Wow! What a compliment!!! Ty so much!! It’s a bit cheesy but I feel demonstrative explaining can help rather than just talking about stuff. I’m a visual learner myself so… yea I’m speechless! Ty again!! 8am and you already made my day!
I personally water once every 5 to 7 days, i start with a slow water on all of my pots, and then give them a deep watering but i add it slowly once i see a single drop of water coming out of the drainage holes i stop to make sure i dont waste water and ferteliser. The only diffrence i make is when there are figs ripening in the last stage when you know your like 5 to 7 days away from a perfectly ripe fig, then i stop watering the plant or only give very little amount of water to the plants, this seems to work great for me. Ps: I have 125 figs in pots, and dont have running water so i have to water with rain water that i capture during the year, so i have to water with care since every drop matters, and i simply dont have the time to water daily.
Badly needed advice! I better get outside and start counting Mississippis! My logic in watering in the evening is that the plant has all night to take in moisture from the moist soil and would stay moist longer than if watered in the morning. I have watered in emergencies in the middle of a hot day and have seen no ill effects. I am living in the desert with mostly 5 percent humidity and hot sun. I have noticed that when watering in ground wood chip mulched plants in the evening the pill bugs come up and chew on the leaves. I think I will reconsider and try more watering in the morning. As you said... "If your plant needs water, water it!"
I water in the evenings too sometimes. I wish I lived in the desert with figs! I sadly don’t have experience with that climate but my thinking would still tell me to water in the morning. One of the drawbacks is, if the plant is still young, there might be concerns of overwatering issues. The morning, give the sun and plant all day, to stabilize the moisture in the pots… again water when you can!
I checked my pots after watering figs today by checking how heavy the pots were. Just lifting one side enough to feel it. Some were really light so I watered them again. My potting soil is all over the place and I think that some soil just drains more quickly while other pots hold more water. Lifting the edge of the pot is a good test.
I've seen some really large drip trays that might be beneficial to keep the nutrients in the soil. Anything that runs off would be absorbed back into the tree.
I have some when I kept some plants in my grow tent… I’m gonna test it out. But what I really need to do is get a drip irrigation going next year for sure
Haha… I’m just growing them for fun. My friend is a big grower and had a bunch of clones he was gonna throw out… so he gave me a couple. They definitely grow fast like weeds!
Thank you from Magnolia Texas 💦. Any thoughts about water catchment trays under the pots? I've seen some growers use them. I know that you use large perlite at the bottom of your pots, seems like it might simulate a wicking pot. I also like using yucca as a wetting agent.
I’ve considered it. First 15g trays…. That’s gonna cost a lot of money… cause I would get the nice ones… and if I got them… I would want to empty them to water the plants again and don’t wanna lift 15g trees often… wet root all day vs wicking water back up…. I’m not sure… 🤔 great question. And yucca is another great wetting agent.
@@basementfigs when I drill holes in 5 gal buckets, I drill them one half inch up on the sides and not the bottom, and only two holes. I too have coarse material in the bottom of my buckets, creates just a little bit of the reservoir and I can monitor runoff closely. Thanks for the videos brother!
I couldn’t agree more… the only reason I haven’t done it yet… there’s some soul healing for me that gardening brings me… main reason I still like to hand water… always gives me an excuse to go outside and take a breather in the morning, before my crazy life begins! Thanks for watching!!!
Fantastic video, best video that I have seen on handwatering container grown videos

Yes I do the same once the figs start ripening! Thanks for the comment! Where are you from!?
I'm from the netherlands =]
@Khalinjai awesome!
Great video and super informative. I’m new to figs and have been wondering how often to water. Thanks!
Welcome to the hobby! And thanks for watching!!

Yea.. I shuffled some figs around today… some pots were def lighter than others. Just one part of learning process. Thanks for watching!!
Nice garden. Nice tips. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!! And compliment!!

Thanks for the time you spent showing us your watering technique.. I always enjoy your videos 👍😊🇦🇺 Adam from Brisbane Australia.....
Thanks for watching all the way in Australia

Lovely fig garden you have Homer I water mine every day 😊
Ty!! Yea it’s a lot of work but gardening grounds me and gets me mentally prepared for the day!! I appreciate the support and the compliment!!
11:46 😍😍
These are all so beautifully shaped. Is this as a result of the 30" main leader 1st year/18" scaffold 2nd year technique?
Yes! I learned my lesson though. Never pass 12” scaffold on the 2nd year. New pruning videos will be coming out shortly.
@@basementfigs Excellent. Looking forward to it 🐐
Hi friend definitely like 👍🏽 lol great content well enjoy watching must say I am new here
Welcome!! Ty for watching!!
Could you let me know What is the name of the green watering ring and where can I buy it. Thank you, great tips!
I’ve seen it on Amazon. It’s called a Tree Sprinkler Ring.

@scottgilliamprettysureihea3757 I’m actually gonna try that! Ty!
Great Video. But i have to say that Drip irrigation fixes most of these issues and saves you a ton of time.

Excellent Thank you . Can I use New Jersey instead of Mississippi?😂 just kidding 👍
Haha! I just aged myself doing “Mississippi” counting…. LOL
