There also should be a bar that keeps the rear from hitting the seat as well. My grandson got hit and had a shock mount break and the rear came up and smashed the tailbone erea of the seat. That was with the seat raised 4". Awesome job Billy.
Great product, any help in this direction is appreciated….15 years in a Sprint Car, retired in ‘05. Back is beat to death! As you know, not if you flip, but when!! Way better than solid mount! Has to be!
Now they need to design something for the drag racing world. I just had my second back surgery in August , and neck surgery just this week. I was told I cannot drag race or any type of racing anymore because of my neck . It was hard pill to swallow. Glad you’re able to get back in your car.
Some of the issues are having the shoulder harness mounted too low, which can compress the spine when the belts tighten. NHRA has a great diagram showing the proper geometry for the belts. I was an SFI certified bronze level safety inspector for a local NHRA drag strip.
I refused to race in a road race series that REQUIRED the belts angle down over the shoulders. I worked for Bell/Pyrotect and was part of the team that did SFI certification along with teaching stunt men in Hollywood that relied on our equipment from car crashes to burns. I was called a know nothing idiot by the "voting members" of the series and told I wasn't welcome for advocating for many safety measures. That I was driving up costs. What does a broken back cost? For me it was losing a ride that was supposed to lead to a seat in Trans Am.
Correct me if I’m wrong, so the seat moves, and makes your seatbelts tight or loose on impact. My honest opinion, you need to make a poured seat like a drag car, much better than a lightly padded metal seat. Proper support all around your body will prevent broken bones. Not just a piece of metal called a seat.
They went to seat pours and molded seats that fixed the body like we do in the sprint car world very lil issue anymore unless it was just a violent wreck which it doesn't matter we could have all the safety equipment in the world an still get hurt cause there i zero tech in the dirt world about this stuff I go off of fia and NASCAR for the angle for the belts coming off the shoulder but I've seen belts going uphill off you're shoulder to a bar an I've seen them going like a foot below the shoulder if you don't want to get hurt you need to properly install them casm is a company that shows this product to parent with kids coming into racing getting them to buy them but I have not seen one thing from a crash test facility showing that it would truly be any less of a hit than it being solid mounted
So when you crash you want youre seat to compress down while youre belts dont move so move power to you if you want to b loose in the seat when you crash and no not very many sprintcar guys have them for the reason i just stated if you race any kind of motorsport you have to know an accept that you may not get back out of the car us sprintcar guys use sharp for seat inserts or we have we have a pour ian mold done you get hurt cause they can never form a metal seat around you like they can with i density foam that does give but fits to every nook and crany on youre body keeping you from moving in the seat at all when in a wreck

My back is still screwed up after my wreck at the ridge in 2012 ! This seems like a great idea !!
Sorry to hear that! Hope things only keep improving

Great idea. Back aches suck.
Very interesting. Hope it works out for you.
We have the crash pad on the seat on our midget to help out..
These are short money to save your back
Excellent episode on safety!!. Thanks Billy and Mandee!. Keep the great content going 🏁...✌️
Anything for a dirt latemodel
I wonder how this would work for the monster truckers.

This is a huge step in the right direction. Too many drivers have paid the price of a solid mounted seat.
nice 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer .lol.
