My husband is a concrete foreman. I love watching these videos to kind of get an idea of what he does sometimes. They are commercial so they do really large jobs, but again, love watching videos. Tough job, hard on the body especially tying rebar.
Terrafuse is hard to get in the United States. Easier to find something similar at a nearby concrete business. Terrafuse actually suggested I tear out my steps and pour new. It wasn’t anything near the disrepair from this project or other projects I’ve seen on UA-cam.
Since you had so much room after the jackhammer, could you have jammed a few more rebar in there just to be safe? I have a very similar situation with my driveway.
wow! the rebar broke? When i see those cracks is because the slab was not reinforced or it only had wire mesh. But i see you had rebar. I guess it needed more reinforcement since the beginning...
My driveway slab has been destroyed because of tree roots. I going to use one of you methods and products to repair the cracks (that are bad) but first I will take a trencher and cut the roots a foot before the driveway slab. The tree needs the roots to stay up so don't just cut a circle around the tree and expect the tap root to hold it up, particularly if it's old growth top root like an oak or some maples. This would be a good suggestion, I think, for people that want to plant trees or keep trees near a foundation or slab. The roots will win, so be smart. Do without the trees.
Very nicely done work. Your videos are quite instructional. Does this product require any special post application water or spray or covering to cure properly? I didn't hear that topic on the other videos in this series.
Looks good! Does the product sold on Amazon work the same as this? Can you use the amazon product as a skim coat for a pitted garage floor, or would the be another product? I notice you do a broom finish almost every time. Does this trowel well to a flat finish, or does it not hold up as well that way? THANKS!
Yes, it is the same material, and yes, it can be used to fix a pitted floor. The product does trowel out well, but it has no self leveling properties, so it will stay however you leave it with the the trowel. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to trowel it dead flat. Thanks!
I have old exposed aggregate stairs in the front of my house. There are deep cracks going up the sides of the stairs can I use TF structural to repair the top and sides of the stairs or do I need to have them torn out and refinished?
Depends on the job really, but this material isn’t flexible, and isn’t ideal for crack repair, unless special techniques are used, similar to this video.
Yes, you can use a bit less part B to make it stiffer, but on such a shallow slope, it shouldn't be a big concern. You don't want it so dry that it becomes unworkable. Thanks
You can try that, or a method like this: ua-cam.com/video/o5UYlJmKhAE/v-deo.html What is the final finish you are attempting? If its in a garage, I would suggest fixing the crack, and then doing this: ua-cam.com/video/YLx_3XbdspE/v-deo.html
Can I pour concrete between my front porch and my front step where the old expansion joint was? The joint is a 1” wide and about 5” deep? I was going to fill it with sand and then the self leveling sealant. What do you think?
How does this product last through freeze thaw cycles? I live and service an area that has a lot of snow in the winter. I’m also curious how well the overlay holds up through freeze thaw cycles in the northwest.
Can this product (or some other) go over asphalt? I was searching for concrete overlays and stumbled on your videos. Seems likely to be cheaper than adding another 4" of concrete on my driveway.
Absolutely love the video. I was wondering, do you think this would work inside of a garage where the floor has sunk (instead of expensive floor jacking)?
Mine garage for was sink from one side quite 3 inch and I just lay on existing floor concrete mix with concert glue and it is fine then on top just put self leveling and it turn out be fantastic. Make sure your buy a lot bad depend on area and mix with extra water like little runny it would be easy to spread. But make sure done it in one job this way you will get slope level to wards drain. Good luck
How would a driveway with shallow spalding need to be prepped before a skim coat like the one you do at the end? Wondering if this could realistically be done with the TF material and a couple trowels/finishing brush by a homeowner after consulting your videos
Its not easy if you have never done something like it, but if you go pad by pad, it is possible. Here is a video for how to prep concrete ua-cam.com/video/aCK3hjHAjXU/v-deo.html Thanks!
It is similar to concrete with where it will hold up. Harsh industrial environments, with lots of chemical exposure are not ideal. You can still use it for structural repairs, but will need to protect it with a coating afterwards, depending on the environment. It can handle pressure washing, but doing it often will shorten the lifespan.
Hi, I have a outside stair way that is made of block. Over the yrs other owners have skimmed it with some sort of concrete material that is now starting to peel off. I realize that I will need to remove all of it but what I would like to know is how effective is TF on block surfaces and are there any tips on the best way to apply it? Thanks in advance.
It is not the best, as it is very rigid material, and designed to cover solid substrates. Block substrates will have movement between each block, and eventually crack through. If you pour it around 2” thick, you may be ok, like the attached video. Essentially pouring a new stair set over the old one. ua-cam.com/video/NtXyXM_gjGs/v-deo.html
The surface can be damp, and you don't want to do it while it's actually raining. Those lower temperatures are no problem, you can even do it below freezing, but need to use different procedures, and use our TF Heat additive to speed up the cure time.
Hard to say, it depends on your area, and what the contractor's overhead is. Something like this would be at least $900 around here, as the minimum charge to rip it out and replace it would be much more!
Yes, a shipment was sent to them weeks ago, they are just backlogged right now, should be available there any day now. How much do you need? You can also buy directly from us, the shipping just gets very expensive.
Just to be sure . Are you using the same product to fill the crack as you are for spreading for the complete overlay or is it two different materials ? We just had a sidewalk poured and it cracked . They tried spreading just cement over it and that cracked a swell plus it leaves a dark ugly section Using this for a complete overlay would make everything the same color and fix the crack correctly
No. Also its the wrong and COMPLETELY unnecessary impractical procedure. Take a 4 inch angle grinder with archer crack chaser blade (LINK g.co/kgs/7794UF) and then fill with 100% silicone exterior calking using odorless mineral spirits for clean up and wal ah. The guy wants to sell you his copy cat ardex material amd stear you away from what works better and costs less. Dont buy his junk, buy either ARDEX or MOPEI instead. They are national brand name products.
We sell this product direct, but it’s geared towards contractors, and we have a 20 bag minimum. How much do you need? We are also working to put a DIY version into Amazon warehouses, which should be available in the next few months. Thanks
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just saw cut out the cracked slab at the control joint and the front of the step and just pour a new piece after making sure it’s on sound, compacted road base.
OMG This video was hard to watch. The only positive thing is it looks nice now but that's it. It should've been repaired correctly. This is just a bandaid fix. Done by a pure amateur.
@@TerrafuseInc Why not cut out the slab find out what caused the crack then built up the base with a good mixture of base course then put in expansion board on the 3 sides to allow for expansion and contraction for hot and cold weather, reinstall the rebar or wire depending on how much stress it will be under, then pour the slab???

Please visit our channel for other videos. Thanks!
Are there any sealers that you put on after so the water repels and doesn’t soak into the pores?
Nope, none required 👍
In the video you say you add 30 per cent dry aggregate. I am thinking for crack filler the aggregate should be small. What aggregate do you use?
about and 8-10mm pea gravel works fine.
Would you recommend the same method to repair a similar type of (but longer) crack in a garage floor in Toronto, Canada (hot summers, cold winters)?

Concrete won’t bond to concrete, and if you fill an expansion joint, it will eventually crack out.

No, unfortunately asphalt is too soft and flexible, and the overlay will spider crack over time :(

please just search TF Structural in amazon, and you will see it come up. Are you in the US? You can go as thick or as thin as you need to. Thanks!
can this product be used after leveling with a poly level type product?
Yes, just make sure to grind the self-level, so it has some porosity to bite into.

The rebar was severed. How is this not going to crack again without the rebar?
The rebar is not what prevents the crack. If the ground is not solid, rebar will not prevent the settling that caused this crack.
