well not every gets a bulge.....coils sometimes test well but not necessarily perform well. always check compression first before buying anything. especially on these vq's
Thanks for the tip, you are probably right about the bulge, but so far every-time on a blown coil pack there has been a bulge. Well, in my experience so far that is what has happened.

I have a 2008 M35 that is having a surging and idling issue in the last week i changed the crankshaft position sensor the camshaft position sensor bank 1 & the MAF sensor cleaned the throttle body & also did the idle relearn throttle pedal position reset ecm reset still the idle isn't at 650 i also unhooked the battery overnight did to reset it nothing is working did you ever have a high idle that was hard to get rid of????? Another thing is i went to auto zone to get the SES light checked and the obd2 port is not working any advice you can give me on this VQ35? Thanks in advance
So I’m definitely a mechanic, but I’ve done a lot of work on Honda’s mostly. I have a friend that has a g35, and the last 2 weeks I’ve been working on it for him. Well let me start I was suppose to work on it, but he got impatient and had some guy do some stuff to the car for him...... the stuff I was gonna take care of. Anyway I’m now having to fix all the mistakes this guy did. This guy replaced all the plugs and coil packs, and managed to mess up so much stuff. Misplaced important bolts the most ridiculous thing done was the cats where cut off and didn’t need to be done but I’ve gotten everything just about right I need to check the gap on the plugs but after fixing everything I’ve had the codes checked and it’s P0058 and the other is P0138 it’s saying the 02 sensor and that’s what’s got me stumped if the sensor is not connected (because the cats are gone) so I’m still having misfire issues and the plugs and coil packs have been replaced and correctly installed (I do have to check the gap on them though ) please help me out
I have a coupe g35 07 and it dosent let me go above 2200 rpms is like a limp mode whenever the mass air flow sensor is plugged in the car wont stay on it would slowly choke and die and when i Unplugged the sensor it stays on but i cant go higher then 2200 it has 56k miles
My g35 started misfiring when I drove it hard, service engine light came on but after it sat for a few hours drove like normal until I drove it hard again. I replaced the spark plugs and now it drives way better than before even got rid of rough idling when completely stopped. I drive it hard and doesn't misfire but after I replaced the plugs, vdc, slip and service engine light came on and stay on. It can't be my cam and crank shaft sensors because I just replaced them about a month ago with OEM sensors straight from the dealer. I couldn't have mixed up the harnesses because I removed each coil pack one at a time as I replaced the plug. I did have oil on every plug but I doubt the gasket could be the problem because it would be misfiring and not driving well. On another vehicle that I had my valve cover gasket was bad and had oil on all plugs misfired at all times even with fresh new plugs. I'm going to replace the coil packs next but was hoping that wasn't the issue. If some one knows something else that could be wrong please let me know, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Rolando Gonzalez ....spark plugs last about 30,000 miles longer than a coilpack. You said it drives so much better with new plugs so imagine how it will drive with new coilpacks. Report back after replacing the coilpacks.
when I had my r32 skyline. when it start a miss fire sometimes. I use to just pull over. pop the hood. and unplug each connection to the coil . the one with no difference in engine note. I knew that coil has had it. so I just get another. the RB was a easy engine to work on
Hey I was wondering if you know, if I had a faulty coil could that be the reason my car lags on the rpm's? Let's say I have my foot slammed all the way down on the gas pedal it would take me about 30 seconds for my car to hit 5 rpm's?
Ight but how about when the car ONLY runs on 5 cylinders all together. A rarity that it drives on 6. I changed the plugs and coils are pretty new and no noticable issue.
Jay Millz The'Barber ....thank you for binge watching my channel, lol. Stay tuned, I just came back from San Diego and got some awesome video to edit and upload. Sunset cliffs and shots up high from the hotel room, cracking the Shockwave ))) echoing off sky scrapers. Great times with the wifey.
