I know this is coming very late, but here's the flaw of appendix carry: it doesn't work very well when drawing one-handed. The shirt tends to snag on your butt when pulling it up, and also fall over the back of your hand while drawing. Now imagine trying to do that under stress when an enemy is danger close. Meanwhile, at 3:00 it comes up cleanly, is pinned to the side by your wrist, and it allows you to blade off and guard with your other arm. It's a much more reliable way to draw when you're already in close quarters and allows you to delay your opponent from getting to your torso and getting a grapple. It also places your gun arm effectively out of reach. Appendix carry is, in my opinion, unsound from a biomechanical standpoint. I don't like the idea of having to rely on having both hands available to get a reliable draw under stress, and you shouldn't, either. If you're using one arm to guard, you can draw and shoot under your guard and they can't really do anything about it.

I carry appendix and have for many years so clearing my “garment” aka tshirt is like 2nd nature, I start with my draw hand down by my pocket I swipe upwards with my thumb until I feel my hand under my shirt then I sweep across my belly to my appendix where my gun is I grab my gun then present the weapon. I only say this because I see people saying it requires 2 hands to draw while carrying appendix which just isn’t the case, some people will teach you to use your off hand to clear your garment while you draw just because it’s a good habit but it’s nowhere near a requirement you can easily draw 1 handed as long as you’re practicing.

So how easy is it to be sitting and standing constantly does it interfere or bother you for long periods of time? J 4 o'clock carry and have no issues in and out of the car and pretty much forget that I am carrying. Can the same be said about appendix? Just a question
@@eaglepasss3580 For me? Yes. If done correctly all carry positions can be comfortable. Drawing from a seated position appendix is much easier than strong side especially when buckled in a car. It’s the most comfortable for standing long periods of times but sitting isn’t a problem. I never understand why people think it’s impossible to sit you just sit like normal lol.
Nice video and great tips. I particularly like the suggestion to be cognizant of the muzzle while reholstering. A holster is a safety device - shrouded trigger, shrouded safety if the gun has one, and built of material that does not collapse. Another advantage to AIWB is that the approach to your firearm is within your field of view. For those who prefer scary old cocked and locked 1911's, if you need to reholster you can move your thumb underneath the safety and monitor it to make sure it stays engaged. A Schwatz firing pin block is another good idea for 1911's. Reholster with pressure on the beavertail, not the grip safety, to leave the firing pin block (hopefully) engaged. Subscribed!

