I agree Donnie, it takes time to get the feel of working trowels! A point I did try to highlight in the video, is that even if the finish isn't worked perfectly flat, the broom can help smooth everything out.
If you paid for it you wont like it in 6 months. He put a band aid on bigger issues. That crack will be back as soon as you put a car on it. There is no way a topping can deal with the transfer of weight between the slab sections. If the 6" concrete slab broke, a 1/8" topping has no chance.

So... wouldn't chasing cracks out with grinder and then using the crack repair epoxy and sand technique before overlay minimize cracks returning? The liquid epoxy should flow deep into crack to better stabilize the two opposing sides of a crack.
Yes, there are multiple ways you can address the crack, all of which cost time and money. This customer was not concerned with it, and this is not why they had their driveway resurfaced.

I've been resurfacing concrete for 20 years and couldn't even dream of getting $8 per square foot here in AZ. Are you just doing some concrete repairs, and leaving it, or covering it with a coating after? How thick are you going? Some details will help me answer 👍
Would you recommend epoxy and smoothing that crack with a grinder before the top-coat? I feel like that stuff is just going to crack just like what’s underneath.
I've seen high pressure epoxy injection as a concrete structure repair - need special equipment. Something like this might work: www.amazon.com/PC-Products-72561-PC-Concrete-Anchoring/dp/B008DZ169S/ref=sr_1_21?keywords=epoxy%2Btube%2Bfor%2Bcaulking%2Bgun&qid=1561428110&s=gateway&sr=8-21&th=1
No, it won't just chip off. There is no need to apply a sealer, but if you want one, you will need to do some type of mechanical abrasion for the best bond, as the TF Structural cures very dense. A light sandblast, or heavy pressure wash would be needed, to give the sealer the best bond. Why are you looking to seal it after?
How long does that concrete material last before cracking or chipping away ? Do you apply any type of bonding agent in mix or on original concrete ?. I live in a very harsh winter climate, wondering if that would not hold up well in freezing Temps and snow Thanks Rich
it will wear out at about 1/8" every 15 years or so. We have lots of videos showing it years after installation, one as old as 11 years. It won't 'chip' away, and will only crack if the substrate below it cracks. No bonding agent is needed, it doesn't need to be 'glued' to the surface, it will chemically bond with concrete. It was designed and used extensively in Canada, so harsh winter environments is what it is made for. Thanks!
HI. MY BACK PATIO WAS POORED BE A ROOKY AND IS LOW IN THE TRAPPED CORNER OF THE HOUSE, I HAVE SINCE COATED IT WITH a XYLENE BACED STAIN.. Do I have to remove the stain before filling the low areas with this product. The first coat of the stain was mixed very loose so the stain soakes into the concrete. I don't think I can get it totally off..
Don't think you need to do this if concrete had rebars in it in the first place. It still will crack but only hairline cracks where the rebars keep it together. I resurface a few of times (small sections of driveways and bathrooms needed leveling), not as easy as it looks. This guy is good.
Nice technique. Other similar overlay products recommend or require hydrating the old surface before applying new material. What is different here? Like others I question going over the big crack without prep. Even if the customer didn't care, compressing a dry mix into that crack would minimize future erosion without a significant investment of time.
Also, other products are portland cement based, and require a hydration reaction to cure. It is very important the water stay in the material as long as possible during curing. TF Structural is not a portland cement based product, and does not cure this way. Hydrating the concrete before installation is still recommended, especially with thinner overlays, and on hotter/drier days. This will help with working time, spreadability, and overall finish.
How long does it last before it starts cracking and chipping off the original concrete, what was the prep on the concrete, sandblasted pressure washed acid wash or a primer.
The crack may come back at any point, but it will usually show through only as a hairline crack. Usually larger temperature shifts will cause the crack to return. The overlay will last as long as the concrete underneath. It will not chip or flake off. It does not use any primers, and does not rely on primers to 'glue' it to the surface. TF Structural will chemically and mechanically bond to the concrete it is installed on.
The recommended prep is mechanical abrasion (diamond grind, sand/shot blast). The goal is to have a clean, solid, porous surface, and the TF Structural will bond to it. Pressure washing will work, but if the concrete is newer, grinding is recommended to ensure any surface sealers are completely removed.
@HONESTO UNO What experience do you have to know so much about the products longevity? Have you been on jobs that were installed 5 years ago and have data to support what you are saying? Do tell, as I am sure we would all like to know about your vast knowledge and experience in this , and other repair mortars. Get out of your mom's basement and get some sun.
I noticed you said "cracks come back". So you resurface this just to have a big crack come back? This product looks really good and I would love to use it just would like a further explanation of " the crack coming back". Thank you
This is a very rigid material, going over a rigid substrate. A thin layer will not prevent a large slab underneath from moving, this is why cracks will reflect through. There are many ways to address cracks before overlaying the substrate, to help prevent them from returning. We have a video on one method, and will be releasing more soon. Thanks
You can wet the concrete before applying TF Structural too, but it is not essential. This product is very different than other overlays. I suggest you read our data sheet found on the website for more info. Thanks!
Thumbs up for the product and double thumbs up for the skills! I have a crapy concrete patio that was done by some newbie and it looks very hideous. I think the concrete was mixed with too much water or sand that it chips off easily on its surface. Would this product solve my issue?
This job was scarified, and then they used a diamond grinder. If the concrete is free from sealers and oil/grease, and heavy pressure wash will work fine. You just want clean, sound, porous concrete. Thanks!
Currently, we don't have any in Texas, but there is product stocked in Atlanta. Right now, it is not sold in any box stores. Please give our office a call to determine the best way to get you materials. Thanks!
Hello there do you guys sell the products? I'm wondering if this Product Permanently bonds with the existing concrete or if it creates a coating over the concrete that can chip over time?
Yes, proper prep is always important. As far as wetting the surface, this is almost always required with portland cement based toppings. Our product does not use portland cement. When using TF Structural, you can wet the surface to help increase your working time, and make the product easier to work with, especially on hotter or windier days. This step is not required though. Thanks
Previous home owner of my current home did something similar. After a few years now all the underlying cracks are coming through the resurfaced layer. Looks cool at first. But it's just a band aid In my opinion.
It is a band-aid if the contractor told them he was there to fix the cracks, and then applied a thin, rigid overlay to the surface. This is not how you fix cracks. As mentioned in this video, we were not at this job to fix this crack, and the homeowner was aware it will come back. Cracks will come through all cementitious overlays, as they are very rigid, and have no flexibilty. There are multiple methods to address cracks, and one can be seen in this video ua-cam.com/video/xvq0TXjMfeU/v-deo.html but again, this video was not about fixing cracks. Thanks

