If you use compost tea on a regular schedule say weekly you would need to do is add a good fish Fertilizer with it. I add fish fertilizer into the compost tea along with a meshed or blended up cooked potato. The starch from the potato acts as food for the microbes. And with temps in the 80s and up the foam will be over flowing in 24 to 36 hours. I use 3:1 Comfrey tea in early spring to early summer, 20:1 with regular watering there after. Use that plus IMO, lactobacillus, or Bokashi juice from time to time. Do this for everything in my garden including fig trees in pots and in the ground.
I use the kelp meal and honey but I’ve been lazy this season and bought the formulated stuff that you dilute. Good for the compost aswell to get it going quick
As a new fig grower I am going back and watching all of your videos. This video gave me several questions related to my way of gardening and potting plants. I never uppot unless the plant had previously been well hydrated. I uppot in the evening after the sun has gone down. I would not give fertilizer to a bone dry plant. The newly repotted plant would not go immediately in the sun. Prior to repotting, any superfluous leaves or shoots would be removed with a sterilized pruner. I would so appreciate info as to why this great difference between gardening with perennials, shrubs and annuals and the growing of figs successfully. I have inherited figs from a friend who died recently, and have determined to learn allI can about fig growing😊
Get rid of the air circulation, add sugar and alot more green matter. Fermented plant juices are awesome and the Koreans have been using this method for decades.
When you say warm soil what average temp is good? It’s averages 105° here in az where I’m at. I have most in 10 gallon pots in full sun and if you go try and touch a pot that is getting full sun you can’t keep you hand on it and I have sandpaper for hands
Hello Ross. Long story but I need HELP!!! I am officially taking over the care of a 3 year old fig tree. It is planted in the ground. It has survived being cut down by a mower 2 falls ago and minimal care last year. I have been watching some of your videos on pruning but I don’t know what to do at this point. It looks like a bush. Should I cut it down and start over??
Hey buddy, I've been using many coast of main products for about 5 years now, your figs are going to love the lobster compost. My potting mix for my figs is promix hp w michrorizae as the bulk of it, then I add c.o.m. stonington blend, c.o.m. lobster compost, c.o.m. manure compost, rice hulls, garden tone, 10 10 10 slow release, and lastly and probably the most important azos. The azos has made a huge improvement to this already perfect mix. I've been using this mix with crazy growth and health ,you will be suprised if you try it,trust me, not that yours are unhealthy but me and my girlfriend been watching your videos for a couple years now, and we notice that ours grow much faster than yours and look nicer. don't take that as an insult please,we love watching your videos, we all are always learning. But I won't be trying anything new anytime soon.
A hose filter, the ones used for RVs, works well for dechlorinating water if you don’t mind reduced water pressure. Ross, they make concentrated compost tea starter, its pretty well known here in California where it was developed, where you just add a ml per gallon and it makes some of the most concentrated microbial solution out there when looking at it under a scope. Let me know if you’re interested in such a product
@@RossRaddi based on where all your pots are and how many you have, you might just want to use a pump for the rain barrels. Even with blocks, psi is never enough to satisfy. Def a good system to implement. In dry periods, you can fill the rain barrels with tap water and the chlorine will gas off after about 24 hours, then you can water that way too.
Ross, Did you do an update to your Pre-Rooting Fig Tree Cuttings video? Were the figs you re-rooted in a plastic tub in the closet, the figs underneath the one table over where you turned on the water? I am looking for an updated video on how they did. I can't find one. The original was this one: Pre-Rooting Fig Tree Cuttings | Pleased w/ the Results May 19, 2022 ua-cam.com/video/lYTEM2KaF-Q/v-deo.html
Hi Ross, did you ever encounter a problem with root-knot nematodes on your figs? Those bastards killed six of my 2 years old figs. My soil is very sandy and they love that kind of soil. No idea how to fight these parasites.

I've always thought about chlorine in water and the impact on the soil biome, I'm going to get a hose filter.
Thanks for the mention on IG.
@@RossRaddi You’re welcome! Really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your garden with us!
I'm so glad I found your channel! Now I need to watch your videos! :)

Compost tea good video idea will watch for sure
For your compost tea consider a powerhead with an aerator hose. It will move water better! Just a thought.

Not so heavy on the potted plants when it comes to the soil. Organic is the way not to panic and Pete moss is good.
Are the new figs from Off the Beaten Path Nursery? I picked up a few this year too

78F is optimal
@@RossRaddi dang I probably need to go in ground asap it’s probably 130° in those pots

@@RossRaddi it will make some of the most active and frothy compost tea you have ever seen. Extremely easy to use
@@RossRaddi I think the link is getting deleted, but its Sea Green from Primordial Solutions.
As much rain as you get you should set up some rain barrels .
How would you get psi with a rain barrel?
@@RossRaddi You put them up on cement blocks.

@@RossRaddi a 12 volt transfer pump. I use a 55 gal. Barrel to mix my fertilizer and pump to all my fig trees.
Love your videos! Question: What do you put in the bottom of the pots to keep the potting mix in the pot when watering? Thanks
Just more soil! Maybe a little escapes on the first watering.
Chlorine filter on tap water?
I just got 2 new fig trees. Should I up pot them before it goes into hibernation this winter or wait until the spring? Thank you.
Up pot them now.
How can I be notified when you have verdino del nord available for sale?
It's looking like that'll be pretty unlikely this year.
@@RossRaddi thanks for the update
What do you do with all of those fig trees!?
All I can concentrate on is that the trunks aren't all in the center of the pot....I know it doesn't matter...but its killkng me hahaha

Organic material!
Plant an LSU Purple. It's resistant.
Add vermiculite to the peatmoss.
