Ah man 😔 😟 I didn't know, but it was so sweet how she didn't come across as arrogant or entitled.... especially cause she was creating a buzz with her debut album. Such a great moment and the rest was history. She performed this song 🎵 live and it was breath taking.
This song will NEVER not be a classic, probably my all time favorite of hers. A legend, and I still have my CD. Automatic sub for this video. Love you guys. 😊❤ Fun fact: Light of the Sun was made completely through improv. She put the band in different rooms in a studio and just went with the music and sang what she was feeling. Again, a LEGEND! 🙌🏽🙌🏽❤️
Such a beautiful moment between father and son. I loved how dad knew who was as soon as he heard Jill's voice, and he understands her style. Jill Scott is EVERYTHING. New subscriber here. ❤
Her voice is incredibly silky and beautiful. I appreciate how "you love me, you like me" was pointed out. I initially missed that line for the same reason that I got lost in her voice. (Halo by Beyonce always gets me misty eyed)
Same for me and my wife...23 years this December, and this CD played for several of them... every time I hear it it makes me fall in love with her all over again. Congratulations on your longevity as well!
This kid has impeccable taste in music. And clearly his dad does too - seems to enjoy everything I’ve seen the son share with him! A lot of these songs were what I listened to before the son was even born! Good music is timeless 😊
I love how engaged and absorbed he is in the music. He was just vibing it. I enjoyed the music but also loved watching the Dad enjoy it too. He made me smile.
I love your dad. You can tell he’s a really sweet guy with a good heart. The line “You love me you like me” made him think about someone and touched his spirit. I love that you share music with him and music of African American culture bc we have a lot to say and we say it well lol. Great channel. Never a dull moment .
My heart. That’s how you’re supposed to enjoy music. He had to get a tissue.I just melted. This is the most adorable thing. I just found the channel so I hope Dad puts on some classics for his son.
The transition between the singing part and the spoken part ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨It’s interesting that you are talking about the way she cuts words. I sounds like poetry to me translated into a song.
it is very much spoken word. Love rain has a very simlar spoken word poetry vibe. (heck even the intro to the album talks about how shes likes doing poetry XD) so it makes alot of sense! I love that she combineds it into music so well!!
Jilly from Philly is a legend for a reason. That voice is transcendent. You and your dad have to add Meshell Ndegeocello to your lineup. Truly, all of her work is masterful, you can’t go wrong, but her Bitter album is an excellent place to start. Talk about songs that make you feel all the feels. Wonder how your dad would respond to Beyoncé’s ‘Pray You Catch Me’
I went to go see her on Mothers Days this year and she was performing this album from front to back in straight order. When I tell you I just closed my eyes (also had a gummy😜) and sat back and just vibed to each and every lyric, note, adlib, groan, moan how she does it EXACTLY on the album I was in BLISS. I didn't come down off that high for 2 days. Jill Scott will FOREVER be my woman crush 😍 🥰😍🥰
Jill is a writer and poet. So I have always felt her words to be impactful and from her soul and life. Which is why she is one of the best in the r&b subgenre of NeoSoul. Also as she has said her voice is her instrument which I feel she is a master at. Check out her live from Paris album
When Jill Scott does her runs, immediately brings tears to my eyes. One of the best underrated vocalists out today. There is a live performance she did with The Roots--the notes she hits in that performance is something cosmic!
Now, listen close you two! Scott's debut album is flawless. Truly not a bad track, but if you want to really hear her go off vocally, wait until you get to Experience: 826+ so named for her Washington D.C. concert. Insane vocals throughout & some great bonus tracks & remixes including Free, Be Ready, Gimme, & Got Get Up (Another Day). I think you would also like Daydreamin' with Lupe Fiasco. That song still gets played in commercials & shows.
I saw her perform this, this summer and I got goosebumps. The daddy's emotion is spot on when you hear this! To love and be loved this way! What a time to be alive
Can you explain to me what “incite me to chorus” means in a guy covering this song and I don’t want to put it in mine if it means what I think it means 😂

The first 3 mins of that 9 min song are the best part. If it was a single, that would become the radio edit. I think Making You Wait is even better. So Gone is my other fav from that album.
Pronounced Lie-Zell. Great video! Love your dad's reaction!!!! Also, Jill is a poet and spoken word artist. So yes, it's something done in rap but also in poetry. It's all intertwined. She is one of the top of the top of her craft.
I've been to many concerts, and I can truly say that Jilly from Philly sounds the best ever in a live performance. She sounds just as she does on the album. It's so beautiful
Jill comes from the spoken word poetry world, so that's probably the influence you're hearing more than rapping. If you haven't already, you should really listen to the live version of "He Loves Me" from her Experience Jill Scott: 826 album, even if you don't do it on the channel. Amazing performance.

