Gears of War 2 not only has the best soundtrack in all of the Gears games, but I believe it's one of the best in all of video games. Hell, I legit use the Gears of War 2 ost for my D&D campaigns.
I think the thing I admire Gears of War 2 for doing the most is introducing and getting me to care about the Maria plot line. For a majority of Gears 2, I really didn’t give a shit, as Dom’s fixation on finding his wife wasn’t really properly established until the beginning of this game. My primary objective as the player was just to eliminate the Locusts by any means necessary. After all, I kicked RAAM’s ass in the last game, so now we gotta take the fight underground and wipe the Queen out right? But the cutscene where Marcus and Dom have that miniature argument over whether or not to go after Maria sold that entire plot line for me. I think Marcus’ lines about “focusing on the mission” and “everything we’ve been fighting for” were exactly what was on my mind in that moment, but seeing Dom’s unbreakable conviction towards saving his wife really buried my investment into that plot. And because of that, I felt myself tearing up when they reunited. You wouldn’t really expect a gory action shooter about big muscular men chainsawing overgrown moloids to move someone to tears, but everything ain’t what it seems, ya know?
Same I was like “Wives? They got time for wives? This is GEARS I don’t care about this man’s wife she probably dead.” But then the scene happened and I was sad
@@Tay234. Bro I rewatched that scene the other night and bawled my eyes out. It's one of the huge reasons I still haven't forgotten that campaign... and the score, fuck man. Just so well done.
Gears 2 was literally my childhood, im going to be picking up a Series X just to replay this, my 360 is dead. Dying in Gears 2 felt a bit rewarding, as dumb as it sounds, but I loved the crawling mechanic, as well as the blood filled screen when you bled out for long enough, or once you died, the gore made it 10x better.
There’s so much I forgot about this game. Of course the big moments like finding Maria and two killing him self. But the amount of obstacles thrown at the team on top of that - rift worm, leviathan, sires, scourge, and the lambert introduction. This game really had it all. And again, I have to emphasize how well you talked about how good the characters , character development / script was. Insanely under rated incredible game that I was too young and naive to fully appreciate when it came out
@@speedking7224 Not really. I love gaming, and if she leaves because you like to play a game a lot then yeah. But if you neglect your relationship and life for the game, then you have some issues to work out.
I do remember kind of being bored with GOW3 because of the stalks. Its a game where theres nothing out and out WRONG with it, but just doesnt feel necessary. But GOW and GOW2.....so many good memories. I miss playing games with friends. Wasting Saturdays, eating pizza and going through the levels with pals. And real GOW players know that relief when they hear that electric guitar chord.... such a brilliant way to subtly restore calm.
This is like the Golden Throne of gaming right here. The title holder. I've seen friends break down in tears, & I heard its given people nightmares & it has changed the gaming world forever. The characters are some of the most beloved & iconic in any series, the war is hell, the effects of it traumatize everyone, & you genuinely cannot play the game again because of just how harrowing an experience it is. You just don't get games like this. It's in a category all of its own. A masterpiece. And I feel very bad for all the people who made the trilogy so flawless, only to have it taken all down & destroyed by "Gears" sequels that were just corporate cash cows. Fenix: "You are pissed today" Dom: "You're DAMN right I'm pissed. I miss my FAMILY"
Not taken away Epic games sold the Gears of War IP to Microsoft because it was keeping expensive for them to develop new games. The Coliation is what happens when a dev team doesn't understand what made the series good in the first place
I LOVED Gears 1. So much so that when Gears 2 dropped I actually didnt want to get it because I was worried it would ruin my memories of Gears 1. I like gears 2. The story was good, but the highlight of the first game for me was always the sheer panic that the berserkers instilled in me. I was disappointed there were none in gears 2.
Gears 1 is the most well rounded third person shooter of all time. I’ll die on this hill. The berserkers..ram..the multiplayer maps… the matchmaking. Playing gears 1 for the first time was truly special. A lot of these younger players don’t understand, and it shows. Gears 2 and 3 are amazing but gears 1 is truly something else. Nailed the horror esque/ predator testosterone thing the best out of the series. Gears 2 started just adding characters for no reason. Adding colors. Adding weapons. Boring maps. Gears 1 was practically perfect.
