      To be fair, football bench pressers lean close grip without crazy arches for practical reasons. They attack the body of other players at the line, so hitting them between their shoulders on the chest, to push the opposing player off balance. Wide grips and big arches don't translate to that kind of power and strength while standing up. I can't think of any way a powerlifting style bench press correlates to actual movements in day to day life or other sports

    "In 1983, at 23 and a lean 300 lbs., he competed in his first and only powerlifting meet. The numbers seem mythical: 837.7 squat, 501.5 bench press, and, a near world record, 865.3 deadlift. By comparison the legendary Bill Kazmaier won the super-heavyweight class of the Powerlifting World Championships that year (his last competition at 29) with a total of 2149.5. Long, a 23-year-old novice, totaled 2204.5, 55 lbs. more than Kaz! Long had squatted 900 and benched 565 in training, and he likely woud’ve smashed powerlifting world records if he wasn’t drafted into the NFL."

    Dude has no clue how to bench. No arch, no tightness, feet are sliding all over the place. Yet he somehow benches more than most people will ever deadlift. He is a beast and if he actually looked up how to bench and did some practice session to get his form dialed in, he would get that 247 kg without even having to get any stronger.

      this is how most football players bench tho. They use their power and explosion (instead of technique) to push the weight up, which makes sense because the actual chest muscle is only a small part of playing football.

    I have lifted for almost 35 years. I am 47 and started at 13...I was 256 lbs at my heaviest in college and was jacked...I trained with heavy free weights, but was not into the power lifting look so I kept it more to a bodybuilding look..my heaviest bench was 530...it was once...I usually cruised in the 3s and 4s for more reps as I was not looking to single rep max...anyway my point is to say in no way shape or form is the way he man handled that weight easy...to lay and roll over 500 lbs and control it when laying it on yourself is just nuts. I've felt that weight...I hit it at 22 yrs old and at 47 I still remember what it felt like...I still train with heavy (not nearly as much as back then) free weights 5 days a week , but threw cardio in when I turned 30...so my weight is nowhere near what it was.cim focused on keeping in the best shape as possible as I age...not sure how many of you have been over 500 on the bench , but the ones that have really know how insanely strong this man is.

    • @CosmosZeroX
      @CosmosZeroX 2 роки тому +1

      nobody in this channel can bench press 500+ pounds. If you managed that back then you're the only one here. Because maybe 1/10'000 people can do that or even less...The strongman Brian Shaw who has a chest bigger than anyone else could do 5 repetitions with 500 pounds. He was about 400 pounds and Worlds strongest man. So if you really managed 530 pound this is remarkable...The NFL players are probably all bench pressers and psychopaths and many of them roiders. So I think nobody can compare to them...

  • @poolman20001
    @poolman20001 2 роки тому +1

    That’s totally insane to me. I train for strength, in my 40s and I am strong. Below 200 lbs body weight. Can bench 340 lbs, deadlift over 600, and squat 550. It’s weird that my squat is nearly as strong as my deadlift. It just is.
    But this beast, Jesus Christ! If you look close, his grip is on the inside of the power ring, that’s by definition a close grip bench. I Imagine because of his age, he has shoulder issues, and is probably why he goes close. But also, his leg drive is almost non existent! I see no flow from his legs to his bench. I see tension in his legs, but that’s about it.
    Also, he is nearly flat. Don’t even look like he is pinching his shoulders much. Guess he don’t need to because his grip is so close.
    Then the way this guy rolled and handled that weight. 😂. Fucking insane! I would be worried if I got stuck with three plates!
