    Thank you for this very informative video of a much loved , long lost system. The data on the links to the tramways and Norfolk and Suffolk especially valuable.

    Another great video, back in the very early 80s to 85 I was a barrow boy at the beach coach station, I remember very clearly the canopies and platforms although the outer platform had been severly truncated but the one nearest to the road was still full length and at the end slope was a opening which exited the station right opposite the cemetery gates on Nelson Road, also at the end of the platform, nearest to the road were 2 plate layers huts of the usual concrete construction, these were being used to store deck chairs of all things. One summer 82? The station refreshments room was reopened it had double doors which opened onto Nelson Road opposite the cafe , the room had a timber parquet floor and a serving counter which had coloured stained glass 3/4 up to ceiling level, and by the door leading out to the canopied platform was a A4 size framed notice giving a brief description of the stations history this was placed at head height on the left hand side of the door. My Saturdays barrowing were busy hundreds of coaches coming in the air was blue with the smell of diesel, it wasn't usual to make £15 to £20 , which I spent on records. I must have stopped barrowing in 84 , 85 as I don't remember the building of John winter Court at the North end of the station and those flats went up in 84 , the station was demolished in 86 the year I left yarmouth high school in which the railway used to run alongside.

      That`s fantastic, thank you so much for this sort of information which you cannot find anywhere else, only from people that have experienced it.

    Great video, I explored the White Swan Yard area in 2008, the pub had some photos of the Class 03 shunting engines used on the quay line, I had a look at the site of Yarmouth Beach station in 2008 and again in 2020.

    You have done a great job of showing the then and now. It must have taken you a long time to do this and hopefully now recorded for posterity. Thank you

      Retracing the GER, M&GN and N&SJ lines is fascinating. I often walk and cycling the sections that are still accessible. Again, really enjoyed all your videos on these - thanks.

    I couldn’t recall Yarmouth Beach, but I can remember the line as it passed under Jellicoe Rd and ran beside the racecourse and the caravan site. Enjoyable video, Thanks.

      Thank you for your comment. Yes and after the caravan site onto Caister across Beach Road and into the station. I have done a video of that line up to North Walsham and to Melton Constable.

      @@nutmeg5032 Although I never saw this part of Great Yarmouth’s railways in operation, I have always been fascinated by it. In particular I have wondered whether anything other than a shunting engine with trucks was able to get through the narrow White Swan gap and connect with Vauxhall Station and the tramway?

    • @nutmeg5032
      @nutmeg5032  3 роки тому

      @@davidkitchen7941 As far as I know it was only ever shunting engines, because after the White Swan the line was classed as a street tramway and i`m sure there would have been restrictions of various kinds to prevent anything larger.

    Another fantastic video. I’ve learnt so much from this. Would be interesting to know if this lines would make money now?

      Thanks Graham, yes that is a very interesting question which I have asked myself many times.
      I think given the right management, promotion and fares structure its possible they would at least break even and provide a service into the bargain.

      Yes Graham, I haven't forgotten, I`ve done the research and intro, just need to get out and film when these restrictions are eased.

    Why do u call the Breydon Viaduct bridge 'infamous.' ??

    • @nutmeg5032
      @nutmeg5032  Рік тому

      Because, although I’m talking about the present one, when it opens it causes huge traffic jams in Yarmouth.

      @@nutmeg5032 Mmmm. Why would the opening of Breydon Viaduct bridge - a RAILWAY bridge - cause traffic jams in Yarmouth ??
      The only bridge I know of that caused traffic jams in Yarmouth, was HAVEN Bridge. I was a bus conductor in Yarmouth in the 60's, and am very well aquainted with Haven bridge.
