Kenny, you are living what I call “The correct retirement Dream.” Its all about work because thats all we ever known. But the dream is fulfilled when the work is doing what you love on your timeline. Thats it! Well alright, if you know, you know. Love ya Kevin
I retired almost 2 years ago. A retired friend of mine told me when you retire you have to have something to do. I'm living "The correct retirement dream" too.
I retired in 2020 and am living the same dream as Kenny, but with a smaller budget and a LOT less talent haha We poured the slab for my dream shop last Thursday and the steel building arrives next Monday. By budget, I mean that I don't have a single CAR that costs as much as that motor and I am doing the electrical, plumbing, framing, drywall, etc for the interior buildout.
This isnt merely a retirement dream. This is just the dream life for any normal person. Everyone should strive to set up a race car, the world would be a better place for it.
Kenny brother, I'm a 4th generation racer, and there are few drivers in all of motorsports that i have as much respect for as you. i grew up watching you race both nascar and dirt, and have always been a fan. I have watched you race at my home track(Quincy Illinois) and numerous other tracks countless times, and even when you're racing against some close friends I still have always cheered for you. love what you do, and your love and dedication to the sport.
You shouldn't have to apologize for anything. Even if you bought all your things with "NASCAR" Money it's still something YOU worked for. You are one of the most humble people I know you deserve everything you have because of all the sacrifices you gave over your career how many days you were on the road without your family because you were out there putting in the work so that your wife and kids could have a good life. You probably have the money to buy the great big semi with the biggest stacker trailer money can buy but you don't. I'm soo happy you get to do something you love because of the hard work and dedication you have people need to watch some of your older videos or watch the one you did with Stapleton and talked about only being able to afford one meal a day while you and your brothers worked on your car's keep being you Wallace because a world with you in it is something special good luck on your season sir.....
Kenny I grew up watching you race and I'm glad to see you keeping up with the tradition of racing you are always going to be one of the amazing people that make the sport what it is Thank You Again !!!
Kenny I feel very fortunate that I get to watch and hear you talk about these things now in my life that I’m grown up and a huge dirt fan. You were running nascar when I was young and to see all of this now when I’m an adult and understand what your doing for fun and loving life just makes me so happy inside. Your a great man and a very big motivator. Thank you for everything you have been doing to educate everyone who has no clue what dirt racing is all about. If im lucky enough I’d just like to shake your hand one day and say thank you.
I helped crew on a Northeast Big Block Modified , I remember back in the 90's our engines were from the famous Jack Tant of Littleton NC and they weren't cheap $35,000 back then , but they made some serious power. Good luck racing this season Mr. Wallace.
I grew up watching Rusty race ASA in Cincinnati, Winchester, and some other places. In fact, my Son raced 1/10th scale r/c and we always had either a Rusty Wallace (2,27) bodied car and a Darrell Waltrip (Tide car) body. I didn't think much of your NASCAR commentary but oh well. I'm glad to see you carrying on the racing tradition. There was a time when I complained of your "high dollar" operation, but in the end you earned it. Am I jealous of your shop? Hell yeah. I'm glad you have put out some of the prices involved in racing and explained some of the technical side. Thanks for the video and I hope you have a good year. If you ever race at Florence and need some help, my Son would be glad to help you. Just contact me!
Do NASCAR team owners team up with Big Block modified teams sending them test motors? In turn if they win portion of the win goes to team owner. If engine fails they send it back so they can investigate sounds like a win win just curious. Enjoy your input Txs
Really liked this video. But what I don’t like is how people think just because he was a Nascar driver, that he didn’t work his tail off to get there? Most of these guys that raced nascar when Kenny raced were not the owners family? These guys worked countless hours with sub par equipment most of their life. Look how humble Kenny is when he talks about the local driver….. He was that guy. Thanks for you who you are and for making these type videos Kenny! I don’t like how negative people can be when the local driver actually makes it in the big show. How about being happy for somebody instead of jealous! Love it Kenny!
