Hi everyone, I stopped studying architecture about 3 months in (there's a whole separate video about that on my channel) and please bare in mind I made this video 3 years ago! Please can I ask that you stop emailing/messaging me asking for portfolio advice etc. If you have any queries the best people to ask are the course leaders you are directly applying to. Good luck everyone :)
I've been trying to find out what i needed to put in my portfolio cause I did not take a level art and it stressed me a lot. But now this video calmed me down so much and I finally have ideas on how I can show my personality to them, thanks
This is so incredibly helpful! I'm applying for graphic design and am currently collating my protfolio, and all the videos I've found about it have just stressed me out. I love that 'my street' piece, and it's given me some inspiration on what sort of stuff to include, although we're obviously applying for different courses! Congratulations on all your offers!
I feel so much better about starting my portfolio! Before I watched your video, I was so terrified of starting to make mine to apply to college. It really isn't as scary as I thought it was! You helped me a lot! Thank you!
oh man that was so helpful. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with the whole process right now and seeing how simple but elegant you put together your portfolio makes it seem way more accessable
Omg you are a life saver thank you so much! I'm applying for Architecture and Interior architecture and I have struggled so much with trying to figure out what kind of drawings and projects to put into my portfolio. This was really helpful and actually inspired me so now I shouldn't have anymore problems with what to put in it!! So thank you very much Jess!!! :)
Hi xXSakuraLpXx! I do all sorts of videos on my channel where I’m sharing tips for architecture students! I think they can be quite useful for you!! Have a look and let me know what you think ❤️
Hey there, just I wanna know how many years students with associates degree to take at university to get their bachelors degrees, thank you for helping
good luck with your studies :) We didn't have to send something like this. I've finished my studies and got my own practice now (I'm 30). Sometimes I work as professor Assistant and I can tell you when we get portfolios probably the logo design you did is the most interesting. You should focus mostly on things that show your creativity, as skill can be learned and most know it anyway. So advice to all the young ones: Show only your best work,. show creative stuff that interests you. Professors and unis wanna see inovation and creativity, not what everyone has done before. sending in your minecraft and SIMS houses is actually a good idea!
My biggest take away from your video was your places that inspired you page. Designing your portfolio, immediately people know to start gathering all their previous artwork but I didn't even think to add something like that, which you have. Great thinking outside the box idea. I'm definitely going to use that for my portfolio.
This really just saved my life. Im applying to Pratt University & I plan on majoring in architecture, they asked me to submit a portfolio but didnt explain to much on what it should include. Thank you so much & congratulations on your progress.
This was such a helpful video honestly! I'm preparing my portfolio and had no idea what I should, but after watching this video it's so much easier preparing it
This is a really helpful video thank you a lot! I've started on my portfolio to send off and I just needed tips on how to do this. I am actually applying for Architecture at Lincoln so this is really useful
This video was extremely helpful. Basing on it, and some other ideas I was able to create quite a successful portfolio. It got me an unconditional offer in spite of that I didn't meet some other requirements, like my extended maths grade or one low IELTS component in writing (5.0). Here are universities I've applied onto (all K100 Architecture): Newcastle University (firm, unconditional) De Montfort University (insurance, unconditional) Coventry University (conditional, declined by me) University of Plymouth (conditional, declined by me) University of Strathclyde (unsuccessful, applied by UCAS Extra - no vacancies left) Thank you so much for helping me :)
Im having a mess in my mind because i want to make a portfolio to apply for a job. But this video is fixing my problems. I will use your portfolio structure to create others titles and organizations. Thnks a lot.
Yes this was super helpful, thank you very much! After watching this it helped me imagine what i could do myself that suits me and made my ideas flowing through smoother my brain, if this makes any sense! Lol Thanks a lot girl, good luck in your future! xoxo
I've just applied to my unis and Sheffield still had the exact same "my street". Gonna be gone it's one of my least favourite pieces I've ever made but I've got a conditional and looking around next week
@Daniel Holmberg It would be very helpful if you could let me know which university I have been thinking of applying to Norway but I can't find a university whose medium of Instruction is English. If you could reply it would be of great help!
Heyy i'm confused, i'm doing my A levels right now but i did not take any art subjects. I'm studying science and maths but I wanna study architecture so is that a problem ?
I have done the same thing and even did my first year of uni in science and math and have not taken anything art related since middle school. But I applied to switch into architecture and got into the interview stage anyways! You just need to be able to show that you have some creative abilities and will most definitely have to show a portfolio like this one to get in. My suggestion is that if it's not too late to take some art and history courses but if you can't it's not the end of the world, just make sure you start creating some artwork in your free time to add to your portfolio!!
I'm a good boy, hey, I was in a similar position too. I didn’t study art in A level, though I did in GCSE. From what I know, it depends on each university, though from my particular university choices, they only prefer (not require) you to have sat Art in A levels, or if your taking a Gap year, to complete Art courses to strengthen your illustration & design skills.
So in these portfolios, you can submit any kind of art piece? Like if you have some old pieces of art you made, you can just put them together in the portfolio to basically give a resemblence on how your creative thinking work?
Jess, update on how's it going? I'm only year 10 (9th grade bc US) but I'm looking into architecture. I've heard it's stressful but it gets easier later.
If you're like me and you're trying to get into a design or architectural school and so you do not have any of the software like Illustrator, Indesign, or Canvas, I've been using Powerpoint and it works great. Side note: It's funny how some want you do create your portfolio using the software mentioned above...even though you're applying to that school/program hoping to learn that software. Funny and slightly ridiculous.
This is was so helpful thankyou! And well done on getting your offers:) am applying for architecture this year too and currently working on portfolios. Would u say it’s imperative to include development work? Xx

I know I'm not the person you're asking but Ive heard that quite a lot or architects use sketch up so having some sort of knowledge of it will probably help you a lot
Hey Jess Louise. I believe you're done with Architecture school now. Maybe you're preparing for your masters. Very informative video. Best wishes out there.

So a Sims based portfolio, would'nt look bad on me? I'm also into fashion, and have a few images of some bold outfits I put together. Do you think those would be good additions into my creative portfolio?
How did you scan in your sketchbook work? Did you simply take a photo of the page or use a traditional computer scanner thing? I appreciate this video immensely!