Jay Millz The'Barber......test pipes or resonated test pipes are very raspy/drone, but make power. Motordyne ART pipes make 10 more whp than test pipes and the helmholtz resonator gets rid of the rasp and drone.
Motordyne G35 i plan on eventually getting them just right now while im in barber school i dont really have that type of budget lol but i see they make great products for our vqs
Jay Millz The'Barber ....I hear you. I used to have resonated test pipes so just speaking from experience. Test pipes should be your last mod before a tune or car will run lean. Lean is bad.
the fifth video in a row I've watched where you guys doing amazing job telling us about the wire routing on the driver side but don't even show us a clear picture on the passenger side why why do you skip over it make a complete video or don't please
Thanks huge help random misfire 2,4,6 cylinder I'm assuming cause smell gas on that side of car driver side same engine but yours is mint beautiful clean. I'll change my coil packs hoping that's the problem my car sounds like crap thanks man great video
I just got P0300 and engine kept dying within few seconds! This is after I replaced my valve covers with new spark plugs and ENA coil packs into my 2005 G35 coupe. Therefore I tried my original coil pack back and engine could only crank without starting. check out my latest car blog video.
Maybe a vacuum leak? Did you make sure everything was put back together correctly? Light up a cigar and blow the smoke in the hoses to see if any smoke is escaping through the engine. I did this over to the hose by the battery cover to check if I had a leak, saw no smoke and thought well that cigar trick didn't work. Waited 10 mins, went over and the let the air valve off my CAI to see a bunch of smoke pour out after pulling the plug off. My point? I saw no smoke leak out, so I knew I didn't have a vacuum leak. 10 mins later smoke came out after I let it come out confirming everything was sealed. Cigar trick works.
Im having issues with the same p0300 code but my car randomly misfires for a few minutes and then it stops and starts running fine. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe an injector is sticking.
hey my friend quick question I changed the valve gaskets covers changed my spark plugs my g35 2004 coupe is shaking and it feels like it wants to turn off what can that be? and smoke is coming out my exhaust but from the middle too no over heating happening
Smoke coming out your exhaust, means you are burning oil. The car shaking and wanting to die, sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF sensor where un-metered air is entering the system and the ecu is dumping in more fuel to compensate which makes the car shake and die. UA-cam vacuum leaks.
@motordyne G35, I currently have somewhat of the same issue. My 04 G35 is throwing the P0303 code. I've replaced all of the plugs and coilpacks and I'm still getting the code. What do you think I should be looking into next to try and solve this issue???
Vincent Coakley Jr ....On the driver side, cylinder 4 and 6 the wiring harness is easy to get mixed matched when reinstalling. If installed wrong, you will still get a misfire. Double check this....
Motordyne G35 thing is I'm getting no fire at all from #3. When I pull all the connections from the coil packs one by one all changes the motor rev except #3. Any other suggestions?
Same thing happen in my 04 coupe blister on the bank 5.only bad is my valve covers leak got the new one just sucks changing them even tho i watched your vid on how to change them
This video sucks. I just uploaded a new one, much better. ua-cam.com/video/h666VNsPv2M/v-deo.html Even if you have done the job before, it is always nice to watch someone else do it before you do the install. I know, I do...LOL.
what happens when you see coolant in the spark plug holes? I have coolant coming out of one of my spark plug holes. Im thinking its the head gasket.. not sure if this means I have to change my engine completely..
My 06 g35 rev up has a p0300 code and a bad power loss at 3k rpm i re did the plugs but still happing it smells like it's just dumping gas trying to find out what it could be
How many miles has it been since you changed any coil packs? Coil packs can still go bad without any bulges. Over 60k miles on coil packs is pushing it, they last about 75k miles. The smell of gas, means you got fuel coming in, but it isn't igniting in one of the cylinders or more. Make sure to wipe dielectric grease on the inside of the coil pack when installing a new one, just use a q tip.
