    I know a number of fans of the first don't like this movie and think it's more of a action flick and not a "true" Sicario film but I personally love this film as much as the first. I think it's a perfectly worthy sequel and shows a broader scope of how cartels fit into the crime world. Plus I love that Benicio got more screen time and we got to see a bit more of his character's emotions and motivations aside from revenge. And the fact he manages to seem like a terminator solidifies his reputation that we only heard brief mentions of in the first even more and makes me kinda wish we got a prequel showing Benicio's descent into the hardened killer we know. All in all, loved this film and hope they can make another showing what happens with his character next and possibly with the kid that shot him.

      I think this one blows the first one away , that final seen when Alejandro comes back from the dead & he closes the door on the boy & says let's talk about your future , still gives me goosebumps, the ending of the first film was just a little bit more shocking when first watching but the cliffhanger ending in the second one was perfecto

    One thing I wish they would have done marketing wise for this movie was keep the original title. Some might not remember this but an entire year before this movie’s release a trailer for it came out and it was only called “Soldado” back then.
    Maybe they were worried that the public wouldn’t know it was a sequel to Sicario, so they changed it? I don’t know about ya’ll, but “Soldado” sounds was more badass and enticing compared to -

Even more so when people inside the government institutions are willing to be uncivilized like the cartels and the terrorists. The first Sicario was about the futility of idealism. The second is about loyalty or a lack of it. Love both films.

    The premise for the opening (Islamist terrorists slipping in through the southern border) has been something authorities have been worried about for a long time. To my knowledge it's never happened although I believe one or two plots have been foiled in the early stages. Given how porous the border is though it is a worry. Although not as big of a worry as homegrown extremism, sadly.

    I do prefer it to the 1st movie, the great theme of how the war on the Cartels impacts children, with the boys getting enrolled by cartels and forced into this life of violence, among which, one is executed by his peer bc he couldn't execute Benicio Del Toro and the others get shot in cold blood by the CIA and the girl caught in the cross fire ends up traumatized for life;
    The plot starts as a Republican wet dream: ISIS terrorists sneaking through the south border to do suicide terrorist attacks; but then end up being a fantasy which lead the protagonists to commit useless atrocities
    The whole movie has these tense but almost anticlimatic action scenes where people get shot and instantly drop on the floor like potatoes bag, violence isn't glamorized unlike in the 1st one.
    This reminded me of the "Is there any such thing as an ‘anti-war film’?" debate started by François Truffaut because I felt like this was actually the first movie to not make gunfights thrilling in any way... until I went to the UA-cam comment sections of some of the scenes where chuds were absolutely turned on by the action scenes.

    9:46 I put off watching this for several years because I saw this scene in the trailer. Del Toro's character doing that with his finger is ridiculous. I'd seen it before while playing paintball. Players would do things like that to mimic automatic fire when they only have a semi-auto paintball marker or full autos are against the rules. Toro's character is supposed to be a stone cold killer who runs illegal operations with the CIA. He isn't a teenager trying to bunker someone in a pick up game.
    Turns out I liked the movie well enough but it's nothing special. My suspicions were well founded. 20 years from now, Sicario will still be a dope movie. Maybe not exactly a classic but something that still gets a hearty recommendation when a friend tells you that they've never seen it. Sicario 2 get that love. I think it will have the same fate as stuff like Predator 2 or Robocop 2. Decent enough but forever in the shadow of their predecessors.