Are you appendix carrying? Or you just happy to see me😁 Awesome as always OG, my instructors always say " watch it all the way into your holster, we're not giving awards for SPEED re-holstering" Stay safe OG✌
I want to carry appendix, but I'm waiting until I can get a decent holster for it. The Crossbreed Reckoning holster I have right now seems to work best when worn between 3 and 4 o'clock with my body type. It says it can be used for appendix, but it's very uncomfortable.
Good video. Nice to hear a member of law enforcement explain the advantages of appendix carry. I agree totally about the benefits of appendix carry. It may not be for everyone, but it works for me, and I rarely carry in any other position. Actually it's a no-brainer for me. It's the most comfortable; the quickest, easiest access; and it is the most defendable position on my body should someone try to take the gun. But to your point, nothing is 100% "safe." Obviously, there will always be some degree of inherent "risk" when dealing with firearms. However, I'm a firm believer that there are no "accidental" discharges....just negligent discharges. That being said, anyone who feels it's not "safe" to carry appendix should probably not be handling firearms anyway. If you're stupid enough to have a negligent discharge, you have no business carrying or handling firearms.
Very good advice! As a guy brand new to carrying I bought a very cheap universal, ambi, inside/outside holster just to see how I preferred carrying, and iwb up front seemed the most comfortable. Now I have a better idea on how to do so even more safely. Thank you!
I carry in the small of my back, using a left handed appendix cross draw holster, which presents quite well to my right hand that way. It actually gives me some nice back support when seated, and doesn't print at all, since my untucked shirt hangs from my shoulders, and completely clears my 1911. The extra mag is in my pocket.
@@dogsduece Unlikely. It mostly rides over my left kidney. If I did end up falling flat on my back, it would probably hurt like hell, but snap my spine? I seriously doubt it.
The biggest problem I see with SOB carry is if you are in a fight and it goes to the ground with you on your back and your arm is behind you, you are screwed. Also if you are on the ground and ground fighting is not in your skill set, you may not be able to reach the weapon when needed, particularly if your adversary knows you are armed and is fighting for your weapon as well…
All the big name guntubers have appendix carry dedicated videos but I had not seen any of them show a re-holstering demonstration as comprehensive as yours 5/5!!
I've been carrying appendix carry for 34 years. I have better awareness and control over the firearm in this method. In my opinion, it is the best concealed carry position. A great holster is the spyder concealment hybrid. It has FULL kydex with a thick leather backing (very comfortable)
Can confirm, central California does issue, some counties are more of a pain in the ass- but thankfully my parents chose a shall issue county by random chance 😂
I tried it. Brutally uncomfortable. I never worried about shooting myself. I settled on 2:30 OWB. I'm 60, in good shape, and can deploy the weapon pretty well, though not like the competition shooters. If it works for someone I'm happy. I went through 4 different holster systems, not cheap. It never worked. I'm 5'7". Not tall. Maybe that plays into it? I don't know. I am happy and comfortable now. Everyone is an individual. I envy those who can carry up front. I can't. You mentioned longer barrels affecting balance. Spot on. That applies to carrying in general. Love your channel. No BS. Practical.
Outstanding video! This retired LEO switched back to 3:30 or 4"00 clock position after carrying appendix. I found the appendix carrying was much more comfortable. I will now be going back to appendix carry because of your video. Stay safe and be prepared for what is coming to all of us.
I used cross draw iwb holsters when I worked for a rideshare. Since I was in the car for 12-14hrs, and my right flank had the seatbelt buckle, it was just easier to start carrying that way. It became so comfortable and natural that I haven't carried another way in years. My buddies and I get into arguments over best way to carry. I had to point out that each person is different and everyone should carry how they feel most comfortable.
I've been on the fence about AIWB carry. As I also have some "tacticle girth", it seems to be the best for all types of situations whether sitting or standing or driving. I've tried 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock, but the pistol is harder to conciel and drive with, let alone present in a conflict if needed. Apendex carry feels more comfortable for me. Thanks OG for all the valuable information and for your service
How do you prevent the muzzle or tang from "pinching"the belly or groin area? I carry some tactical girth as part of my edc. It's essential for "warmth" (thats what we'll call it).
@@Harlem55 more to the point, nobody can be 100% perfect, no matter how hard they try. We're all human, and humans make mistakes. Better to admit being imperfect than tempt fate for the sake of hubris.
@@StringerNews1 That is true- BUT when it comes to a loaded gun one should NOT be in the business of making "mistakes". One man's "mistake" is the Grand Jury's negligent homicide.
@@Harlem55 exactly. So don't make the mistake of shoving a gun in your pants because you think it's kewl-looking. Guns aren't for sexual kink, so keep 'em away from your junk. Safety first.
I carry The Hellcat and can unholster the gun, disengage the thumb safety, point, aim, and get the first round on target in a little over a second. Whenever I drill dry fire, I always re-engage the safety before holstering the gun. When on range, I never have to worry about negligent discharge because I've drilled this motion about 3,000 times and it has become automatic at this point. Anyone who decides to conceal should drill these motions to prevent any mistakes you might make when having to think about it. When it becomes a robotic response, it becomes one less thing to think about.
I'm not OG by any stretch of the imagination, but I happen to own a hidden hybrid. It is quite comfortable, and in my opinion the leather is thick and stiff enough to avoid the sort of deformation that could catch on the trigger. Plus, they support many different lights and lasers on just as many guns.
I have a Crossbreed and it's the most comfortable holster I have used. Even comfortable sitting in cramped movie theatre seats with a Kimber Ultra Carry II in .45.
Nice job! The most useful info crammed into a short video that I've seen so far. Really nice. I've looked for many years for the "ultimate" holster and you've broken it down nicely. And I agree with you about AIWB carry. I've narrowed my collection of guns down to 5, and none of them have ever gone off by themselves. You talk like I teach my students: "in theory there is no difference between theory and practice...in practice there is. Keep up the good work!
I'm so grateful for these videos. Utah just passed what I call back to the Constitution and Bill of Rights carry. Basically you can cc with no permit so now I'm carrying concealed and I never did before.