Hey bro I have a 03 g35 and it has the same code but I can’t seem to figure out what it is. I replaced coil packs and spark plugs. Whenever I floor the car it doesn’t perform like it’s supposed to. And my battery keeps getting drained
Hey man my car is like miss firing but it’s not coming from the mufflers it pops out from the cold air intake, it only does that when i go over 6k rpms. Idk if u can help or if u know anything about that. @motordyne g35
Hey man quick question. I was changing the spark plugs in my 03 g35 and found lots of oil in at least 3 of the spark plug wells. Car started misfiring immediately after finishing so I figured I needed to replace my valve covers. Replaced my valve covers yesterday and still have a random misfire. Inspected all my coilpacks today and found no signs of damage. The car will run perfectly fine for at least 10 minutes and then randomly start misfiring. Any suggestions?
Hello guys tyler like your channel. I need some help from anyone. I have a 2012 g37 and my has been giving me a check engine light car goes into limp mode won't shift properly, when you step on the gas pedal nothing happens not instantly 😑 theirs a delay. I pull the codes and it seem to be the map sensor infiniti dealer said I have 3 prs0002, prs0003 I bought them cleared the codes and car ran good real smooth for 2 days same codes came back long with this new one P1705, P006A.
Driving with a misfiring cylinder is potentially dangerous. If you lose power while you are driving, or a second or third cylinder goes out, this can cause you to get into a car accident, potentially injuring you and others around you. Yes, you can drive it, but I would only drive a short distance because of how bad the car vibrates. I have a BMW E46 with an inline 6 vs. the v6 the G has, and when the BMW misfires because it is an inline 6, you can NOT even feel the misfire. On the G, you feel the misfire big time.
I know this is a year late but is it possible to have code 0304 but not feel like there's anything wrong with the car. I have a misfire code but it doesnt feel like it.
would this fix bad fuel economy, right now iam getting 180 miles the most on my 04 g35 .. recently just replaced spark plugs and my service engine soon light appeared on the next day. and I still get shitty gas mileage, would replacing the Plug Boot fix it the poor fuel economy maybe ?
Go to any parts store, like auto zone and they will hook up the scanner, read your code for free. You need to know what the code is before doing anything.
i have a miss fire and i have changed coil packs, full service including spark plugs, tried injectors and fuel rail off a mates 350z, tried adding a new earth, re set the ECU and drive it and the engine light comes on and flashes and i have loss of power, i have no idea what it is anyone help?
Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF sensor where un-metered air is entering the system and the ecu is dumping in more fuel to compensate which makes the car shake and die. UA-cam vacuum leaks.
Motordyne G35 the car doesn't die tho, on idle if i rev the car it revs fine yet when it dies down the revs drop really low and the car sounds like its going to stall but doesn't then it sits back at 500rpm..? but my engine light is flashing and has a missfire and have tried so much i don't know how to fix it :(
I know many people have been asking the same question and they expect you to reply and know everything. I was just wondering, my g has an issue. So overall when it starts up, it has great acceleration! To the point where it puts me snug to my seat lol. But then after driving for about 15 minutes I believe, it starts to loose that power and acceleration , like you have to keep push the pedal down for it to go normal speed atleast. I have no codes, mods: cold air intake, moterdyne spacer, 75 throttle, testpipes, I am saying these because Honda’s keep on beating me ha ha Funny right. I have done oil changes every 6 months, replaced spark plugs but not coil packs. Car has no codes just lost of acceleration after 10-20’ minutes of driving. & when I turn it off like let’s say I go to the store on the quicks, it has that great power output but then 10 minutes later it starts to lose acceleration.
