    (no need to comment back) i lost it when you found that egg on the shore. Man trip you seem like one of those people who don't know how awesome they are.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      No need? There is always a need lol That was pretty crazy about the egg, I thought it was a fake one or something that looked like an egg. Never thought a real one would be laying right there....
      I appreciate that man, I'm totally just a normal guy who doesn't mind acting a little silly on camera and having fun... Nothing to it man. Thanks though!

    I love watching your videos. I got into kayak fishing last year and got me a Native Ultimate 12 after selling my jon boat. Disability made using the boat a little too much. I am a newbie but loving it. Thanks for the entertainment. You keep it real.

      Thanks Bruce! Glad you enjoy them! I'm really liking the Natives..... Really liking them.... I've got my eye on the Slayer Propel 13. They seem like really nice boats. How are you liking yours so far? Got to keep it real my man!

    Another fun adventure. Thanks for taking us along. I have that same grill. I love it, but it's it's not the easiest to clean. With the yoyo's, you can add leaders off the end of the string. I do that. But like you said, I use mine form trees. I have premade leaders that I clip on the end and toss out when I get to where I'm going. they work great for setting over night. You usually will wake up to fish for breakfast.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  7 років тому

      Thanks Joe!!! It's not sure easy, but I've never had an easy to clean grill I guess. I'm ready to get somewhere that I can better use the yoyos... I've got to step up my game and get a fishing yak soon.....

      Oh it's killer. I'm quickly falling it love with it. I was looking for a good solution to haul mine and found that company. I reached out to them, we worked out something and they sent me some racks. That was my first time using them and it's a pleasure now to load and unload the kayak.... • @flysubcompact
      @flysubcompact 8 років тому

      Yep. First was a sit in Ascend D10. Good stout, but short boat. It was my starter boat. My main use boat is a Santa Cruz Kayaks Raptor. Bought it for lake fishing. 13", internal storage, good seat. Most stable boat I've sat in that didn't weigh a ton. Easy for my old, fat self to reenter if I did fall out, too. My newest (just got yesterday and paddled today) is going to be my creek cruiser. It's a Perception Pescador Pro 12. Really liking it so far. None of these are as fast and payloady like that ocean rig you have, but I'm not a spring chicken, so deep water self rescue might be an issue for me in that race horse you have.

    Glad to see you fishing, Trip. A few suggestions. Academy makes a tape that can stick to your fishing to measure fish. Possibly upgrade to something like a Shimano Sahara spinning reel. If there is a chance you might release a fish, don't run the stringer through their gills. Soft spot behind the lip is better. Gills are very fragile and will bleed.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому +1

      Me too robert, it was good fun. I have some of those tape measure on a few rods, just not that one lol Thanks for the tip about the stringer, good one. I've been looking at some reels, there are quite a lot out there to choose from. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Trip, like many others here, you've inspired me to get out there and spend time doing what I love. I bought a Native FX15 tandem at the end of last year and haven't looked back... Sure, the price tag was more than most are willing to pay, but I couldn't be happier with it. After 6 years with my girl, we had never been camping together and the tandem kayak solved that perfectly. I bring this up because you mentioned getting a fishing kayak. Since you typically go solo, the FX12 might be better suited to your needs, and save you a couple hundred dollars (and weight going up those steep hills). Either way, the Native FX series are the Mac Daddy of kayaks - take a look at them. Keep doing what you do brother! See you on the water

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      That's awesome to hear KBanks! I've been looking really hard at the Natives... I like the Slayer Propel 13. I really like the FX models with their openess but I'm concerned about using it in the gulf and surf and it getting swamped. Plus I really like to swim so getting in and out in deep water may make the Slayer better suited for me.
      I really hope to get one soon, but I've got to come up with some more $$$ or either get in good with Native (it's so hard to contact them and get a response for my purposes.....)
      I'll keep the videos coming my man! Glad you are able to Get Out There and enjoy!

    • @kbanks1414
      @kbanks1414 8 років тому

      Yes, very true. The FX15 tandem is actually my first kayak so I have nothing to compare to, but I was thinking on our last trip it would be extremely difficult to take on some of your ocean adventures just because of the openness. I bought it mainly for inland waterway/river camping and fishing, and it’s perfect for that. For your purposes the Slayer may be better, although it does seem to have much less storage space if that is a concern. The other thing I’m loving about Native is the high/low seats… High for casting purposes and low for paddling. Being able to adjust your center of gravity is a huge plus. That and they make great lounge chairs once you get to camp, we just throw a giant wool army blanket down to keep the sand out. I look forward to seeing whatever you end up with man! Meant to say earlier, if you’re looking for future video ideas I’d love to see some fishing tips, specifically freshwater bass fishing.

    I just stumbled across this awesome channel! Love the Video. Nothing better than kayak fishing and camping all in one. You are very entertaining. Are you going to do more kayak fishing? I hope so. I would suggest a good fishing kayak like a Native Watercraft Propel. Although you did great with your long kayak! Lol. keep adventuring and and keep making vids. my friend!. God bless.

    As always, great video and inspiring trip. I recently bought those yo-yos also. definitely a time and place to use them, but in the right place, I think they'll work well. That island looked great! Look into paddling the Roanoke River in NC! Floating platforms to camp on. I'm hoping to plan a yakcampin trip there this year or next! Thanks again for the laughs and vids to get me excited every year to kayak!

    Dude that had to be one of my favorite videos to date. We have this event in Miami every April called "Baynanza" where hundreds of volunteers go to about 20 different parks and islands in and around Biscayne Bay to pick up trash. Two years ago our group collected about 12 large garbage bags full of trash from one of the barrier islands and after about 2.5 hours we'd only collected about 25% of the trash on the island. We even saw a bed mattress. People have no respect. Hint on the fishing equipment. Just get an Ugly stick spinning combo consisting of a medium 6" to 6'6" rod and 2500 spinning reel. These combos are the best for the cash and will not break!. Dick's sporting goods has them. Until next time.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      Thanks!!!!! I like the trash pickup idea, might have to think about something like that around here as well.
      I appreciate the fishing reel suggestion, I don't really want to spend $150-$250 on a rod and reel... I could see my breaking it or loosing it quick.
      Great comment, great suggestions!

    Great video, again, Trip. I can see right now I am going to get a grill like that. Just too handy and packable. Makes me grin seeing you land some Spots with my care package. Cool you ran into a sub, too. Maybe us subs will run into each other too.Also, if you like closed faced reels, the Zebco Z03 Omega is the same form factor as the old trusty 33, but is built like a tank. It has actual SS ball bearings, three pickups and brass gears. It'll cost you $70-80, but is the best bang for the buck in closed faces. Love mine.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      Thanks Fly, it's a great grill.... It made me grin to!!!! You're the bomb!!!!! It was very cool to run into him, hopefully it will happen more often and I'd love to run into you as well.
      Oh really? I like the Zebco. I think partly because everyone else uses the fancy reels and I feel like the underdog using the Zebco lol People always pull for the underdog right?

    • @flysubcompact
      @flysubcompact 8 років тому

      I grew up using Zebco reels. Later graduated to Daiwa closed face reels, but don't use them now (junk). I never could use baitcasters...spent too much time digging out birdnests. I like to carry a max of three kayak fishing. One close faced and two spinners. Mainly used this new Z03 Zebco. Stout reel on a $40 Ugly Stick.