Kenny was so nice, I was 13 years old and I met him in the pits at a dirt track in Antioch ,Ca. He was yakkin it up with a bunch of guys and I wedged my way into the circle of men and he stopped talkin , looked down at me and said “HEY LIL BUDDY HOWS IT GOIN!” We took a picture and he signed my dirty ass (Shaw racing chassis) t-shirt. … I never washed it and had that shirt hanging on my bedroom wall until I became an adult. - I’ll never forget the way he stopped talking to 15+ grown men about that nights race just to make sure I was noticed… thanks for the great memory Kenny- even though it was only 3 minutes of your time. That moment has stayed with me for the past 18 years
Kenny I just singed my 7 year old grandson SON to a kart team out of mass we live in VT state I loved watching you race and enjoyed you calling races it cost a lot to race anyone doing it knows that you should never apologize for your success you have earned all that your able to get love the talks lol
You're absolutely right Kenny we changed the oil weekly after running Friday and Saturday nights the cheapest maintenance you can do. Hope you make it to Lincoln, Ill again this year I haven't seen the schedule.👍🇺🇸🤙
Congrats on 50K!! Engines aint cheap. Back in the early 90's my "stock" engine I had built Buy Total Seal East ran me @ $6k which is a drop in the bucket compared to what you and other spend. After my wallet seized up and I stopped racing due to crazy costs involved and no increase in winnings, I sold all my stuff. And ended up spending a few seasons working on a friends Pro Stock that was mainly raced at Lee Speedway here in NH. This was @ 97-98 and he rented Rousch engines. They were sealed engines and I dont recall what he paid for rent , but he did tell me that if either of the seals ever got broken he would have to write a check to Rousch for $55k. Rousch really didn't want anyone looking inside those engines. My dad used to tell me that his cousin Olen Runion in Decatur Ill used to build engines for your buddy Schrader early in his career.
Kenny you are the man!! I love listening to your stories!! I'm from North Carolina and raised by used to be my neighbor and you know him!! The good ol Jr Johnson and I used to sweep the shop as a teenager and been a racing fan for life and that's why I love your personality!! Keep staying Kenny and the hell with the haters!!
Great video you don’t need to apologize for anything but the fact that you do shows you are a person of appreciation and I appreciate that I love that you are still racing kind of like Dave Blaney I guess it never gets out of your blood and longtime dirt fans like me appreciate it!
Congratulations on your 50k+ subscribers. People like spending time watching videos when the person making them are real, and have a good personality. You are a straight shooter, informative, and always can make what ever you are talking about fun.
David Pearson's shop over in Spartanburg SC is just a little older than your shop and as I recall maybe bigger it don't matter a Garage is a good happy place for me. I'm usually no good at fixing the problem but I like it
I grew up with my uncle's tire shop directly across the street from John Utsman's race shop. Seeing this dirt car really takes me back to those days. The locals always hated Utsman because he hardly ever lost a race. My grandfather was his friend, and I was always so happy to sit in that car, as a kid. Thanks for the video, Kenny; takes me back to better days.
That's not a bad price for your motors. I spent 44K fir a motor when I drove dirt 28 years ago. It was the best investment I have ever had!!! Won 3 with it p2 5times and so on. My father still has that motor!
I use the work on a late model team in altamaha nc ( ace speedway) I believe Justin labonte was running mini stock at the time... anyway I guess the point I'm trying to make is people that see a nice garage, trailer and a couple race cars , think your rich... truth is their actually broke, living payday to payday , working late nights, just to hopefully lay down a good qualifying lap... or that second job you had to pick up just to replace the front clip you lost last weekend with 2 laps to go... the friends and volunteers that actually make it even remotely possible for you to even to do it in the first place... I won't even mention the wife and kids that never get to see you.... I have much respect for anyone who does this and still does. Thanks 4 sharing man, brought back a few memories.
Kenny. I grew up watching you race. I love to hear about your racing connections. I don’t know folks from when I was a kid. The racing world is such a tight bunch. Have a great racing season.
Thank you for sharing your experiences on your UA-cam channel. Don't stop your stories. I could listen to them all day. Hope your UA-cam channel goes over 400.000 subscribers and more. I really do enjoy your UA-cam channel!!
