I might be totally wrong because I don’t foil, however I still use my Big Shot for my die cutting AND embossing. What I learned with my embossing, especially with a Darice folder, was to use a smaller paper shim folded in thirds, that puts the pressure in the middle of the sandwich. Maybe more pressure in the middle is the ticket. I find your videos entertaining and informative! Thx! 😊
Thank you Nancy , all your hard work saves me time, foil and patience . I’m very very appreciative . You also give me encouragement to get my foil machine back out as it very nearly went through the window when i tried it . Thank you again and I have subscribed so that I can get some more very useful help
I just saw a video on embossing folders using the Glimmer and it just popped up in my feed, Pia Krogh Larsen. She used a lot of pressure using a candle holder and all kinds of jazz, but she got a really good result. I couldn't remember if you tried this, and of course you did. I don't know if you saw any of her stuff, I have never heard of her but it was interesting.
I don’t have manual die cutting machine, but I still watch anyway! Would love to see embossing folders in a CC FoilPress but definitely not recommended I’m sure. Thin ones could work I think. Thanks Nancy!
With the embossing folder, on my Gopress I leave it longer to heat up but don’t put too much shim in order to only have the raised parts of the embossing folder to be foiled. Now I only work with Couture créations foils.
Anne-Marie Gaglio Absolutely. I sold my Glimmer Press after getting the Go Press n Foil. I like Couture Creations foils better too..and now that I’ve bought their Go Power & Emboss electronic die cutter I’m foiling practically everything...even from Stamps.
Annette Po I am happy to learn that it is possible to foil without too much issues with it and even better with their electric cutting machine. But it is a company difficult to find in my country. My Gopress is a US one so had to buy a power transformer. I still have to guess sometimes on my shims.
Anne-Marie Gaglio that’s a shame because they make really good quality products. Perhaps you could start asking your local craft stores to begin stocking the products. I know how frustrating that is. I’m from Australia and we have the same problem with some products.
Thank you Nancy I am glad to see this tutorial.. I have considering getting this foiling system... I was watching a video from creative nation last night where ThermoWeb is coming out with a paste to foil without heat
You have spent a whole lot more time on trying to get this Spellbinder machine to work than I would. It is much appreciated though. I think I will stick with my laminater even though I have not tried it yet. Just got my foils from the retirement sale yesterday.
Those others will still make really good backgrounds. What if you heated the paper too, like let it sit on there a little before taking off and rolling it
Very pretty! Hmmm. Looks like the die cut machine is pressing hard on the outside edges. Maybe cut/limit the number of shims down to 2 on outside and/or to just the middle
@@NancyStamps I thought the same thing. You kept tinkering with the foil and the heat and paper shims, but it seems your rollers are worn in the middle, which makes sense since that is where we tend to place dies for cutting. The edges have more pressure because they haven't been worn down as much. If you had another machine to try it in... a friend's perhaps, especially a newer machine, I think it would work right without even swimming. Love this idea, and *so* appreciate your tests and trials! I'm waiting for you to test all the machines and all the foils so I can get the one with less fussing! LOL Though, every individual die cut machine adds some variation, and I have an eBosser so I'm not likely to find a video of anyone trying foiling with it! Love my little eBosser though... small footprint but it can take 8.5 x 11" paper. I have a couple dozen letter size embossing folders, plus I love that I can run a bunch of dies with one pass. I'll stay tuned for more experiments in the meantime!
I wonder what would happen if you heat your entire sandwich (including the foil and paper to be foiled) at the same time and run the sandwich through the Big Kick without opening it. Also what happens if you change your sandwich to heat platform, paper, foil, embossing folder, shims, and pad? I have a Go, Press & Foil machine and these sandwich variations work well for me. I also use a metal shim, paper, foil, 3- layered(& glued) die cut shape, Spellbinders embossing rubber pad, flip the lid down, then heat the sandwich before running it through my Big Shot. (Because my Big Shot is fairly new sometimes I don't need any paper shims, sometimes I use one or two.)
One tip I seen from other crafters is the paper you use to foil makes all the difference. For example using the reverse of photo paper works well. Many thanks for the tip about the Go Press and Foil works best with a Gemini Jnr as I was thinking of buying one but have the big Gemini.
I have that big kick! I got it as a present around five years ago! Last year my son gave me the sizzix plus machine and it is so big,I have place to put it!
I don't think I've seen anyone else use this technique, pretty cool. On an entirely different topic, what is the brand and color of your nail polish? It's gorgeous!
There is a saying in the knitting community: " You never have too much yarn in your stash if you can stand in your home or room and be 10 feet away from any of your yarn" . It might be said of foil in your home and fast becoming mine. :))) I wonder how that coated black card stock would work?
@@NancyStamps that green embossing pad is an Anna Griffin pad. It's way thicker than the tan spellbinders embossing pad. I love watching your foiling videos. I keep saying I'm gonna get my foil press out and go to work...I just keep getting sidetracked! Lol
Look what I came across. 🙂 I do like the distressed look of some of the gold on black. The orange presents on white had one side that wasn't bad, but I think you weren't as much of a foiling snob back then. Lol. Your nails are gorgeous in this video! Are they your actual nails, or just a different way you had them done? They look thinner than the way the do now. Anyway, very very pretty! See you back in the future. 😁
Very cool I ordered a machine... I've been going to ordered one for a long time.. I watched a video where the gal foiled with a die and then turned the die over and cut it out.. Very cool
I just got the big Gemini machine. You mention people saying there is too much pressure from it and people complain. COuldnt you use a thinner plate on the outside of the sandwich to allow for less pressure? Thanks

