Cathy, I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have a glimmer but seldom use it as all my trials are errors. Number 1 lesson - heat the die, pull out unit, then layer foil and stock! Worked like a champ! Second lesson - move die cutting machine next to foiling machine. I was walking across the room and obviously not doing a very good job of being steady. Amazing difference. Two things I have to do different in that I have a Big Shot, is to run my plate through twice or I had splotchy foiling but no over foiling and second, when I use my solid hot foil plate I have to use a card shim for reverse foiling. Very pleased with the outcome! That’s all I did today was play with my Glimmer! I had so much fun! Thank you again and again for your videos!
Thank you for testing out all of these ideas and saving us the time and trouble! May I give a shoutout to the Spellbinders Glimmer Boot Camp UA-cam series? Wow! What a difference a bit of knowledge made in my foiling. I learned to use my antistatic tool to prevent overfoiling in that series and, I'll be darned, but it works! I am also a fan of the hinge method. I either use the hinge method or a bit of tape to hold things in place for all my foiling. For elements I want foiled directly on my card panel, I get perfect placement. For everything else, a little insurance that things will stay in place. Glimmer boot camp also helped me realize I prefer to place my plate, foil and cardstock on the bed to heat, disengage the base, add the shim and top plate, then roll it through my die cutting machine. I wish I'd watched your video sooner! For full size and large background foil panels, I learned the hard way to use a half sheet of cardstock to foil, then cut the panel down to size.
Cathy, just was struggling with narrow sentiments and then I remembered you had this video.....reviewed ....and then was glee filled as my sentiments came out great! The hinge tape method was perfect!
I agree with others, you are being to hard on yourself!!! That card is beautiful!!! I’m very much like you, simpler is better!! But you need to take the win!!! 💖
Cathy I have problems too. I was to the point where I was just going to get rid of my hot foil system. However I have decide to try, try, again! I have to master I. Eventually! Thanks for your inspiration. :)😊
Cathy. Your card is gorgeous. I know I want everything to be perfect on my cards all the time. The truth is to others who receive them they are. I love all your cards , the colors are shouting out spring. Have a lovely week . Look forward to next time.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! I’m so glad you made this video! I just received the set up for Christmas and this is a great tutorial. So glad your followers shared tips, too.
Cathy, the card is stunning! If I could make a card half as pretty as this, I'd be elated! Don't be so hard on yourself. Thanks for sharing! I have the foiling apparatus and after using and failing miserably I got intimidated by it and it's sitting lonely on my desk. Maybe I will whip it out and laugh a little trying to get better at foiling.
If u want hard info about foiling - machine, paper, foil, sandwich - Nancy Stamps has a huge amount on on her channel with full on demos to show various outcomes. Highly recommend. TFS!
I never had an issue with double foiling. Maybe because of the machine I use? Mine has a hinged door so the top cannot shift no matter what. I did have a lot of frustration when I was using my Big Shot Pro as it didn't have even pressure but ever since I got the Switch it's smooth sailing and, yes, only one pass or there's tons of over foiling. Better for the tape to disintegrate than melt all over everything. I had that happen to me. Needless to say, I don't use that tape for foiling any longer! As most everyone mentioned, you're too hard on yourself. It's a lovely card. Hasta mañana!
I have not tried that. I don't have an answer for you. I do know this video explains the machines that it is compatible with: ua-cam.com/video/hyCwrlDfaE0/v-deo.htmlsi=fLacT8tgfBHl2Ime
PHEW! You tried disengaging. That was a huge game changer for me. Now it seems so obvious. If I forget to do it I can see everything jump and skip. The thin Tim Holtz mats seem like a great idea too. I don't love the hinge method because I have trouble tucking the foil under. But sometimes I have to do it because it helps with placement if the placement has to be exact. I have found with the disengaging/no shim/one time through if I get any overfoiling it is minimal and I can literally run my (hopefully clean) finger over it and brush the excess away. thanks for sharing the compilation of suggestions.
I don't think it's a bad card at all! Everything looks very nice! I was cracking up watching you trying to handle all the pieces/parts going in and out of the foil machine. That's how I would look. Thanks for making me feel normal.
This was so funny! I too struggle with this and am close to surrender. Am I the only one thinking that you could heat emboss this stuff quickly and get a similar result? Lol Thank you CZ
I’m no pro either. But,maybe if the sentiments were more at an angle they would have foiled as well as the hinge method? Just wondering if the “jumping” caused the shadow foiling… I’m going to try these tips as well. Thank you for sharing.😊

I love your different techniques. All different from what I have done. I will definitely be trying them out!
LOVE the card! One of the tips I saw was to let the card cool before you peel the foil away. *Ü*
It turned out beautiful! Thank you for sharing these awesome tips!

Ahhhh Cathy, this card is WAY better than Horrible!!! 😜💙💙
You are Amazing!! . You brighten my day ❤
Can you use this foil machine with Anna Griffin Empress?
I have not tried that. I don't have an answer for you. I do know this video explains the machines that it is compatible with: ua-cam.com/video/hyCwrlDfaE0/v-deo.htmlsi=fLacT8tgfBHl2Ime
Very pretty. I still haven't tried foiling.

It looks great!!!!! Don't be so hard on yourself. Your cards are fabulous
Thanks!! Foiling is a challenge. Is Hammermill the “go to” for foiling?
Well, people seem to say it is. I also like the Simon Says Stamp Glossy White Cardstock!
Hi Cathy, l think the card is beautiful. I have a foiling machine, it has never worked from day one. Will try your method and see what happens.
I love pretty peonies foiling plate from crafters companion!
When I don't like my inking I'll spray the background with either water or shimmer spray. It kinda softens it.
Oh good idea!
Your inking and card is beautiful!
Thank you so much!
I think you are too hard on yourself, that card is beautiful.
I agree, it’s beautiful
Heckins! What a beautiful card! Also, love the color of your nails! (plus I see someone has had a bump in subscribers lately too!) Hugs - MSL
Heyyy! Great to see you here, but yeah, The Salon Life is ROCKING! As well it should be. That's how I learned about Dazzle Dry!
I don't think it's a bad card at all! Everything looks very nice! I was cracking up watching you trying to handle all the pieces/parts going in and out of the foil machine. That's how I would look. Thanks for making me feel normal.
Oh thank you!
Jennifer McGuire does recommend the hinge method, after all.

Hello from Cancun, Mexico
What is the pink tape that you use, please?
It's the Easy See brand, and actually comes in different colors, too! • Pink Tape by Easy See
--- ldli.co/e/zrx5qkd [ SSS ]
Do you have a “must have” list for beginners?
What set are you using to make the fishtail?
Hey Bea, it's this: • Sentiment Label Dies
--- ldli.co/e/1pd1ng6
I started disengaging mine and now I have a love love relationship with my glimmer instead of love hate
The card is beautiful; however, I found that the Hammermill paper doesn't take the Simon Says ink.
Oh really? I will have to try that out!
I just watched a video today where the maker did a whole ink blended panel on Hammermill using the Simon inks. Hmmm.
Feeling very reassured that I’m not the only person who accidentally gets a die impression on her top cutting plate!
Oh yes, I do that all the time!
I hate I missed you live, but thank you for trying out tips we have all heard before. You saved all of us time and money
I got my lovely pokey tool!!! thank you!!!
