Rick Stockhaus You can just tune it to D and leave it and not play it; much easier, especially if you also use the guitar for open D or Open E or standard tuning. Basically, a six string Banjo with a sixth string.
@@GaryBookMaybe if you're just playing in your bedroom. Not if you're playing loud rock live, not easy to mute the low E or skip past it when playing Street Fighting Man, Start Me Up, etc, and esp Tumbling Dice. I wrestled with it for months then finally decided to dedicate one guitar to 5-string open G and another for standard.
@@slimturnpike As a banjo and guitar player, I want to suggest that you seem ready to add Banjo into your life. They are tuned D G B D with the top string tuned to High G. 5 strings. There are two styles, bluegrass picking and claw hammer. I play bluegrass style and struggle with claw hammer, but you can get a groove with claw hammer that is great. Definitely check it out. If you are playing loud, five strings are better, but tuning the low E string to D, then you can get away with it on an acoustic. I believe, on Moonlight Mile, they tuned the low E string to G. I hope you do explore the banjo.
@@GaryBook Yes on Moonlight Mile, Mick Jagger played open G with both E and A strings tuned to G. I fooled around with clawhammer banjo in college, pretty fun.
Thanks for this lesson! And for the quip about the GF and the wife both being appreciative! :). I wanna be able to do a set of Stones numbers, all in Open G. This adds another one, cheers from Sydney, Australia!
Thanks, nice job with this lesson. I'll probably enjoy playing this one more on my acoustic than my Tele. I really do enjoy all of Keith's work. There is a kind of genius in its simplicity.
great lesson, I love how you explain things, I hate those guys that just play with a song with a closeup of their hands, and say nothing, then call it a lesson lol
When I removed the low E string there is a buzz at the tuner/machine head because it is loose without a string in it...any tips on how to get that buzz out
My Danelectro does that. I just put a rubber band on it. Wrapped around the post on top to the tuning peg button. This Tele doesn't buzz without the string on. Sometimes a guitar with 6 saddles will buzz too without a string on it. This Tele has the old 3 saddle style bridge and doesn't suffer from it.
I prefer the open d and e tuning stones era as well. Might have been Brian don’t know but street fighting man & jumping jack in open D you can hear it whatever keef says now. I think this one is Too
How is it that Keef is still alive, but everyone else is dying all around him? Sad. Not that I wanna see Keef leave us - not at all. I loved the Stones more than the Beatles actually.
Despite everything he has always stayed true to himself and rock and roll by not accepting awards like knighthoods etc from the British establishment not like you know who
LOL - Girlfriend or Wife! You really are amazing at these lessons, so great to have you in y corner.
For Open G Tuning I use an Open E Tuned Guitar & capo up on the 3rd Fret.
Keith Richards is the best..inspired me since I was young...listening to Stones all my life..!!!
5 strings. Just the way Keith likes it. Definitely a Rolling Stone fanatic
Keith is a genius. All those open G classic hits.
Dude you nailed that song! You’re the first person that actually removes the E string like Keith does. Great job!

Could you do a lesson on Jiving Sister Fanny? Love your stuff-
Brilliant!
Awesome lesson! Thank you so much!

Brian Pfeiffer Thanks! You wouldn't believe how many comments from people saying shut up and play. It's a lesson! People explain things in a lesson.
EXACTLY !!
@@iwannarockschool like it how you do it. it is excellent.
Is that a Perry Mason B Bender telecaster ?
great lesson!!
Fantastic. Thank you so much
Bridge?
great video thanks
Only way I can play is open G. Please keep em coming
Sounds sweet.

Thank you!! I appreciate the quick response...love what you are doing man. Keep it up! Always a pleasure to get a lesson in some keef magic!
Muy bueno!!!!
Nice. Why not tune the 6th string down to C ? Bigger sound
because C would be a 4th and be weird. Tuned down to D is the normal way.
Sleek Tele. WHy dont you call out the chords as well? C-F and then B-D
I can play this on gutair
what pickups do you have ? nice sound
It's changed a lot, but I've settled on Bill Lawrence L250 strat pickups in the neck and middle, and a Dimarzio Area Hot T in the Bridge.
@@iwannarockschool Do you play with David Gogo ?
I did for just about 16 years. 2001 to 2017
@@iwannarockschool ,I probably saw you at the rainbow in ottawa. You were on bass ?
Album track is open E capo 8 but he does play it live in Open G Capo V nice job
Tony Wilson can you show somewhere that it is documented as recorded in open E
No, because I was wrong@@chopslamar6092

No bridge?
Oh I am here for the filler stuff, but it didn`t happend. That would be the thrill.

some kind of Voodoo I bet. Zombie Keef!
preserved in heroin?
Despite everything he has always stayed true to himself and rock and roll by not accepting awards like knighthoods etc from the British establishment not like you know who
But if you take off the low E string, you can’t play the best open G song of all time - Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits.
It's missing that low D... put it back on! You're not Kieth.
please do jiving sister fanny !
Too much talk
Thank you
