I’ll be a fan for life of Clayton after his performance and actions at the trials. Absolute class act and fantastic role model for any athlete. Cheering you on from Santa Cruz, CA. 🎉
Also a huge fan for a number of reasons. I'll be following this guy until retirement. However, his Trials performance disappointed me. Ryan Hall was one of the best in the world. In old thin shoes he ran faster than any currently active American. Like Young and Mantz so far in their careers, he didn't shy away from top competition, so he won only a single marathon. I really admire him and think he had a great run, but he was behind major marathon course record setters, the 2 fastest times ever run (Boston 2011), and other great performances. He was nearly always top American in his prime. But the only time he was first over the line was at the Trials. (He won various shorter races, of course.) Ryan didn't give up possibly his most noteworthy performance. If he had let Ritz or somebody win, he would have retired having never won a marathon. If Mantz and Young both enter only prestigious events loaded with superstars, it is possible that even though they are great runners, the Trials ends up Connor's only marathon win and Clayton never wins one. I hope not, but it is likely. Just look at Hall's great career if you assume they will both win a bunch of them.
Clayton’s patience is really commendable. To have a training partner who constantly out trains you in workout is tough mentally, but he knows that he will be with him on race day, and that all things will end out as intended.
Every episode Coach Eyestone: "Okay, let's reign it in on this one" as Conner is straining at the leash lol. Love it. Best of luck to you both at NY! Absolutely love every video and hoping to see a couple of podiums!
I love these videos. This is truly VIP access to a professional athlete's training. And Clayton is so natural with the camera. Well done in another top 10 finish in a major race, looking forward to seeing one of you break the American record and get a podium finish in a Major.
Saw them running down the road the other day and recognized them instantly. I also enjoy running and know who they are, so to most people they will just look like fast runners.
After having watched all of these, I get a good chuckle about how Ed's always like " let's try to reign it in" and you know there's no way it's going to happen. It's an endearing interaction. Ah, and good luck tomorrow, and again, thanks for these. I see them as a great symbiotic interaction with the running community.
Clayton, It would awesome if you could talk more about what you do for your achilles or other common injuries! Would love to hear a pros perspective on dealing with one of the most common reoccuring injuries in running. Love your videos, will be rooting for you tomorrow! Good luck
Hope you don't mind me jumping in! If it's anything or you haven't seen it yet, Tom from The 5K Guys documented his struggles with achilles a little in elite competition. (note: don't expect quality of video akin to this series)
2:09 is awesome when the winner is 2:07! I care so much more about you and Rory than the top 5 because of videos like these. Can't wait to see the recap
I'll be cheering from Macedonia, a country you probably never heard of. Enjoying the videos, the production is amazing. Please keep doing these! And thanks a lot for providing good quality subtitles!
YAAAAS way to lean into building tension with the soundtrack during the workouts! 🤗 I had to pause the video and flip it to the TV with the sub for that! The track workout had strong Inception soundtrack vibes. 😃
Cheering and taking pics with my team from 1st Ave & 103rd Street in mile 19. Hope to catch you guys on camera. Have a great race and be sure to save some energy for mile 24... trust me.
It's the morning of... have an outstanding race. Can't wait to see what you (both) do. 🤙🏻 (Former New Yorker of 25+ years, watching from Taipei, Taiwan)
I’ll be cheering as I share the streets of NYC with you, Conner, and tens of thousands of others as we all push to achieve our goals together! Good luck!
As a long time Stryd user, it's really interesting to see it be applied to an elite athlete. Will be very interesting to see race day execution of Clayton vs Conner on a hilly course again. And if Clayton just goes by feel, or actually executes based on prescribed power targets. Can't wait to see the PowerCenter results post NYC.
The only bad thing about running NYCM tomorrow is that I won't be able to see you win it live. Best of luck to you and everyone else running the best marathon in the world!
I can only fathom how fast they're going when they pass that other runner, who is definitely running faster than I run at my fastest. Amazing. Good luck ya'll.
I'll be cheering for you from back in Wave 1! I'm going to try to catch you, but you get a five minute head start! (Clearly that's what's preventing me from catching you...)

Right now Clayton Young is my favourite marathon man. Not since the days of Ryan Hall have I been so excited about an athlete.
These videos are too high quality to be free to watch! I'll be rooting for you and Mantz from Wisconsin tomorrow morning!

Somebody get these guys some BYU parking passes!
Yeah, they're allowed in the gym. Can't Big Eddy pull those strings?
These workouts are done at incredible paces but the both of you make it look easy out there!
I cannot tell you how wild it would be to see these two fly by at a 4:40 pace!
Do the civilians on the street know who these guys are when they come flying by? Or do they just think, "There's joggers in the street."?
Saw them running down the road the other day and recognized them instantly. I also enjoy running and know who they are, so to most people they will just look like fast runners.
