Mikey's rant about some smaller Pokémon having a higher attack than some stage 3 Pokémon made me realize that its not even that farfetched since there are animals in the real world like the Peacock mantis Shrimp which can strike with a force of up to 1,300 PSI per square inch while a lions bite only has a PSI of about 650 to 1,000 pounds per square inch.
I’m sure some already know, but for those who don’t: The reason onix is so unbelievably bad, is that it was meant as a “tutorial” boss battle. Onix has very high defense but extremely low special defense. Teaching you that different Pokémon have different defense stats, and to use the new move your starter just learnt (water gun, vine whip, ember) The low attack keeps it from absolutely destroying your Pokémon (and seeing how painful onix can be to deal with when you aren’t prepared for it, it’s balanced enough) and also teaches you to not just spam attacks when it uses bide and instead take the chance to use status moves or items. It’s big and scary and cool, it’s physical defense makes it feel very powerful, and it’s stats are pretty well distributed when considering what it’s role is meant to be. (Tank physical hits & look cool without one-shotting your starters) Defeating it blind for the first time probably made so many kids feel powerful. Especially with Brock looking so intimidating in gen 1
It certainly felt like an accomplishment after seeing Onix in the anime, where it isn’t restricted by game mechanics and hits exactly as hard as a massive rock snake should.
I always assumed that "Speed" as a stat is not referring to "this is how fast the Pokemon can go physically" but rather their _reaction_ speed. This is how fast the Pokemon: 1. Receives and understands its trainer's command (or decides what it will do next itself if wild) 2. Orients itself to attack the opponent 3. Builds up the necessary physical momentum/power to engage. It's entirely possible that Pokemon with dex entries referencing high maximum speeds have really slow acceleration and/or poor reaction times, which would stunt their "Speed" stat. Tl;dr: Speed should probably be referred to as "Initiative" or "Reaction" instead of Speed.
By that logic, most Psychic Types should be really fast, but most of them who have massive brains like Metagross and Grumpig, aren't that fast compared to Electrode who is that fast because electromagnetism allows it to move like a cannonball and Barraskewda, who is there because it can swim like a bullet. I'm pretty sure it is the actual speed of the Pokemon and Gamefreak just has a few moments of terrible consistency.
I remember using the Synchro Machine, and there some fast Pokémon who move slow as ass (ex. Regieleki) and some slow Pokémon that move pretty decently (ex. Iron Hands)
I do love how both the anime and the games reference that Rhydons can swim. Not only was there an episode focusing on a Rhydon that would frequently dive underwater, and be an absolute beast in battle while underwater, but in the Teal Mask DLC, if you go to the Canyon Biome in Blueberry Academy, you can find a Rhydon that can terastylize into a Water-Type.
Legends Arceus throwing the "All trade pokemon are impossible to find in the wild" out of whack by adding the Link Cable evolution item and making item trades just use the item functioning like an evolution stone.
And then there's Scarlet and Violet throwing a wrench in the mamoswine thing thanks to the fact that "egg moves" can now be taught by another pokemon over a good lunch.
I assumed that the Linking Cord/Link Cable was something created by humans? Someone could have dropped one, I guess, but it's not like you'd ever have seen those Pokémon in the wild before it was invented. And since it looks like a computer cable, that would be quite recently (space-time rifts notwithstanding).

no. It’s a color theory thing. Different cultures came up with names for colors at different times and that influenced how they group them. Some cultures only had the colors “light” “dark” and “red” for instance. It’s not that they couldn’t see millions of shades, they just didn’t have separate names for them. In Japan, the names for orange and green are comparably new to the rest of the colors. It doesn’t mean they can’t see them. But it does mean that subjective mixtures of colors may fall in different color categories than you are used to. To them, green is a shade of blue and orange is a shade of red, just like in the English speaking world, aqua is a shade of blue. In some cultures aqua is its own color separate from blue or green completely. (To note, at one time in English we did have 7 distinct colors, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Blue was closer to aqua and indigo was the blue we have today. Language and culture can change though.)