Langdon Tactical makes a striker plate control device for Glocks that you can index while holstering preventing the trigger from moving. Indexing the striker plate along with everything you said while holstering has lowered my anxiety 99%
I run half marathons carrying AIWB. I don't print very much. And thanks to Sticky Holsters it is comfortable. Even with my tactical girth. I train on some of the most dangerous streets of America. And I love the comfort of my CCW. STICKY recommends removing the holster to replace pistol. And because it isn't locked to my belt or clothing it is very easy. Plus my Walther has a rear protruding striker indicator. Makes ultra light holster carry much safer.

I’ve always considered appendix carry for slim dudes that don’t have any gut but this was enlightening. I have a little of that “tactical girth” haha. Definitely can relate to the difficulty of driving and considering how difficult it would be to access at 4’o’clock carry.
Many years ago an acquaintance of mine, a Highway Patrol Trooper, an extremely competent (normally) shooter was at the range for some practice. He had a brain fart and stuck a 1911 on half cock in his belt in the front. After a couple of moments the pistol discharged, he got a 45acp fireball along with a 230 gr FMJ bullet, all this right into the family jewels. He called his dispatch then drove himself to the ER, walked in and laid down on a gurney, he spent the next two weeks in intensive care, he came close to dying. He finally recovered and was able to return to duty. He knew full well that the half cock position on a 1911 wasn't safe and really has no idea why he did that, it was a really negligent thing to stick an UNSAFE pistol in his belt. A moments negligence almost cost him his life. Just something to keep in mind when using that position.
Best video I've seen so far on appendices carry. The re-holstering technique is really good. I will be new to appendices carry when I get my new Tier 1 holster. The main reason for this is because I have been getting more and more uncomfortable with having just a compact pistol. With all the BS going on these days I want to carry my full sized 1911 for the accuracy at distance. Gregg, your comments about carrying a full size and how to carry it were very reassuring. Thank you

I appreciate your awesome review of my review, Richard. Glad you liked it. Thanks for writing in and especially for subbing. I have other mediocre videos on the channel you might like as well. Stay safe out there.
I use a pistol only kydex hostler that sits pretty high. Its the most comfortable and concealed for my body type. That wiggle and rock helps with comfort, sit vs standing the hostler rotates to the best piston and riding high means a master grip is a lot easier to get. When reholstering I grab the holster throw my pants with my none gun hand and pull it out and angle way from my body, I also have a habit of flicking the safety on before reholstering, lining up the gun inserting it most the way, making sure the trigger is clear befor flicking the safety back off and fully clicking the gun in the holster. I never practice holstering the gun quickly and actively try to make sure i do it slowly and consistently every time, from my under standing people that shoot them selves on accident its often from reholstering a pistol.
This is why they make revolvers with 12-inch barrels. Around these here parts, we call them "bypass barrels". Personally, I'd really need a 14-incher to be completely safe... unless it's REALLY COLD. Then a snub-nose would probably do : )
As a young cop (decades ago), I carried a model 49 aiwb. Never a problem. Today, I'm not fat but not lean. Will still carry aiwb but only with smaller firearms (J frames, Bodyguard 380, XDS etc...). All three of these provide an additional level of safety I would not enjoy with my FN, Glock...
I have that "Tactical Girth" at 64 years old, and I love my T1C holsters to carry in! I have three! I'm also a fan of Nexbelt (6), on which I use my T1C holsters. Thanks for your video giving the pros and cons of AIWB carry. I can now send links to friends that ask about it and have their questions answered.
I can not use a inside the pants holster. Due to a severe back injury I “live” in a semi hard (non elastic) back brace. For carry I use outside the belt hard holster, with a trigger guard gun retention lock, for all of my carry handguns clipped across my back brace and pants. My cover garment is a denim or leather vest.
Another great video. OG continues to prove that it is the shooter and not the firearm. For those that are going to try this drill, you should sprint 50 yards to the start line to get that heart rate up. Just a thought. When I was working we routinely inserted some type of movement to get the blood pumping.
Awesomeness! I think its a good point to be made that regardless is you are are AIWB or IWB on the hip or even open carry there is always room for human error. So many officers have ND's especially with Glocks or other no manual safety SF pistols simply because of snags. And usually while holstering. Those pull toggles on windbreakers or other gear get in the trigger-guard and boom. So if you are not on it, doesn't matter where you carry. If you practice good handling and carry AIWB is as safe as any method.
Hands down the best appendix carry video I've seen here. Considering the source, not surprised. Tactical Girth...... Awesome!

