I teared one apart. It is potted with silicon, so it is water proof.

They are designed as parking sensors for cars, and can be used/read in many modes.

Thank you for this tutorial sir. Can i ask if you already had made a second video of this jsn sensor sir? Like re-writing the code to eliminate those false readings? Thank you.

People say it is to fine adjust the frequency (40kHz) at factory. I don't know for sure but when I messed with it almost nothing changed, which corroborates this theory. Also apparently, it is an adjustable inductor.

can i use the JSN-SR04T without that board? only the sensor to connect it to arduino? and im wondering how many cable are in that sensor, is there a com cable for sure or just VCC and GND?

it's a two pin sensor so you need a board to translate

    Hi! Thanks. Very helpful video.
Do you know if this sensor is better to measure soft surface like cloth? I want to measure the distance between this sensor and a human (who wears clothes). I couldn't do it with ultrasonic HC-SR04, seems like this sensor it's the same for my porpuse, doesn't?

    Hi
I read in some data sheets that it has a 75° measurement angle, but I cannot find clear info on this. Can you clarify this? I guess you could correct this by either mounting the sensor at an angle, or by correcting the results mathematically.
I am planning to use it for measurements of pond water levels (measuring downwards from a fixed beam onto the water surface).
    Thanks for any comments!

So, waterproof, tick; long cable, tick; more expensive, cross; unreliable, cross; can't measure under 20cm, cross; bigger board, cross. On balance, not an illustration of progress.

There are some compromises for sure compared to the HC-SR04, but I'm currently working on the next tutorial and will share my finding about the accuracy. Of course if your project needs to read distances lower than 20cm than yes, this sensor is not suited for those. Thank you for your comment and for watching!

@@BrainybitsCanada Thanks for this! Different projects have different requirements and can accept things that may not work out for others. For me, those shortcomings aren't significant compared to the benefits this product offers over the previous versions. Since my project experiment is to monitor the space above a vehicle (from about 4 ft (1.2m) below the roofline) to detect/display overhead obstruction distance/clearance, the 20cm minimum isn't an issue. Neither is the additional board, which will inside the vehicle. The 2.5m cord, small plug, and single/small sensor gives me some excellent and unobtrusive mounting options. I do plan to use 2, one on each forward corner, because damage to equipment on the roof would be real bad. Yes, this is just a back-up when moving under low overhangs at very slow speeds (that you should have confidence already in clearing). Of interest will be how reliable and accurate at distances of 2m-3m (6.5 to 10 ft).
