Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant physicists, the kind of ''beautiful minds'' that understand how the universe works. But none of that genius helps them interact with people, especially women. All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny moves in next door. Starring Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, and Melissa Rauch. Created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady.

I know the joke is Mary being, arguably, offensive to Raj and Howard due to their religion, but she's actually being very respectful in what she's saying, trying to continually make sure they feel comfortable, etc. She's doing her best, even if a lot of people now a days wouldn't consider that enough.
She lacks subtlety, but is clearly trying to be respectful and polite.
Shes offensive when she doesn't mean to be, its something people on the internet fail to understand alot. Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by ignorance.
@flyhyland Oh really what about when the b*tch asked if "you" people believe that chicken is magic. That was extremely racist. They all think all indians are extremely backward primitive tribal villagers. May she burn in hell for all eternity for that! She is extremely rude and extremely offensive just like her degenerate hellspawn Sheldon. May they both burn in hell for all eternity!
She’s way better than Leonard’s mom.
I just love Mary
I love the fact that Laurie’s daughter Zoe Perry plays Young Sheldon’s mother. She has some of Laurie’s mannerisms.
Best casting, ever.
And young Sheldon's dad was Lenard's bully., hahahaha
I forgot about that!
Really helps to sell the illusion that they're the same character too.
Kudos betsy, I was unaware of that.
"You don't hunt , do you ?" Cracks me up every time ... 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
The mothers in this comedy show are ultimate and super hilarious. Howard's mom, Sheldon's mom, Leonard's mom, Raj's mom. They're all creates a whole funny universe.
They should have had an episode centered around the moms…would have been hilarious!🤣🤣
Except amys mom.
@@Leadeshipcoach Howards mom would be constantly yelling
They should create a spin-of. Big Bang moms. Or Banging moms.
Penny's mom was sort of uptight and insecure though. And Amy's mom was a raging bitch later on.
Mary Cooper is one of my favorite side characters on TBBT, every episode with her is gold.
And easily the worst character in young sheldon
They loaded her down with every conceivable stereotypical fundamentalist tic, yet she still can across as one of the kindest characters in the series.
And for all the literalists out there, the TBBT scripts were littered with lines about Sheldon's father that had nothing to do with the later show, like fighting a bobcat, or the family having a dog.
@@masudbillah6196honestly, I don’t like Mary in young Sheldon.
1. She also can’t admit when she is wrong. I can see how Sheldon got this habit.
2. Her eyes look weird when she is angry.
Both Mary Coopers are Gold! It’s crazy that they’re Mother and Daughter in real life!
One thing TBBT did that I thought was gold was get the best side character. Kripke, Zach, Stuart, the moms.
Sheldon's mom has the best insight into people sometimes. Even when Leonard and Penny were going back-and-forth on "Are we together or aren't we together?", Sheldon's mom could see that they would be a great couple, before they finally figured it out!
I love it when she picks on that and asks Howard...did I pluck a nerve and he says...OH YEAH!
Laurie Metcalf did an incredible job acting in this scene.
Like Daughter,like mother
The fact that Jim Parsons was able to pitch a show to TV executives based on his young character, and hire Laurie Metcalf’s daughter to play young Meg is a testament to his takent👏👏👏👏👏
It's actually Mary, not Meg, but you make a really good point. Young Sheldon turned out to be a great show :)
@@KingsFanForever 😉 of course
Studios are always trying to continue a property, so they were probably excited as soon as they heard they could keep making money off his character in a spinoff, regardless of what the idea was.
This woman isn't perfect but she is far, far better than Leonard's loathsome mother. Leonard's mother treated her son like a science experiment and wrote a book on it. That's not funny, it's criminal.
yeah. even with being a religious nut she was a better mother(and probably better person, yes you can be a religious nut and a good person) than leonard's mother.
@@sabin97 ua-cam.com/video/nbhpUjXAfrM/v-deo.html
Cmon, its a comedy show. Leonard's mom is a second version of Sheldon, literally. She's play a big part for comedy purpose. You don't need to be so mad. Lol
Leonard's mother was an emotional zilch! She was the cold fish's cold fish.
Right?! Based on what was mentioned and implied, Leonard's early life was basically Beau is Afraid without the billions of dollars of extra steps in it.
Laurie Metcalf is such an amazing actor. Hopefully she will be a future Oscar winner. She absolutely deserves one.
Nominated at least once that I know of...3 time Emmy Winner though.
She is pure gold.
Yes. A lot of people forget she is also a very accomplished stage actor.
@@mgwilliams1000 Oliver Stone once mentioned that while she has DONE Broadway, most of Laurie's background is in Chicago Theater!
She was incredible on Desperate Housewives.
The funniest thing is Mary is the only person who sat in sheldons spot and got away with it
And MeeMaw
Despite how the audience gasps portray it, her checking with Raj that he's ok with what she cooked is honestly very sweet.
Mary immediately sensing the tension/connection that Leonard & Penny have is such a great little touch. That’s my best friends mom to a T. She has predicted the beginning & end of about 20 or so relationships in our friend group, & when she says a couple is meant for each other it’s gospel. Mama T has never been wrong once. It’s her sixth sense. Yet for some reason we all ignored her at least once with a failed relationship 😂.
You didn't ignore her. You went out of your way to prove she was right. It always worked with my parents.
@@markforster6457yep, plus hindsight is always 20/20. Its not until years later that you look back on your life and realize what terrible mistakes your choices made in your teens and twenties.
@@edselgreaves6503 I was amazed by how much smarter my parents became after I turned 30.
The story of Nuclear Reactor and Uranium had an episode in Young Sheldon. 😂
she got the age wrong though. Sheldon was far younger than 13 in that YS episode
@@edwardtan1773and they didn’t have a dog
But not George fighting a Bobcat for licorice😢
The baby deer face lmao 😂
Oh deer
what i love about this, is that we can watch a scene like this, telling us about a much younger sheldon, and then finally we could watch a tv series all about it.
Laurie's role as Mary erased my trauma from her role in Desperate Housewives as the store shooter. Damn, that episode is too intense for me at that time.
Worse than her playing Mrs Loomis in Scream2???
@@maestroclassico5801 never seen it.
You should watch her play the university professor in Hulu's "Dropout" series about Elizabeth Holmes/Theranos
I always felt that this show was very respectful to religion. Never withheld the counterarguments or the jokes but still I always liked the balance of it.
Yeah weirdly young Sheldon where peoples are less agressively atheist is far less respectful
Turning everyone into caricature
I disagree. They never let a instant go by without trying to make her religion seem foolish.
They respecto cristianism but no other religion
@@marthacanady9441 - you have a point, but _Young Sheldon_ examines faith and its tests far more fairly.
@@marthacanady9441they never made Christianity look foolish, they were doing it to her character.
Haha Kaley trying not to laugh at the magic line!
"Lard"... 😂😂😂
I’m sure it was due to Sheldon being so moody and for the comedy of him “being like a deer” for the scene but I find that Sheldon has so much regard for his mother he doesn’t even point out at any time that his mother is sitting in his spot or should move. As seen in later episodes when he’s in emotional distress, if it were any other person, he would have definitely said something.
“Pissed our dog off to no end.” There’s no dog in Young Sheldon.
Or cat.
I always thought Jim Parsons's playing the autistic genius was "too much" ... then I met a woman who has an autistic son, and I can see a lot of his traits in Sheldon now.
Sheldon isn’t autistic. Stop projecting.
@@zerotodona1495he is clearly
Always loved Mary on TBBT. After watching Mary on Young Sheldon and seeing clips like this again it’s great seeing all the filters gone. Both legendary shows.
Except that in young sheldon the Cooers don't have a dog
@@parth17bhatia that’s right Sheldon is scared of dogs and just about every other living thing.
Why does the Mary here and Young Mary on young Sheldon looks the same?

