This channel has helped me through some tough times. Anytime I need to be centered I start watching this channel. I'm a native of Clevegas and love to see some familiar sights. John sets a good example as what a good Tennessee Christian friend is supposed to be. Thanks for the content.
This reminds me of canoeing with my wife for the first time in an aluminum canoe on the Delaware River . She sat in front and I told her her main job was to watch out for rocks .So we start off and in about a minute there's a CRUNCH and she says ," there's one " a few seconds later another CRUNCH and she says " there's another one ".. and that's how the whole trip went .
Wow, this brings back memories...a long time ago, when I was in the Air Force and stationed in OKC, my wife and I would go there and camp and fish. It's a neat place - a sort of mountain stream with cypress trees. Tick capital of the world. Sadly, my wife is a memory too - she died unexpectedly at 38, so this video is a bit bittersweet.
@@mrs.vasquezz thanks...from our human perspective, yes, too young. However, it's different from God's perspective. I never got angry with God over her death, although I still don't completely understand why she had to go so young. I consider myself lucky to have had 14 years with her; the people who really got shorted were my kids, all girls, who didn't have that female influence growing up - I was a poor substitute in that regard.
The Choctaw named that river... Two Choctaw hunters were in a Dugout canoe floating the river, when they hit the Rapids and the canoe turned over throwing the hunters in the water and one of the hunters broke his bow, that's why they call it broken bow. Not really, but it sounds good. LOL
Having spent the majority of my life in Oregon around whitewater rivers I have a healthy respect for them. There’s always a few lost to the river each year. I got hung up on a fallen tree on the Rogue River and went under it and luckily popped up on the other side. We lost a 16 year old great niece on the Umpqua and it’s a pretty gentle float. Everyone was dumped out of the raft they were in and she was caught in a strainer. Our river here in Montana is a series of reservoirs so mostly nice and easy. Also good to see that the Old Town is a pretty sturdy kayak. Looks like it was a really fun trip.
I can't believe you all stayed up and didn't lose any equipment. I would have never been able to keep my Jackson Bite right side up in those rapids, no way. Love the drone footage.
Definitely a fun OK fishing trip, enough rapids to keep you awake. Nice variety of fish. Cole and Jay get up close and personal with those snakes. You will never catch Justin from kayak catfish fishing with them. Great Video, thanks John.
The bubblegum swirl yum-dingers have definitely been a must, while bass fishing this year. They have caught me tons of fish from my home state of Florida, to Georgia, North Carolina, and West Virginia. Never bothered with that color until watching you. Thanks.
This video reminds me of the time my wife and I floated down the Ocmulgee. I was fishing for shoalies. We had a great, fun day until the last set of shoals. Those were pretty well brutal, and some land wonders saw us struggling and invited us to their bank. Good memory!
Received on March 1. Snowing very hard with wind. It is really a nice looing kayak. Wish this weather would come around to warmness so we can try it out.
I grew up fishing that stretch of Mt Fork River before the Dam was ever built, and lived at Eagletown only a few miles to the east, it was always good fishing, I have floated it also, a few spots can be a bit exciting! enjoyed the video! We camped there several times each summer.
Some fishing and some white water action. You ran into some rough rapids. Glad you wear your life jacket. You should carry a patch kit like flex seal for a gash.
A buddy and I are planning a big float on Lower Mountain Fork this spring! Native Okie here, if you ever need one to join out kayak fishing here in the Sooner state, John. Big fan of the channel!
You mentioned about the fish being fat & chunky. That's always a great sign, that that River is, with Minnows and Frogs, and whatnot, feeding the fish very well. That's great! Loved the Aerial footage that you shot. You have a lot of talent putting a video together. Of course, over the past several years, you've had plenty of practice, and plenty of time to hone your craft. Man! Those rapids would definitely give me pause, as to whether I'd try to find as safe of a passage as I could, or just stop right there, and just fish there. You're braver than I am! All in all, I'd have to say, That Brother John had a good day!
You are on the Mtn Fork River down below Broken Bow Lake. It is a great fishing lake, but I have never fished in the river there. However, I used live in Tulsa and every single year, I would take a weeks vacation and fish the Mtn Fork at Smithville, Oklahoma, about 40 miles north of Broken Bow and believe me, there are gobs of Smallmouth bass in the river up there. I used to go fish out of my inner tube, before there were kayaks and just catch the devil out of those small mouth.
I have a little farm about 45 mins east of Broken Bow. Love fishing there. There are a couple other rivers close by there where you can slay smallmouth but you need to use a float tube.
Wow some of those rapids were sketchy. I caught myself wincing whenever you hit a boulder.. Great river, good fishing with plenty of variety. Just awesome brother, way to salvage the trip. Well done Patrick and John. Blessings brother
Wow ! What an O.K. adventure. The smallmouth eluded you this trip, but plenty of Kentucky spotted bass. By the end of this video, I was so tired and my shoulders ached. I felt like I was in the boat with you. 😂 After the first whitewater, I knew it was going to be sketchy, so I began to pray for your safe passage . I just recently was able to find a link to order some of the YUM worms you are now famous for !!!!! Went out today for the first use of them, hooked it up wacky style and caught a largemouth in the first 20 minutes ! In my humble opinion, I think YUM lures should re-name the bubble gum swirl color as the JOHN D., CFA color worm !!! Your success with this color has convinced so many of us to try it. Great video, excellent drone footage, and good musical score.......... as usual ! Please always be safe! Randy B.