The needle is smooth as butter. The jump you see is from half throttle, to full on the way up. The camera has a little shake in it maybe what you are seeing.
Would you be able to send me or show me your firing order for your drivers side plugs? Because I can’t find which plug goes where and can not tell in the video
I have a 04 coupe and when I drive hard it has a bad smell coming from the pipes and someone told me that it can be my catalytic converter is that true?
What do you consider a bad smell? If you ever go to a race track, it has a distinct smell and if it is that smell your CATS are probably ready to fail. That smell would mean your cats are going, but you really wouldn't smell much before the code P0420 pops up first for blown CAT. OEM CATS fail so when mine failed like 4 years ago, I went with Motordyne ART pipes. They smell like race car and never fail.
Motordyne G35 Would that fix the issue? I changed the spark plugs on mine because of a P0304 code and noticed oil on all the spark plugs but didn’t think much of it. It idles rough as well as when I put into a gear.
my car got the p0300 code. when I try to start the car, it "dies out" with in the seconds. I have a Chevy impala 2006 3.5 . do u think it can be the coil?
I will try a question. I have the same car. I get the same code. Car runs terrible, but if i drive it hard, with hard acceleration for about 5 seconds, it clears right up. coil or maybe blocked cats? Thanks for the great channel
Blocked CAT is a P420 code, which is failing CAT. If you are getting the same code, then you have a misfire. Did you ever figure it out? Flooring it is not the solution even if it feels smoother.
Lifetime warranty, $90 per coil pack at Oriley's auto parts. Even say made in Japan. I only buy parts from the store if they have a lifetime warranty, otherwise I go OEM.
Yep, you have a misfire for sure. I change the spark plugs with the coil packs at the same time. Did you change out the coil packs? They are just as important as the spark plugs.
Valve covers just leak oil, but can be leaking so bad that cylinder 6 could be getting oil in it which would make it idle bad once the plug has been soaked into to much oil, making the spark plug fail. My valve cover gaskets leak just a little bit on the sides, but no oil in the cylinders. Once I see oil in the cylinder, will I then do valve covers. Highly unlikely your rough idle is due to valve covers needing replaced.
Hey nice video I'm going through this right now with my 2005 Infiniti G 35 and one day it started shaking at the light right before my house. Parked the car it's in the shop now apparently the warranty doesn't cover this?! It's crazy. Anyway WE have to find the coils and the valve covers?! For the dealer shop. Let me know what you think any advice would be greatful.
You probably fixes this already but you shouldn't really go to a dealership go to a independent shop lucky I have all my repairs at a very reliable shop he's fixed my mk4 Jetta and couple months ago the g coupe
Hey man, got a quick question. I have a p0304 code.I have gone ahead and changed all 6 sparkplugs just because they haven't been changed and i went ahead and changed the coil packs as well. I'm still getting a misfire but is not as bad. Any idea on what it could be?
Thanks for watching. I just got a new camera for my channel and will be uploading more content. This video is from a cell phone and the quality is pretty bad, but the information is there; glad I could help.
+Joshua cuevas .....whenever you add modifications to a car, a tune changes the computer for the mod, hence making more power. If you add to many breather mods, your car will run lean which means too much air and not enough fuel. That is how an engine will go ka-boom and be destroyed.
Both. First the sound, sounds like a diesel engine and will shake at low rpm. Then an error code will appear about 3 mins later, with check engine light flashing. Flashing means misfire before even checking the reader.
10mm with extension for a couple bolts on the plenum that holds down the air intake, unplug the maf, remove the intake assembly then it is a 10mm bolt that holds down the coil. Might need a flat head to pry the coil plug off. Shouldn't take more than 20 mins to swap just #4.
Be careful prying it thought, they are supposed to just slide up after you unbolt em, and they break easily , so be careful using anything to get the coils packs out
+Motordyne G35 I have a 350z 2003 that is misfiring intermittently. no chk engine light. the Nissan service tech says one of the coils are bad. sound right?
