Just found your very interesting video, now looking for more of yours, Just to mention that my brother Sid Coleman is a retired Caister Volunteer Lifeboat man, and when the Caister Volunteers formed over 50 years ago, he along with the others were part of this group. There are not many of the older members left now, my brother is 88 years old. On Lifeboat day a few weeks ago, we both went down, and he found a couple of the old boys to chat to, he had a wonderful afternoon.
@@margaretchurchill5775 Thank you for your comments. Yes Caister is much more than a holiday destination. It has a very interesting history. Glad you enjoyed the lifeboat day. We had a good meal in the new cafe.
Small error at Raynham Park it was the end of the single line from Grimston road and the line became double track all the way to Corpusty and Saxthorpe on the line to Great Yarmouth line, Not a passing loop as stated! Hope this is helpful, Thanks.
Thanks for your comment, i'm afraid I didn't look at my old map carefully enough. Yes the line was actually doubled from Fakenham to Raynham Park and opened in June 1900, and as you rightly say did continue as double track as far as Corpusty.
The bridge 341 Windmill Road at 10:49, has under the road been filled in or can you still walk under the road (if you brave the undergrowth)?
I`m sorry but I wasn`t able at the time to check underneath the road and I haven`t been back since so I can`t answer your question.
Runaway loco at 3:14! I thought that coupling looked a bit dodgy early on. My 7 1/4” loco has a breakaway connector in series with the motor circuit which cuts power if that happens.
This is very cool. If I had a garden I would build one 😎
Thanks, maybe one day you will, I had to wait 67 years before I built mine.
Hi , at the 12.25 minute mark there was on the lhs the 1958 connection a link was built giving access to the GER line from the M&GN , this connection was a sad waste of money as the M&GN closed as a thru route 28/2/59 ,although probably used alot by demolition trains, makes me wonder whether that was the intention all along, it makes sense the more i think about it, because cromer high station was used as storage for reclaimed items when the M&GN was being destroyed.
Thank you for your comment and information. I did find out about that connection but unfortunately too late for the video, but thanks again.
Excellent series of films.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed them.
do you volunteer on any north wales railways?
No I was only there on holiday.
do you have to pull up the track for winter?
No, I leave it down but if you use wooden sleepers make sure they are treated with preservative. It will also need a good clean after winter.
@@nutmeg5032 thanks
What do you use to make sure the tracks are 5inches apart?
@@AdamWebb-by4st I use a metal gauge I think I show it in the video.
@@nutmeg5032 just saw it sorry,thanks
thanks for the upload really helpful❤Is there any east way to flattern out the landsape and whats the max gradient for a loco with 4 people thanks
Thanks for your comments. There is no easy way except hard work. Unless you have room for a small digger. Keep gradients to the minimum possible, the maximum depends on the type of locos and rolling stock. Obviously 4 children are lighter than adults.
@@nutmeg5032 thanks for the quick response, I'm looking at building a railway in my back garden and its going to need lots of curves. Im just wondering how you created your curves so evenly, do you need a template or anything when your bending the rail? Also do you know how much the alice quarry hunslet steam loco can pull. many thanks
Good video, I can remember South Town when it was the offices for Santa Fe. I'm a bit young to remember the Lowestoft - Yarmouth trains. I'm only 50! Platform 1 at Lowestoft is still Yarmouth trains only! hehe
Thanks for your comments.
Thanks for this video. We passed by today and wondered what was there, why etc. Alot of questions answered!
Good, glad to have helped. Thanks for your comments.
Thank you so much for making your videos, i really do enjoy watching them. Having visited Pensthorpe nature reserve today, i just need to let you know that the section of line you filmed there was the GER Dereham to Wells line. The M&GN line ran slightly to the North in the reserve, and has been largely wiped off the map. The only surviving M&GN feature i could find was culvert 92, which is close to the cafe and shop. I had to use google maps to keep track of where the M&GN line ran.
Thanks for your comments and information. I must admit I was slightly confused when I got there plus I was still getting over paying the entrance fee.
Ha yes i had to pay £14.95 to get in. Lovely place, but not cheap. The M&GN line in the middle of the reserve is now ponds, re-landscaped paths and rampant vegetation. Looking at the maps, only the Western and Eastern edges of the line in the reserve are still in place, but these sections are off limits. The GER line has a protection order on it, so maybe one day it will be used again.
I’ve got a green one whith a gray roof
I did think of doing mine green but I already had a blue body for my Cl 35.
@@nutmeg5032no sense in changing it it’s a gorgeous loco and a very smart paint job
Just like Harrogate in the 1980’s losing its shunting yard to a supermarket development , removing all railway infrastructure other than the bare essential lines into a station. Perhaps some sidings are ripe for development but all loop lines should be held in railway ownership because plans change and there could come a time when they decide need to re use.
Fortunately the sidings at Yarmouth now are home to about 70 redundant carriages, some will find use elsewhere.
Sad how UK has stripped out all its sidings and redundant loop lines.
Yes I think they regret it now.
Makes you wonder
It sure does.
Cat-ch Points ! Very good.

