First Overnight E BikePacking Setup - Long Range on a Himiway Cruiser
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лис 2024
- Can you create a bikepacking setup on an e-bike without the proper bikepacking bags? All while hauling some irregular gear? Maybe, but you will have to get creative! In this video I'm preparing for my first overnight bikepacking or bike touring trip. Just got my first e-bike, a long range Himiway Cruiser, and I've decided to take it camping so I've got to figure out how to make it work with what I have on hand.

He's spending $90+ for a flashlight and $15 for a bike lock? Dude, your priorities! Subscribed cuz I have a Himiway, too. Which I love.
Lol, I already had the bike lock and they sent the flashlight free ;) Himiway seems to make a nice bike!
Would love to see some more bikepacking trips, they’re so fun! Maybe a cargo bike like the Aventon abound or something similar would work better for your packing needs!
They are fun! I've seen that cargo bike.... Not sure if that's in the cards for me though.
Thumbs up for your enthusiasm in the videos, great tips for trips! I'm rigging up my Himiway Cobra to hopefully do some ebike camping this Summer.
Cool! This was interesting. I used to bicycle tour before I started kayak camping. I actually still have all my panniers and packs from 20 years ago. Good to see you doing something new, you'll love it!
HEy glad you enjoyed it bud! Very cool! Get back out there on the road ;)
I don't see any tire repair items in there! I used to bike camp on an old Schwinn 10 speed but I had back and front panniers to carry all my gear. I was used to riding about 10 miles a day all the time, so making a 35 miles camping trip wasn't much harder. Of course, this was before all the cell phones and drivers texting, I'd never risk it now.
Nope.... didnt have any lol I know, it is pretty risky when you think about it.....
NICE! Just bought a Suzuki DR650 Adventure/Dual Sport bike, going to start camping off of it, cannot wait!
Oh very cool David! Enjoy that bad boy!
Sweet, can't wait for the video! 60 miles seems like a lot of range, curious to see how it works out. You're going to catch the bike packing bug!
It is a lot of range! But you can always pedal ;)
Cant wait to see the video on the trip. Would love to see video of the free diving.
Ohyea! Fun stuff!
Trip, huge fan. I like your check lists. Where is the link to your checklist? Also, California is call you!!!! Catalina? 😁
Hey thanks Gregg!!! Here ya go - tripsmith.live/planning-tools/ I'd love to do Catalina one day!
Typically the assistance on ebikes gives you help up to a predetermined speed. Level 1 usually helps out until you reach 12, and each assist level after will add 3mph as you go up. That's the standard setup for most ebikes. SOME of them have torque sensors that will give you more or less help depending on how hard you're pedaling, but still only up to the predetermined speed for each level.
Yea, this one is the first of the two ways you described. I like it!
Total gibberish. All ebikes are different, with different motor types, different wheel sizes, different weights, and more importantly different gearing. Gearing is what determines speed, not the motor's h.p. or torque. In this particular case, it's not *arbitrary*.
I just got a cheap engwe 350 watt motor 48 volt 10 ah battery but mod it with a secound battery kit and it has 40 AH and since it top out at 18 to 20 mph on flat road I can still use bike lane
The ebike + trailer combo is like a heavenly pair (chocolate + wine, strawberries + champagne, sardines + potatoes, or peanut butter + jelly etc). Burly makes one for every adventure and all are reasonably priced. My fave is the B.O.B mono-wheel trailer (simple, light, time-tested) and ExtraWheel has a fat tire version that is tops. Keep in mind, you can rig the mono-wheel trailers with a generator hub to charge devices or power lights.
An ebike + trailer combo is the killer app of transportation that the Europeans have been discovering for years. Between the high costs of operating a vehicle (registration, insurance, tickets, fuel, maintenance, repairs, storage, etc) and the ecological harm they cause, personal transportation is undergoing radical change in most European countries. The only thing better than an ebike + trailer is a cargo ebike + trailer!
Thanks for the info I will look them up, because yes I agree that those mono-wheel trailers looked like the best accessory ever for camping. I just wasn’t aware that you could use them on ebikes that didn’t offer trailer attachment (like Bakcou Mule does).
Nice wheels Trip. I like it.
My advice, you’re gonna want a narrower and less squishy seat. Soft seat cushions equal a hard ride.
Next tip, have a different brand/shape chamois for each day of riding. So you don’t have the same padding and seams rubbing the same places the same way all day every day.
Get out there!
Thanks! Great tips! thanks J DUB!
I think you need to pull a small trailer. How are you planning on charging your bike during the day? You will most likely have to stop at least once to charge. Also get a pair of cheap, smaller fins.
