I actually helped document some of the later builds closer to release along with @BlueYoshi, precisely February to E3, and honestly it was a fun ride! Fun Fact : the August/September build of this Game was shown off at both SpaceWorld 2000 and ECTS 2000, meaning that there's a higher chance it could reappear someday!
Fun fact: The "GBA Mario Circuit" theme we hear in MK8DX is actually a remix of the beta version of the circuit theme in MKSC. That's why it sounds different to the one everyone remembers.
This is nice to see. Super Circuit in my opinion is the most underrated Mario Kart game and has the 3rd best Rainbow Road in the franchise. A very charming little game.
9:40 The B and C from the ranking screen did use a different coloring, but that isn't the actual one, the old coloring got overwritten by the one that was used in the final game.
Fun fact:Mario circuits music in the beta is actually the same music that was used In the Mario kart 8 version of Gba Mario circuit and the music resembles the beta Mario circuit theme more than the final used in Mario kart super circuit
As for why the background on the unused SNES Battle Course 4 course keeps going up, I hypothesize that it may be a remnant of a quark with how the background coding shares the background coding of GBA Rainbow Road, seeing as the background also rose up in that course to basically the same rate as SNES Battle Course 4.
Super Circuit is such an underrated Mario Kart. It has a lot of great tracks. I've always been curious to see what unused content the game holds; not much of it is known.
YAY! Doesn't matter if you're sick, IT'S ALWAYS COOL GETTING MORE LOST BITS!!! Plus, I have played this before on an emul- I mean totally legit Gameboy Advance console. It was hard to finish, but I finished the game 100%! I really want to play with other players. Question: What's your favorite Mario Kart character. :D
One thing you kinda missed are the beta soundtracks. You mentioned Mario Kart 64's menu and title being used in Super Circuit. But there are 2 other GBA courses that had different sound than the final, which are Mario Circuit and Ribbon Road. But what's interesting is that the beta version for Mario Circuit sounds similar or identical to the Mario Kart 8 version. This is because the MK8 Band picked the beta version of GBA Mario Circuit than the final version as heard in the final release.
Some extra things - the layout here 1:45 looks like N64 Luigi Raceway and GCN Mushroom bridge - 2:38 the layout kinda remind to SNES Ghost Valley 2 and Boo lake - 5:16 only 3 courses has been seen on all the Time "Big Tree Circuit, Heyho Beach and Koopa Castle" Early designa for Mario Circuit, shy guy Beach and bowser's Castle 1 and for some reason the last course Is locked and there's alot of lack of trees on the Early design for Mario Circuit and the ítem boxes spots - 5:23 only 4 characters are seen instead of all 8 - 7:16 Beside the light effects and the fonts for lap and time, the layout for Boo lake Is different
I get so joyful every time a new video drops. I have no idea of Super Circuit but it will be interesting to see the full joruney of its development. I kinda love the chibi Mario with beeg head.
At 5:07, MKSC had a different sound team than 64. What you're talking about is placeholders or reused samples from previous Nintendo games. (For example the item roulette throughout the series is the SAME sample used since 64. It's quite common for Nintendo to reuse samples in general but for this game that's the only a few besides from voice clips.) There's no soundfont usage in MKSC, it's COMPLETELY sample based depending on memory and the GBA's CPU. (This goes for Mario Kart 64 as well.)
Thank you I have been waiting so long for more Mario Kart lost Bits. Please do whichever games you have left to cover in the series when you have chance.
At Pre-release Differences timestamp i can tell they were taking a lot of elements from mario kart 64 even in the final game the characters movement s and drifts are indeed taking from mario kart 64
9:40 The B and C from the ranking screen did use a different coloring but that isn’t the actual one the old coloring got overwritten by the one that was used in the final game.
2:20 curious the layout of the scrapped Mario Circuit looking track resembles Mushroom Bridge's Also maybe they wanted everyone to be Paper Mario proportions before moving to something more akin to N64
Super Circuit is mad underrated. Great soundtrack, great tracks, overall fun gameplay, and even all SNES tracks. With what was available at the time, this was likely the best that could be done. Also, those prototype heads are quite goofy, and it's nice to see that Bob-Ombs as items could have debuted in this game!