I've only had one accidental discharge but that was during a prostate exam

Backfire!
Bro. 🥴🥴🥴

This guy deserves a show on prime time television. Informational, and funny as hell 🤣
"Tactical Girth"...freakin' classic, OG! That's why we love you, you bacon scented beautiful son of a gun
😂. Thanks Andrew. I DID shower this morning however. 🤷♂️ 🐖
I haven't been inside a Wal-Mart for years. Wal-Mart is like The Florida Man's territory.
LOL Nothing like a Wal-Mart in south Kissimmee on a Easter weekend when its the only store open.!! That will answer where all the Walmartian photos and video come from.....they are real..!!!!!
Thank you for the free lesson officer Greg.
I own 7 T1C holsters and love them! It AMAZES me how much they’ve improved their design over the years. This Axis Elite is almost unrecognizable compared to the ones now, just three years later.
Aegis, not axis
When you said “always carry when your in a Walmart, Covid is the least dangerous thing in there.” I immediately subscribed and hit the bell! Truth is I watched that part 4 times then I subscribed. I hope you read this. 😂😂
I’m reading it. Thanks for watching and subbing! Good to have you aboard OGDS.
Perhaps we should rename it “Karen Carry”
because everyone wants to tell you what not to do!
“Apendix Karen?”

I actually really appreciate this breakdown - considering multiple options for carry at the moment.
Are you appendix carrying? Or you just happy to see me😁
Awesome as always OG, my instructors always say " watch it all the way into your holster, we're not giving awards for SPEED re-holstering"
Stay safe OG✌
I very much agree with your instructors. Thanks for watching and stay safe out there.
Ok you might have convinced me too try OG. Being a full figured fellow myself, this has been the best video I’ve seen.
Lol. I don’t really care. Spoken like a true brother.
If you fall, you’re paralyzed
@@dogsduece
Unlikely.
Thanks. Maybe one day I’ll be as cool as the big guys. 🤷♂️😎👍
Regarding reholstering. Advice when I was a valet. Park them slow and walk fast. Therefore, draw fast and reholster slow.
7:11 HA! Love it. "Covid is the least dangerous thing inside of a walmart" TRUTH!
Well done OG! Good perspective on an often debated subject!
Cool information mate thanks, especially for showing reholtering technique. Stay safe we need your channel long live the thin blue line.
Are you guys allowed to carry in Australia?
“If it’s not for you, don’t do...put in a Taylor Swift CD”... 🤣👍
I've been carrying appendix carry for 34 years. I have better awareness and control over the firearm in this method. In my opinion, it is the best concealed carry position.
A great holster is the spyder concealment hybrid. It has FULL kydex with a thick leather backing (very comfortable)
But OG you produce so much heat from your junk are you not worried about cook offs?
This made me chuckle
@@michaelkartman3543 i had to come up with some reason why appendix carry is bad just to mess with OG, that's the only thing i could think of. lol
Cook off or cock offs???

