we always just used a 3/4" pvc pipe painted black and strapped to the roof or laid in the sun then elevated. no fuel needed for heat and we used a milk water valve that shuts off automatically.

I take Navy Showers most always--- to save on Propane, electricity and Well Water.....Propane & Electricity is not cheap anymore -- Great Idea you have.