For anyone questioning the strength of small creatures, remember that a mantis shrimp can puncture holes through wetsuits through wetsuits and will break your fingers
Speed stat can be thought of the time it takes to actually attack, not how fast it can move. For example, the difference between being able to throw a fast punch vs. sprinting a mile
@@astercat49 well that's more or less a case of not everyone using the same logic to apply to the "Speed" stat. Maybe the nominally slow cow is still fast enough to get the drop on a lot of mons in a small battle space? Would also explain why Vikavolt is lore-wise quite fast but gameplay wise quite slow.
@@astercat49reaction time has nothing to do with how heavy something is, its all in their brain, ita a cognitive based stat, how fast they can undertsand and act on their trainer's commands
@PorygonTrainerPory in most cases it seems to be a form of reactionspeed, but yeah, its a mess. looking at onix, i do wonder if more pokemon are designed as bosses and not really ment to be used by the player
2:48:58 Quick tip for those who didn't know yet; As of Scarlet and Violet patch 1.3.2 onward illuminate works like keen eye so now it has a use in battle but only the Lanturn line and Volbeat had experienced this change and technically make Watchog have 2 ability that do the same thing(But Watchog isn't in Scarlet and Violet so illuminate work the same way before it was patch but it's still a horrible ability)
Pretty much. Americans don't seem to realize that both names are translated things and have no correlation otherwise. Same with the idiot "Incineroar doesn't learn incinerate" nonsense.
@@SEAkuaa The original name of "growl" is an animal's cry. It lowers atk because it's unassuming and cute. A canine guard dog like Growlithe won't do that, it'll bark, which is reflected in it learning roar (which is more like barking). Basically, english fucked up by making the move growl sound way more aggressive than it was supposed to.
Thank you! I always thought I was the weird one making these comparison and torturing my mind just by thinking: HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE. Some stats are just random numbers I tell ya. And to make it real, they wuold need to make normal pokemon with 800 base stats total. But indeed, some pokemon got completely unreal balance
7:58 I think the Pokédex reveals how Rhyhorn racing is exciting: "It is inept at turning because of its four short legs. It can only charge and run in one direction. It doesn't care if there is anything in its way. It just charges and destroys all obstacles." It's thrilling because the jockey is desperately wrestling the Rhyhorn and if they fail to force them to turn... People die! 😂
With the tinkaton stat one, I think they did that to somewhat balance tinkaton because can you imagine high lvl tinkaton with a base stat over 80 hitting your pokemon with a gigaton hammer?
I'm sure this is a better comment for its original video rather than the compilation, but... Steelix is actually perfectly explainable. It could well be that Onix can naturally evolve into Steelix by feeding on metal ore as it tunnels around (especially plausible since the first place we can find wild Steelix is IRON ISLAND), and that the Metal Coat + trade is just an alternate/faster method of this natural process.
As a person who autistically rewatches damn near Mikey's entire library once every 3-4 months and falls asleep to his videos regularly, I love this compilation. Maybe some point down the line we can get a comp or his team building videos
Trade evolutions being possible nowadays, especially in Hisui where Space-time Distortions can just spontaneously create Linking Cords, so if a Kadabra, Onix, Graveler, Porygon, Porygon2, etc. happen to pick one up, then that makes sense. I know the original video was made before Legends Arceus, but it's still nice to have a development to that!
My theory is that the pokemon with low speed stats despite the dex stating otherwise is because they take time to gather momentum, which they can't get while in battle
The thing about the speed stat is it's less about their overall top speed when moving and more about their ability to react... So it makes sense that pokemon like ryehorn has a slow speed stat but still has a high top speed(ryhorn races).
There's a tiny fact that supports that interpretation of the speed stat... The characteristic that indicates a high Speed IV is "Alert to sounds", which implies quick perception/reaction time.
1:34:00 Apparently, it's because of the whole green vs. blue ambiguity in Japan; they call green apples "blue apples," for instance. Still though... this makes no sense!
54:05 Or Kecleon in Unova! Granted, the only wild Kecleon in the Unova games are I the Nature Preserve in B2W2, but it gets Ancient Power by level up and is in the same Egg Group as the Swinub line.
