  • At least 20 people were confirmed dead in the recent deadly bombing of a cathedral, for which the Islamic State or ISIS claimed responsibility. Shortly after that, a grenade was thrown at a mosque on a neighboring island, killing 2 people and injuring 4 others. Given all of these incidents, we were curious as to what Muslims think about those and what it’s like to live as a Muslim minority in a predominantly Catholic-majority nation.

Most Muslim in the Philippines don't really have any idea what they are saying. It's in there Quran the killings the persecution of other religion. Just for example try to know who Aisha is one of there prophets wife married at 6 and consummated at 9 years old. I bet most of them don't know that or just accepts it as norm.

People need to realize that a majority of these incidents (regardless of ethnicity, nationality, religion, etc) for the most part it's just people that are extremists that have delusional thoughts and feelings of uncertainty in life. They often (from what I can tell) are not educated and jobless so they are very gullible to the influence of these individuals that say that these acts will benefit them somehow.
Honestly, I think people should just leave each other alone and learn to respect and appreciate each other. Regardless of any socio-economic ties, we're all humans in the end with different opinions and lives.

I am a Filipino living in Mindanao, where most Muslims live. In my observation, Muslims are not as discriminated as the people in this video think. Most, if not all, Catholic universities accept them and offer them the same education other religions enjoy, and they are free to wear their traditional attire wherever they want. During their prayer times, we can hear their "sung prayers" (sorry I don't know what to call that) being played loudly enough for a big portion of the town to hear. They can also engage in any business they want. They are not out-casted, but they are not special either. The Constitution guarantees all freedom and rights due to every Filipino citizen regardless of religion. I think the problem with them is the victim mindset, and the fact that they are somehow in denial of how dangerous religious texts that are obscured in the holy books. I know many Muslims who are just chill about the stereotypes and just live well so to avoid petty arguments with other faiths.

It makes sence they aren't discriminated as much as a muslim that lives in a city with majority Christians. So their stories of discrimination aren't likely to be invalid. Yesterday was very painful experience for me and I had to keep my breathing normal, because we maranao usually use the jeep leading to our terminal and instead of shouting "terminal" the conductor shouts "criminal" and they'd laugh when my fellow maranaos turns and rides the jeep. As an Indonesian, I believe Philliphines has simillar culture with Indonesia.
When I went to Philliphines, I did not get that much culture shock since the condition is similar with Indonesia, at least in Manila.
As I live as a minority in a largest Muslim country in the world, I believe the problem is in the teaching of the religion.
Al Quran as well as Holy Bible have dark parts when you read it, you will get the negative meaning.
I believe in one of the books (either Hadis or Al Quran) there are part to "do anything necessary to spread Islam" and it has been abused as a basis by terrorist.
And for Christian: Do not forget that Crusade War.
But Catholic is better at managing the aftermath since it is centralized by a Pope as the head, if Pope says "No", it means Catholic will say "No".
The other side, Islam has lots of fraction, majority are Suni and Syah.
It seems like that both of them are destinied to against each other no matter what, example? Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Basicly all the wars in Middle East happened because of that.
As a non Muslim, I can't represent Muslim, but I can state my Opinion:
"Some people take the extreme case since Muhammad is a War General. Some people want to be like their idols: Do War."

what's the real cause daw?. i think they need to read and review their quran as a whole (if they read it). I've been in Marawi before and they look at me with contempt and felt not welcomed (so to the girl who transferred her studies from manila to Mindanao i think the feeling is mutual).
these people will never or let's say CAN NEVER SEPARATE their lives from their religion which is islam even if it means death. like for example, if you'll try to burn their holy book quran in front of them then you'll see their true colors. but if you'll do it with Christians holy bible then they'll just like ok'.
and also their minds are extremely so closed that if these muslims will try to convert to another religion they will surely be persecuted or abandoned by their relatives and friends or much worse they will be killed by the hands of their own family for renouncing their former religion coz' it brought shame to their clan and their pride is at stake (really they're so prideful) that's all. it's not just my opinion or experience but a mere facts about them.