Ah man 😔 😟 I didn't know, but it was so sweet how she didn't come across as arrogant or entitled.... especially cause she was creating a buzz with her debut album. Such a great moment and the rest was history. She performed this song 🎵 live and it was breath taking.
Dad is definitely invited to the cookout! I love how he is so moved by great music. Beautiful to witness
It really is. I’m the same way. I cried watching Sam Smiths Tiny Desk yesterday 😂 music is God’s gift to us. No doubt.
@lifeiswhatyoumakeit yep, they are definitely invited to my 50th birthday/Hip Hop party(50 yrs of hip hop)
Dad earned a seat at the ELDER'S table fa sho!! He gettin his plate first and all that!
Damn! Stop inviting ppl to the darn cookout!!
@@goddessnoir290Agreed!!!
That whole entire CD is pure gold. Love Jill Scott!!!
Ms. Scott started as a poet, which is why she is an amazing lyrical vocalist 🎉
TOTALLY AGREE! I still have mine too!!! 🔥💯
Same with it being my favorite of hers. Just the instrumental alone is smooth asf. Then how her voice comes in and glides with it is just .. ooo
MIne as well!! ✌🏾❤️🙏🏾
This song is on every single phone I’ve ever had on life this is my shit!!!!
Jill Scott live is phenomenal. Her voice is so angelic. The studio sound doesn’t capture her voice as it really is go see her live 🎉
I've only seen her once years ago, SHE WAS PHENOMENAL!!!!
Just love that the father and son has great music knowledge and give their take on the song. So positive
People always say, "I wish I could go back and hear that song for the first time again". These vids are the next best thing.
This is our song! 23 yrs strong! This song played a pivotal part in falling in love with my husband!
This is my dream! I hope your romance continues to blossom, I love this for y’all so much!
Dad got so excited when he realize it was Jill Scott 😊!!
I love how engaged and absorbed he is in the music. He was just vibing it. I enjoyed the music but also loved watching the Dad enjoy it too. He made me smile.
Couldn't have said it better
I love your dad. You can tell he’s a really sweet guy with a good heart. The line “You love me you like me” made him think about someone and touched his spirit. I love that you share music with him and music of African American culture bc we have a lot to say and we say it well lol. Great channel. Never a dull moment .
Yes. Please take him down the Jill Scott discography. Especially live versions. ❤❤❤😂😂
My heart. That’s how you’re supposed to enjoy music. He had to get a tissue.I just melted. This is the most adorable thing. I just found the channel so I hope Dad puts on some classics for his son.
I’ve done a few of my favourites from way back. I’m a Man, Medicated Goo, Night Flight, Roundabout, etc. More to come!
His emotional response, actually moved me to tears
I think you should do the whole album...Dad will LOVE it🥰🥰
They definitely should 🥰🤍🤍
The transition between the singing part and the spoken part ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨It’s interesting that you are talking about the way she cuts words. I sounds like poetry to me translated into a song.
it is very much spoken word. Love rain has a very simlar spoken word poetry vibe. (heck even the intro to the album talks about how shes likes doing poetry XD) so it makes alot of sense! I love that she combineds it into music so well!!
Exactly
Jilly from Philly is a legend for a reason. That voice is transcendent. You and your dad have to add Meshell Ndegeocello to your lineup. Truly, all of her work is masterful, you can’t go wrong, but her Bitter album is an excellent place to start. Talk about songs that make you feel all the feels. Wonder how your dad would respond to Beyoncé’s ‘Pray You Catch Me’
Yes! Her!
I agree Ms. Ndegeochello is a bad sistah. Love everything she does. ❤
The way Dad lights up when he recognizes Jill's voice is such a joy to watch. She makes me feel the same way.
I saw that concert and I was overcome with emotion. It was fabulous.
I can totally see, imagine and feel what you described! She’s such an incredible artist. Would love to experience her live! 🥰🙌🏾😎
What a beautiful experience. ❤
I saw her this year. Even though she came to my city I decided to go see her in Philly. It was such a great show.
Jealous!!
I truly believe that this embodies the affirmation that a true man needs and wants to hear from the woman he has chosen to love genuinely.
Facts
Jill is a writer and poet. So I have always felt her words to be impactful and from her soul and life. Which is why she is one of the best in the r&b subgenre of NeoSoul. Also as she has said her voice is her instrument which I feel she is a master at. Check out her live from Paris album
I absolutely love this song..... great reaction... the album is in my top 5 I've bought in my life.
Masterpiece.
Masterpiece
This is such a pure appreciation of music. I wish more people saw all genres like this.