Thanks for explaining and teaching I love it. Spent a lot of my career calling on machine shops in the day they were everywhere rebuilding passenger car engines or were they motors? Then in order to do business with the Japanese we had to build all our products with the ability to last 100k miles without fail. Remember when every driveway had an oil stain?
You seem to be the same cat I met decades ago. I’m not a racer, always wanted to try but approaching 50, folks say I’m too old, and personally I don’t even know even where to start, I live in Chicago and the racing scene is tough enough. Can ya point me in a direction. Anyhow I really enjoy your videos, your shop and your attitude! Gracious, kind and proud as you should be. Looking forward to more of your videos!
Kenny, much respect! One big question - I am a Schaeffer Oil Rep and knowing how true you are to St Louis, why don't you run Schaeffer's Racing Oil, made in St Louis? Juss wondrin...>Love the channel, keep it up! THANKS
Finally somebody gave an educated and honest answer of what a SBC cost. Heads, valvetrain, and induction can easily swing $5000 to $25,000. Forged crank with balance can be $1000 from the Peoples republic or a $10,000 piece of billet steel jewelry from Callies or Winberg.
Really good explanation of how your so fast everywhere you race. Doesn't take a race team with 10 crew members to go beat their asses on any given weekend. Good luck this year Herm!
Grats on the 50K Kenny! I think I found you when you had like 10 or 12K and watched it grow pretty well. Honestly, I was enjoying being in what I thought was a small crowd, and I said at the time, well Kenny won't be lonely for long once people get to seeing what you're putting out here for us because you and Rusty, like a lot of other racers, are people just like like everyone else. I don't think I ever thought you didn't work on your stuff, you are just that kind of person that absolutely would work on his own car. And I'm also happy that "All that NASCAR money" has allowed you to do what makes you happy. that was kind of the point of doing it all in the first place, and I congratulate you for all your success. Truly mean it. So many people are consumed with envy, greed and as my 101 year old Grandma, who still lives at home on her own would say, "That's just ugliness" and to those people she would say "Just go on and git now" cause she wouldn't ever waste time on such foolishness. And then she would go pray for them because they need some fixin. Best of luck!!
Awesome video, love that you take so good care of your equipment. That’s what most racers don’t understand. Take care of you equipment, and your equipment will take care of you.
Ed here not Bonnie. My first time watching, and I'm hooked. I'm a Farmer and 45 year small time tractor puller. I thought your engine cost was reasonable. Even at our level of pulling a built diesel pulling engine is $50,000 built by a pro builder. I really like your down to earth attitude.
I met you late October of 1994. It was at a Nascar/toy show in Painesville, Ohio. My table was next to your the table that you were signing at, what a GREAT day. You signed my TIC hauler. I have been a fan ever since. I wish you all the best not in just racing but in life.
Thanks for giving us some real numbers Kenny, (things we otherwise wouldn't know but are VERY interesting !). It seems some things never change with engines (noticed your new mill has a BIG wet sump oil pan & you're running 50 weight oil. Smokey Yunick told me once that racing a wet sump is like sitting next to a coild rattlesnake. I guess dirt clods etc. would play hell on a dry sump belt.
I used Yard sale motors for a while. Had great success. Finally ended up with Gaerte. It was so nice to get a motor that you knew what was in it and had someone to talk to when you were in a pinch.
Not sure if you read these comments or not. But if you do, it would be cool to see you come to Memphis Missouri with Schrader for the fall specials. I would love to get some shots of you on the track. Then I can add you to my hall of dirt track drivers on the wall in my bar. Love the videos. Keep up the good work!
Hermmmm! I like the maintenance breakdown ya gave! Do more of that! Moving to modifieds this year so all new for me! Would like to see your maintenance program!
I always had tremendous of respect for you and rusty y’all are some damn good guys even though I never met yall . I’m hoping here about year or so getting me a late model I’m fixing to build a 350 4 bolt main I already got I can’t wait
herman you gotta get outta them imca mods and back into a late model! i got a good picture of you in a Rayburn hanging the LF damn near a foot off the ground just diggin! im sure it brought a smile to ole CJ face!