@@MC_1993 Gears 1 is a masterpiece. Gears 2 just didnt live up to its shoes. The multiplayer maps arent as good. Its like they actively decided to make maps that were more lancer/focus fire based to incentivize team work and more "tactical" gameplay. They didnt want to embrace what gears 1 was and that was a gnasher focused game and it shows in gears 2. Gears 2 has probably the worst multiplayer in the series next to judgment and judgment only gets a bad rep because of the lack of content
Most people that think gow2 was the best, started on Gow2. My friends list was full of Gow1 players at the time and i haven't heard any 1 of them say that GOW2 or GoW3 were better than GOW1
My xbox friends and I built a small clan to play Gears 2 multi player. We called it the K1 clan, some of my best memories were playing with them. I was young and it wasn't the easiest time of my life but they helped me through it without even knowing. Thanks guys, I'll never forget
It felt really impactful from the get go. The tension was there from the start, because even after all the work you did in the first game Humanity was still on the brink of losing. The campaign made you really feel like you were at war, and I really cared about all of the characters. I feel like this game had the best character development in the series. Dom’s finding Maria is so haunting. You want to find Maria so bad because you see how her going missing effects Dom, but once you find Tai something in you already knows that she’s not going to be okay. You don’t want to believe it but you know it’s true. And then you find her. And she’s healthy and alive and it’s a shock compared to how Tai was. And then it’s all ripped away when the illusion is gone, and we feel Dom’s pain. We feel like Marcus, watching our best friend have to put his wife down. We feel like Dom, knowing we came all this way and it was just too late. The drama, the tension, the incredible gritty atmosphere. Carmine makes it surprisingly far into the game before he’s killed, and I honestly didn’t think he was going to die when all of a sudden he just did. And in my eyes this was Gears of War combat at it’s finest. Gritty, weighty, raw and bloody and made you feel like part of an actual war, like part of an actual team. The new Gears of War games lack weight and intensity, just like Crowbcat showed off in his video. They lack a real reason to keep fighting. Gears of War 2 gave us a reason and then just kept adding more onto it as we lost more characters and the tension rose. And the campaign’s maps were excellent. It featured enough fantastic setpieces to make you feel like a part of something bigger, while keeping enough boots to the ground hardcore action to remind you that this is a real war and to keep you grounded. There’s enough variety in the types of engagements that you never get bored of playing, and the core combat loop is great and keeps you constantly engaged snd challenges you without pushing you to the point of constant stress. Believe me there’s stressful parts, but that’s always the perfect amount if stress. Like seeing Reavers crash down onto the battlefield, or the whole part about being in the gut of that monster that Carmine dies in. They sprinkled in small glimmers of hope with each victory. They brought you places the new games could never imagine. This game was incredible and every part of it helped to build this fantastic universe and this even more fantastic game that I am so glad I played.
I would buy a physical copy and download it! This is the series that made me fall in love with video games for the 2nd time in my life. The first series was Megaman!
God this brings back memories! I played the shit out of this game for YEARS! multiple campaign playthroughs, endless weekends playing horde with friends, sleepless school nights with matchmaking. It was truly an awesome game and I feel like after the OT gears era community gaming fell off. What a game this was!
You will never understand it if you weren't there, from the campaign, MP and horde, this game had it all, it is so sad to see what the franchise have become though
Gears of War 2 just felt like someone stabbed me with a syringe that was hooked to a barrel of testosterone. Honestly has to be one of the manliest games of all time 10/10
When my parents finally got me a 360 for Christmas, this is the game they chose to pair it with. I'm so glad they did, this game is so fucking good, they took the original Gears and just added and improved on it so much with all the new weapons and executions and the incredible story. They need to remaster this man.
It’s the world, gritty-ness, just straight up fighting on their turf, the different types of locust and variants. My favorite Boomer variants were the maulers, and the blood mounts. Out of all the gears games, gears 2 stands above all of them story and lore wise. Of course the game is from 2008 and has it little clunky moments, it’s still fluid and smooth nonetheless. I always wish it can be remastered and implemented with gears 5 mechanics, just the movements and fluidity of wall bouncing.
Well good news because there's a 'remastered collection' in the works which will be the same thing as 'the master cheif collection' for Halo. And I'm assuming that gears 2 and 3 will be remastered, obviously due to the name of the collection.
Cliff used to be a big name in the games industry before he lost his mind. Hopefully the next GoW game won't be a let down like Gears 5, which isn't even a Gears Of War game from the beginning sadly...