Great video. I’ve driven past Langor Bridge Signal Box many times without understanding the course of the railway.
Thanks for your comments. Yes I had done the same until I researched for this video.
A really enjoyable series of videos. Thanks for your effort 👍Heart breaking that the M&GN lines closed down.
Thank you for your comments, much appreciated. I agree about the closure, but unfortunately some places were already served by the GER, and some stations were not very close to the villages that they served, it was the old story, use it or lose it.
Another great vid and insight into the old line.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
nice one Michael very interesting👍👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂 atb Kev

Thank you for your research and excellent presentation.
Thank you for your kind comments.
My father worked on the relay gang late forties to mid fifties, much of the track on the M and GN was renewed at that time. New signalling, new turntable at Melton Constable, brand new steam locomotives in 1951/2. They were building a new engine shed at South Lynn when the line closed, terrible waste.
Thank you for your comments and interesting information. Yes many parts of the country had lines closed not long after infrastructure had been replaced or rebuilt. No joined up thinking and a waste of time and money.
So much is now unknown to most people, keep up the good work.
Thank you for your comments.
Hi Michael Nice one Sacrilege all these lost Railways🚂🚂😰😰👍👍👍👍👍👍 atb Kev

As a kid I loved this
I REALLY REALLY like the idea that the museum is open all the way up until 9pm - but is it ONLY about trolleybuses the whole day? will there be other vehicles to enjoy to? also, since it is a special event, do I need to prebook?
You don’t have to prebook and usually there are, trolleybuses, buses, trams and a narrow gauge railway. Plus sometimes other vehicles as well.
Do you know if the event takes place in 2024? I haent seen anyting on their website.@@nutmeg5032

You have done a great job of showing the then and now. It must have taken you a long time to do this and hopefully now recorded for posterity. Thank you
Thank you for your kind comments, much appreciated.
A very interesting set of videos. Have you considered doing a similar series covering the Waveney Valley line, from Tivetshall to Beccles, which runs throught what is now my home town, Bungay? Trouble is I'm not sure how much of the pjysical infrastructure is still in situ.
Thanks for your comment. You make an interesting suggestion but I have done most of the lines in Norfolk which have the most infrastructure such as along the Weavers and Marriott’s Ways. I might research some other lines which have the most to offer after Christmas
Thoroughly enjoyed the video.
Thanks for your comment , much appreciated.
Brilliant. Thank you for producing this video. It is a shame that County School Station remains isolated from the MNR.
Yes it is but unfortunately there are many obstacles in the way. Maybe the MNR could put on a bus transfer for to view the station and ride on the miniature railway.
nice one Michael like the proposed ME club layout atb👍👍👍👍 Kev
Thanks Kev, it should be a good layout. I just hope that with no passing trade they can keep going . Atb Michael
I love channels like this! Walking these trackbeds makes one realize how fast nature envelopes some features! When it comes to the plantation bit it looks as if there weren't as many trees that close to the embankment so maybe leaves may not have been such a problem on the line, but I could be wrong 😁 Thanks 👍
Thanks for your comments. I think you are right, I think they recognised the fire risk from steam engines so kept the line side clear.
A really enjoyable walk. Thank you for the video.
Thank you for your comments, glad you enjoyed it.
Very enjoyable, looks like a lovely walk! Those 'pictures' on the rail benches? No, haven't a clue what they are meant to depict either!😂
Oh good, I thought I was the only one who didn’t see what they were. Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed the video.