The best thing about the modified class is the tire rules you don't need a big money engine to be competitive sometimes it a disadvantage when it comes to spinning the tires Ken you're the man much love dawg
When I was about 10-12 years old David Pearson and some other old drivers were having a legends “race” at Spartanburg fairgrounds speedway to raise money for a potential nascar hall of fame we were hoping would be built in Spartanburg. Cotton owens bud Moore , James Hylton were all there - the race was kind of an exhibition and on the last lap piazza passed David Pearson (who wasn’t really racing hard it was to put on a show) needless to say the next year David showed up with a brand new car and a Fulton racing engine and he came early to put some laps down . I helped scrape mud off the bottom of the car after he practiced . The next morning the day of the race they decided to change the jets based on the weather or something. David was serious as a heart attack. He lapped the field and won convincingly - he told piazza and others afterwards that he was actually racing that time …. I’ll never forget it
Love it sir and you are the real deal. We love you and what you do, I admire all that you do, you are in the zone. Hang in there and change nothing. I bet if cup drivers were honest they would be jealous of where you are and what you do Herm. Rock on!
Herminator I watched your early carrer and you were always a character and thats a great thing, personality and skills, and im 60 and still follow you, just like the young guys like tony Stewart lol ,personalties make interesting viewing.Clay Milliken in NHRA,same deal and his youtube channels growing, people like drama but we also like humor and adventure so take us to the track, the places you eat after a race, celebrations and travel, its fun and beats the hell out of TV .
Kenny I have to THANK YOU and DALE EARNHARDT JR for SAVING MY LIFE. I was laying on my couch with covid getting sicker by the day. I had the tv on and listened to one of you podcast that you posted. You talked about how Dale ask about you and your wife. You told him that your wife was laying in bed and had covid. He told you to get her up and you did. That inspired me to get up, and sit and sleep straight up in my chair. At that time it took all I had to get that far. It took several days but each day I felt a little better. My wife had contracted covid at the same time and chose to go to the hospital. She passed March 5th of last year. I so wish she would have stayed home. From the time she was admitted she stayed in bed flipped from her back to her stomach. I believe she would still be with me if stayed home and took your advice. I wanted to let you know how thankful I am. If you could some day thank Junior for me also.
Kenny First time I met you was 20 years ago visiting LaJoie with Truckin magazine editor Kevin Wilson doing a photo shot with you, Sprague front of you brothers hanger. Love your show.
Started racing back in 1969.....Have not raced in a LONG time BUT..... back when I was active and trying to learn from Everybody that I thought knew anything I got some of the Best advice I ever got from an old guy at Montgomery.... I was asking him all kinda questions about his motor and trying to find out his " Speed Secrets" When he stopped me in mid question and said" Hell boy, on these short tracks is aint ABOUT the motor.... Tune your Chassis and gain 100 Horsepower!!" True then and true now. Best advice I ever got.
Great video awesome job. I have a Mullins motor and a 604 I change oil every Monday after a weekend of racing I know how you feel I do all my work myself. Keep digging.
thanks for the great videos, keep them coming, look forward to seeing you during summer nationals, maybe a few races at Macon Speedway, and seeing your Nascar show at Gateway in June
Herman love that you are old school !!! In this day not many shoes can wrench their own cars !!! Love your channel ! Cheers ( cause I know you have a beer after wrenching all day😂)
Very good... Wow you've gained 114,000 subscribers since this video was added... Including me. Hell yea Herminator!!! Thank you looking forward to future videos.
Awesome Kenny Wallace. I was there in Volusia County in 2012 when you won 3 modified races. That was cool. Remember Dirt is for racing and asphalt is for getting there. 😂. Hope you win 1st place to quote Kenny Schrader alot this season. Best of luck
the places you are racing & the size of the track really determine how much motor you really need... some trucks in the deep south modifieds really don't have a bunch of motor rules & that's what makes it cool to me

Kenny,
Big fan. I raced for 14 years and really miss it. I'm a 68yo retired cop from just south of Little Rock Arkansas.Steve King
Congratulations on 50K! That's a damn good looking race car Kenny.
Thank-you for sharing Kenny, From Australia. used to race speedway but retired now!! good onya mate ! stay safe friend!!
