  • For our very first time filming in the Quito area, we visited a popular tourist attraction for both local and international travelers.
The TelefériQo Cable Car on the west side of central Quito and takes you to the top of a mountain with spectacular views of the city below. On a clear day, you'll also see the iconic Cotopaxi Volcano located south of Quito.
If you visit La Cuchara Orgánica on the northwest side of the Quito area, be sure to tell them you saw our video! Here's a link to their Facebook page: / lacuchara.organica

I loved this video! I am Ecuadorian from Quito and know all those places. It's time to go back and retire there at home after 43 years in a foreign country.

Made same mistake a few years back lol
From NJ we landed at the old airport At Quito Norte the night before n immediately head to our family house in Tumbaco, the next morning or midday we drove to Quito n of course the first thing we did was heading to the teleférico, it was our boys first time n pretty much for us too ! When we lived in Quito there was no teleférico yet!
The 4 of us got purple lips, headache n I though it was an earthquake since all was shaking for me !!!
Our younger son got it worse n we rushed to go down but he inmediatamente felt better when he saw the kids rides at the bottom hahaha
We have visited this place a couple of times after but we just made sure we got acclimated first
We even hiked all the way up ! The horses were awesome, the clouds swing super cool !! n I had choclos con queso there !!!
    Just love it
Funny how I grew up seen lamas at my parents hacienda in Cotopaxi Now I had to pay for a picture lol lol is ok
My husband also has horses at his parents place n here he had to pay as well but again is ok!!!
Thank you guys for this awesome video

I knew JP was going to get hammered, when you said that you'd started the day at sea level. I once did a drive from Monterey, CA (sea level) to Denver in 2 days. The day after I arrived in Denver, I went camping on one of the many 14,000 foot mountains around Denver.
Shortly after arriving at the camp site, I crawled into a tent and passed out. Many hours later, I crawled out to eat and immediately returned to sleep.
I learned from that experience, so I'm planning on acclimating 90 days in the Colombian mountains and another 90 days in the Ecuadorian mountains before going to Machu Picchu.
I'll also have to come up with a similar plan, when I go up to Rishikesh in the Indian Himalayas to do yoga for a few months.

***El que va a Quito, pierde su banquito.***
***Whoever goes to Quito, loses their seat.***
Hello Amelia And JP! Glad to see you made it to Quito. A spectacular setting high up in the mountains.
It can takes days to acclimate to the thinner air. So, no rushing in and out. And the Sun burns the skin, best to wear hats, scarfs as you mentioned.
My family took that Gondola ride about 10 years ago. They tell me it is owned by the Catholic Church. So, the Pope should have been your ticket-taker.
Lots to see in Quito, 2 million population. Historical Center with ornate churches everywhere. The modern architecture is creative and adds a modern flair to the city.
Oh, and don't forget, the newly constructed subway is going to transform how residents move in this North/South city. The final operations decisions are ongoing. I'm sure your guide will have plenty of customers once the dynamics of the city explode with this new travel option.
    ----Cheers from Hollywood.

You guys are awesome and the great video of your first Quito visit.
Lately you have been featuring wonderful looking places that unfortunately are way too high in elevation for my wife....and to a lesser extent me. We have basically spent our entire lives at about 300 ft above sea level and when we were recently in Albuquerque, I know my wife had a couple episodes with the altitude which I think is about 6,000 ft. Would that mean being limited to Beach towns in Ecuador or are there still options inland at 6Kft or under?
Thank you and continued safe....and fun travels.

Ginko biloba is used in in the Himalayas to prevent altitude related issues, like headache and dizziness. It thins the brain/blood barrier allowing oxygen to more easily supply the brain. I wonder if coca leaves or other local mild stimulant would reduce altitude issues as well?
Also, altitude issues are worse when you remain still and physically inactive; whereas physical activity increases blood flow to the brain, and the rest of the body. People who spend the night at high altitude usually experience the worse symptoms.
...I'd say the views and experience were worth it.🐸

@@matthewmiller225 glad you liked the places I wrote. Quito is a huge city. Just be aware of your surroundings at all times. Try not to use your cell phone in public. Hold tight to your backpack if using one. Vista Hermosa restaurant has beautiful veiws of the city at night time. The Quito Basilica is a beautiful self guided cathedral to see. Uber and Didi are very inexpensive way to get around town. Download their Apps. I would pay with cash. Try not to use your credit or debit cards to buy things. My information has been stolen numerous times. I now pay with cash for almost everything. Most ATM's give you a choice for English or Spanish after you enter your card. Careful at all times while using an ATM. Papallacta hot springs are wonderful also. Cotopaxi park is beautiful. Cotocachi has a huge mercado, 2 hour drive from Quito. Great for souvenirs! Enjoy your stay!

We hiked up the top of that mountain (name is Cruz Loma) before the teleferiqo was built. We even did the trail to Rucu Pichincha up until the "first needle". It did take about 12 hours rouns trip. My friends and I were on first year of med school. Funny, last week I took my 8 and 5 year olds to Emerald Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park. Life repeats itself.

Once again, you guys are the exemplar for how to UA-cam. Have you done a video about medical services in Ecuador? Cheers from Canada.

Very mice video! Makes me want to go back. My husband, my daughter and I, went to Ecuador for the first time in 2015. It was wonderful! We went to Pulularía geobotanical reserve and mitad del mundo. Thank you for your sacrifice! 😆Loved it!!!

Parque Nacional Cajas is so beautiful! You can easily spend the day there! We went fishing in Dos Chorreras (water falls) and then they cooked the fish for us, whichever way we wanted it! A group of 15 ate a delicious, trout meal for a very inexpensive price. The restaurant was beautiful and servers were the best! I highly recommend it.

We took 2 days to drive to Quito but we really felt the altitude. Quito is wonderful and has so many things to see and do.. We had the special tea and altitude pills

Where did you acquire the altitude pills if you dont mind me asking. I plan on going back to Quito and it would be amazing to have something help. When visiting my dad it took me almost a week to acclimate if my memory serves me right.

La Cuchara Orgánica looks amazing! Hoping we can get there for lunch next Monday as we are in Quito for the day between our time in Manta and Cuenca. Would love a copy of the cookbook as well. Thanks for sharing this.