What piqued my interest with that guy's comment on the "special development hardware" was how we're all so used to playing retro games in HD and seeing every pixel individually - yet on the original hardware, the small size and/or the screen quality make it hard to notice the low resolution - it almost makes the game more realistic, despite its graphical workarounds!
I already thought that game inherited so much from Mario Kart 64 and now I know it had so much more, but it was cut. Remember that the final version even has the same character voices from MK64.
Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes I can barely define the shape of this moment in time And far from flying high in clear blue skies I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide If you negotiate the minefield in the drive And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes And if you make it past the shotguns in the hall Dial the combination, open the priesthole And if I'm in I'll tell you (what's behind the wall) (Yahoo!)
@gamersapphsspeedpaintanima101 Yes all the UFO's drawn in Japan are like this and they always have fun colors because Japanese people see UFO's as something fun
I love super circuit! I never played on the GBA but I got the switch online. But I haven’t done battle yet sadly. I sorta wish they added the SNES battle courses. And I laughed so hard when the CPUs freaked out on the oval award ceremony 😆!
I understand the no golden mushroom. The mushroom in super circut is like a very quick boost, unlike in MK8 where its a long boost but not as powerful. So that quick hoost is pretty hard to control on a golden.
Okay, this is just Random Suggestion for Lost Bits and This would probably take Over 100 Hours of gameplay, and it's M for Mature. But, huge fan of this franchise so.... MASS EFFECT. Like seriously there is so much cut content. An entire script of ME3 was Re-wrtiten so yeah. A bunch of cut content.
Ah I remember super circuit, it was my first GBA game ever (came with a special toy's r us GBA), and sure it's not high tier for Mario kart, it was good enough and was happy to see it's tracks being added to future Mario karts
Considering a few of the Super Mario Kart protos from the Gigaleak had unique music not heard in the final game, I think it could be neat if we someday somehow got a build of Super Circuit from its 2000 showings, if not just for the MK64 arrangements and other unheard music (such as the music that plays on Big Tree Circuit)
Its not impossible, I've discovered it wasn't only shown off at SpaceWorld 2000 but also ECTS 2000, which is a European event, so it could reappear some day
It isn't only me who knows all of the character sprites in Super Circuit are the exact same ones from mk64, but with a pastel color palette. Never seen someone mension this.
The black sheep of the series not really bad but noone ever talks about It I played It awhile years ago but not until It came out on NSO and I played with other humans did I feel motivated to get good so I could play online and race ghosts It's like an evolution of super mario kart
Awesome video man I loved this game as a kid and still have my copy complete in box but nowadays I can’t get into like I did when I was a kid I still spent most my time on double dash

14:59 - There's something really funny about the CPU players not being able to complete just a simple oval shape course.

Fun fact: The "GBA Mario Circuit" theme we hear in MK8DX is actually a remix of the beta version of the circuit theme in MKSC. That's why it sounds different to the one everyone remembers.
Why would they use the beta one as their basis for the remix rather than the final version used in the original release
Because it sounded cooler
@najibosman6497 because its much better
This is nice to see. Super Circuit in my opinion is the most underrated Mario Kart game and has the 3rd best Rainbow Road in the franchise. A very charming little game.

3:31 i think one is previous lap time and the other one is best lap time. It was likely removed as they felt it took up too much screen space.
Thank you I have been waiting so long for more Mario Kart lost Bits. Please do whichever games you have left to cover in the series when you have chance.

Mode 7 (or in the GBA's case, Mode 2) will never cease to impress me
"As good as it could've been"? It had only 8 characters, and none of them were Waluigi!
True 😔
9:40 The B and C from the ranking screen did use a different coloring but that isn’t the actual one the old coloring got overwritten by the one that was used in the final game.
