- We remove rust from a pair of steel tin snips with 10:1 solution of water and hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid from walmart).
Quick and easy rust removal and faster than vinegar soak.

That yellowish rust that was on the shears after you got the rust off is due to the acid causing further corrosion. It needs to be neutralized to stop that from happening. And make sure you never leave an open container in your garage with strong acid or even a tray with an acid solution. The vapors that come off the solution will cause everything around it to rust. Don't ask how i know... lol.
To neutralise, add baking soda until it doesn't react
Overnight is faster than vinegar? Um ok, if you say so.

It's called flash rust. It happens when you let it sit for a day or so.
