I'm also glad Nintendo stopped Mario from pulling a Call of Duty.
As you know, in the early 2010s Nintendo made a Mario game every year with little difference (besides 3d world and land) people were becoming bored of it, Nintendo saw that and started taking their time with Mario again.

"Jump Up Superstar" sequence in _Super Mario Odyssey_ feels like a heartwarming tribute to the success and origins of Mario and his adventures. This is truly a magical moment to experience such beauty of nostalgia.
I heard that song actually made people shed tears which I can definitely understand. A beloved series being celebrated in such a special way and bringing back classic characters and different yet familar gameplay, Sonic Mania did thr same exact thing. It truly is something magical.

Mario Odyssey is actually one of my favorite games of all time. The multiple ways you can approach collecting Moons and the overall charm of the game makes revisits incredibly fun.
Definently overrated. Yea it was good but not that good. Mmmm where can I get moons. I feel like 999 is way to much. Ground pound here. Dog did here. Attack this sign. Buy with coins. It's just way to much and feels like a chore to get them all

The Mario RPGs really changed my perspective on the Mario Franchise, back then I always liked the simple world, now I’m more into a cohesive world with a wide variety of characters, even if their roles are small, it just makes the world feel more alive.

Random thing in my life: I just gotten Mario Party 9. I was really excited to play it with my two sisters and father. As soon as I tried to take the disc out of the box, the disc broke. It hadnt even gone into the Wii. You shouldve seen the look on my face. Keep in mind the game costs $59.99.

Oh, how unfortunate. This probably isn't related to your situation, but your story reminds me of the time me and my brother went to Best Buy to get Bayonetta 2 and we unwrapped the plastic wrap on the case and opened it and inside was a clear white disc. It was so shocking, the case was wrapped up yet the disc didn't have the game in it all! We had to go back to get the real game CD. Really wish I had recorded that moment.

The earliest I go back to be considered modern is either New Super Mario Bros in May 2006 or to the release of the Wii 6 months later
@Mario Fan learn to spell. Also, remember that those games came out a very long time ago. You can’t really expect a game from 1996 to be as polished as a game from 2006. And a lack of polish doesn’t mean a game is bad, I couldn’t care less how unpolished a game is as long as it’s fun.
@Mario Fan super Mario 64 came out in 1996, I wasn’t talking about sunshine. It fine that you don’t like 64, I was getting that you thought it was bad because of a lack of polish. I personally got use to the controls.

It’s like if the other 2000s Paper Mario games tied with this game on the list since they are all our favourites in the series before the series went from having complex, unique escapades to relying too much on paper for the kiddies.

I was really hoping that Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story would be on the honorable mentions cause I played the crap out of that game.
I personally would’ve loved if Superstar Saga DX or Dream Team was there, because the original Superstar Saga was my childhood, and the remake is exactly like the original but better in my opinion, and Dream Team is just such an amazing RPG. I won’t deny that Bowser’s Inside Story is also amazing, but I didn’t grow up with that one like I did Superstar Saga and I found myself slightly more interested in Dream Team
RedDeath5 I agree Superstar Saga and Dream Team in my opinion are both equally well layed out and fun to play. My only issue is that Superstar Saga was too easy and Dream Team was too long.
My dumbass seven year old self got stuck at like level 2. Haven’t played since. Should probably pick it up again
Leo Matthews very true, that’s why I love SSDX because it’s harder and more of a challenge. Dream Team is very long but I still had a lot of fun with it

Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
Super Mario World
And if you want to get technical, I suppose you could add Skylanders: SuperChargers to that list, because of how it gave us the ability to play as Bowser in a 3D platforming game BEFORE Odyssey did it.
I’d add Super Mario Bros. 3 but yeah it’s your opinion. Those games are really good too!

FinalMagus 25 I honestly don’t understand what there is to dislike about Wii Party. I completely understand Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival being disliked, but Wii Party was a fun, smooth and creative game for me and my friends. I still wish I could go back and play Board Game Island one last time

I find the lack of Sunshine immensely disturbing.

I’ve heard Mario Tennis Aces is a big improvement over Ultra Smash.
I can confirm, I own both games. Aces has more characters including most of Ultra Smash's roster, tournaments, more courts with actual gimmicks instead of downgraded versions of Open's courts, and a Story Mode.