I've lived for 25 years plus in Singapore and travelled extensively in Indonesia and Malaysia. That means Im so used to Muslims as being an integral part of society. Likewise when I came back here in the Philippines, going to baratilyo malls just like in Greenhills, Farmers and Sta Lucia where you see a large portion of Muslim traders, I really see no difference to what I've experienced relating with them in other regional countries. Have very fond memories of Muslim Singaporeans, Malaysians and Indonesians and have eaten with them their local food Nasi Padang especially beef rendang, tahu telor, Sayur lodeh, goreng pisang etc... Here in the Philippines because the Muslims are a minority most Christians have not yet assimilated or are familiar with their ways and culture. But 25 years living with them all I can say I find no difference in anything between us as long as you do not discuss religion.

Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei are rather peaceful when it comes to Muslims compared to many other Islamic countries :v
In fact I think the most turbulent place having to do with Islam Southeast Asia is probably in Southern Philippines, I feel this might have something to do with lumping Muslims with Catholicism, if not Catholicism (or Catholic values) being imposed on the Muslims. Admittedly, those two are assumptions however so there's a good chance i could be wrong.

I'm a Filipino and I live in Visayas. I am a Christian. I just want to clarify that not all non-Muslims Filipinos are discriminating Filipino Muslims. We are all equal and we accept our differences. The Philippines is so diverse in culture, traditions, languages, and religion. And almost all of the Filipino people know this and is aware of this fact. I remember that when I was in elementary and high school, in our subject HEKASI, History, and Araling Panlipunan... the different religions in the world are taught in school to educate the people about the difference of each religion to make us all aware of it. Because if we are aware, well-informed, and educated about it, we will learn to accept and respect it. But, there are also some Filipinos who haven't studied it, that they have only heard about it from other people or from watching television shows, and yet they still respect it because they know that each of everyone is different.
Those non-muslims Filipinos who says, post, or comments in social medias like facebook that muslims are connected to "terrorist" are mostly from ppl who arent well-informed or from ppl who believes in fake news. Some of them just post or comments bad things on facebook as a joke, for memes, or for fun, saying they are just "going with the flow or trend atm", without knowing that a lot of ppl might take their comments like "let's bomb them as well" seriously.
Prejudice doesnt only happen between non-muslims and muslims. And prejudice happens in every country. I have a friend who is from Malaysia and she is a muslim. And she told me that in Malaysia... some muslims are also discriminating non-muslims because of they way they dress and behave. I have a muslim friend here in the Philippines who told me that some Filipino Muslims do that too...
So, in conclusion... prejudice is present everywhere. It just depends on the person. We just have to make more awareness and make people well-informed. To prevent discrimination.
Let's all live in harmony! 💖

I'm from Marawi City and I can tell that the videos were taken from Marawi. Only few bloggers get the nerve to visit Marawi because of its terrorizing nature that media always says. We are also like any other cities. We dream for peace like any other human beings.

Well I’m catholic and traveled to Muslim Indonesia Malaysia Brunei and Buddhist Thailand Cambodia Myanmar. It’s not about religion but how you make people feel. If you respect their culture and traditions, they will invite you and celebrate with them too.. you can watch my videos on southeast Asian countries if you want. Why can’t we all just get along? Allah, Buddha God or the higher being in your language love us all equally. Yet we make it complicated 🤦‍♂️

Asian Boss have political funding, as many leftist liberals NGO's, their gains just cannot even pay for Steve and Kei work, even less paying their crew's jobs.

Staring or looking doesn't always mean it's negative like when I see people wearing niqab it's just interesting someone wearing one since I don't get to see one often just like how I don't often see nun and thier uniforms (I don't know what's it called).

Yeah me too. Sometimes I'm wondering what it feels like wearing their Muslim dresses in the middle of the day especially here in the Philippines we have a hot climate.