I COMPLETELY agree!!! ✌️💖
Don’t forget “Not Like Crazy”. That Jill doesn't have ALL the awards is a crime against humanity.
💯🙌🏾
That’s hands down one of the best live albums ever recorded❤️
@@brieanaduckett-graves6234 yep!
Your dad is the best! He seems like an incredible person.
I saw her perform this, this summer and I got goosebumps.
The daddy's emotion is spot on when you hear this!
To love and be loved this way! What a time to be alive
Yep, saw her in the ATL. A friend gave me tickets as a bday present
I saw her in Nashville back in April. Love her so much!
Me too! I saw her at Hollywood Bowl. So good!
Saw her at Essence Fest. Really special - I live in the U.K. so was such a treat
The son's pleasing smile a he listens is so satisfying
I love his reaction to Jill’s voice once he recognized her. The song touched his heart and caused him to weep..
I love your Dad.❤️💕his music appreciation is great!
Jill vocals are unmatched ❤ she always gives me chills.. one of the greatest vocalist
"You love me, you like me, excite me to chorus" her writer's pen is exceptional.
Also it was written about her husband at the time, Lyzel.
It’s “incite” instead of “excite” but your point is absolutely correct.
Long time Jill Scott fan here » Lyzel wasn't her husband he was her long time boyfriend at the time!
Can you explain to me what “incite me to chorus” means in a guy covering this song and I don’t want to put it in mine if it means what I think it means 😂
@@cameronleecarter I always took it to mean he makes her want to sing.
Incite is to encourage so it's like he's making her want to sing (the chorus).
I love this! Dad had me crying! I love how he knew it was Jill after only hearing her twice before. Seeing her live is life changing. I saw her in philly. We stood outside in the pouring rain and it was MAGICAL! Thank you for starting my morning off right
I literally screamed YASSS! when that man started crying 😂😂😂 That's the power of Jill Scott!! I feel you boo! 💯❤️
I love it!!!! Jill is amazing (it’s Ly-Zelle)
Listen to Le BOOM VENT SUITE on her “Light of the sun album. I’m sure your dad will love the transitions and instrumentation.
The first 3 mins of that 9 min song are the best part. If it was a single, that would become the radio edit. I think Making You Wait is even better. So Gone is my other fav from that album.
I love that version.
Ohhhh that’s a good one
Le boom vent suite is my favorite song
Her voice is sooooo hypnotizing and soothing.
Pronounced Lie-Zell. Great video! Love your dad's reaction!!!! Also, Jill is a poet and spoken word artist. So yes, it's something done in rap but also in poetry. It's all intertwined. She is one of the top of the top of her craft.
I stumbled onto this and was transported right back to my first time experiencing Jill over 20 years ago. This was beautiful. I needed this. ❤️
Your dad was really meditating on Jill Scott’s words. He was feeling every word😊
One of my favorite soul artists. Her, Erika and Lauren are the epitome of modern soul IMO. I love all of them equally.
My favorite album of all time. I finally saw Jill live this past summer for the first time. She is absolutely amazing!
Isn't she? 1 of the best performances I've seen.
Agreed. Saw her years ago with Maxwell. Best show ever.
I haven’t seen her live yet and I’m from Philly too, can’t wait to see her live ❤
Dad is so sweet 😊
I love dad’s reaction when he realizes it Jill singing…… 😍
The pauses are reminiscent of a poetry flow. Which runs into rap. I love it.
I feel you pop. This song does the same thing to me 😭
This song is sooooo dreamy… puts me in a trance every time! ❤
This is the sweetest moment to see the joy on your Dad’s face. And the happiness on the son’s face. Jill Scott is magical!
I remember when my mom would play this album when i was younger. Now at 25 i just UNDERSTAND NOW
I've been to many concerts, and I can truly say that Jilly from Philly sounds the best ever in a live performance. She sounds just as she does on the album. It's so beautiful
Now y’all HAVE to react to a live performance of this song! Her performance that’s titled “Jill Scott - He Loves Me (Live & Rare)!”
Jill comes from the spoken word poetry world, so that's probably the influence you're hearing more than rapping. If you haven't already, you should really listen to the live version of "He Loves Me" from her Experience Jill Scott: 826 album, even if you don't do it on the channel. Amazing performance.
Dad's reaction warms my heart💌 You have no idea what an antidote your content is to all the nativity.
This song was mine, and one of my partners, who passed away. I loved her deeply. Every time I hear it,I am taken back and see our love and time together play like a movie, in my mind. That is the magic of Jill Scott
I love how sensitive this man is.. he allows himself to show his emotion.. so endearing ❤️.