What sealed Dizzy for me was the transition from reluctance to enthusiasm to devotion. At first he sees his time with Delta as an obligation ("I ain't got no choice... Family got the groceries, but daddy got conscripted [...]."). Then through the trek to Landown he gets more into it, enjoying his time with Marcus and Co. With quips and compliments. ("Nice one boys! Mhm! Smell that Brumak barbecue.") And when the squad's ready to deploy, it's Dizzy who jumps up and goes head to head with Skorge ("I'll hold 'im off boys! Y'all get your asses on then!"). It's brief, but it's a complete arc for a character who could just as easily been "Cowboy hat guy" and nothing else.
Personally for me GoW 3 will always be my favourite and people may disagree that its not the best but for me it is, growing up playing as Dom and having him sacrifice himself for his team really got to me since I always played as a support player in the campaign, helping my brother with ammo and the side line support and watching him do what he did in that cutscene and supporting his team even to the end made me really like the campaign since it got to me all the way through. The desperate feeling with everyone being hungry and tension is high because of the lambernt being a high threat really makes me enjoy the game and this isn't even including the online play, horde and beast mode.
Gears of War 2 was my second XBox 360 game back in the day and I remember being one of the first if not the first game that actually got me into the story and campaign of a game. I was a teenager, so video games (since the Super Nintendo) was, for me, most about the fun and distraction but with Gears of War 2 I remember actually wanting to know more about the story, its character and not only what would happen next but what happened before, wanting to play Gears of War 1 after finishing 2

But what's most important is that Gears 2 is a Stunning Gears sequel that has aged like fine wine, remaining The best Gears sequel to this very day. @@mrbogdanoff9233 saying gears 3 wasn’t good is objectively wrong.
I remember I used to be such a god when I played this back when the multiplayer wasn’t laggy. A lot of fun times chatting with randoms online, truly people that knew what they were doing.
A shame that I cant even enjoy multiplayer in the newest games
When I think that the GoW2 multiplayer lobbies are now empty I feel very sad...
Great times that will never come back.
@@POLLO91x don’t be sad about that brother, be happy that we were in one of the best (if not THE BEST) eras of gaming.
@@RabiaaHQ So true! :')
Best multiplayer ever.i would stay up all night playing.everyone talking trash
Competition just caught up
I agree, Gears of War 2 had everything. I just played through it again and was thinking to myself, man they don't make games like this anymore.
You hit it on the head bro , choked me up reading the comment 💯💪🏽
I want to get a series x but it means I have to buy an expensive ass TV so I have to save
@@mrbogdanoff9233 you don't really need an expensive TV
@@victinizz634 if the TV has HDMI 2.1 it's not cheap

Gears of War 2 is The Empire Strikes Back of the franchise. I love it! My favorite campaign by far.
Insanely under rated incredible game that I was too young and naive to fully appreciate when it came out
This game was the reason for the end of my first relationship and I have 0 regrets
My relationship was about to end because of Call of Duty. Cool
If she leaves because of a game then f**k her.
@@speedking7224 Not really. I love gaming, and if she leaves because you like to play a game a lot then yeah. But if you neglect your relationship and life for the game, then you have some issues to work out.
@@CaesarGB Yes but if she leaves just because of a video game which in no shape or form is affecting your marriage then that's on the woman's part
@@speedking7224 Yeah that is petty and definitely an issue on her part.
I think this is the first game to ever make me cry. Amazing combat, outstanding characters and a gripping story. Especially for the time.
Gears 3 Horde mode was peak franchise
What a freaking masterpiece, one of the greatest campaigns.
Fenix: "You are pissed today"
Dom: "You're DAMN right I'm pissed. I miss my FAMILY"
Not taken away Epic games sold the Gears of War IP to Microsoft because it was keeping expensive for them to develop new games. The Coliation is what happens when a dev team doesn't understand what made the series good in the first place
The GOAT. Only Gears where you can replenish Longshot ammo with ammo boxes.
1-Perfect atmosphere/OST
2-Perfect story/sound design
3-Perfect mechanics/MP
IMO.
Cole's "mommy don't let the bad man hurt us. F*** you!!!" Always makes me laugh.
Gears and halo 2 probably the best sequels ever
Me and my dad used to play this on co op all the time, good times
There’s needs to be a remastered in 120fps
I would buy a physical copy and download it! This is the series that made me fall in love with video games for the 2nd time in my life. The first series was Megaman!
I just replayed this GoW2 campaign on my 360 for the first time in over ten years. Epic masterpiece and still my favorite of the original trilogy.
