@George Strait wait are you saying there's something misleading about the figure being touted by the cdc, and media "all deaths involving covid-19"?
Especially when the footnote clearly states suspected or confirmed cases.
Surely you don't think there's something dishonest about paying extra money to hospitals for covid-19 cases and treatments, while increasing the number of symptoms to include headache or diarrhea, while also having no obligation to actually prove that the patient had covid-19 when they died.
So you end up with the kind of situation an RN friend of mine told me about. A perfectly healthy 25 year old has covid-19 but it is totally asymptomatic because his body is fighting it off normally, but he gets shot in the head and dies. Then your hospital tells you that you have to write him up as a death related to covid-19.
Surely there's nothing nefarious going on here?

One of the most amazing things I ever did as a teen was in '95 or so walking into the Dodge dealer with a friend much bolder than myself, and actually getting a test drive in a Viper. We only went up and down the block, and the salesman was in the car for my turn and for his turn driving. Maybe five minutes behind the wheel, but what an amazing five minutes! The car was much more powerful than the Mustangs I was used to, and I thought that I could handle it until coming into the lot and seriously oversteering on a downshift. I've fishtailed a ton of Mustangs but the Viper with it's horrible visibility, neverending hood, and NOISE was just a different experience. Where am I going with this? The Viper wasn't a car. The Viper was an experience. It hasn't left me since, I still look at it and think there's either a part of me in there or a part of the Viper in me.
Rest in peace, Mark. Of all the crazy things you dragged me along for, the Viper ride is the one I probably think about the most.

I approached a red light where a Viper and an Acura NSX were in the front row, waiting for a green light, at a highway entrance. The NSX revved its engine, signaling intent to race the Viper. The NSX engine sounds beautiful. It's high revving, with lots of whir from meshing mechanical parts. In contrast, the Viper was simply idling and barely audible. I thought 'this is gonna' be good! But, the outcome was melodramatic. On green, the NSX launched, revving to max RPM. But the Viper immediately took the lead with just a low rumble. I think he may have even left the line in third gear, just for effect. While I love the sound of the NSX and was disappointed with the Viper's, the outcome of this race left no doubt that the NSX owner's ego was badly deflated.

When the first Viper came out we waited anxiously here in Canada for one to arrive locally. Seemed to take forever before the local Dodge dealer had one, and word spread across town FAST when the first VIPER arrived. It never made it to the showroom, and for most of us we figured some rich guy bought it and swooped it away before any of us could ever see it. True. Then one day, the rich owner brought the Viper in for service on the same day as I brought my car in for service. I dropped my car off and when I walked around to the side of the dealership to catch a ride to work from the dealership van ... THERE IT WAS!!!!! THE VIPER!!!!! I looked at it like I'd never seen a car before. I had driven Corvettes, Camaro's, and Mustangs ... BUT THIS THING WAS AN ORGASM. I still recall looking in the passenger compartment and seeing a rubber viper snake wrapped around the shifter base. Cool.

They handed out these cool information flyers (no free hot dogs) about the Viper. Most people don't know this but Bob Lutz was a former Marine jet pilot and he was quoted on the flyer as saying the "it felt like it could accelerate forever" Right after the Viper went into production Chevrolet bumped the horsepower on the Corvette ZR1 from 375 to 405.

How can anyone actually hate the looks of this car? It's just superb from every angle. That angle at 12:10 must surely rival any exotic Euro sports car you care to name, so simple and smooth yet brutish and tough looking. So who cares if it doesn't have door handles! Isn't that a good thing? I love how Jay Leno always shows off the trunk as well as goes through the controls and instruments and features of the interior of all the cars in these shows. A show for real car enthusiasts. He says, "You fix it first, and when you can't fix it, THEN go to the service manual" I know that well. Another American Classic Car idiom I love: "If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is"

That's today. It was a hell of a star in the magazine covers years ago, and people have so hyped for this that so many kids hang posters of the Viper on their bedroom walls. I would do the same if I have a poster of it. After all, there are times for the greatest to shine, but it's not just how long it's in the spotlight, it's how lit it performs on the stage. The Viper did just that.

I remember being at a car show many years ago, sneaking under the ropes and sitting behind the wheel of a R/T10 Viper, saying someday...someday...And it was about 6 years later when I bought my own R/T10 Viper in 2002 (used). It really was an amazing dream car in it's day, and it still turns heads today. Most people assume that it's quick, but many are surprised how well the Viper handles. I also swapped out my rear gears for 3.55s for the extra bite (stock is 3.07), and I added high flow cats which feel like they make the side sills half as hot as the stock units (so no burned legs) but they still gain power. In the 24 years of Viper production Dodge/SRT only sold around 31,850 Vipers in all, or an average of about 111 Vipers sold per month. So it is truly a rare car. Thanks again for the fun, personal, and informative video Jay!

Dean McManis - Yo Dean! Nice to see ya here and learn of your Viper. I have a work buddy with a few of them and then he wrote the Viper Buyers Guide (by Maurice Liang). Find it on Amazon, it’s a sweet ode to a great ride.
Quick story: Back in ‘93 he never let ANYONE drive his Viper. One day he came in and tossed me the keys. We hit the freeway and I yelled (over all the noise) “I can’t believe you are letting me drive your Viper!!”
“My Viper?” he replied. “No, mine is in the shop and this is a loaner!”
(They were both red of course.)

Dean McManis - Cool! As much as my channel keeps me mostly anonymous (it’s more about the cars), Maurice and I worked together for about 8 years in the 90s. Our first (only?) race together involved a couple of Mustangs. We get together whenever we are in the same town, which is a whole lot less since I moved from CA to FL.
It was always a thrill when Maurice would show up at work with another new Viper (and “Viper Truck”). Those cars were rare and exotic back then, as they remain today!
He set a car standard which I’m now trying to follow, except with Teslas-

I'll never forget being 6 years old and seeing a gloss black RT/10 Viper at a local car show. I remember the guy saying they were a dodge dealer.
The thing that still surprises me to this day is they let me sit in it. Ever since the 1st generation Viper has been one of my favorite cars and even if they are technically worse than the later generations if i was buying one tomorrow it absolutely would have to be a 1st gen RT/10.

As someone who’s frugal I see the lack of Airbags, ABS, Electric windows, lack of air conditioning, etc, to be a good thing. Just one less part you need to replace, and other than the airbags really nothing else felt necessary to keep for a car like this. Made the car cheaper, and allowed engineers to focus on what makes a sports car sporty!