Man!!! I use to fish this river all the time when I was in high school! We would always flip on that last drop off. Caught some decent smallmouth out of there, but it's better above the lake.
What a great day Jon. Tons of species, current surprises, beautiful river, long trip, ect. I'd like to see ya return there. Great video. Also, awesome drone footage
You played that last Class 2 well..ported arond. That river situation is almost identical to the Coosa River below Jordan dam here in Alabama. Eight miles called Wetumpka. No trout or Smallies, but 3-5 lb Coosa Spots lay in there.
Great video. I kayak fish with my brother often in lakes. After watching this I will definitely be on the lookout for some rivers to fish in (maybe not with white water on the first go)!
What an epic river to fish and the drone shots were mesmerizing. Going to BPS tomorrow, hoping they have those Yum Dingers in stock. Then fishing somewhere completely new to me around their location on the Illinois River in Peoria, IL.
That was an awesome video I really liked it what a beautiful River I do a lot of fishing north of their my most fun place in the world would love to show you some Creeks there I love watching your videos what you do is what I try to do all the time keep it up God bless maybe we'll see each other sometime
@Creek Fishing Adventures If you ever get a chance to fish the Erie Canal in New York State, I will tell you that you will have an awesome time catching so so many variety of species of fish. However, I will also warn you of the drastically changing currents from one end to the other and everywhere in between the numerous locks. The Erie Canal is a long and insanely seasonal waterway that has great habitat that too often, succumbs to annual fish genocides and human pollution due to The waterway being levied, sometimes continuously and and empty through winter.
@@CreekFishingAdventures you can catch everything from red darters, creek chubs, gar, and massive goldfish to pike, brown and rainbow trout, and even walleye have been known to be in there. I’ve caught 40 + pound carp and have seen 50+ pounders. I have landed all of those but a brown trout in my 30 years fishing the Erie Canal. Near a town called Holley there is a possibility of landing landlocked salmon as they spawn in a creek that runs underneath the canal. Secrets 🤫 out. It’s not a secret.
Yeehaw!!! LOL Can’t believe you took on Mountain Fork in a kayak! Wish I had known you were in Oklahoma. Love your channel and your witness. All the best to you!
Another great video, thank you for taking me down the Ok. river with you! Some nice trout and bass. If it isn't to far for you, would love to invite you to come fish New River, here in WV. In the Hinton area and Sand Stone Falls area. It is some what like Ok. but much wider. Look Bluestone and Hinton along with Sand Stone Falls upon UA-cam. Believe me you will thank me a bushel, be a fishing trip of a life time! God Bless you! (Glen). WV.
Man that was kind of rough!! I wish you could have went to Lake Eucha where the water is calm and they have tons of big redear, and i think bass also not sure...enjoyed your video, thankyo very much
catching up on videos now that you're showing back up on my feed. you disappeared for awhile. don't know what happened. but I'm enjoying the videos. will be purchasing a hat too.
Goodness John...I'd be so afraid of loosing all of that expensive camera equipment in all those rapids!! One tip is to always keep paddling when you go through rapids; that way you go faster than the water so you can keep control of the kayak..Otherwise the current will want to turn you sideways, which is worst thing can happen..If you keep paddling and keep your kayak facing straight, you have better chance...Altho really nasty stuff is smart to portage around like you did! :-)
Sorry john im a little late on this one...on a fishing adventure myself as we speak! Smallmouth are killing the nikko swimbait here but yet to land 1 on a hellgrammite (🤔)...but imma get back at it and save this video for around the campfire tonight 👍🏼...TIGHT LINES 🎣
That Lower Mountain Fork is no joke! It will wear you out! I kayaked it a couple of years ago. I'm headed to Broken Bow today but I'm wade fishing some other rivers. John, if you are interested, I made a video fishing the Upper Mountain Fork above Broken Bow last year. Check it out.

Fish in those rapids man that’s where the smallmouth and trout hang out in! Anywhere you see water moving cast in it

You sound like a thoughtful, loving man. I'll bet your daughters love you 100%, and know you gave them all.
Broken bow was named after Broken bow ,Nebraska. Dierks family named the town after their home town! They started the Dierks Lumber Co.
Rebel Craw is timeless
They've been around, since even I was, like, a teenager. Great lures!

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well-played sir. Well-played.
Sounds legit
Looks amazing would love to fish it I would have to pull up to some of the rocks in the middle of the chutes were there was some deep holes and try!

Showing my home state some love. Broken bow is definitely one of the prettiest parts of Oklahoma. Great video

Thanks for Sharing your trip John! Nice 👍 Rainbow 🌈 Trout. 🎣

Nice multi species video you were floating down some treacherous water but you got threw it you caught some nice bass

Gotta watch out for those donicks! I do miss the sound of white water!
You could always check with DNR about the correct method to use for catch and release of rainbow trout.
Now you just need to hit some dams in N.E. Oklahoma and get some big o' catfish and snag for spoonbill.

Just noticed that you don't use a paddle leash. I use paracord with a loop that goes into the paddle when it breaks into 2 pieces.
The River above the Lake is better for small mouth give that a try sometimes