Sounds correct. Coils are temperamental before they go, but when they go, you will know for sure and a check engine light will illuminate to confirm it. Your 350z is 13 years old, I"m sure it is time for all the coil packs, along with the plugs to be replaced. It is getting to be that time and remember Oriley's gives a lifetime warranty on their coil packs.
No, I do not. I am full bolt ons with a tune and I am not 1 step colder. Check out my new video here on Sunday. This video was shot on a cell phone and is shitty. Still editing, but this spark plug and coil install is a much better video here on Sunday.
then you make me find this article, that I had in the description...damn it. I just installed those plugs, oh well. No issue before....www.z1motorsports.com/ignition-system/nissan/oem-vq35de-spark-plug-ngk-plfr6a-11-p-3187.html
Great video man... one question i have a 350z HR with a random misfire p0300 code and it idle at 1k , and the engine seem to be fine no weird noises, but i notice a lack of power when i accelerate, what could be the random misfire? Do you think is the coils pack , thanks in advance.....
Random misfire means you have more than 1 cylinder that is not firing. If it is just 1 cylinder, usually the code will be P0302 which means cylinder number 2 is misfiring or it is telling which cylinder is the problem. Random means more than 1 so it can not tell you. If you have not changed the coil packs before, then I would just replace them all with new plugs instead of waiting on the rest of them to fail, which could leave you stranded. You should not drive very far with an engine misfiring. Your idle should be 650RPM and I have a video to reset your idle..........ua-cam.com/video/TZJfWQLGUZI/v-deo.html
Im having the same issue. No engine light is throwing. First i changed all sparks but the issue is still there. I also have test pipes so maybe that couldve messed up the o2 sensors. Or is could be coil packs. help please!!
Test pipes are not the issue. The engine will throw a code for the misfire eventually, but not right at first when it misfires. You are hearing the misfire immediately because of the test pipes. How many miles are on the car and have you ever changed the coil packs before?
Motordyne G35 It has 110000 kilometers. I got the car last yea r at 96000kms. I dont think they have been changed but about 8 months ago i installed a new exhasust and test pipes. No engine light is being brought up and no code. When i start up the car sometimes it sounds like a wrx, idle is like burp burp burp burp burp (say each burp fast and it sounds like that and has that rhythm. Sometimes it will be just normal and the car runs fine, but most of the time whilst driving it will go back to sounding like a wrx.
First off, whenever you put on test pipes the car needs to be tuned, preferably dyno tuned. The increase in air flow will make the car run lean, which is bad. In regards to the misfire, if it sounds like a wrx, a code should pop up for the misfire. A code did not illuminate for me because I stopped the car immediately, but if I would have kept driving it, a check engine light code would pop up. Coil packs last only about 80k miles, you are due for new ones anyway. With test pipes, the misfire is way more obvious than without because of the change in exhaust note. Nothing sounds better than the motordyne shockwave with ART pipes, but when a coil pack goes bad you can tell the change instantly, just from the sound.
I am about to do an updated video on this with my new camera gear, sparkplugs and coilpack install. No the coils are not numbered, any one will work. Just make sure when reconnecting the harness it is the harness to the correct cylinder.
You use it on bolts that require very little tightening, yet you want to be exact to service manual specification. Foot Pounds is for like lug-nuts on your wheel and if you use that wrench, you will strip your spark plugs in the engine creating a serious problem. The plenum, lower plenum and your air intake is all in inch pound. Sorry for saying foot at the end, it is inch pound. Tongue was twisted.
I forgot to say, disconnect the battery first and about Dielectric Grease. Also the spark plug are not pre-gapped for you. The parts store people will remind you anyways when buying spark plugs, but you take a cue tip or finger and rub Dielectric Grease on the inside of the coil pack before installing. Good luck!