Trying to avoid the trailer if possible. I just charged when I got to my campsite. For freediving, I much prefer the longer fins, they are a game changer ;)
Get a "bike trailer" they're mostly used for toddlers but you can find a lot on Amazon
If I can't figure somehting else out, I might go that route ;P
Nice bike man! We have been looking at electric bikes to take RV camping. look forward to seeing how it goes!
Sure is! Hope you enjoy the future content ;)
For shelter if you go bike camping again have a look at the topeak bikamper rent its pretty neat
I need to check it out! Thanks!
Excellent!!!!!!
I love riding emtb!
I have a cube stereo hybrid 160 sl. It an enduro style full suspension emtb (160mm rear travel 170mm front) ive put an angleset on it to adjust the head angle to 63.5 degrees which also makes the wheelbase slightly longer which all means its much better descending steep terrain and more stable at speed. You should try borrow a proper full sus ebike.
I would hand on heart recommend the cube especially for value for money its excellent. However, i do want to get my hands on a fulgur mula with the polini motor
Nice! Dang, just looked up that bike. That thing is SWEET! I think I'm going to be getting a Himiway Cobra Pro in the future. Wish I had something more like the Cube. I'd like to get away from the fat tire but it's all I've got so I going with it lol
cant wait for someone to send u a ducati in the mail and the video
Heck yea!!!!
hey does someone have the packing list i cant find the link and i really want the list?
Good lord, you may want to get a trailer, lol
Trying to avoid that lol I'd have all kinds of junk loaded on that thing!
The fast I ever gone was about 50 mile a hour on the 331 bridge
Nice!
I'm 6ft tall, trying to get a comparison of how big the bike is. How tall are you?
I’m trying to find out what the best Bikepacking ebike is with a Bosch motor.
Me and you both Joe! I'm looking for one that doesn't have fat tires but they are tough to find for less that $2k but most of them are like $4k-$6k..... I just recently got a good deal on a hybrid road/commuter bike that I'll be doing some gravel trips on coming up. One thing I'll be looking into is a electric conversion kit for it. That way I can get a good sized battery and it be affordable. Stay tuned ;)
@@TripSmith unfortunately I have realized that Bosch motors max out at 85 Nm or torque, and never have throttle (they exclusively cater to European specs). I’m leaning toward the 160 Nm torque Bakcou Mule because I’m interested in an ebike that can lug a heavy trailer up steep hills. REALLY wish that Bosch entered into this category!!
@@joebuck4496 My thoughts are aiming for a lightweight setup where power isn't a big deal. If I need to lug a heavy trailer up a hill, most batteries will not last long. I'll need to plan short days to a campsite that has power to recharge.
Bicycle trailer?
Yeah, I thought the same thing!
Trying to avoid that if possible... If I had a trailer, I'd be loading it up with all kinds of junk lol
60 miles one way ...did the battery range last that long?
It still had some juice like I described. But I was helping by pedaling quite a bit!
Define "Long range".
Worthy
Did you get this from the company to review?
Yes, pretty much.
Vortex I have bin there
Nice spot!
hell yah i use my hmy. for hunting
Love my Himiway. But my guys sandals have to go.
Haha! I love my Jesus sandals!
A lightweight trailer would work without looking like the Beverly hillbillies of bike packing like my brother if you're short on racks
True... But it would limit me a in a few ways and encourage me to bring more junk lol
Bro.......If you want a real bike and do a real road trip give me a call. As far as gear goes, Kayak gear works for a motorcycle perfectly. They both can carry about the same amount so that is how I buy all my gear. With motorcycle and kayak in mind.
I used to really want a enduro type bike.... But then I started working at the fire department and learned quickly that it wasn't in my best interest. But I'm sure it would be super fun!!!!
@@TripSmith I understand, most accidents are not caused by a rider following the speed limits. Everyone is either not paying attention or for some psychotic reason playing on their phones while driving.
@@TripSmith how are you being safe out there in this crazy world
Your going to get the motorcycle bug you keep riding that thing! 🤣 There is nothing like twisting throttle and feeling raw horsepower and speed. I keep about 6 bungees in my saddle bag. I can run 120 mph and they keep everything snug. You just need to strap Port to Stbd and Fwd Aft, that way your load can not shift in any direction.
What's the top speed?
About 28mph throttle only I think.
Looking forward to it! 👍
Glad to hear that Remy!
You’re patreon link is broken
Ahhhh! Well thanks for trying it!!!
Fixed it ;)

👋😎👍
Yes sir!
Dude......bike trailer? They are cheap.
Yea.... If I can't figure out another way, I'd go bike trailer. But what if I wanted to hit a trail or something? Jump a curb? lol
Wtf are you wearing on your feet?
Nest time show road not ur face