God this brings back memories! I played the shit out of this game for YEARS! multiple campaign playthroughs, endless weekends playing horde with friends, sleepless school nights with matchmaking. It was truly an awesome game and I feel like after the OT gears era community gaming fell off.
What a game this was!
I used to co op play this with my brother. We played through it so many times (solo and co op), it never got old. Simpler days.
I grew up on Halo and Gears. It’s absolutely my favorite game series ever with Halo as a VERY close second
Nothing but facts! It’s a disgrace they haven’t remastered it
What makes this game so memorable are the epic set pieces
Soundtrack and characters were amazing in the first one
You will never understand it if you weren't there, from the campaign, MP and horde, this game had it all, it is so sad to see what the franchise have become though
Gears 2 definitely puts in the WOW factor to keep players entertained
This game was freaking amazing, me and the boys lived for this. What made it so good was it took actual skill to be good in the multiplayer.
This game still looks top notch. I remember at the time nothing else came close to looking this good. it was mind blowing
Highly agree had a blast with this one horde was the best no constly being online
hands down my favorite Gears of War.
It was the first gears of War I had ever beaten. Me and my brother on co op. One of the best stories very emotional.
Gears 2 will always be my favourite campaign of any game, I remember being blown away the first time playing it
Playing Wingman on BloodDrive with my cousins are some of my fondest gaming memories ever. GET TORQUE'D
Gears 2 is easily one of the best scores in gaming.
I remember first playing it, went over to my buddy's to spend a night and from there on it was history
The enemy variety in the game it's so many new enemies
This is one of my favorite games of all time and definitely favorite of the series.
Cliff used to be a big name in the games industry before he lost his mind. Hopefully the next GoW game won't be a let down like Gears 5, which isn't even a Gears Of War game from the beginning sadly...
The whole reason I got a 360 was for gears of war 2 😂 I still remember running around costco with my cousin, pretending to chainsaw everything I saw. Ah! Some of my greatest memories 😢
The ending of this game was mind blowing, that last cutscenes still memorable
I spent endless hours with this game Damm miss god old days 😪
Playing this game on insane is a truly terrifying and exhilarating experience
Life is different after you bounce off a wall and pop a head as your gun is dropping or golf someones head off into bodying their homie like it was a combo
We need a Pendulum Wars spin off game!
Awesome video brother!! Great work!! 100% agreed with every single point!!
Back then we didn’t have fabricators and currency for upgrades for horde mode, we had limited ammo and a few boomshields. Good times.
I would say Gears of War 3 had the best Horde experience to date
That gnasher was a beast is all ima say
I remember when my brother and I got Gears of War 2 our Xbox decided to get that beautiful red ring.
The Original Trilogy was a full complete story.
I miss this game so much it was my most played on my 360
Tell you what man dang ol great video man tell you what
Thumbs up for the Cole Train's epic speech in Gears of War 2!
I personally prefer gears 3 but that's coz I grew up with it and I loved the raams shadow dlc but I love gears 2 as well
especially the trailer the last day omg i love watching that trailer, one of my favs
I am so happy someone is finally appreciating gears 2
I miss 2007 to 2013. Great game days..
I got a commercial right as Tai pulled the trigger lmao what bad timing.
The multiplayer was pretty broken and frustrating garbage, but the campaign and horde are masterful. Some of the best in gaming
This video is awesome bro!! Ima sub to man✊🏾
There's about 15 games I play every five years and this is one of em'.
I sat through the whole video with tears in my eyes accompanied by goosebumps all over my back. Totally agree with everything you've mentioned, Gears 2 was an Excellent sequel, indeed. But what's most important is that Gears 2 is a Stunning Gears sequel that has aged like fine wine, remaining The best Gears sequel to this very day.
It's a game that brought me emotions so intense & so powerful it's awe-inspiring just to think of & recall them in my memory.
Thank you sincerely for this video. It was a truly well made essay.
I played gears of war 1 on my xbox elite back in 2008 but sadly never finished it. Till this summer, when I was on a medical leave for couple of months, so I bought XBOX series X and I finished all 5 gears of war games in one week, one after another. And I must say, I never had so much fun, some of them I played co-op with my coworker and some I played solo. But still, I had so much fun with them. Can safely say, it's one of the best gaming franchise ever. Hope they release gow6 soon :D
Also when you enter the hollow, there was that added mystery of what the hell was happening down there as you were seeing locusts killing each other.
Gears of war 2 for me will always have a special place within me.
Has a GOW fan, 2 has been and will always be my all time fav
My best game of all time♥️
