I follow you since 2016, love your videos and you're way to doing them!! And it was because of you that I choose Pisa as my university town just because there was a snooker room near by. Unfortunally now I'm stuck in bed with a broken ankle and I can't play for a little while, but every video that you've made helped me a lot to start playing this beautifull game. Rocco, Palmi (RC) ITALIA! ps. sorry for my english
I've said it before, I'll say it again... BFL, bartons and Barry stark are my favorite snooker channels. Keep up the great work!!❤️ Cheers from Bobby - Pennsylvania, USA
I also recommend Nic Barrow "Snooker Coaching At The Snooker Gym", I think he goes into more detail than Barton. I also really like DrDaveBilliards even though it's for pool, 90% of the theoretical knowledge translates over to snooker.
Awaiting more of this series, very informative! Interesting to see how The Rocket adopted the style of Steve Davis virtually completely during his younger ages, as he states in his autobiography, "Running".
This is a great little series. It's good for the younger generation to know of the older greats. His book is riveting, lol, actually it's not too bad, the first chapter is cracking, about his dad and the Joe Davis Snooker Bible! Practically all of Steve's game is in that book. I bought a copy as soon as I read it. He's a fantastic pool player as well, won a lot of trophies and tournaments.
Some very useful playing tips buried in this. I think Davis got his "interesting" nickname from Spitting Image after a televised final in the early 1980s where he was asked what he'd done during a break between sessions - "ate a cheese sandwich and read a Belgian snooker magazine", he replied. I clearly remember watching this moment live, because it as funny, but have I imagined it?
Spitting image is referenced in this (by referenced I mean there’s a short clip 8 minutes in). Can’t remember about the cheese sandwich and Belgian Snooker magazine but it seems like something he’d do
@@Breakfromlife I've worked my way through nearly all of your videos now, since taking up playing in January, and of all the dozens of useful tips buried therein (sometimes deeply buried, it has to be said), I think the one that most sticks in mind the most is: "Play the shot at the slowest pace you think you can get away with." Can I offer you a tip in return? Or at least your thoughts? I've notice I play more accurately in hard-soled leather shoes, than comfy big trainers. I think the cushion and 'give' in sneakers can actually sink you (minutely) off the 'line' as you cue. I know it sounds bonkers - maybe it is - and I'm only a beginner, but these tiny fractions seem to count in snooker.
i want to see 'how break from life changed snooker forever' :-) another great vid with some useful tips too. cant wait to get down the snooker hall and try that compact backswing.
Hello from Illinois USA I wish snooker was more popular here! We have to drive at least an hour away to play on a 9' snooker table and 5 hours for a 12' 😩
OMG! I live in a village of 5000 inhabitants in Cambridgeshire England, and we have one (a full size 12') at our local social club, as does the neighbouring town of 5000 about two miles away. The nearest larger town about 7 miles away has at least 3, probably more. A 5 hour drive would mean me driving to Scotland to have a game of snooker!! That's insane!
One thing you did not mention on the rise of snooker popularity was the change from Black and White TV to colour TV this made a huge difference for the viewing audience.
And it was on BBC2 which we did not all have immediately. We only got it when the old tv expired. New rental set, new aerial...Pot Black in black and white...plus alias Smith and Jones! Happy days! Great video as ever ,thanks.
That’s why I was thinking of doing one about how David Attenborough changed Snooker because he was running bbc2 at the time. Don’t know if he did anything other than that so might be a short video
Met him at a local pub he was playing at where he played 4 of the pubs' best pool players (who were available). I didn't win my game but was on the black before him and missed the black pot a few times because I was focusing on doubles 😅 Was a great joy and he was such a lovely gentleman. In the end, we won two games and he won two games!
Steve Davis played for so long he was good in the 80s he retired in 2016 around 40 years he played he played against players like ray reardon to John spencer to Alex Higgins to Stephen hendry to ronnie and even Mark selby
8:01; That is not the same shot as Steve Davis' famous missed shot. The black ball is much closer to the lower cushion (and maybe a bit further from the side cushion) making the angle much worse, and the shot much more difficult; 7:36 (for comparison)
@@Breakfromlife This player analysis was great! It's not very often in Snooker or any individual sport that anyone other than players get recognition, rightly so though, they're what we want to see.
I don't think there's anyone from Brazil on the map yet, so I just have to ask you to put Curitiba there. Snooker is not very famous around here. In fact, pretty much everybody calls eight ball snooker. But that doesn't mean I can't have some fun with this great game.
It does seem that Higgins, Davis and Hendry really did change the game and made it what it is today Higgins gained the game that initial publicity that made being a Snooker player a viable career, Davis brought the technique to the game that so many rely on, and Hendry changed how most people play, by getting into the reds early and playing to score heavily They all played their part, and while Higgins never was that dominant force like Davis or Hendry, the game does owe him a lot
Hi. I've watched all your videos many times over. I play several times a week and struggle to get more than a 40 break. I find when doing practice routines, that I am out of position after only a few shots. Should I persist to get back into position or restart the whole routine? I'm from Shoalhaven Heads in Australia.
Keep going because you need to know what shot to play in some strange places some times. Learning to control the CueBall isn’t easy. Can take a long time to get right. You have to be able to play a positional shot without any indecision
Yeah that’s actually a seriously good point. How much longer can you use them for? Just googled it over a year gone by already. Um I need to pay attention more
More natural ability in certain players is somewhat of a myth.Steve Davis put in a lot of work but you don't have his ability if you are not born to play snooker.Don't get me wrong Jimmy White(my favourite player) and Alex Higgins were great talents and better to watch but surely all the very top players had natural ability.
Perhaps if Alex Higgins had worn plain black waistcoat and plain black tie, while Davis had worn flamboyant waistcoats and open neck shirt, but everything else was the same, it would have been different? :)
Damm man. You forgot about me bro. Oh btw are you right eyed? But it doesn't matter right? As long as it is our vision center. I seems to cue better by putting the cue over my left chin but I'm right eyed
Yes because in Snooker where you use both eyes your dominant eye is a bit irrelevant. You can actually test it by looking a the reflection of the white in a close object ball that your lined up dead straight to. Then just moving your head around until it looks exactly in the middle
@@Breakfromlife I went to Bloc festival in Minehead in 2016, he played a great set with Kavus, and there was a pool tournament with all the DJs competing and Steve doing commentary. The winner got to play against him. He was really good fun, and he was obviously having a great time himself. Interesting!
Don't for the "all done through hard work" nonsense. He was also an incredibly talented player. I don't think we appreciated just how good he was at the time. If it was just hard work, then every kid would have been doing it. A lot of money was sloshing around when tobacco companies could get their names in front of 18 million viewers for hour after hour.
Yes he made it hard to watch boring robotic dreary My dad who loved snooker said players like him would get snooker stopped You have to entertain when playing a sport for an audience
He made it the most boring game to watch, because he was English he was adored Stephen hendry and rocket Ronnie far better players and if they had been around in the eighties he would have been just another player filling the runners up spot now and again
Got to play him in an exhibition, true gent and legend. Showed what it takes in terms of hard work and dedication.