@@TerrafuseInc thank you for the information.
It will last as long as you dont drive your vheicle on haahhahaa
Thanks

Very nice. Thank you!
Pressure on the front of the trowel? The front is off the ground.
Can this be troweled to a polish burnished finish?
It is very difficult to trowel it out that smooth, but that would be for you to try!
Look good good job
This looks like an awesome product
Thanks Nate! :-)
Not sure what state you're in but up north, we have to wet the concrete before we do an overlay to get a solid bond
You can wet the concrete before applying TF Structural too, but it is not essential. This product is very different than other overlays. I suggest you read our data sheet found on the website for more info. Thanks!

So where do you buy or order this ?
I need to redo my garage floor.
The floor was never sealed, 1963 build.
It does get damp from underneath.
You can order directly from us. 1-403-243-3000
how long does it take this to lighten way up? like how regular concrete almost looks white after it cures?
after a couple weeks, it will get lighter. Lots of sunlight, and if it is exposed to water, will affect how fast it goes lighter.
Thumbs up for the product and double thumbs up for the skills! I have a crapy concrete patio that was done by some newbie and it looks very hideous. I think the concrete was mixed with too much water or sand that it chips off easily on its surface. Would this product solve my issue?
Thanks! It works great for that application! Just remove any loose concrete first 👍
Looked awesome... awesome teacher You are too.
Nice work brother
Thx man!
Let us know what type of restoration you would like to see next!
My wife.
She used to have long legs and big boobs. Now she has long boobs and big legs. 😂🤣
Will it hold in our freezing winters in minnesota?
Yes!

Can somebody help me by saying or give me a comment where can i get that product? Please
Please call our office. This product is intended for contractors though. Thx
This product is now available on amazon in smaller quantities. Thanks
Could I use that over a brick patio?
No, it will crack at every joint.
wow very clean
Can you mix a color into the overlay mix?
Yes, but it will fade over time, so you would want to seal it afterwards to keep the color vibrant.
if you park a car on top the cement doesn't break?
Nope!
Thanks for your fast response 👍🏼
Will you be able to add some color?
You can, but it will lighten substantially over time, and become quite faded. It really depends on the color (tans and greys work best)
awesome ! job.
What was done to prep the surface? It looks like it was sandblasted or something?
This surface had an old, failing topping on it, so it was first scarified, and then some 6" grinders were put onto it.
Do you mix this with water or does it have its own liquid?
Comes with its own liquid 👍
Can you use this product as a micro topping and could you add color to it ?
Thanks you already answered this question
I didnt hear how they cleaned the concrete first.
Pressure wash? Thanks
This job was scarified, and then they used a diamond grinder. If the concrete is free from sealers and oil/grease, and heavy pressure wash will work fine. You just want clean, sound, porous concrete.
Thanks!
Any distributors for this in Texas? Any box stores carry TF ?
Currently, we don't have any in Texas, but there is product stocked in Atlanta. Right now, it is not sold in any box stores. Please give our office a call to determine the best way to get you materials.
Thanks!
Hello there do you guys sell the products? I'm wondering if this Product Permanently bonds with the existing concrete or if it creates a coating over the concrete that can chip over time?
Hello, yes we sell the products 👍 It does form a permanent bond with the concrete, NOT a surface coating that chips off.
@@TerrafuseInc can you send me the link for this specific item please
Hello, if you go to Terrafuse.ca, just click into the product section, and this product is TF Structural.
Thanks
Do you ship to US?
Yes, we have locations in the US we can ship it to you from. I suggest you call our office, and we can figure out the best place to ship to. Thanks!
I was told to always clean the old concrete slab and wet before applying the new top coat. Your thoughts.
Thanks
Would it not help to have original surface wet?
Yes, it will assist on hotter days, or very porous concrete, but is not always necessary.
Thanks
Did you wash the driveway before you resurface it?
The driveway was mechanically abraded with a scarifier and then a diamond grinder.
What the reason for using this anyway.
The old slabs had a failing topping on them, that was removed. Customer needed a new surface.
@@TerrafuseInc This was notbin the video
Yes, I understand that, and thank you for your question.
