P242A Fault - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) B1 S3 Fix VW Golf VI MK6 1.6 TDI CAYC

Intermittent fault bringing on a glow plug light on the dash. Renewed the sensor. Bank 1 Sensor 3.

Surprisingly I have a 2013 passat tdi and this looks similar to my engine bay I have to change mine as well with the new one you installed what is the location of that sensor ?

It's at the back of the engine near the dpf. Just follow the cable down.

Wrong sensor mate will burn out in no time there's two types of DPF for these cars as some DPS get hotter than others yours is like mine it gets very hot that is why there is a shield around the actual sensor get the part number off your old sensor is the best way they are not cheap mine was £120+vat

So I got that one directly from the parts supplier instead of just getting a random one off eBay was £130 Inc vat. Been in the car a couple months now so far ok but they have made mistakes in the past. If it burns out within the year I can always return it so I'll see what happens

Unplug the sensors one by one and check with your code reader which one shows up as disconnected

I can't remember off hand but easiest way is to unplug the sensors one at a time and check the codes

Where is this same sensor located in a Golf MK7. Is it the brown or black sensor, as the brown is after and black is before?

So I unplugged the sensors with the computer plugged in so it would flash up a code for which sensor was disconnected.

Flashes glow plug, sometimes you can see check engine. Nothing else, you can drive. I have same problem.

@@smutnychlopczyk2947there is a risk of FAP not re-generating if ECU know sensors are faulty. So I wouldn't drive too much like that (or at least don't do too much short distance travels)

I'm sure there's 4. I had to find the faulty one by unplugging them individually and checking the fault codes
