Actually, Liquid Snake is the one with the dominant genes and Solid Snake has the recessive genes. After the credits of MGS, you can hear Revolver Ocelot saying, "Yes. The inferior one was the winner after all.”
A bit late but, thats why Liquid Ocelot never complains about being the recessive one, he knew it.

Honestly, Ocelot should be #1. He gave up his own identity (essentially killing himself) in MGS4 to help Big Boss. No other character has willingly sacrificed so much.

Shane Bovell They both made sacrifices, but you could argue that Ocelot's fate is worse than death. And he has played a major role in every MGS game. The Boss was only in 1 (or 2, if you count her AI in Peacewalker). He's the superior character, overall.

Well...yeah, thing is, as a character, he doesn't do much. Other than an absolutely unforgettable....dare i call it "boss battle"? He is great, and his presence is ever felt, but maybe there's other, more memorable characters. (He is, however, easily the best Cobra)

People don't understand that Solid Snake was, in a way, a bad guy. He was developed,trained, and sent to kill Big Boss by the patriots.Where as Big Boss was fighting to end the Patriots control on society.

im on the youtube app so I cant copy/paste. but on a comment on mrhakubi reply in a comment that wonders why there are dislikes for this video, I addressed this. you can look for it, it's an earlier comment, but basically, Solid Snake never actually killed Big Boss ( he got it good but still Big Boss surviving makes him just more oh a badass ) and Big Boss is the central character to the series, ( he got more games where you play as him in the canon universe too if we want to talk simply in number of eoisodes ) but nothing in metal gear could have happend without Big Boss' actions.
Phantom pain retcons metal gear. Snake doesn't kill big boss. he kills the medic from ground zeroes. the medic is made to look like big boss and is the playable character throughout phantom pain. sorry for spoilers.

You should get to know mgs3 and peace walkers story before playing tpp, look up "eligible monsters" he has good recaps of the entire series
before you get the phantom pian. go buy the legacy collection (ps3 only) and play through those.

+Mr. Box Depending on what system you are playing on i'm sure you can get Ground Zeroes pretty cheap right now. It would be beneficial as it has back story from PeaceWalker and you will get to learn the game mechanics and controls of MGS V.
I played ground zero. Fell in love with it. Must have put 20 hours into it. I would have love to play the past ones. But this games comes out in a couple days.
I understand the story is complex and insanely detailed. I will prob be lost. But I can't wait for this game.

this is the first time I agree 100% with a top 10 list
Raiden should be higher the guy is a beast in mgs4 and especially in metal gear rising the back story of him being the most dangerous child soldier ever is amazing as well and the way he draws on this later on really gives a depth to a character who at first glance may seem cold and boring but he's anything but in reality, definitely the most powerful character in the metal gear universe

why, during clips of mgs, was the game cleaned up compared to actual footage from the game? The face wasn't pixelated, the body was smoother.

i personally would like to play a metal gear game where the protagonist is a person with nanomachines because we had solid snake and big boss as protagonists as normal human protagonists, we have had raiden as a cyborg protagonist but nanomachines seem to be a very versatile superpower that can give way more superpower options than even a cyborg body

Personally i consider Solid Snake like one of the best fictional characters

Honestly, Zero should at least have some kind of special mention.
While his actual character doesn't have nearly as much narrative as all the others on the list, his role in the entire plot of this story cant be ignored. He is the leader of Cipher, which later becomes The Patriots. The 2 main antagonistic entities in this entire game series.
Solid Snake deserves the first place.. Big Boss Was only playable on MSG 3, Peace Walker and GZ. And those games werent big deal comparing to the others. Solid Snake is the true Hero imao.
I agree with you. solid snake is the best character and always will be. big boss is good. but solid is the main character and the best.

+Adam Ward I love solid but boss is a more interesting character. solid was gruff and hard never really showed too much emotion. makes sense considering he was engineered. Big boss however is far more relatable. one of the first things we see him do is smile. his story is simply more interesting. he goes from hero, to betrayed, to a villain with a heart of gold, until he redeems himself through a final sacrifice. solid is more accomplished (at least in physical feats) but throughout story his goal remains pretty straight forward. kill metal gear and stop liquid. I'll always love snakes story and his sheer badassery but boss is, in my opinion a more interesting and better character.
DementedCow When you say "pp" you mean phantom pain? Because Big Boss is not playable on this game '-' ...
but at the throughout plot story it present to us like we ARE Big Boss whatever it reveals at the end that we were played as his doppelganger, so the game is still about Big Boss as the main protagonist, therefore phantom pain still count to Big Boss

WatchMojo, as far as I'm concerned, what you did here and putting the man who sold the world as number 1 is the best. Don't mind the others who doesn't even know Big Boss and his past without playing MGS 3, MGS Portable OPS, MGS Peace Walker and MGS 5. But seriously, Hideo-sama should've been in the list, like duh... The smartest guy in the R&D team? Just saying though, still, good job with the top 10 MGS Characters! ^_^