Hi Nancy, Thank you for sharing a really fab crafty hot foiling tutorial I really did appreciate all your hard work and experimenting 👍 Nancy, If u used the metal shim first then put the embossing folder down would it then be possible to use the Gemini foil press ? love to u and all 👍💞
@@NancyStamps Hi Nancy, Thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply back to me as I know u are a very busy mam I really did appreciate that and all your help as always ☺️👍 Lin x
The difference between the sizzix big kick and big shot is where you can buy them. The big kick is sold at chain stores like joann and michaels while the big shot id at your “mom & pops”
So is there a reason the embossing folder doesn't work in the gemini foil press? Will it not fit? Warranty issue? I'm also wondering why cc doesn't want the foil press used in a manual machine... Why would it be an issue...?
Embossing folders will wor for embossing, but not with the FoilPress. CC will void your warranty if you try to use an embossing folders with the FoilPress.
I received the Gemini Foil Press as a Christmas present. I do not have the Gemini Jr but I do have the bigger Gemini. I did have to order the extender plate. I have had nothing but trouble with it. Its gotten stuck in the machine twice, I mean really stuck. And I followed the sandwich that was shown on a youtube video. The only difference was I switched the two plates around (small plate to extender plate). I still can't get it to be right. I won't buy a Gemini Jr, I have so much stuff now. Do you prefer the Spellbinders? Seems like it does a little more. Thoughts anyone?
Hi Nancy, I like all your tutorials about foiling, what about Gemini foil press machine, will foil with embossing folders??? what is better Gemini foil press or Glimmer machine??? thank you
in my opinion the Gemini Foil Press is better, but it is limited and can not do the embossing folders. Plus Crafter's companion is very strict on what you use with the Gemini Foil Press or they will void your warranty
Thank you Nancy for reply, :) I saw one tutorial where they used embossing folder with the Gemini foilpress, I am little in confuse, as I want to change my GO press machine, I have Gemini cut machine original, I have SB platinum machine, so hard to choose from CC foilpress & Glimmer foil system
I'm looking for the foiling effect, not necessarily embossing. Plus it tends to over foil even more. I'll experiment some more and show more videos with it.
I love the fact that u experiment and then share w/us. I also like the fact that u get to the point and don’t goof off. Thank u.

Foiling your embossing folders besides thinking outside the box also expands the use the folders. Who knew! Obviously you did Nancy😊👏👏👏
So interesting. What a delicate balance there is in the embossing folder foiling world. Great expiimentatiin. Tfs

Try cutting your foil to the size of your cardstock and you will have much less over foiling. Trimming the corners some also helps.

Connie, agreed! Minc/ Laminator foiling is my #1 favorite way of foiling.
Lots of great tips, thank you!
You may want to try using the metal adaptor plate. It provides more support especially in the middle.

So why couldn't u just emboss it first & then foil it?
Love foiling, and embossing folders. But I don't a heat foiling machine. So it's out for me.🙁 thanks for sharing anyway.
Hi @Nancy is there a reason you wouldnt put your Cardstock and foil in with the folder and shims to heat all through from the start?
I wasn't trying to emboss it. Just foil with it.
These are beautiful! Is there a way to foil folders without a gemini ?
Laminator? But obviously that dosnt work with an embossing folder :)
Can you do the same thing with embossing folders on the Gemini foil system?
Sadly, no
Have you tried the 3D embossing folders? They may not need shims?
can you use the big shot with the glimmer foil machine?

I find that if I foil too long, that is when I get over foiling.
I was disappointed that you can’t use the embossing folder on the Gemini foiling machine. Why? I love the idea of using embossing folder.
you can emboss, you just can't heat it with the foiling platform and try to foil with it.

No, Crafter's Companion does not recommend using embossing folders with the Gemini Foil Press.

Thick pieces of cardstock to thicken your sandwich.