I just realized: could it be that you thought that several of the light blue pokemon like Elgyem were grey because of your yellow glasses, that block blue light?
Well, with Accelgor and Escavalier, the reason for trade evolving is different lore-wise, since it’s just because karrablast takes shelmet’s armor, so that makes more sense to be possible
I remember the Hmaz video on this, glad you made one! I think the reason for most of the bad Pokémon logic is Japanese translations. A lot of the move names were changed from Japanese to English and aren’t exact translations. Same how calling Pokemon “it” even if we know the gender is a weird mistranslation, or how some of the Pokemon names aren’t directly translated.
Hey mikey! I have a video suggestion for you. I see that most of your videos like best starter, best hm mule, best game pick for a region, best pokemon overall , best gym leader etc, only go to gen 8. I was thinking you should make a video in which you update all your videos to scarlet and violet.
In their defence, the speed stats is probably more like acceleration, cuz that’s what determines who hit first, while the descriptions about speed in Pokédex entries are probably more like top speed/max speed
Wanna talk about a loss of a move that made me salty? Lycanroc lost Iron Tail. Which means my dreams of terrstalizing it to use a No Guard steel type with iron tail are DEAD
Well at the very least you can transfer on that has that move over (if possible; the whole “might not know the move”/“reset” added this generation may prevent that).
49:48 While I KIND of agree with Accelgor and Escavalier being impossible to find in the wild, I think a dubious exception can be made for it. Looking at the Dex entries for these two, Accelgor references "discarding its shell" which is something that can easily be done in the wild, and Escavalier references "stealing from shelmet" which is something that can be done in the wild. However, the complication comes from the Dex entires for Shelmet and Karrablast, where they reference needing to be near one another and experiencing electrical stimulation. Dunno...I think this is just a weird one all together, but might merit some special consideration?
Steelix is also explainable. Its Pokedex entries starting in Platinum say that it's believed Onix evolve into Steelix due to ingesting iron as it digs around, but even back in Gen 2 it says that Onix evolve into Steelix after either living for a really long time or living in high pressures near the planet's core. Onix has always been able to evolve into Steelix naturally, the Metal Coat + trade just speeds up that process. Back to Accelgor and Escavalier, though... eh, it's a weird one. Though Karrablast's dex entries also mentions they feed on Shelmet... maybe Karrablast feed on Shelmet and every now and then one's able to evolve? And that they're so rare outside of trades because the specific conditions, while possible, are just so unlikely (Karrablast and Shelment near one another, possibly while K's trying to eat S, and also receiving the surge so that they both survive and evolve...).
as the saying goes, the real reason ryhdon learns surf is beacauseto surf u need something to "ride-on"

"Miltank is a stupid fat cow with sausage nipples"
I rewatched that part so many times and laughed every time, god damn.
Three hours of MandJTV??
Christmas came early
All stuff we've seen yet. These compilations don't belong on the main channel
For anyone questioning the strength of small creatures, remember that a mantis shrimp can puncture holes through wetsuits through wetsuits and will break your fingers
Time to draw. I’ll sit down here for 3 hours and listen to this whilst I go, wish me luck
Long compilation videos are so good for that kind of thing. Personally, I find them invaluable for washing dishes! Good luck with your art
I've been playing Cobblemon while watching this, caught a few shinies, discovered that Dewgong is rideable in water and on land (so is Tentacruel)
Speed stat can be thought of the time it takes to actually attack, not how fast it can move. For example, the difference between being able to throw a fast punch vs. sprinting a mile
Thats a great analogy.
That logic still doesn’t hold up when that would mean that an overweight cow can attack faster than a samurai otter.