Me too
George wasn't as stupid as they portrayed him to be on TBBT. Never once saw him shoot a racoon close enough to crap itself either. I don't think he even owned a gun.
@@Fazzel now that I think about it those stories would make sense if they happened when he was a young drunk stupid kid just trying to impress Mary b
I'll be honest. I honestly see Sheldon's mother also as Leonard, Howard and Raj's mother. I honestly see Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj as brothers
The mothers in this show are ultimate and super hilarious. Howard's mom, Sheldon's mom, Leonard's mom, Raj's mom. They're all creates a whole funny universe.
@@adw6894 and since I see Stuart as Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj's cousin, I admit I imagine Sheldon's mother as Stuart unseen mother's sister
Not raj since he isn’t the same race as the other three. I would probably say penny in replacement of raj.
@@SYDAirlineEnthusiastMakes no difference. My adopted Brother is of Indian ethnicity. There's zero difference. 😊
Did Howard actually tried to hit on Sheldon’s mother 😂😂
She's a female with a pulse, of course he tried.

Yep, Howard is creepy as hell before he met his wife😅
Yes, while also admitting that he also finds Sheldon sexually attractive.

Fell out of me at the Kmart. Best line ever😂
I wonder if she made it to the hospital in time to have Missy? It was never said Missy was born in a Kmart.