Aces is literally just Ultra Smash 2.0, except they changed the Mega Mushroom to something you need to actually think before using.

@@GodlyDiamonds I wouldn't say its underrated per say but it was a really good game. A lot of people talk positively of it. If you mean underrated as in "most haven't played" I think the fact it being on the WiiU was why most people havent played it. 3D Land was on 3DS and more people have a 3DS than they have a WiiU. I heard some people might not like the gameplau of 3D World but I find that hard to believe.
Its the only video game I waited in launch, it holds a special place in my heart

The sad thing is, Sticker Star was supposed to be a creative game and it was going to be an amazing game but then Mario’s creator completely changed it
They wanted the game to be more like the mainline games, which doesn't work all that well in a RPG series at all. RPGs aren't supposed to be that simple.
The one time Shigeru Miyamoto was responsible for a bad game.
The only good thing about the game, is the soundtrack, but like Phantom said, you don't have much interactions outside of the Toads, and the story is really bland, but the soundtrack is really something else,
the combat system by using stickers could have been a good idea, but without those, you cannot to anything, and the puzzles aren't interesting,
Super Paper Mario was hated by a lot of people, but the story was awesome, there is more interactions with other characters than Toads, and the plot twist is really good too.
@@themc3140 Everyone always follows the assumption that "Miyamoto hates story" but that's not true at all. There's always story littered everywhere in the mainline platformer games too, but it's just really simple, but if he didn't care about putting in story then there would be no need for what story there was in games like Sunshine, Galaxy or Odyssey and even in Super Mario World. He just feels gameplay comes first and that story should be allowed but not the main aspect. He tried doing that with Paper Mario, feeling the games should be like the mainline games, taking place in the Mushroom Kingdom instead of in different settings, but doing so took away of what made the Paper Mario games special to it's fans.
@@ri-n6431 I agree Sticker Star was bad but it certainly did have a very catchy soundtrack. I thought Color Splash was really good though, and that the battle system was nice, the only thing I hated was if Kamek stole your cards or if you didn't have enough paint to fill your cards. I agree the gameplay of Super Paper Mario wasn't my favorite and I wasn't a fan of the pixel aspect but the story was definitely one of its best selling points.
Now, I've only played bit of these 3D Mario games, but my favorite is without a doubt, Super Mario Galaxy 2!

Mario has always been part of my childhood thanks his game. Even with his highs and lows, I still love Mario to this day. Personal favorites are the Galaxy games and Odyssey.

Odyssey is the only recent Mario game that did a great job at building off what Super Mario 64 did right.....
While also adding something unique to the franchise.

It's amazing to see how the Mario franchise has grown over the decades. From racing, platforming, tennis, party games, and even making your own levels, it seems like this icon truly is a testament of Nintendo's legacy.

As one of the very few people who bought a Wii U, 3D World was my favorite Mario game growing up. I loved the levels, the playable characters, the soundtrack, and the Super Bell has become my favorite Mario Power Up. Out of all the Wii U games that deserves to be ported to the Nintendo Switch, 3D World is the one I want most.

I love the Paper Mario series! The first and second games are so iconic and memorable. As for the third, well... I don't talk about Super Paper Mario lmfao. It was kind of trash. SO forgettable - for a Mario game, I expected MUCH more. Literally all I remember is that it was weird. XD
And obviously, Sticker Star is a disgrace as well. Color Splash was just another Sticker Star unfortunately. I'm hoping the new game, Origami King, and capture the magic of the first two while avoiding the weird, forgettable story of the third and the tedious gameplay of the fourth and fifth.

Personally I think the original is superior. It feels more fun and charming. Also it has the better battle music.

Same, the character who is with Mario isn't really useful, i got stuck in the 3rd world with the forest, and i had no ideas that i have to use a trumpet, so then, the Wiggler would move out of the way.
To me at least, the best Mario game since 2002 was definitely Odyssey!

I’ve always loved Mario games, especially Mario Party and Kart, but I’d really like to see a list of worst and best Sonic the Hedgehog games because...well, I’m sure you know why 😊
The only thing I would change is replaced Mario Kart 8 deluxe with Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story but great video
I would replace it with Galaxy. I think its good, but the camera control and cheap controls turned me off. I honestly think that Bowsers inside story should have made it here
