Love the new effects and style of video. I enjoy how you spend time breaking down the difference between the other options along with the info on how to hit the shot. keep up the great work
Your videos are so helpful! No wasted words, just to-the-point and easy to remember. You've made a significant contribution to pickleball instruction for all of us.
I learn so much watching from you’re videos then any other videos, thank you for sharing and taking you’re time to teach us , best regards from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Fantastic Video! The biggest takeaway for me was the importance of footwork and keeping a parallel stance-- Not open or closed stance. Once the footwork is mastered then I can focus on the paddle tip.
Great tips, Tanner. And congrats on your KC tourney. In the live play examples at the end of the video I was looking for tip down paddle as you had advised. However, what I saw was a sideways paddle.
Hey Kris thank you! I noticed that too, I think from the video it looks like that. However on my point of contact there is an ever so slight drop to raise on point of contact!
good stuff yet again; now I just need to go through all the guidance on how to get form 2.5 to 4.0! but seriously I like the attention to detail including the graphics and bells to reinforce the outcome.
Great video, answered all my questions about the why AND how! Cool effects in this video, but ended up being too much of a good thing. Definitely going to work on adding the 2 hander to my game
Great video especially with the longer version rather than a short explanation. The theory is actually a type of speed up shot-hard and fast but controlled!
Dang it Tanner. I knew it would happen soon. Today in drills, I worked on my aggressive twoey backhand dink and love it so much I gave some thought of adding a two handed back hand. An ex Racquetball player, I love my back hand, but at my level I know a 2 handed BH was down the road, that road was very short. I'll put this in next Tuesday's 2 hour drill session, thanks again.
great video! i'm def adding 2 handed BH to my toolset. question. you say to get feet parallel to the sideline (fully open)..i can see why (to allow your body/hips to help rotate to help the shot)...but if ur opponent is closer to NVL and this ends up a bit more of a speedup (or counter) if ur open like this you'll be vulnerable on your FH side. would the advice be: (1) have feet in open position (parallel to the sideline) if ur opponent is back, but more closed (parallel to NVL) when both are at the NVL and it's more of a speedup/counter contest?
It’s a great question, and you are right - there is a balance! I tend to be able to hit A TON more power with my closed stance. However, depending on your background, you may be better at hitting this shot in an open stance. It is different for each player!
This is so true, on our closed stance shots two hands off the bounce really let's you close the chest and get that off-hand shoulder over the ball on contact, whereas the natural position on the one-hander is open chest so the off-hand shoulder is quite far behind the ball
I love your enthusiasm dont change. Im lefty. And, my serve has got better from your tips. My 2 hand backhand is getting better. Steeper paddle angle close to the net?
Bear with me here. What if your one hand shot is really good? Should you learn the two-handed one anyways? I’m only asking because I come from a ping-pong background so I’m able to generate a ton of top spin and keep it low. Nevermind I answered my own question… these are all off of the bounce. Normally, you are correct I’m unable to go back at the person in front of me because with my single hand, I only have enough control generally to hit a cross court shot usually a slice off of the bounce. Aha!
If you have a great one hander, stick with it! I still believe that having a good 2h will help with the opponent being close to the net, as well as give more deception
Wow! What an amazing top spin you’re getting on that two hander! 😮 I’ve been trying this and can’t get it so far so thanks for some tips, will try that again. Now would this be the same technique as a cross kitchen two handed roll?

Switched to a Twoey a few weeks ago. Its what I used as a junior in tennis, so the transition wasn't that hard. Best move I have made. I feel like my backhand is stronger than my forehand. My backhand dink is a weapon now. But I need a lot of work on 2-handed volleys
just the two handed can kind of " force " you to turn more quickly than one handed , because of the natural uncoiling of the body . but with good techniques one handed can still do the same job, you need to use more " gliding " o f your arm and wrist , it"s very delicate that's why in tennis feeder can do it so well, ya not talking about power, just the trajectory and curve.
I need to do this. The only problem I have is the footwork when my 52 year old knees and legs get tired and achey. I have that shot in my arsenal but i get lazy and just want to reach down with a one hander.
I am a 4.3 DUPR and have tried to learn a two handed backhand many times. my footwork is by far the issue and i feel like a baby giraffe that was just born when i try to put it all together on a live point lol
I can hit a two hander easily, because I’ve done it for years in tennis, but it’s weaker than my one hander. I can get more spin but does that make it worth it?
@@t81629 I don't understand the question? Do you think you have to know how to do a 2 handed backhand to be good at pickleball? I'm a 4.3 because after playing in 4 tournaments that's what my Dupr rating got set at.
I'm able to smoke em crosscourt from there and they're deadly. Will work on more TS and some straight hits, those look freakishly unreturnable and unexpected by many. Stop giving away so many tips eh ;)
It isn't easy to make that two-hands habit consistently, especially when the ball is coming too fast. I guess it needs a habit to hold the paddle with two hands all the time. By the way, it's hard to imagine retrieving outgoing balls from the wood in that court. lol.
You can do the same thing with one hand. If you don’t have stability you need to work on the back hand. If it’s power, again work on the back hand. Don’t punch with the back hand follow thru , it’s bad form only that perhaps the second hand corrects by forcing proper form. Learn proper form
Why is a 2h backhand stronger then a 1h backhand. from a physics standpoint they should be equal. Everything you can do with a 2h you can also do with a 1h.
Interesting. But you also lose wrist flexibility. 2h always just felt unnatural. I was a 2h backhand tennis player and it felt unnatural so I am working on doing everything with 1h backhand. I'm working on technique right now. 1h speedup and 1h topspin drive. Its pretty unique but has potential. I've made alot of progress but havent figured everything out yet. Still experimenting.
@@tanner.pickleball not the double, I mean the double with that foot positioning. I use double but keep feet forward when closer to kitchen line; only parallel in no volley and baseline. Will give it a try

Spot on!
Why is a 2h backhand stronger then a 1h backhand. from a physics standpoint they should be equal. Everything you can do with a 2h you can also do with a 1h.