Pretty impressive to get your whole team to shuffle so quietly behind Charlie during the 360 shot 😂 Thanks for the video.
haha, we played!

I like that you don't apologize for your success and you live life bouncing off the limiter!
I think he keeps the limiter on edge.
I could hang with Kenny all day. He is that guy! Haha he is living his best life like we all be doing!
@@jordanhannah5839 ,As could I, but I would have to help work on the car, I'm a gear head
Great video and really enjoy you sharing your knowledge with the regular folks!
Just because he has “NASCAR” money, doesn’t mean he has to spend it like he’s got Penske money. Spend it foolishly and he won’t have it for long.

Working on the dirt car is the greatest therapy ever known to man 💪👌🙌
Thanks for the tour Kenny, work for a speed shop part time, enjoy the atmosphere and been around racing my whole life! keep on trucking!

Congratulations on 50000 subs, love your no bs attitude, you the real deal Kenny
Love watching this from Cape Town, need to make a trip to come check you out sometime,!!
Kenny loads of respect,I enjoy your Chanel, and your Honesty. Happy St. Patrick’s Day
your transparency is so inspiring. Love you up here in Peoria, ILL :)
Really good explanation of how your so fast everywhere you race. Doesn't take a race team with 10 crew members to go beat their asses on any given weekend. Good luck this year Herm!
Love you Kenny. Thank you for your UA-cam channel and I always respect your prospectives.
Thanks for sharing that information. It was interesting. You worked hard and deserve what you have and do.
Love Jegs and love Kenny's comments. Just bought a new high torque starter and parts for the 57 Chevy - delivered in 2 days- awesome.
I enjoy the shop time videos. You’ve got a really nice shop. Have fun runnin’ that “ole dirt car” this year.👍
You can spend as much as you want on whatever you want. Some of the kart engines we use are sometimes upwards of 8-10k for a open.
Hi Charlie. Your all good people. Small Town racing. Down to earth. It does not go unnoticed. Thank you from Belews Creek, NC.
Keep up the great work, Herm! Charlie, too! I hope to see you at the track!
I’ll never forget it
Thank you Kenny for the info. I have always loved watching you race and your you tube thingy. (Bahahaha). Great stuff and much respect!
Love these videos.
Can you show how you clean your race car after a dirt races?

@@KennyWallace36 thanks for the link! That is a great video too.
Your the man Herman, love these videos. Wish I could watch you race but I'm located on the east coast (PA) maybe some day. God bless you .
Love it sir and you are the real deal. We love you and what you do, I admire all that you do, you are in the zone. Hang in there and change nothing. I bet if cup drivers were honest they would be jealous of where you are and what you do Herm. Rock on!
Nice to know about the motors. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Rusty loved springs and shocks. locked them up in a safe right after a race. Kenny, love the energy.
You have worked for what you have and do. Enjoy watching the podcasts. Keep it up. Thanks.
I have always had great respect for the Wallace boys
If you could some day thank Junior for me also.
that’s awesome!
Kenny First time I met you was 20 years ago visiting LaJoie with Truckin magazine editor Kevin Wilson doing a photo shot with you, Sprague front of you brothers hanger. Love your show.
Do you still have your Truck. Randy told me he rebuilt his engine in his chevy.
Thanks
As the title says I worry about hearing myself talk then I worry about motor costs, neat, swell nice to promote junk jegs, signed fellow track mate
Read on Herman you couldn’t explain it any better awesome keep up the good work and keep enjoying. Love you man.❤️🏁🏁
I love how u keep it real! Keep up the good work and being REAL.
thanks for the great videos, keep them coming, look forward to seeing you during summer nationals, maybe a few races at Macon Speedway, and seeing your Nascar show at Gateway in June
I'm impressed; a mechanic, a driver and a great story teller...not just another pretty face! Full throttle buddy!!
Congrats. I didn't realize till the video with Steve Parks that we all share a birthday. Mines the 23rd of August also.
the places you are racing & the size of the track really determine how much motor you really need... some trucks in the deep south modifieds really don't have a bunch of motor rules & that's what makes it cool to me
sometimes you get to see a race where the winner maybe has 65% of the power as the big motors