love how clean your g is. great videos

Same. Have had two go bad in the lifetime of the car one at 175k cy1 and another at 183k cy5. Both looked new when I pulled them out. Easy fix though!
Dude, awesome review. Engine is so clean! OCD. Clearly.
i got the PO302 code thought it was spark plugs replaced that & spark plugs burnt out quick

I changed the plugs and coils are pretty new and no noticable issue.
im new to the g community and you sir are awsome im a definite subscriber watched about 6 of your vids now very informative
Motordyne G35 sounds like a good time whats your take on test pipes?

One of my coil pack went bad I replaced the bad one after I put the new one the engine started to over heating do you know what cause that?

Motordyne G35 I fix it last month. I missed putting back a grounding wire to timing belt cover. thanks
Im having issues with the same p0300 code but my car randomly misfires for a few minutes and then it stops and starts running fine. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe an injector is sticking.
I'm having the same problem. Did you figure out what it was?
hey my friend quick question I changed the valve gaskets covers changed my spark plugs my g35 2004 coupe is shaking and it feels like it wants to turn off what can that be? and smoke is coming out my exhaust but from the middle too no over heating happening

My 06 g35 rev up has a p0300 code and a bad power loss at 3k rpm i re did the plugs but still happing it smells like it's just dumping gas trying to find out what it could be
Did you replace any coil packs?
Not yet I didn't see any bulges
How many miles has it been since you changed any coil packs? Coil packs can still go bad without any bulges. Over 60k miles on coil packs is pushing it, they last about 75k miles. The smell of gas, means you got fuel coming in, but it isn't igniting in one of the cylinders or more. Make sure to wipe dielectric grease on the inside of the coil pack when installing a new one, just use a q tip.

The coilpacks may not show signs of damage like in this video. Have you replaced any of the coil-packs?
Motordyne G35 I haven't yet.
If you haven't replaced any of your coil packs, any coil pack over 65,000 miles, on this motor, is on borrowed time.
Motordyne G35 gotcha. 71k miles on mine. Thanks for the great info. I subscribed 👍

I have the same make and model of yours and I love it...my vehicle just did the same thing, would it be ok to drive to get it fix

When the check engine light appears, what code does it say?
Motordyne G35 how would I be able to tell which code, do I need to go out and buy a code reader?
Go to any parts store, like auto zone and they will hook up the scanner, read your code for free. You need to know what the code is before doing anything.

Thanks 🙏🏼!

They smell like race car and never fail.
need advice I have a g35 misfire code popped up but oil seems to be on my spark plugs as well not a lot just a little what should I do?
If you have oil on your plugs, it means you need a new valve covers. The issue is very common.

Flooring it is not the solution even if it feels smoother.

great info. Will it still idle inconsistent if the valve covers need replacing?
Valve covers just leak oil, but can be leaking so bad that cylinder 6 could be getting oil in it which would make it idle bad once the plug has been soaked into to much oil, making the spark plug fail. My valve cover gaskets leak just a little bit on the sides, but no oil in the cylinders. Once I see oil in the cylinder, will I then do valve covers. Highly unlikely your rough idle is due to valve covers needing replaced.

Thanks for replying bk.so what ur say is right that the mods I have put on my g their not working for its full potential
Correct, the ECU thinks you have OEM parts and will not adjust on it's own, hence a tuner does it by dyno tuning.

Uprev cable. uprev.com/secure/uprev-interface-cable
Nigga I had headphones on and the beginning it’s sound like there was a guy behind me talking
Hey their had another ? What does dyno tuning do for ur car how does that improve ur car
+Joshua cuevas .....whenever you add modifications to a car, a tune changes the computer for the mod, hence making more power. If you add to many breather mods, your car will run lean which means too much air and not enough fuel. That is how an engine will go ka-boom and be destroyed.
What do you do if cylinder 6 has oil in it?
CLean it out
how do you tell there is a misfire? just the sound alone or error code?
Both. First the sound, sounds like a diesel engine and will shake at low rpm. Then an error code will appear about 3 mins later, with check engine light flashing. Flashing means misfire before even checking the reader.
What tools do I need to replace #4
10mm with extension for a couple bolts on the plenum that holds down the air intake, unplug the maf, remove the intake assembly then it is a 10mm bolt that holds down the coil. Might need a flat head to pry the coil plug off. Shouldn't take more than 20 mins to swap just #4.
Be careful prying it thought, they are supposed to just slide up after you unbolt em, and they break easily , so be careful using anything to get the coils packs out
Though*

+Rob B lol I'm I replaced my coils and spark plugs. It was either of those. Sounds right could be other things to.

I'm having a miss fire on my 350z it's a de , it sounds like a subi boxer engine lol it's must be the coil pack right
What cylinder is misfiring?
Do I still own the g make a video cleaning your egr

wait what is an inch pound foot
You use it on bolts that require very little tightening, yet you want to be exact to service manual specification. Foot Pounds is for like lug-nuts on your wheel and if you use that wrench, you will strip your spark plugs in the engine creating a serious problem. The plenum, lower plenum and your air intake is all in inch pound. Sorry for saying foot at the end, it is inch pound. Tongue was twisted.