Lol I got that question is that your gun haha
I turn my body so I don't contact the person with my firearm.
No BS. Practical.
Thanks for the feedback, Mike. I’m glad you like the show. Stay safe and armed out there.
Outstanding video! This retired LEO switched back to 3:30 or 4"00 clock position after carrying appendix. I found the appendix carrying was much more comfortable. I will now be going back to appendix carry because of your video. Stay safe and be prepared for what is coming to all of us.
Thanks for checking it out, James. It’s not the solution for everyone. Do what comfortable, concealable and fast to draw from.
Wow thats how I carry! And everyone blows me shit about it. I use a leather holster because its so comfy but my trigger is well covered.
"Tactical girth" lol the dad jokes in this is killing me.
I've carried AIWB for years and never shot anything off. And its a BIG target! Heh-heh! LOL!!
If it wasn't for the letter D, this would be OG's Anger Show.
And sometimes it is!
And if it wasn’t for er it would OG’s dang show😱
"...if done properly." There's always a gotcha. 😔
At my age I'd rather die at the hands of another than live to explain why I shot my junk off.
Yep, and in this day and age few people do anything properly.
@@StringerNews1 LMAO. I could so use a movie quote from Chuckie but I'll leave that alone because it's way overused by now.
Well done. Due to previous injuries, I use a different carry method. One must find what works best for them. Live long and shoot straight.
The Fifty Shades of Gregg was extra special. Heh heh ☺️
Yeah... Wasn't sure if I should flee in terror or buckle my seatbelt 🤯
OG whats your opinion on Hybrid holsters with a soft leather side and Kydex on the other like the Aliens??? LOVE THE CHANNEL DUDE, ROCK ON!!!
Love my alien gear & the capability to carry in different aspects.
I have a Crossbreed and it's the most comfortable holster I have used. Even comfortable sitting in cramped movie theatre seats with a Kimber Ultra Carry II in .45.
Another hybrid option is from Mr. Tommy Theis at theisholsters.com. I've been very happy with the holsters I got from him.
The leather actually keeps the kydex from rubbing the finish off
"Tactical girth"?! Holy hell, I'm so damn tactical!
Thanks for checking out the show, Rod. 😎🤟
I'm so grateful for these videos. Utah just passed what I call back to the Constitution and Bill of Rights carry. Basically you can cc with no permit so now I'm carrying concealed and I never did before.
Awesome! Congrats!
Shooting your own junk off while appendix carrying is just natural selection at it's finest.
🤣🤣🤣
Keep your booker hook off the bang switch and you’ll be fine.
I carry inside the waist, just behind the right shoulder. If there's an discharge, it's at the ass I don't have. 😂
Impossible for an accidental discharge if it’s in a good holster.
Have a Don Hume fitted leather.
Excellent holster with trigger covered.
Highly recommend.
Great video!! Keep fighting the good fight out in CA.
"Tactical girth" 😂😂
If y’all didn’t notice.. O.G. Holstered fully indexed AND with the web between the thumb and forefinger over the the back of the slide as to not press the grip safety for you grip safety peeps. I carry grip safety only… 2-4 o’clock. That’s how I handle mine even in the holster when there’s no reason to fire the weapon.
Langdon Tactical makes a striker plate control device for Glocks that you can index while holstering preventing the trigger from moving. Indexing the striker plate along with everything you said while holstering has lowered my anxiety 99%

You said “package” and “unit” in the same sentence. I’m still immature apparently
For those of us already packing still gonna hit something vital if it goes off. But that’s why I prefer a safety on the ol shield 45
You are the only creditable source who has "tactical body storage" who shows appendix carry is not just for 6 pack hipster/neckbeard/ tacticool guys.
Thanks Daniel. Gotta learn to carry with the body God gave me. It might be hard to believe but I won’t ever be a 6 pack hipster tacticool guy. 🤷♂️

Good tips here for us guys with a muffin top that want to carry Appendix.
Officer Gregg offers sound advice and demonstrates with sample holsters he likes best.
Gregg shows what issues interfere with comfort and what modest adjustments to make.
Thank you officer Gregg, that was a great video and i love your humor and teaching style.
Thanks for checking it out, Nick. Glad you like the show. 😎👍
Thank you
Thanks for checking it out, Robert. 😎👍

Huge gun enthusiast new gun owner I really appreciate this video, this was THE most fluid breakdown of how to carry IWB THANKS OG!!!!!
Awesome. Thanks for your great review of my mediocre review, sir. Check out the other vids on this channel. A couple of them don’t suck. 🤷♂️
This is why they make revolvers with 12-inch barrels. Around these here parts, we call them "bypass barrels". Personally, I'd really need a 14-incher to be completely safe... unless it's REALLY COLD. Then a snub-nose would probably do : )
Most comprehensive presentation I have seen for us larger people!
Thank you
As a young cop (decades ago), I carried a model 49 aiwb. Never a problem. Today, I'm not fat but not lean. Will still carry aiwb but only with smaller firearms (J frames, Bodyguard 380, XDS etc...). All three of these provide an additional level of safety I would not enjoy with my FN, Glock...
I usually push out on my mag holster and lean back and inspect the holster while reinserting it
"Gooey bits," "tactical cushion" I already love this channel.

“I don’t really care.” Love it. I to enjoy telling it like it is. Thanks for the good info. Stay safe.
You be a funny dude, cover all the important 'bits' and make a logical argument at the same time. Thanks for the personal insights.
I love the subtle brag changing your pistols out for every camera shot! Nice guns!