@@astercat49 well that's more or less a case of not everyone using the same logic to apply to the "Speed" stat. Maybe the nominally slow cow is still fast enough to get the drop on a lot of mons in a small battle space? Would also explain why Vikavolt is lore-wise quite fast but gameplay wise quite slow.
reaction time basically
@@astercat49reaction time has nothing to do with how heavy something is, its all in their brain, ita a cognitive based stat, how fast they can undertsand and act on their trainer's commands
I’ve heard that “speed” is talking about “reaction speed”, and I agree with the sentiment.
yes, although there are some weird cases, but i expect the weird cases to just be game mechanics
Pawmot will probably not have 110 speed if speed means reaction speed. It's dex entries suggest it has a slow reaction speed
@@slow_mk8 it does seem in most cases it is reaction speed, but there are probably a few outliers based on gameplay and balance
@@ElysiaWhitemoonOmegawell then it could be either
@PorygonTrainerPory in most cases it seems to be a form of reactionspeed, but yeah, its a mess. looking at onix, i do wonder if more pokemon are designed as bosses and not really ment to be used by the player
I was actually suprised by how ""short"" this video is
Dude you are committed I subbed 4 years ago and your still making content that id relevant since 2009 keep going like that your doing great.
I feel like for the older gen’s it’d work for grinding levels but even then that’s a stretch
If growlithe was named meowlithe would anyone care if it learned growl. Then I thought deeper gamefreak would have gave meowlithe growl.
Pretty much. Americans don't seem to realize that both names are translated things and have no correlation otherwise. Same with the idiot "Incineroar doesn't learn incinerate" nonsense.
@@youtube-kit9450well aren’t you a ball of sunshine
People would be too confused as to why it was called that despite being a dog
Okay why doesn't the dog learn growl is still a valid question without the name

I think the Pokédex reveals how Rhyhorn racing is exciting:
"It is inept at turning because of its four short legs. It can only charge and run in one direction.
It doesn't care if there is anything in its way. It just charges and destroys all obstacles."
It's thrilling because the jockey is desperately wrestling the Rhyhorn and if they fail to force them to turn... People die! 😂
and never NEVER NEVER forget. That Shuckle, a little worm in a tiny shell, HAS THE SAME DEFENSE AS MEGA F👾👾👾ING STEELIX
The reason Rhydon can learn surf is because it can Rhydon waves, haHaHA-
With the tinkaton stat one, I think they did that to somewhat balance tinkaton because can you imagine high lvl tinkaton with a base stat over 80 hitting your pokemon with a gigaton hammer?
Add 3x swords dance to that and your fairies are gonna die
Yo, who is punching babies to test their defense?
Game Freak and Nintendo, probably? 😂😢
You already hit 2 mil by the time this came out!! Proud of you man, you're doing fantastic. Congratulations!! 🎉
As a person who autistically rewatches damn near Mikey's entire library once every 3-4 months and falls asleep to his videos regularly, I love this compilation. Maybe some point down the line we can get a comp or his team building videos
bad logic is not subscribing to MANDJTV
I love how i found this video 3 HOURS after it was posted.
"Greeting Pokéfans!" and "Gotta catch them AAAAALL" are both engraved in my mind.
Watching this feels like pulling those pillars of ice out of the arctic to see the past
My eyes! Michael without facial hair, I forgot such a time existed all these years!
Had to say thank you Mikey. I’m sick and can barely focus on a screen today so having this play while i fall in and out of sleep has been awesome!
You posted this at the perfect time. Perfect background video to animate to. love these compilations, Mikey :33
Honestly TInkaton is probably using the hammer as a heavy blunt weapon
Three hours of MandJTV, with a side of nostalgia.
dude these compilation videos mikey’s been putting out are the best lullaby ive ever been sung
Average Mikey upload includes: 1:Mikey of course. 2: dad jokes of some kind. 3: knowledge on Pokémon. Am I wrong???
36:30 😂😂😂 pov "they don't let abomination reproduce"
Still though... this makes no sense!
i have a feeling teddiursa could murder me in a heart beat, and not tinkaton
it’s funny to me that you can’t fly on a giant flying scorpion but you can surf on a rat and a metal Dino that would sink immediately if in water
I love how he’s examining Pokémon colors with yellow tinted glasses on XD
54:05 Or Kecleon in Unova! Granted, the only wild Kecleon in the Unova games are I the Nature Preserve in B2W2, but it gets Ancient Power by level up and is in the same Egg Group as the Swinub line.
