I had the exact opposite experience some years ago. I made some bonsai pots from clay in my garden and gave them to an acquaintance to fire along woth her projects from store bought clay. Hers fired properly, mine were merely calcined and not sintered. So it depends on local geology and the type of clay in one's area. Test firing is probably advisable.
I’m not sure where you live but near where I live by the four corners where Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico collide, there’s some pretty amazing red clay dirt by the New Mexico reservations, definitely recommend. Sending love!
YESSSS and what makes it better is this one reservoir in southern Utah(that I know of and other places might have this) has a variety of color. From purple to white(purple, red, orange, yellow, grey, and white).
Did it fire ok? I thought you need to add a 20% non pliable/plastic additive like sand so the clay doesn’t crack in the kiln. Thanks for posting! I’m just getting started on my wild clay journey
You should come to my yard lol, it’s alllllllll bright orange/red clay. When it’s dry, there are huge cracks making it look like freakin’ Mars. And when it rehydrates, the clay absorbs so much water. I’m going to start the the process of refining some today!
I love that you had such great success! People have been doing this for thousands of years. It’s so great to see people remembering. And to be fair, it’s not always like this. Sometimes there’s some clay but then it’s got too many impurities to fire well. Would have liked to see witness cones and test tiles made.
Have you NOT seen those Island wilderness videos where 2 guys dig into the ground and make shelters and huts and stuff? Channels (titled) such as: Jungle Survival or Mr.Heang Update ?? They make all sorts of wild jungle stuff.
So you don’t have to add anything to wild clay? I have good ball clay here and I was wondering if I should add anything to it. Hopefully I can figure it out. I have clay everywhere in my property and clay isn’t real cheap at the store.
You can totally do that! I have to do it because Utah is really dry, and usually the prettier clay you find here is dried up. It's when you fire it there's no going back.
Personaly am trying to see if anyonr has found the clay i have found its blue and was in a creek im going to do the bucket and straining method as well and see what happens !
Good for you. I'm pleased to see young people using natural resources
It is soooooo refreshing
Wild clay can melt in your kiln. Use a lower heat of 800° Celsius

That is why we have to spare some piece of clay and test fire it before firing it in a kiln
Clay is the most common soil on earth! Its everywhere! Im looking forward to trying this too
Love this! When making your clay, make sure to add 20% sand so it can be fired easier. There’s finer things you can use as well, but sand is free!

I hope you tempered or added sand or ground up pottery so that your piece does not crack while firing. Happy potting!
This is awesome! I just started pottery.
This is so inspiring. It’s such a good reminder about the beauty around us 🙏🏻😊
How exciting to find all natural stuff!! I could literally feel your excitement as it came into shape. 🥳 Great work!
A very unique hobby. I love it
So cool when you can connect to mother nature so directly in your craft ❤️
The vases look fab !!

Lovely! There is an Artist Retreat near me and it has naturally occuring clay along one of the streams on the property. How lucky for them!
Wow, this is incredible. Awesome video :)
Super neat! Looks good

LOVE IT!
This video is so nice❤
Have you used anything like sand or volcanic ash to stop it from cracking?
I'm being so jealous of Kyle ....
You are so gorgeous 😢
So good!!
Nature is infinite source of beauty and resources ❤.
Beautiful.
So awesome love it❤

I have never done pottery but I do watch a lot of pottery content, and I thunk you are supposed to add temper to wild clay for it to work
Did you fire it? Or did you let it air dry
Generally you have to do both, but in opposite order. Dry out, bisque fire, glaze, then fire.
@@Grandma_JizzzzzzzardDepends. Glazing is more for if you're going to use that piece(and obviously to make it look prettier).
SEAROWS SONG SPOTTED HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA (super cool clay)
Wild clay, that’s craziness I guess I got wild clay in my backyard. That sounds insane. How about forage clay naturally found clay but wild.
do you have to disinfect wild clay I am guessing there is a bunch of bacteria in it
That’s soooo cool!!
You might add some temper to that clay depending on how you plan to fire it
What is the slab your using to cure the clay?
Isnt all clay wild clay? Genuinely curious, great video.
Awesome!
Amazing ❤❤❤

You should probably add sand to it so that it doesn't crack.
Nice
How did it fire up?
Gifts from GOD.
Good job~🥀,, Looks like Lot's of Fun~❣️
Great place to harvest more clay in the future
I find clay everywhere of various qualities. In Illinois if you dig pretty much anywhere you will run into a beautiful light gray clay
I have a lot of wild clay at my house. Except it’s really warm out, and it’s drying out. Should I take it in and try to save it?
You can totally do that! I have to do it because Utah is really dry, and usually the prettier clay you find here is dried up. It's when you fire it there's no going back.
Amazing
Awesome ❤
Did the pot survive? A lot of people add grog to their wild clays.
That's awesome
You are a pro
How do you make the wiggly vase on the right of your head? I want to make one too 😍
Love this ❤
Lovely doll
From what I have heard you might need to add something less “plastic” like sand so it doesn’t shrink and crack. 🤷🏻♀️
Can't we create something by any mould ?
It's a very, very ancient process using earth clay
Ok but I need to know where you got the outfit in the last frame. The neutral short button up set
Don't forget to add temper!
How do you dry it?
Cool
But the temper, where's the temper? 🥲 cool vid!
I feel like we need to hook potters up with archaeologists i find clay that is in unbelievable colours. bright blue sometimes
🧤🧤

You are a goddess.... God bless you

Wild? There has to be a better term for natural clay.
FREE
Wild clay? Lmao were did y’all think clay originally came from😂 Etsy?
Personaly am trying to see if anyonr has found the clay i have found its blue and was in a creek im going to do the bucket and straining method as well and see what happens !
Like can u give a nearby town? I heard there might be toxic impurities found in some natural clays
Wild clay? So that's why people are stealing my road.
Praise Father God YHVH for His natural resources❤
