    Watching this video was very helpful. To fix my issue: I had to loosen the tension and then I could rescrew the hinge back on to the door and then tighten the tension. Job well done! All thanks to God and Mike.

    You can push the pin out versus trying to pull it out. There’s a hole behind that can’t be seen :)
    Thank you for the video!!!

    Thanks. Had to tension mine down pretty good as this new spring is half the diameter of the old one and the door is heavy and only has one spring. Worked great though

    Thanks, my door was closing real slow and wasn't closing all the way. My top pin came out (found it in the floor), bottom hinge seems to work. When I applied your instructions the loosing (counterclockwise) had tension but turning clockwise just kept turning without any tension so I assume the spring (?) snapped and that's why the pin fell out.

    Awesome, I was going to buy some new hinges because I thought the ones I had on my door were old but I just need to adjust the springs on it. SAVED $20 thanks 🤘🏻

    Keep turning the allen wrench clockwise and can't find the pin. I can see the Allen wrench is engaged. Could the pin be missing? I'm able to stick a new pin in 1/4". There is no tension on the door now. Great vid btw, very clear

      Yes, it sounds like the pin is missing if there's no tension on the door- thanks for your comments! Good luck with your project!- Mike

      There are fixed spring tension hinges, but usually, that's something you'd find on outdoor gate hinges. If there's no pin sticking out and it's a smaller hinge, then it may be non adjustable or no spring in it at all. Another person commented that they had to take the hinge off to do the adjustment - that might be an option in your case. There are newer hinges that have a vertical and horizontal adjustment to them, and those adjustments are found in the open face of the hinge. Those type of hinges are more for cabinetry or cabinet doors than anything else. You may have to find a new hinge to purchase, like the one in the video, that is easily adjustable. Good luck with your project!- Mike

    Greetings. I just had a door and frame installed. The top hinge on my new door looks like the one in your video. The installer never explained the hinge to me. I want to paint the door. How do I deal with that top hinge. The other two hinges I can just pop the hinge pins out. Not sure about the top hinge tho. Can you help?

    • @mikesdoityourself
      @mikesdoityourself  3 роки тому +2

      Definitely, you'll need to release the spring tension from the hinge and then take the screws out of the side you want to paint.- Mike

    i did exactly what you did b/c the door would partially close by itself. it made it worse. clockwise turn and now door doesn't close at all. tried counter clockwise turn and nothing. assume this is a bad spring???

    Will these stop the door from slamming or does it actually slam it more? Im looking for something to keep the door from slamming

    • @mikesdoityourself
      @mikesdoityourself  3 роки тому +1

      You really have to take almost all the tension off the spring to keep it from slamming or closing hard. I like the slow close hinges that some kitchen cabinets have- maybe there is something like this for doors? Good luck on your project!- Mike

    Adjustable door hinge 📌 PIN... can I remove and leave the pin OUT. ??? anyway to make it less spring ?

    • @mikesdoityourself
      @mikesdoityourself  2 роки тому

      Sure, it will be just like your other hinges that don't have pins and you'll have no closing at all- Normally, the self closing is required because the door is fire rated and is required to close from a fully open or even 30 degree position. So, if you need this door to maintain it's fire rated purpose, you could add a door stop to it so the door can stay open when needed. Good luck with your project!- Mike

    Okay, I have gone by the book on this hinge, but no matter what I try, I close the door and and turn knob and have and door automatically opens, not closing. Have tried different tension settings to no avail? What am I doing wrong? It opens door not closing door.

    • @mikesdoityourself
      @mikesdoityourself  2 роки тому +1

      Sounds like you set the tension on the spring in the opposite direction; try letting all the tension off and go in the other direction- Good luck!- Mike