Im a big fan of Sheldon's mom😅.
You don't hunt, do ya??😂😂😂😂
you just have to love this women, every family should have one, not just any women but this one.
I prefer Leonard's mom and Howard's mom. They're much more funny and hilarious. They get me all the time
2:52 Raj couldn't keep a straight face 😂😂😂
Love how the Coopers are the only ones who can sit in his spot
She’s a brilliantly hilarious actress
She outclassed everyone in the cast without even trying
I can’t be the only one stuck at Sheldon having a dog at 13 haha
and you can just picture Sheldon making a sonic death ray!
George fought a bobcat for liquorice? When do we get to see that in Young Sheldon? Lol
There are so many things they mentioned in TBBT they didn't show, which I would have seen.
For example, George Sr.'s driving whiskey.
Young Sheldon’s George is basically a different character
Could it be that most of these anecdotes about George were actually from before he got married? When he and Mary were just young and dating?
@@edselgreaves6503 No, since Sheldon describes himself as having witnessed (and vividly remembering) several of them
Laurie Metcalf is just brilliant
Mary really hit the mark when it came to Leonard and penny
Sheldon mom is ❤. I lile how mary casually ait on sheldon's spot and nobody seems to object.
Leonard should have listened to Mrs Cooper after yelling at Sheldon in regards to getting back his job
I like her best as
Sheldon's mom. ☺️
Mary became more and more like Meemaw
When your sister is Rosanne, subtlety is not your forte
Only Sheldon's mother sits in the Sheldon's spot.
Idk about everyone else but Leonard was 100% in the right here.
Love the dramatic turn sheldon makes like an animal.
Love/lard has been a food joke in my family since this aired. 😂
I love how Howard takes Raj's hand and his face says, "Yep we're doin this." LOL
Laurie Metcalf/ "Shelly's" mom to Leonard (Johnny Galecki): "You don't hunt, do you?" .....THIS CRACKS ME UP!!!! :)
You don't hunt,do you😂😂😂😂
I know TBBT came out first, but man is it nice to see how much she chilled out since Young Sheldon
2:05 boy was she right!!
*you don’t hunt do you?*
I kind of wish they made an episode about Mary possibly learning hunting on young Sheldon. Because since she’s so uptight about things, it be nice to see why and how she’d know anything about hunting.
To be fair, she had her parents who were more into hunting - and her dad was into taxidermy at some point
You know what the secret ingredient is?
Love?!
Lard. (Penny's face be like 🥴)
Thanks,...now I want to plug in Big Bang & binge watch from this episode onward.
now, it all makes sense why Young Sheldon's characters are so different from the Big Bang theory characters. Sheldon just remember things A LOT DIFFERENTLY.
Or is it the other way around?
Well, in Young Sheldon, he narrates about scenes to which he wasn’t a witness and couldn’t have known about and draws attention to the music in the show’s soundtrack even though that doesn’t really make sense except as a meta-joke.
Lolol an actual episode on Young Sheldon 😂😂
Never did understand why Leonard snapped at Sheldon when his mother specifically warned the group not to do that because it won't work. She's his mother. The one person on Earth that knows best how to handle him. You want her to fix a Sheldon problem, you do what she says, lol.
I mean, I appreciate the hunting joke at the end, because it was really funny, but Leonard specifically did the opposite of what she said to do, even though she's there for the specific reason of turning him around and making him see sense. Why'd you even do invite her in the first place if you're not gonna listen to her?
Well in this situation you are 100% correct, cause it's Sheldon but you know in real life with normal people like you and me, I believe close friends understand us way better than our own family because usually we behave differently in front of our parents and try to hide our dark secrets from them. On the other hand, with friends we behave as what we really are! So some friends can have better understanding of how to handle a friend, but of course it's not the case with Sheldon!!!
She’s his mom. She’s known him all along-in some ways he’s very predictable. Can’t hide much from a mom like that.
Mary treated him like a child. Leonard treated him like an adult. Neither are wrong.
@@okfalcon6444
'in some ways he’s very predictable.'
Sheldon is INCREDIBLY predictable. His Hollywood OCD means people know where he is and what he's doing at all times because he has a schedule. Penny even uses that to her advantage when they're feuding. Meanwhile, his lack of any kind of growth between childhood and adulthood means his mother knows exactly how his mind works.
Honestly, it reminded me of Sheldon's dad. I feel he would have done the same thing.
best one yet.
The story about the uranium is played out on either season 1 of Young Sheldon! 😅😅😅
I love how the story Mary told actually happened in Young Sheldon.
Except the dog
I just love Mrs. Mary Cooper!
Can we appreciate how all the characters are diverse in their origins? leonard is from the east coast (jersey), Sheldon from the south (texas), Howard from california (west), penny (nebraska, midwest, north), and raj the indian foreigner. This is what I call an american sitcom!
And this obsession with forced diversity is the root cause of all the garbage shows. They should focus on the thing that matters. Entertainment and comedy, not diversity

1:02 i read this in George voice lol
Howard is adorable in this episode
i love how every thing she mentioned appears within young sheldon
Those who keep saying : so many mistakes, this isn’t how it is in Young Sheldon
Well, guess what, this scene was written years before Young Sheldon was even thought of !
And it’s pretty difficult to perfectly plan a work of fiction for at least 10 seasons and a 5 seasons spin-off without any plot holes or anachronism because when they start writing the show, they can’t even be certain that this will go beyond the 1st season ! So they can’t decide « Oh my, we can’t mention a dog because in 2 seasons we’re gonna mention he hates dogs and in 15 years, we’re gonna write the spin-off without a dog ! » or remember 4 seasons later « wait, we can’t make him hate dogs for the plot of this episode , he mentioned 62 episodes ago that he had a dog ! »
That’s how hard it is to write a very looooooooong work of fiction. And more importantly : it’s fiction ! Do you really expect to make as much sense as if it were reality ?
Also, keep in mind that Young Sheldon is a framed narrative, which means we're not seeing things happen in real time, but we're seeing things that the current-day Sheldon is recalling from his own memory.
If anything, that inconsistency is a critique of Young Sheldon rather than Big Bang Theory
I don’t know, reality doesn’t always make sense 😮
