia is just defending itself » … I don’t know that seems pretty much like your average propaganda

Right away there's a HUGE mistake in translation. @01:06 she said "我觉得用入侵这个词可能有点。。太严重了" which means "I think to use the word 'invasion' (to describe what happened) is a little ... too severe".
Meaning she didn't think Russia "invaded" Ukraine, but probably just a "special military operation" as claimed by Putin.
Definitely not "I think the invasion is quite extreme".
I think the word "invasion" is quite extreme, may better in this way.
The word invasion, in our dictionary, mostly mean the occupation of land. Since Putin said that he will not occupy Ukraine, but only wanted to maintain peace and target the Ukrainian government, we don't completely agree that this is an invasion. Because in the end, his soldiers must fulfill his promise and return to his country.
However, due to the resistance of the Ukrainian President, some of us believe that Putin will not retreat after the victory, because the cost of this battle is too huge, and it is not cost-effective for Russia to retreat with nothing.
@@titan480 president Putin also said he won't attack Ukraine. He said he won't be a president for the third time. He sais he'll make 20 million of working places for Russians in three years. In 2014 he said there was no Russian forces in Crimea and in 2015 he said the opposite. He said he won't increase a pension age as long as he's a president. He said he'd never change a constitution. Do I even have to continue? I believe he never said one thing. He never said that you're smarter than a rock.
@@AlexA-eg7gz What you are talking about is Russia's internal affairs, why should we interfere in Russia's internal affairs like you? @@AlexA-eg7gz You are so righteous, why don't you go to war for Ukraine? Ukraine is so pitiful, why didn't its allies fight for him? Because everyone knows that the war will damages themselves, and no one dares to despise the war. The so-called clean officials are difficult to judge in families matter, we insist on our own position, what is the problem?
I think that the Russian and Chinese alliance makes sense. It's not like hegemony ever works, certainly not in politics or international politics.
It does not. It is important for China to have a peaceful relation to Russia, but an alliance with them will held back China. Cultivate the relation to the US is what can help China. The relation is bad now but it can be improved.

@@Orwellian-Purple-Grapes-1984 "Orwellian" is the right descriptor for you where you engage in "Newspeak."The USA is not "belligerent" at all. On the contrary, US administrations from Clinton to Obama and Biden have all been very naive when it comes to Ruzzia's imperialistic plans.
Was it the US that seized the Crimean Parliament and forced them, at gun point, to "vote" to return to Ruzzia? Was it the US that sent disguised soldiers into Donbas to create a fake civil war? Did the US pour thousands of troops into Russia from Ukraine or anywhere else?

Thanks to all who helped out with the more "accurate" translations. One or two words added or omitted makes a huge differences in English, along with the punctuation.