I just realized: could it be that you thought that several of the light blue pokemon like Elgyem were grey because of your yellow glasses, that block blue light?
Because magcargo's shell easily breaks, it shell disperses the impact, then the exposed magma recools give it back its defense.
My favorite pokemon youtuber casually dropped a 3 hour video and im watching all of it
Well, with Accelgor and Escavalier, the reason for trade evolving is different lore-wise, since it’s just because karrablast takes shelmet’s armor, so that makes more sense to be possible
"Greetings Pokèfans" is gonna be in my dreams and nightmares after watching this whole video
Hey mikey! I have a video suggestion for you. I see that most of your videos like best starter, best hm mule, best game pick for a region, best pokemon overall , best gym leader etc, only go to gen 8. I was thinking you should make a video in which you update all your videos to scarlet and violet.
Illuminate (Generation IX):
By iilluminating its surroundings, the Pokémon prevents its accuracy from being lowered.
In their defence, the speed stats is probably more like acceleration, cuz that’s what determines who hit first, while the descriptions about speed in Pokédex entries are probably more like top speed/max speed
I feel like the Escavelier Accelgor trade evolution is definitely possible in the wild as long as the shell is stolen by a karrablast
13:00 macargo also has the ability weak armor which also questions the high defense
I think all of the confusing speed stats just feed into the theory of the speed stat being reaction time and not actual travel speed.
Bro wake up and choose to destroy logic of whole franchise
I really do enjoy learning fun facts, especially Pokémon related, so having a compilation like this is really fun!
36:01 Police yes THE NIDOKING RIGHT THERE VIOLATING A LEVEL 13 NIDORAN
Yeah lol when he said that I was pretty much like "*vine boom sfx* wth"
Bruh I hate it sm, they need to change this 😭😭😭
3 hour nostalgia banger incoming.
Already added it to my fav sounds Playlist 😂☺️
Cosmoem is probably made of mostly dark matter so it being insanely dense kind of makes lore sense
This is fascinating to watch just to see babu Michael in the later vids. So babyfaced and cute!
I said it before, but Happy 30 to you, my dude.
Another name for this video can be is 3 hours of bad Pokémon logic to fall asleep to lol
One case of bad logic is that DUSCLOPS LOST EARTHQUAKE IN GEN 9 AND I'M STILL SALTY ABOUT IT
profile pic checks out
RIP Phoebe's strongest Dusclops lol
Wanna talk about a loss of a move that made me salty? Lycanroc lost Iron Tail. Which means my dreams of terrstalizing it to use a No Guard steel type with iron tail are DEAD
Well at the very least you can transfer on that has that move over (if possible; the whole “might not know the move”/“reset” added this generation may prevent that).
2:56 look at it this way, a rock has an attack of zero. Onix is slightly higher because it could move
16:30 Mikey: Gotta catch them allllll!
*next video starts*
Me: oh this one
Mikey: Can these Pokemon breed!
"HOW FAST IS THIS HAMSTER!!"*Mikey throws his hands in the air*
Let’s go my favorite videos in one video for in time for christmas

While I KIND of agree with Accelgor and Escavalier being impossible to find in the wild, I think a dubious exception can be made for it.
I mean theoretically they could do that while an electric type nearby gives both a low power shock
@@moxiemouse24 Could be worth noting that in Unova Karrablast is found near Chargestone Cave...
Dedenne invented time travel to go back in time to eat more berries
3 hours of MandJTV. It's an early Christmas miracle!
1:10:37 the situational thing that could happen is that weezing could get rid of their abilities thus not summoning the super weather
I love how he’s examining Pokémon colors with yellow tinted glasses on XD (1:30:00)
Seeing this compilations made me appreciate this channel's evolution of content quality.
10:10 the cows are finally starting to get the upperhoof in the war of the 70s
cramming assignments while this plays on the background. life has truly hit its peak.
what a great upload i needed something to watch during this all nighter
